The Vice President for Agriculture, the Human and Social Development at the African Development Bank (AfDB), Dr. Jennifer Blanke, has resigned her position.

The bank’s Communications and External Relations Department made this known in a statement yesterday, saying Blanke’s resignation would take effect July 4, 2020.

She was quoted as saying: “I am leaving purely for family reasons to rejoin my family in Switzerland, after a very fulfilling time at the bank. I will miss the bank and the excellent team we have built. I will continue to strongly support the bank from wherever I am.

“I thank President Akinwumi Adesina for his strong leadership, guidance, and support which have undoubtedly motivated and helped my team and me to play a key role in the transformation of the bank. I feel privileged to have been given an opportunity to contribute to the bank’s agenda for accelerating Africa’s social and economic transformation.”

AfDB President, Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, expressed delight to have worked with Blanke over the past three years.

“She has demonstrated genuine leadership skills and moved the needles on so many fronts, especially in the areas of food security, women’s financial empowerment, and job creations. I wish her all the best and look forward to continued partnerships and engagement with Jennifer,” Adesina said.

The AfDB boss wished her all the best and looked forward to continued partnership and engagement with her.

Blanke joined the bank in early 2017 and has overseen a number of its programmes, according to the statement.

Then sincerity is the key. He should man up if actually he didn't misappropriate the money, by going to have sincere dialogue with them. If his move is not accepted, then, the can do what they want to do. The law didn't say a debtor should be killed by the lender. Once again, suicide shouldn't be an option

The debt per say doesn't worth committing suicide. Though, the amount must have been so huge compared to his assets, as a matter of fact, there are many people are in the same shoe with him or even much more than his.

Nevertheless, he should also remember that if the money is borrowed from micro finance or any other bank, they(bank) already has insurance cover in case of deatg, so, if he commits suicide, they'll recover their money. The question now is, who looses? I believe he can affirmatively answer the question.

In this difficult time, he should put himself together and ask God for divine revelation and direction on how or what he would do to sort out the mess. He shouldn't also engulf himself with what people we say and shame should be emotionally dealt with.

Finally, tough time doesn't last forever but tough people do. At the end of the turned, there's definitely going to be light!

Court sentences Uniport student to death over murder of eight -year-old girl

A High Court in Port Harcourt has sentenced a second-year student of Physics department, University of Port Harcourt, Ifeanyi Dike and one Ugochukwu Nwamiro to death by hanging over the murder of an eight-year-old girl, Victory Chikamso Nmezuwuba.

The duo was sentenced to death without options of fine. One is to be hung on his neck until he dies while the other is to be hung on the leg till he dies as well.

Dike, who was 23 years old when the incident happened in 2017, was apprehended by a local vigilante group in the Eliozu axis of Port Harcourt with a sack containing Chikamso’s remains following a tip-off. The local security outfit later handed Dike over to the police for further investigations and prosecution.

He (Dike) reportedly removed the victim’s eyes, vagina, finger and tongue, after defiling and murdering her with the assistance of his cousin, Ugochukwu.

Few days after he was handed over to the police, Dike escaped from the premises of the State Criminal Investigation Department, (SCID), with the aid of the police personnel on duty, Sgt Johnbosco Okoronze who failed to handcuff the suspect after he had finished writing his statement.

Dike’s escape raised serious criticism and condemnation on the police even as the then Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Zaki Ahmed, described it as unfortunate and an embarrassment to the police force, adding that such mistake resulted due to an individual’s negligence.

Few weeks later, Dike was however rearrested in Jos,plateau state capital by security operatives and was brought back to Port Harcourt for trial.

During trials of the case, the police prosecutor, Sgt. Blessing Oheyen tendered the body parts of the victim as evidence to the court.

Barely, three years after the trial, the Judge, Justice Adolphus Enebele, ruled that the evidence before the court shows that the duo conspired and murdered Chimkamso and hence, sentenced them to death.

The judge also sentenced Sergeant Johnbosco Okoronze of the State CID to one-year imprisonment for aiding the escape of Dike from Police Custody in PortHarcourt.

Family of the victim, Chikamso expressed relief on the judgement while relatives of Dike were seen in court weeping after the judgement.

The primary schools in Rivers State are crying for teachers and many needs urgent structural rehabilitation, yet, the governor want to build another primary school in a community that has two existing primary schools without care. Another misplaced priority.

Men are not treated like second hand people who have been given a golden opportunity by being married into the family as such need to to be under and serve everybody for the in-law family to love them. What will they have to complain about ?

I mean no matter the differences (and I’m sure they might have differences because we are all humans), they are still respected. The male-created cultures and traditions require it.
