I think we have rolled in similar circles in the for you to know some of these people

One thing I do know about anambra people tho is that they often have that magnet that pulls them back to that zone

Even a childhood friend who never lived much in Anambra state before (he is from nnokwa, I have followed his family there once to attend a trad wedding) is planning to build a house there and I'm like cheesy cheesy

Unfortunately, it's not like that for me because my parents kept me away from all that (I'm from imo btw)
that's why it seems odd to me that despite being of Igbo origins, the craze for "going home" is virtually non existent for me.

you see so many of them planning to go back to village this December and all, (planned weddings and all) so that might be the case for chimamanda and indeed many others.

To and Fro movements
Naija sweet , forget this thread. I went clubbin in enugu at that time period of my cousins 50th birthday (Ivara's Sister) and was blown away. The flexing no be here oh. My uncle was even telling me how theres no point in leaving , he just finished an estate in awka.

Funny story that day the Governor of Anambra , Imo and Enugu plus their deputies and aides were all there. See big men dey drag politics about how they want Buhari to be president. I was in the midst of power quietly sipping on hennesy.

My point is those connections are seldom made here on some shit. They just finished mayoral politics in here in Vancouver. No single non white even won a mayoral seat for any of the cities.

i can also tell you that there are thousands you don't know who they are and dont console yourself they would end the same way because not all of them would. Infact they would use their father's money to oppress your children, bukola saraki comes to mind and so many others. Are you telling me tinubu would not groom his son to become governor one day?
perhaps , i feel no oppression on my end. Cause in front of the real niggas those people popsi na rubbish. i was a conference once , the VP and politicians came with MOPOL and convoys.

Dangote came in an the ovation and respect they gave him was even more than the vice president Sambo. Apparently he came with a chopper that landed on the roof.

In the mist of the real niggas , fake wealth is rubbish so dont let that get you down just dey do ur thing. Sooner or later i find most wealth anywhere is just a front , scratch the surface just a bit and u will be surprised.

The difference between tinibu and his son is that i bet tinubu didnt grow up with wealth so he had to grind and suffer for it. There is nothing like wealth which u suffered for because suffering builds character and determination. his kids wont be half as determined , probably spoilt. I dont know oh but ive seen them alot of times as i said, they are my friends , some are stingy , most are very nice people actually.

Stolen or fraudulent wealth can never last , sooner or later the birds will come for the carcass. Provers 13:22

One thing I like about this man is that he exposes how terrible the system is and how foolish nigerians are. I would advise anybody here to do everything possible to secure your children's future because they would curse you if they see dino's kids doing better them.
Dont be fooled , im friends with lots of sons and daughters of big men with questionable money and they always end up the same way. They might have been sent abroad to goto school but their skills are begging.

They always end up back in naija with nothing to do , then u find out all the big homes u went to visit them when u were younger are all rented. Then you look back and thank your parents once again for sacrificing all the cars and vacations to yankee for a debt free education.

Now you can buy yourself and your parents anything they want.

yemiosinbajo:
See, I live in the US so I know what I'm saying; I don't have to argue with you. If it was the way you said it, the rich would choose to live abroad instead. If you have some time, get a copy of AMERICANAH by Chimamanda Adichie, and find out why Obinze chose to go back to Nigeria with his wealth, and why Ifemelu later went back after acquiring US citizenship. If you could afford to buy a range rover and pay for it in cash at once in Nigeria, isn't that wealth? How many Americans can afford that? Is that what you will call "normal" in America. How about the paying of taxes? Do you know how that affects the rich? Why are you intrigued by the visa-free opportunity? First, if you are rich, no one will deny you a visa, so you can still visit the same countries that the visa-free citizen visits, so what exactly is the advantage of the visa-free chance you get? How many countries do you necessarily have to visit if you are rich, is everyone interested in travelling like that? Most times, the rich is going to these countries for one conference or the other which is by invitation, so who will deny them a visa?

Look, I want us to be very objective in our conversation here. There are a lot of things I could say, but I'm at work now. If you have some time, this discussion was already on Quora, it has over 100 answers: Is getting an American citizenship the best thing? Take time and read through, and it will explain a lot of things I wanted to tell you: https://www.quora.com/Is-having-a-child-born-into-U-S-citizenship-the-best-thing-that-could-happen-to-a-prospective-parent-from-another-nation

Don't get me wrong, getting an American citizenship is great; but this is only for the poor and middle-class. If you are rich, you don't need it. If you are Nigerian and RICH, you will rather live in Nigeria than abroad. Have you ever wondered why people like Dora Akunyili renounced their green cards? Or why Wole Soyinka would not apply for a citizenship, and not live in the US? Or why Obasanjo still keeps living in his Ogun State farm even after leaving politics, though he could still be embezzling money for America if he wanted? Or why Davido or Tiwa Savage would rather live in Nigeria even with their US citizenships- do you even think these guys will break through in music if they remained in the US?
On my way to work as I read this. I have a car that I pay for but due to traffic and costs of fuel it's cheaper to bus. I have a good job but I find it difficult to stretch my paychecks because of the cost of living here in Vancouver, BC. Preach!

In Naija you can make abroad in your small compound and be living like a king for a fraction of the cost

I haven't had any bad dates in nigeria. But last time I went out with an old friend and her younger sister, the bill came to 30k.

I was surprised but 30k wasent bad cause the food was good. I left my food in the uber and got soo hungry that night. sad

Had another date before I left, she didn't even dress up. And was complaining about not wanting to walk under the sun.

She took me to black bell and to the imax. Ran out of money in the uber enroute to the imax but was able to re up using WorldRemit. I got to the imax and was one again surprised at the cost, but it was fun, she was even kool and smoked a blunt with me before the movie.

Dates with women are expensive anywhere in the world tongue

I've read most of your posts on this thread. Dude, sorry to say you got your heads in the cloud. Maybe because you've spent so long abroad and you are homesick.

Nigeria is not what you think. I repeat.. NIGERIA IS NOT WHAT YOU THINK! It is a land of hardship, anger and frustration. Don't be decieved by the suffer and smile lifestyle.

Yes there is a better sense of community here but trust me, it's because there's no other option. When there's no light, wont you go out and gist with neighbours? who will sit inside in darkness? We need each other to survive in this decrepit land.. but believe me, the minute Nigeria develops like the western world, all these social whatever will stop.

Regarding opportunities, they are only there for the rich and connected. Someone like you may struggle since you've been abroad for so long. There are many returnees like you regretting their decision to return.

The best option is to live abroad and come home regularly for holidays. A word is enough!
Lol thanks for the advice , i come to nigeria regularly so i know what to expect. I know it wont be easy but in the long term i stand to benefit wayy more than living here.

My parents didnt steal 1 kobo so i cant just abandon everything they have worked so hard for. Im speaking well beyond material things. All the connections that have been built over the years are invaluable.

For example i was able to exchange numbers with Innosun last time i was there and this is just oh mumsi said i should escort her for Nnewi. Can you imagine opportunities ive missed just by being here? I was supposed to get the contract to rebuild the innosun website huh

I wont even know where to begin to start making those type of connections here. As a black man i have to prove myself everywhere i go. Im technically a nobody here at best just a high wage earner , which is nice but i want more. For all my work there has to be more

My Canadian passport and my career will always be my fall backs just in case. But to be frank there are opportunities there , if everyone leaves who will change the country?

600k is not bad at all. Going abroad only works if you have a plan.

It works even better for those that are bi coastal.

Personally long term Naija is the goal cause of connections. Once I become a Canadian I can always fall back is needed.

I'm fortune as I'm single with no kids. My siblings can no longer just pack up as their kids are settled here

Lol, then why get a mortage then? You have expressed that you not able to afford a house or are planing on renting it out? If so I would not recommend renting it out because it’s going to be tough for you to manage the rental property if you are in Nigeria . If the tenants don’t pay be that you will be on the hook.
Oh no, I want to move from this city. Housing is more affordable in Alberta.

I'm looking in the 300 - 400k range for a house. It's not so bad. Mortgage should be just under $2000 per month.

As I said if I get crib for Naija first, this one is just jara

Okay good thing you are waiting till after you get citizenship plus you don’t own an home so you won’t be tied down with a mortgage.
I may still get a mortgage but it depends on if i marry my girl here.

Ideally I want to build/buy a crib in nigeria first.

How did you arrive Canada at age of 16?

And why are you in so much haste to return to Nigeria?isn't life there better?

And why is it difficult to buy a house in Canada.
Finished ss3 when I was 14, came here for school.

There are alot of opportunities/connections for me in nigeria, cost of living is cheaper but I'll always probably come back here.

The average home price in this city is $1.5 million
TravelRe: Share Your Experience Of Life Outside Nigeria. by AnthonyAk(m):
Living in Vancouver, BC, on my toilet as I type this. Life expensive, u work for everything u have.

Ur levels depends on how hard u work and if ur educated.

I work as a software engineer, lost my job in may but by God's grace found a job and starting tomorrow. I make good money but it's not enough to ever buy a home here.

I live alone in a pretty nice apartment in a decent part of town, I can afford anything that I want beyond real estate.

I contribute to my girls school fees so she can graduate and get a decent paying job. Maybe then I'll get married.

I also help some friends and siblings back in nigeria when ever I can.

I really should goto church more because God has always been faithful through out my time here.

There are no handouts here, alot of Africans come here and lose their way to cheap jobs and hustles.

Some work hard, stay in school, graduate, apply themselves in their careers stay and flourish.

Some come and flex and have a good time but they never last long. Sooner or later they are forced out because of immigration.

Others fall into unfortunate circumstances and are forced to leave.

There are others that get their papers but given they never graduated, they can never get good paying jobs

Moving bk to Nigeria as soon I become a citizen next year.

The idea is to land a position at Microsoft, IBM, Google or any of the big boys and transfer to Nigeria.

Hopefully somebody reads this and learns. My only regret is not graduating from school sooner. I was fortunate to finish secobdary school and come here at 16
