NOUN will kill somebody O
NOUN will kill somebody O

Hi all
I just heard this news from a friend and the person is in a state of confusion.

Ok this friend was a student of NOUN - Port Harcourt center and according to her as at last year April 2016, she has finished all the courses required for graduation.

Now, up till now April 2017 the center is yet to release the graduating list. A full year gone, now her problem is she just got a job offer in PH for 100K and they want to see her certificate or statement of result which she doesn't have yet.

Is it that she could just lose this job offer if she doesn't provide a her certificate for a job she is very much qualified for ?
Why has NOUN become so incompitent, they used to be better than this.
Please, who can provide a recommendation or solution to this girls situation.
SHE SHOULD CONTACT HER STUDY CENTRE DIRECTOR OR BETTER STILL GO TO THE HEAD OFFICE

MEANING OF SEMESTER COUNT

Semester Count is the number of semesters you have spent in NOUN including your current semester. For example, if you are in 100Level second semester, it means you have spent two semesters in NOUN. Therefore, your semester count is two.

You will be asked your semester count when registering on the portal.

If you are in 300L first semester, your semester count is 5.

Below is the meticulous breakdown.

100L first semester, semester count = 1
100L second semester =2
200L first semester =3
200L second semester = 4
300L first semester = 5
300L second semester = 6
400L first semester = 7
400L second semester = 8

HOW TO REGISTER YOUR COURSES AND EXAMS*

1. Visit www.nouonline.net

2. Log in with your matric number and password as required

3. Click on the Menu button (if you are using mobile phone) and click on "Registration" and then click on "semester registration" to register your semester.

4. Fill the form that appears.

*NOTE*:
(i) Under "Semester", select "1st Semester 2017" (meaning the first semester that u are experiencing in 2017... _remember that the school has two semesters in a year_).

(ii) Under "Semester Count", you are meant to fill in the total number of _*Active*_ semesters that you have spent in NOUN till date. Hence, if you are currently in 2nd semester of 300 level, it means that your semester count is *6*. The semester count is what determines the courses that will load into your portal after you complete this registration.

(iii) You will not be able to do any course registration until there is enough money in your e-wallet to cover such registrations. You will also not be able to do any exam registration for any course if such a course had not been previously registered under course registration.

5. When you are done with all these, you can click on "Print" to print out the form (advisable) and/or click on "Submit" in order to submit your entry.

6. When this is done, you can then proceed to click on "Register Courses" and then "Register Exams" to fill the required information and complete your course and exam registrations respectively.

Today, I am going to share with you a short way to know your GPA and CGPA at National Open University of Nigeria.. Many people get confused about the fact that they have perform poorly in the tenure at the school. so if you are the new comers. here is little things you need to know before you start gambling in the school campus.. Just sit Down and read it..
what is GPA AND CGPA ?
GPA denotes Grade Point Average while CGPA denotes Cumulative Grade Point Average
The difference between the two lies in the fact that GPA is the standard of your academic performance in a particular semester while CGPA is the standard of your academic performance from the commencement of your programme till date.
CALCULATION OF GPA AND CGPA
I will use three courses to illustrate the technique in order to make it easier for you to understand.
After your TMAs and exams, your academic performance in all the courses you took in a particular semester is called GPA calculated thus:
Course 1:
Code. PHY 102
Grade. 60/100
Points. 4 points
Units. 3 units
GP=3*4=12
Course 2:
Code. LAW 111
Grade. 70/100
Points. 5 points
Units. 2 units
GP=5*2=10
Course 3:
Code. CIT 101
Grade. 50/100
Points. 3 points
Units. 3 units
GP=3*3=9
GPA:
GP for PHY 102=12, GP for LAW 111=10 , GP for CIT 101=9
GPA=total GP/total credit units=12+10+9/3+2+3=31/8=3.88
If in the next semester, you obtain a GPA of 30/7, for instance, your CGPA at that time will be 31+30/8+7=61/15=4.07
CLASSES OF DEGREE
First Class (70-100) CGPA (4.5-5)
Second Class Upper (60-69) CGPA(3.5-4.49)
Second Class Lower (50-59) CGPA (2.4-3.49)
Third Class (45-49) CGPA(1.5-2.39)

HOW TO CHECK YOUR RESULT ON THE NEW NATIONAL OPEN UNIVERSITY OF NIGERIA PORTAL – Nouonline.Net

The result was finally released about two weeks ago and many students are complaining that they don’t know how to check their result. So today we are going to learn how to check our results on the new NOUN Portal, am also going to explain the result page so that you will know what all the features that are provided in the result page mean.

Let’s get started.

Step 1

You have to visit the NOUN website i.e. nouonline.net. You can do this using your smart phone or laptop. I would recommend you us Google chrome internet browser and a very fast internet connection.

After the website opens up you should click on “Student Login” button.

Step 2

After the student login page opens, you have to enter your Matric Number and Password so that you will be logged in to you personal portal. If you don’t have the password yet please visit the ICT Department of your Study Centre so that they can create one for you.

Step3

After a successful login click on the “Courses” button at the top of the page and a drop down menu list will come up.

Select “Result” from the menu list so that you will be taken to your personal result page

UNDERSTANDING THE RESULT PAGE

*At the left hand corner you will see your CGPA, it has been calculated for you so you don’t need to do the calculation yourself.
*Moving down a little bit you will see your Grade Statistics, it shows you how many A’s, B’s, C’s, D’s, E’s and F’s you have gotten throughout your studies in the school.
*At the right hand corner you will see your “Academic Performance Report” which is divided into two.

1. STATEMENT OF RESULT – it shows you the entire course you have ever taken in NOUN and your grades on them, the courses are arranged alphabetically.

2.PERFORMANCE TIMELINE – here you will find all the courses you have ever taken in NOUN but this time they are divided into semesters, which means it shows you academic performance from your first semester exam till the last semester exam you took.

8 KIND OF STUDENTS YOU WILL SEE AT NOUN EXAMINATION CENTERS

At examination centers of National Open University of Nigeria, you will see students doing all kind of things just to do well in their exams, I have compiled a list of the kind of people I have meet at my own study center, you can share your own experience using the comment box.

Disclaimer – This list is not for the purpose of making fun of anyone, it’s just for fun.

Let’s get started.

1.THE LATE COMERS

I don’t even know what to write about these guys, they will come for a 12:00pm exam by 2:00pm. They have Master Degree in coming up with excuses for their late coming. They are always funny and can talk their way out of any situation.

2.THE STRAIGHT INTO EXAM HALL PEOPLE

These guys don’t take leave from work during examinations; most times they are business men/women. They are always in an hurry to leave the exam hall so that they can get back to what they were doing before the time for exam meet them.

One thing I like about them is that as long as they don’t Carry Over the courses they are happy with whatever they get after the exam.

3.THE PREGNANT WOMEN AND NURSING MOTHER

These guys are like the bosses of exams in National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), they are allowed to go into exam halls with a helper (mostly one of their friends, a maid or their Mother-In-Law) to help with their baby or to help them carry their bags.

Don’t ever pray to site next to one of them because you might end up doing their exam for them lol!

4.THE COMPUTER ILLITERATES.

These guys don’t know jack about computers, not even how to move their mouse – and they are university student.

They can call the ICT officer like 50 times in just one exam and they will be asking for help on the same issue, sometimes I wonder if they ever get to finally finish their exam.

5.THE SERIOUS STUDENTS.

I admire this guys a lot, I always want to be like them. They can come to exam center by 7:00am for a 2:00pm exam and they will read nonstop till their exam start. sometimes I wonder if that is how they read at home.

You will always see them in the library or lonely conners, they can cram the whole study material on the exam day.

6.THE TMA READERS

These guys believe that if they can cram the whole TMA 1 to 4 Questions and Answers for a course they will surely pass the exam, sometimes they will score 3/10 in their TMA and they will still be cramming the same TMA answers – well, may God be with them course anything can happen.

7.THE RICH KIDS.

These guys will have all the books and study materials but they will never study for exam, you will know them by their expensive cares and well-tailored cloths.

Their joints are at the cafeteria or the cool food joint close to the exam center, they are always eating something and the fine girls are always around them. they will never give you face but be expecting you to help them in the examination hall.

8.THOSE THAT WAIT FOR OTHERS TO GO AND WRITE FIRST.

They are mostly 100 and 200 level students, we all know that computers that will be used to write the exams are never enough so everyone cant write exams the same time, so they will wait for you to go in first and finish write your own exams then they will be asking you which questions came out.

*IF YOU PAID INTO YOUR PORTAL AND IT IS NOT REFLECTING*

IF YOU HAVE ALREADY PAID YOUR SCHOOL FEE (EITHER VIA INTERNET BANKING OR THROUGH BANK PAYMENTS), HERE ARE STEPS TO TAKE TO MAKE YOUR MONEY REFLECT IMMEDIATELY (IN CASE YOUR MONEY DIDN'T REFLECT ON TIME AFTER PAYMENT).

1. ONCE THE TRANSACTION IS SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED AND YOU HAVE THE PAYMENT RECEIPT, LOG ON TO THE SCHOOL PORTAL www.nouonline.net AND THEN CLICK ON RRR CHECK (AT THE HOME PAGE... MEANING YOU DON'T HAVE TO LOGIN YET).

2. ENTER THE RRR CODE INTO THE SPACE PROVIDED (BUT WITHOUT INCLUDING THE HYPHEN/DASHES)

3. SELECT THE PURPOSE OF PAYMENT (IF YOU ARE PAYING INTO YOUR PORTAL, THEN THE PURPOSE OF PAYMENT WILL BE "WALLET FUNDING"wink

4. SUBMIT THE FORM AND YOU WILL SEE A NOTIFICATION WHICH SAYS "TRANSACTION SUCCESSFUL" AND IT ALSO SHOWS YOU THE TRANSACTION DETAILS. (IF IT WRITES OTHERWISE, PLEASE RETRY THE PROCESS IMMEDIATELY OR MUCH LATER. JUST MAKE SURE IT SHOWS A SUCCESSFUL TRANSACTION NOTIFICATION BEFORE YOU PROCEED TO THE NEXT STEP)

5. GO BACK TO THE HOME PAGE OF THE SITE AND THEN LOGIN TO YOUR PORTAL. THE MOMENT YOU LOGIN, CLICK ON "MANAGE WALLET" AND THEN IN THE DROP DOWN, CLICK ON "CHECK WALLET PAYMENT". FILL IN THE RRR CODE AS YOU DID EARLIER.

6. AFTER SUBMITTING THE FORM AS INSTRUCTED IN THE ABOVE STEP, YOU WILL SEE A NOTIFICATION AGAIN TELLING YOU THE TRANSACTION IS SUCCESSFUL.

7. LOG OUT AND LOGIN AGAIN, YOU WILL SEE THE MONEY LOADED IN YOUR WALLET LIVE!

SO GUYS YOU DON'T HAVE TO WAIT FOR AGES AGAIN FOR FUNDS TO REFLECT AUTOMATICALLY IN YOUR WALLET.. YOU CAN DO IT YOURSELF.

I ALSO WANT TO INFORM YOU THAT THE ISSUE WITH ZENITH BANK HAS BEEN RESOLVED AND YOU CAN NOW MAKE PAYMENTS WITH ZENITH BANK.

FINALLY, I STRONGLY ADVISE YOU NOT TO USE YOUR PHONE TO REGISTER COURSES AND EXAMS BECAUSE YOU WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO PRINT THEM OUT LARGER. ONCE YOU SUBMIT AND LOGOUT, YOU WILL NO LONGER HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO PRINT IT LATER.

THOSE THAT MUST HAVE COMPLETED THEIR REGISTRATION WITH THEIR PHONES MAY HAVE TO VISIT THE STUDY CENTRE FOR ASSISTANCE IN PRINTING THEIR SLIPS.

PRISON INMATE TO ENROLL FOR PhD IN OPEN UNIVERSITY — VC

A prison inmate will soon enroll for a doctorate programme in the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), the institution’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abdalla Adamu, has said. Adamu disclosed this on Monday in Abuja at the opening of the 53rd Meeting and 30th Anniversary of the Committee of Deans of Post-Graduate Schools (CDPGS) in Nigerian Universities.

According to Adamu, prison inmates and juvenile who are willing and qualified are given free education as part of NOUN’s corporate social responsibility.

“We have 84 study centres including the prisons; NOUN is the only university that allows prison inmates totally free education because that is the opportunity they have to learn. “Right now, we have somebody who has finished his master’s degree and he is about to embark on PhD and he is still behind bars. “We have juveniles who, for one reason or the other, are caught up and locked up. “NOUN is the largest university in the West African sub-region and one of the biggest in the world with over 200, 000 students,’’ said the NOUN vice chancellor. He urged the committee to fashion out a mechanism for improving the global ranking of Nigerian universities. The vice-chancellor expressed regret that Nigerian academics hardly uploaded their research content on the Internet, hence the poor online visibility of Nigerian universities. Adamu said that unless a university established a strong online presence, it would not be ranked. He said that NOUN complied with the National Universities Commission (NUC)’s guidelines and had all its programmes duly accredited and wondered why the institution’s products were denied postgraduate admission. “Part of the major steps taken by the university management when I assumed office as vice-chancellor was to bring all our programmes in tandem with the regulatory ambiance of NUC. “With that, therefore, it would be unfair for any institution under the supervision of the same commission to deny recognition of NOUN certificates and deny our products opportunities for postgraduate studies. “I therefore urge you to draw attention to all the deans in your respective faculties to this challenge faced by our products in their pursuit of postgraduate studies,’’ he said. In his address, Dr Samiala Mande, Dean, School of Postgraduate Studies, NOUN, said there was need for Nigerian universities to catch up with modern methods of teaching and research. He listed some of the challenges confronting postgraduate studies as dearth of research grants, quality of graduates, quality of instructional content, limited availability of PhD holders to recruit, among others. Mande said that NOUN encountered difficulties in sending transcripts of postgraduate applicants to other universities. “Even when the transcripts are sent, some postgraduate schools are said not to have a proper documentation process to account for transcripts received. “The implication of this is that NOUN incurs more cost in the process of having to resend such transcripts. “Furthermore, there are times when as a result of a deadline, there is the urgent need to send a transcript by email.

“Unfortunately, many schools of postgraduate studies do not have functional, institutional email addresses,’’ he said.

Newsmen report that no fewer than 28 deans of schools of postgraduate studies in Nigerian universities attended the meeting.

FG PROPOSES TO EXPEL UNDERGRADUATES WITH LESS THAN 0.5 CGPA FROM NEXT ACADEMIC SESSION

Minister of State for Education, Professor Anthony
Onwuka, yesterday disclosed that the Federal government is proposing a new policy that will enable Vice Chancellors of various institutions to expel students with as low as 0.5 CGPA.

Onwuka who disclosed this at the 31st convocation of the University of Port Harcourt, said students with as low as 0.5 CGPA have no business in the University and should no longer be accommodated.

“We must stop to continue housing adventurers, who have no business remaining in the universities beyond the time specified for their studies in the universities. In that wise, it is being proposed that at the end of this academic year, any student with less than 0.5 CGPA should cease to be a student of the university and should be shown the way out. The universities must continue to have people who are serious in what they have come to do. If you have less than 0.5 in your CGPA, you are out. You are out for good so that the space will be left for those who have come to do serious business"he said
