NOUN To Graduate 12 First Class, 5,975 Other Students Twelve students of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) have bagged first class honours while 5,975 students would be awarded various degree certificates in its forthcoming 6th convocation ceremony on Saturday in Abuja. Speaking during a press briefing ceremony last weekend ahead of the NOUN convocation ceremony, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Abdallah Adamu said the university has 224,000 students out of which 5,975 will be graduating at the event adding that the graduands spread across the eight faculties of the institution. The NOUN VC said prisoners who want to study at the university would not be charged tuition fees. “If a prisoner wants to study in noun, it is free of charge. We feel while they are there, they should not be denied education. But once he or she is out of prison they will pay,” he said. The VC also disclosed that the law establishing the university was going to be amended to address the contentious issue of its law programme and the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) entrance. According to him, the National Assembly would be holding a public forum to expunge the phrase which said the university will provide knowledge through ‘correspondence’ and replaced it with ‘Open Distance Learning (ODL).’ “The Senate will hold public hearing on the law upholding NOUN on Monday 16th January, to make amendments on the provision of law school and when that is expunged after second and third reading, we are home-free. “Part of the essence of the public hearing is to erase the concept that NOUN is part time. No, we are not part time. So if we emphasise that we are full time, then the barriers of NYSC will be moved away. NYSC will listen to us.” He said law students from the university would attend law schools and graduates would soon be mobilized for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) after the amendment. “I can conveniently tell you everybody is worried about our students not being admitted into the Nigerian law school,” Adamu said. He said the university had reduced the incidences of missing results after developing its own independent web portal following the termination of the agreement with an IT company that developed and managed the previous portal. |

Prof. Abdalla Adamu, NOUN, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Abdalla Adamu, the Vice-Chancellor, National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) says the Senate will hold public hearing on the status of NOUN’s Law programme and other issues affecting the institution. Adamu, who disclosed this at a pre-convocation news conference on Friday in Abuja, said that the public hearing would hold on Jan. 16. He said that NOUN’s sixth convocation would be held on Jan. 21, at the institution’s permanent site, Jabi, Abuja. According to him, the bill to reposition the institution recently passed second reading. There has been a lingering stand-off between NOUN and the Council for Legal Education (CLE) over non-admittance of NOUN’s law graduates Nigerian into Law School. “The Senate will on Jan. 16 hold a public hearing on NOUN law; in NOUN’s original Act, it was said that it will deliver via correspondence. “That was why CLE our Law graduates cannot be admitted into Law school. “That aspect has been expunged; it has passed second reading and once the Senate substitutes Correspondence clause with Open Distance Learning (ODL) clause, there will no longer be issues. “It took a while for people to understand that NOUN operates full time as there is a difference between ODL and online learning,’’ he said. The vice-chancellor said that in 1983 when NOUN was conceptualised, it was for working class people but the pressure on conventional universities had made the institution an alternative for young students. He said that since 2011, the institution had witnessed an influx of young students who graduated at ages suitable for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). According to him, when the Senate amendment clarifies that NOUN is not a part time institution, NYSC will start accepting NOUN products who meet the age and other requirements. Adamu alerted the public to the existence of a fake admission portal www.noun.com.ng with the intent to defraud unsuspecting applicants, students and the general public. He said that the authentic NOUN portal is www.nounonline.com, which was properly secured. No fewer than 5,975 students would participate in the forthcoming NOUN convocation |
Greatest NOUNITES, NOUN's new website is a wrong step in good direction. I am not a web developer but I think people who developed this site erred to have used dot com when dot edu or dot edu.ng easily state what the site is about. How many Uni in Nigeria use dot com? In Nigeria, when leaders change baton, problem of continuity arises and in this case, NOUN students are the ones suffering it. We may not know the details of what is going on, but lots of questions arise. Questions like what machinery was on ground that the old VC was benefitting from that will not align with the new VC's interest? Was there anything wrong with the former IT system other than they are external bodies? I can go on. NOUN administrators did badly, they should have informed students or at least brief them about what the school is planning and how it affects them, what they should do. Don't the users of these portal deserve to know that the portal was going to be shut down? You ended a contract without communicating to students who haven't finished their TMAs, just threw them into confusion. I am sorry to say, that is irresponsible of the authority. Now, we don't know if the site has been launched, we rely on rumours to know what is what. Some of us can't even login while others think we should wait. Then, the timing of the new website is wrong. In the middle of TMA, fees weeks to exams. I will argue that there could be a better time. Websites can be developed and running before shutting down the previous one. After all, they are of different domain names and host. If the site was your source of income as an individual, will you shut down one before the other is ready? Why the rush? Do you care about we students at all? I demand NOUN Students are appropriately updated about the state of things, how it affects them and what they should do. We youths are just tired of the kind of leadership we have in school and national levels, people call themselves leaders and remain insensitive to the plight of their followers. Just today, Oyo governor was telling students to go and do their worst. Imagine!!! I wait to see how the complaint site will work, we have so many things to complain about and the site should emphasize provision of solutions, answer to questions and quick update on matters arising. We will not welcome a platform that takes problem and won't bring solution. Prof, our expection is high. Pardon my grammar and article structures, I wrote in haste and in anger. LONG LIVE NOUNITES, Anthony |

Be patient!!! Until it's officially announced that all Students can use the site..Buh for Noun the website is just there not functioning...some people are complaining of not seeing their amount from the old portal into the new one...So my advice is that u go to ur Study Centre for assistance |
Payment For New Semester Registration/Courses Here’s a candid advice to all my friends there in any Noun study centres in the country! DON’T pay anything yet into your portal until the school management board has announces that it is officially resuming for academic activities. If you failed to follow the above instruction, then take note that whatever amount of Money you paid will go for the last semester and you will be required to pay another Thirteen thousand Naira (N13,000) as compulsory fee by the time portal officially opens for registration. Before you will now use the remaining balance (which is the money you paid in earlier) to register your courses and examination. Please take note that all compulsory fees are removed automatically by the portal as you pay into bank and not from the money you initially have in your account in the school website. We’ll appreciates it, if you will share this information with your friends on facebook, Twitter and Google+, using the share buttons below. |

Management Is Working On School website ... E-exam To Start Three Days After The End of P.O.P Exams - - NOUN, Benin-Study Center Director Compiled By Emeke Nwaoboli (07038864995) BENIN-CITY - - The National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Benin-Study Center, Benin-city, was agog today after the center director, Dr Sunday Ekanah Kolawale held a two-hour orientation programme with students. The attendance of the orientation programme was massive as most students were anxious to hear from the 'horses mouth ' Why the School website has been unaccessible for some time and the fate of students who haven't registered their courses and exams, nor submitted their TMAS due to the shot down of students edu-portal. Below is a compilation of the highpoints of the orientation. 1. According to the center director, the school is aware that its website is presently unaccessible, and is doing everything possible to resolve the hiccup. However, he did not state the reason behind the shot down of the website. 2. He noted that PEN-ON-PAPER(POP) exams will Commence on Monday October 24th as scheduled irrespective of whether the website is reopened or not. 3. He unveiled that POP exams will end on November 15 and that E-exams will Commence ABOUT three days after. 4. He said NOUN has upped its war against examination malpractice and that all students nabbed during such acts will be expelled. 5. He advised students to be confident during exams, prefer to fail and rewrite exams than indulging in malpractices. 6. He revealed that POP examination answer script formats and colours have been changed and that each faculty now have their distinctive answer script colour. 7. He advised students to always pray before commencing exams and be religious with exam ethics to avoid missing results. 8. He stated that Tutor Marked Assignment (TMA) will soon be changed to Computer Marked Assignment (CMA). The implication, he said, is that students would no longer be able to print out their TMAs, nor snapshot it, but will now have to submit their CMAs directly on their portals just as exam is done. This, he added, was cropped up to curb the use of TMAS for malpractice in E-exams. 9. Reacting with echoes of tantrums towards the above policy, the center director asked students which they would prefer between E-exams and POP if they were to use just one of the formats in writing exams from 100 to 400Level and majority of the students nearly brought the roof of the school auditorium down while shouting 'E-EXAM IS BETTER'. 10. Dr Kolawole reiterated, just like he told REPOTA ATLARGE in an interview, that there are 28 toilets in Benin-Study Center, 18,000 active students and over 200,000 NOUN students in about 74 study centers within the six geo-political zones in Nigeria. 11. Sequel to that, he told students to ALWAYS DISTURB members of staff when faced with challenges for if not disturbed, they might not be able to resolve all issues faced by the students. 12. He advised students to always call, chat on whatsapp, text, or email him when faced with academic problems. However, he cautioned them to be diplomatic in their approach. 13. speaking On the fate of students who have not paid their school fees, he said it's their own cup of tea for they had the opportunity to pay for a long time before the mishap of the portal. 14. For those who have paid but have not registered, he said they would be able to register if the portal reopened before exam. 14. IN REPLY TO A QUESTION ON WHAT WOULD HAPPEN TO STUDENTS WHO HAVE NOT SUBMITTED THEIR TMAS DUE TO THE INACCESSIBILITY OF THE PORTAL, HE SAID THE SCHOOL WOULD REOPEN THE PORTAL, BUT PERADVENTURE IT'S NOT REOPENED, STUDENTS WOULD BE MARKED WITH A YARDSTICK OF 100% USING THEIR EXAMS ONLY. I.e, students would be marked over hundred percent using their exams only. 15. Addressing the issue of missing results, he said it is mostly the fault of students as some purposely write wrong matriculation numbers or their phone numbers instead of their real matriculation numbers. 16. For those who have missing results, he admonished them to write letter of complaints, or in his candid advice, rewrite the exams. 17. He acknowledged that students complain he is always frowning and advised them not to be perturbed with that as he is a jovial person who is always not happy with the plight of students. 18. He stated that final year students who still have money in their portal would have have a refund as long as they don't owe convocation fees of N10,000 after graduation. 19. He stated that 'new' results have been released and that those who have more than one result for a particular course should notify the ICT department. 20. For those who have more than one exam on the same day at the same time, he stated the institution would be 'magnanimous' enough to allow the students write the two exams the same time as the clash is as a result of spill-overs or students' non-compliance with the school's outlined registrable courses per semester. 21. He stated that physically challenged students and 'original' pregnant women are granted the freedom to enter exam halls without staying on the on the queue like the rest students. 22. For students who have submitted their project topics but are yet to be approved, he admonished them to continually recheck the notice board for updates. 23. He noted that stamping of exam slips ought to have commenced but will Commence as soon as possible. For those who cannot print out theirs, he said that would not stop them from commencing the exam. 24. And finally, he told students to be alert and that they would be informed /kept abreast of any new development. ------------------------------------------------ What do you have to say about this? ANOUNCEMENT!!! NOUN is subscribed to a database server (Microsoft) and that is the picture you always see lately whenever you click on course registration or try to open the TMA portal. Sometimes, they have issues with the subscription (which may be _*possibly*_ due to some financial or technical glitch) and once such issue comes up, the NOUN portal will be bringing out that blue screen until the issue is resolved. It sometimes takes up to a week or less, depending on how long the due processes are taken before the issues are resolved. it has affected the TMA portal, Students portal and also Application portal (for prospective students who are applying to for admission in NOUN). This however does not indicate closure or the portal. If at all, anything would close, it is the REGISTRATION PORTAL and not the TMA portal. No portal would close without prior notice. So knowing the implications on students, NOUN would never close the TMA portal without prior information! The TMA portal will be re-opened once the server issue is being resolved. If at all it would close, then you will be informed head. Tho the notification might be short (that would be up to their discretion). Usually, NOUN TMA portal does not close until the very last day of the e-exam.. even if anything would change (perhaps as a result of the new administration), there will still be a prior information in that respect, no matter what. We are still working on it, SHT ALWAYS ABOVE |
