TRUEPATRIOTLOVE:
Because of leaked answers
*STUDENTS SHOULD KEEP QUIET ABOUT EXAM LEAKAGE AS A REASON FOR THE CANCELLATION... THAT WAS JUST A MERE RUMOR. THERE WERE TECHNICAL ISSUES ACROSS SEVERAL STUDY CENTRES TODAY AND THE BEST THEY COULD DO TO ENABLE EVENNESS IS TO POSTPONE ALL PAPERS SLATED FOR TODAY.*

It is high time that some people will just try to open their minds before concluding over some things or accepting some rumors. The rumors might have more effects on you guys than even those mongers that develop them. The school did not officially state the reasons for the postponement but judging from observations and confirmations from several students across study centres, many centres had issues and the best was to generally cancel all the papers in order to avoid openness of the questions by those who have attempted the exams to those who have not.

*HOW TO CALCULATE NOUN EXAMINATION SCORE AND TMA*

Exam is around the corner and majority of candidates wants to know how NOUN grading system is when it comes to calculating Exam Score and TMA.

Follow me as I teach you….

NOUN Exam is over 70

NOUN TMA is over 30
TOTAL: 100

TMA means Tutor Marked Assignment. For your registered, you are entitled to 4TMA, of which you must submit before end of the semester exam. After submitting, it will be graded over 10, but the best three TMA will be considered and be chosen, which makes it 30.

Take for instance: Let’s taake GST102 as a course case study. Let’s say, TMA 1 – 9.50
TMA 2 – 10.0
TMA 3 – 9.00
TMA 4 – 10.0

The best 3 are 9.50, 10.0 and 10,0 – which is equal to 29.50 over 30

Now the question is, how do i calculate my exam score plus my TMA score?

I must tell you, it’s very simple!

You should note that, all NOUN questions doesn’t Have the same number of questions, some have 100, 120, 150 and 35. The courses with 35 are most of the time MTH courses. 100 and 120 questions are 2unit courses
150 questions are 3 unit courses

Anyway, let’s get into business…

For Example: (GST102)
After GST102 exam, you checked your score and you scored 95 out of 120 questions. And in your TMA for GST102, like I said earlier, you scored 29.50/30.

To calculate your total score over 100, use this formula:

Formula:
x/y x 70/1
That is, let x = what you score in the exam, and y = total number of exam question, which simple means, EXAM SCORE divided by NUMBER OF EXAM QUESTION multiplied by 70.

Whatever your result is from the above calculation, you’ll now add it to your tma.

Follow me with this calculation:

Exam score (x) = 95

Total number of exam question (y) = 120

Therefore, it will be 95/120 x 70

The result is 55.41 (NB: your TMA score is 29.50).

Now, add 55.41 and 29.50 – Result is 84.91

Which means, GST102 = A

also, note, you’ll follow th same way to calculate if your exam question is 100 ot 150.

But in the case of 35 questions, all you need to do is multiply whatever you score by 2.

That is, if you score 20/35, it will be 20 x 2, which is equal to 40, meaning that you score 40/70. But sometimes, it will have been programmed in such a way the calculation would have been done. You’ll know if it is.

You’ll see your score over 70.

NOUN adopts the general grading system, find it below:
0-39. — F
40-44 — E
45-49 — D
50-59 — C
60-69 — B
70-100 – A

Thank you for reading

So the other courses in the university are not accredited? Those which have "admission suspended"?
Update on suspended courses

WE just called to seek for clarifications from the Director, National Open University of Nigeria, Owerri Study Center, Dr Mrs Theresa Ettu.

Yes, the information about the suspension of some programmes are correct. But apparently, students are misinterpreting the release.

National University of Nigeria only suspended admissions on those programmes starting this semester. It affects those applying starting from this semester. Returning students are not affected as they will be allowed to complete their programmes.

But believe me, those suspended programmes will be restored in not long a time. You have to understand the management is working to clear grey areas with National Universities Commission.
It do happen; it is normal. Every University in this country do suffer the same fate from time to time.
So press no panic button yet..
Thank you!

EFFECTIVE WAYS NOUN STUDENTS CAN READ AND REMEMBER.

No student has low retentive memory.
While some forget everything they read, others can recall it easily. Have you ever wondered why this happens? A lot of students who fail examinations have reported they do read but forget everything they read, which is why I have decided to write this article. Trust me, if you can follow this write up to the end and put the tips into action, your ability to remember will surely increase.

1. *READ TO KNOW AND UNDERSTAND*
Many students who are yet to discover their hidden ability of remembrance have the mindset of reading in order to pass their examination which makes them to cram rather than understand the content of the book. As a result, they forget everything they read in the exam hall. Therefore, change your mindset while reading. Read to gain knowledge, make sure you understand the concept of what you are reading and don't just read to pass an examination"

2. *DO NOT SKIP A SENTENCE*
Students see some of the information in a book as "story" and decide to skip them. Before you can understand and remember what you read, you just have to read enough. The secret is, "The more you read, the more you understand and the more you remember" . You cannot read four sentences and expect to know five. there are hidden secrets in every sentence!

3. *MAKE NOTE*
I believe GST107 and GST101 has taught you that writing down what you are reading helps you to remember more. After reading for several minutes, try to write down main key points of everything you have read in short form without looking at it. This will help you to know the part you don't understand, so you can go over it again or ask your course mates in NOUN. This is a very effective method which I used during my days as a student. I am sure it will work for you!

4. *EXPLAIN IT TO YOURSELF*
If you have been forgetting what you read, it is because you either crammed it or you did not understand. After reading for a while, try to explain to yourself, it will help you to know if you really understand the concept of what you are reading.

5. *TAKE A BREAK*
Readings for 10hours without taking a break does not make you a bookworm but I will rather call it a waste of time. Yes, a waste of time!. Your brain is a biological organ and not a machine, it also gets tired. Effective reading habit should be cultivated as it is more yielding. When I say effective reading, after reading for 1-2hours, you tend to lose concentration when your brain gets stressed. Don't force yourself to continue reading. just take a 10-30minutes break depending on how you feel, until you feel relaxed and good to go again. After the break, try to recall everything you have read before the break, then you can proceed with your reading.

6. *USE SONGS AND MNEMONICS*
Mnemonic is a technique used to remember what you read very quickly and accurately. I believe you were taught the use of mnemonic device in GST107 (Good study guide) You can easily remember the exam hall by using mnemonic device. For instance, in BIOLOGY101, the mnemonic for remembering the features or characteristics of a living thing is MR NIGER D (movement, respiration, nutrition, irritability, Growth, Excretion, reproduction and Death).
It is very easy to remember the mnemonic which will help you remember all the features of a living thing than remembering all the features just like that.

Music is also efficient method. You'll agree with me that most of the rhymes you we're taught still sticks to your brain because of the use of music. If you were not taught like that, you'll have forgotten everything.

*NOUSAN URGES ACTING PRESIDENT OSINBAJO TO SIGN THE NEW OPEN UNIVERSITY BILL*

THE National Open University Students Association of Nigeria (NOUSAN), has urged Acting President Yemi Osinbajo to sign the new National Open University bill recently passed by the Senate.

A fortnight ago, the senate passed into law the bill that would allow graduants of the National Open University to participate in the National Youth Service Scheme (NYSC) and Law School.

NOUSAN President, Comr Nelson Nwaonicha who made the call on Sunday via a press statement made available to newsmen, said the new law has given life to the over 400,000 students of the university.

According to the NOUSAN President “NOUN has provided highly competent graduates ahead of other institutions in Africa, because of its unique mode of learning that focuses on extensive research and I.C.T based system, which is the current global efficient mode of education in latest paradigm shift in learning”.

He added that, “NOUN Students have won international competitions, and foreign Governments have shown various interest in our open education research programs over the years. This should show the massive awakening happening in Nigeria, in favour of Nigerian Youth”.

Nwaonicha commended the Nigerian Senate for passing into law the amended bill of the National Open University and thanked the NOUN management for it relentless fight in bringing the new bill into fruition.

Advise to e-exam student (100-200)

This is the period that you can build your GP if possible don't have below 3.5 in this period.

To get a good GP know the following:

Do your tma well, have a minimum of 30/30 it possible

Study your TMA well for exams because it is the area of concentration

Read your materials because some questions will come from them.

Have a group discussion group sometimes you remember what other says faster than what you read
Remember a single mark can make a difference between A grade and B

Never rush to enter the exam hall

Note dates, places and names they come out more in fill in the gap

Ask questions from people that goes in before you if they care to share

Never go to your centre late

Again build your GP now. I never had my GP dropped during this period not until POP and even sometimes you have missing results when doing POP so what you build now helps you.

Finish your TMA ASAP you can private chat me for assistance.

For more clarification you can private chat me.
