This 5 Day Workshop/Training is Tagged FARMERS LINKAGE & CAPACITY BUILDING PROGRAMME (Using N.A.E.C Curriculum). The programme is slated as follows:

DAY 1 - SENSITIZATION: In other for farmers to maximise profit, we will introduce and link them to various input suppliers (Feedmills, Hatcheries, Fabricators of Mobile fish Ponds and Smoking Kiln and financial institution)

DAY 2 - TRAINING ON BEST PRACTICE/DEMONSTRATION: Fish farmers will be trained on Stocking, Feeding, Water Quality Management, Sorting (if necessary) and Harvesting. We will also start the Demonstration by Stocking 500 Juveniles on this day for all farmers to see.

DAY 3 & 4 - Business Module: We shall use the Nigeria Agriculture Enterprise Curriculum developed by USAID to train farmers on how to make choices and take critical decision.

DAY 5 - N.A.E.C & AGMEIS CURRICULUM: We have partnered with the CBN South South EDC & CAD Consulting to facilitate loans for fish farmers who need to buy inputs such as feed and fish seed (Juveniles)

In this Workshop/Training starting from Day 2 (Training on Best Practice) we intend to stock 500 Juveniles in a mobile fish pond for the following reasons:

1. To Demonstrate how to feed the catfish using broadcasting method as against spot feeding. Emphasizing the importance of even feed distribution and even growth.

2.We also intend to demonstrate the need to purchase floating fish feed from a reputable feedmill as against the use of bloodmeal and other diet produced locally by farmers.

3. We also want to prove over the next 4 months that it is more profitable using floating feed compared to any other feed from this Demonstration.

Hey guys!!!

Don't get mad at me marketing our products because they are the best. I don't even want to exchange words with you because I feel that's the level of your knowledge. When you upgrade, we can talk.

Ekpan Fish farm is the biggest fish farm cluster in West Africa. They depend on natural water bodies and earthen pond. The place is being deserted on a daily basis. The environment is not sustainable. It is Labour intensive and less productive and Farmers are continually losing money.

Yes! Catfish needs fresh water not dirty water. We depend on underground drinkable water and run flow through constantly in our farm. This water is fresher than most dirty water you think is fresh water. We depend on science and technology not tradition.

Please visit our YouTube channel to see videos of our farm. If you are around warri ask of tested farms or Numa farm, you will see what I am talking about. (Numa farm is the third largest farm in West Africa by the way). When these farms are selling, all earthen ponds shutdown, no sales at all. Lol

Don't criticize what you don't know about.

I am sharing a YouTube video with you on a farm that has wasted their capital on earthen ponds in Ogun state... They just upgraded and we are putting them through.

We educate, we don't fight, we teach we don't argue.

I love you

Chuvaak Mobile Fish Pond

The size of the ponds in this picture is 18FT X 9FT and each pond contains 2,500 table size Catfish.

A plot of land (50FT X 100FT), contains 16 of this pond with drainage and a store for feed and farm equipment. This means that you can now store more in a small space compared to earthen ponds or concrete ponds. 40,000 table size fish can be produced in a plot of land per season.

Another thing is that the pond has second hand value. And the cost of maintenance is very low. Just wash with soap after harvest unlike concrete ponds that you may need to cement it again.

We recommend this pond for you.

Agriculture / Why I Believe That I Will Be Relevant In My Industry by aoukane(m): 12:11pm On Aug 21, 2018
***Phew***
I meet alot of people (great minds actually) as I go about my daily business and sometimes I am stunned when we rub minds. I usually get to find out that what I thought was a big idea and a take over strategy for my company "www.facebook.com/chuvaakgroup" to become the market leader in my industry, is what the person may be talking about casually. It's amazing!!!

At the end of the day brethren, nothing is new under the sun. We keep copying and pasting and merging old ideas and reinventing it. I read a book "Zero to One" (Google is your friend), that book changed my thought pattern. I can literally say that I have stepped up my game. I thought I was in a competition really, I thought I was competing with people in my industry; until I read this book.

I will share a piece of my thoughts with anyone on the earth for free right now (I'm actually doing myself a favour though). Long story short: I have learnt to partner with industry players that we may grow as against competing with them.

I Alfred O. Ukane, say this with all humility; My competitors are in China! My competitors are in the United States! My competitors are in Europe! This is the only way to play in other to get out of smallness. If I compete with strong brands (which I won't advertise here), it will put me in a position of superior-thinking that my immediate environment cannot explain. If I fight with a Goat, I am in the league of Goats but if I wrestle with a Lion, I will be in the league of Lions. If I must have the lion share, I must have a lion heart.

This is the key brethren, let your service be for the betterment of humanity. Let your business solve problems. Ideas rule the world is an old term, Problems rule the world is an immediate term, Solutions rule the world is the future term and that future is now.

As an employee or an entrepreneur let your work or business be a solution to somebody. Let it improve people's lives in many ways. Let your business help somebody get things done in a cheaper, faster, better, (you can add to the list) way.

Food for thought:
Bill Gates never planned to be the richest man or the market leader in His industry, he only has a vision to solve problems for the world. The market leader doesn't choose or elect Itself, the problems they solve actually do (better put, the solutions they offer actually do)

From today, let this be your thought, let this motivate you to redefine what you do, that we may have a better Africa!

I remain my Humble self, serial entrepreneur ALFRED OGHENEAKPOROBO UKANE (Hahahahahaha)

God Bless You!!!

The source of your catfish seed (fingerlings, post or juveniles) is very important. It is always advisable to buy seeds from Hatcheries with good farm ethics. The parent or broodstock used for production should be above 2.5kg and above 9months old. If possible negotiate for shoot outs. They grow faster and bigger.
Agriculture / Re: Catfish Problems And Solutions by aoukane(m): 9:54pm On Jul 30, 2018
Catfish is a fresh water fish, not a mud water or a dirty water fish. The idea of culturing catfish outside their natural habitat is to create the same environment in the habitation of man. When you grow catfish in Earthen pond, it will not express it's gene to its full potential because the environment is not the best for it. Earthen ponds was used by low income farmers to raise catfish for home consumption and maybe small sales. Hence they had to creatively take advantage of their environment to raise catfish.

However, if you're producing catfish at a commercial scale you cannot use earthen pond. I make bold to say it is not built for profit except you have a means of getting constant fresh water into the pond. Mind you, fish depends on the dissolved oxygen to do well, infact high dissolved oxygen level increase their rate of feed consumption and conversion. The mud water contains other substances (chemicals) and materials that are displacing a reasonable amount of dissolved oxygen.

You need to overcome this challenge by connecting an inlet where fresh water will continually flow into your pond and waste water out through the outlet. By so doing, you're creating the best environment that will enable the catfish to express it's gene.

I will be sharing more tips... Stay connected.

This thread is created with the intention to educate, analyze and solve challenges, fish farmers encounter in raising catfish.

Some fish farmers have complained that they have not been making profit. Why is it so?
Others shout for joy that they made profit but forgot to include their overhead cost before declaring profit.

How do you calculate profit really?
Are you faced with water challenges?
Are your fish dying and you have not been able to find the reason and arrest it?
Should you feed your fish with locally made feed only or should you combine it with foreign feed?

State your problem (real problems please) and let us solve it together.
Great Farmer! Great Nation!

Agriculture / The Marketplace Is A Jungle (work Smart) by aoukane(m): 12:19am On Jul 19, 2018
Success is a journey and not a destination. While you walk in the path of success you have to embrace failure and temporary defeat. This is not meant to slow you down or stop you from achieving consistent results, it is meant to build you into the person called SUCCESS.

The Main Gist
My company "Chuvaak Nigeria Limited" (www.facebook.com/chuvaakgroup) sells different products and one of them is the Chuvaak Mobile Fish Pond. When we started advertising our mobile fish ponds on the internet, we did not WATERMARK our pictures. After creating the content for our advert stating the obvious; why fish farmers should grow into using mobile fish ponds as against Earthen and Concrete ponds, in other to increase their profit, utilize their space profitably and maximise production. We posted a picture of a Mobile fish pond we supplied to a client in warri, Delta state on facebook and on what's app (The picture on the left without logo).

About a month later, while I was on my bed understudying how people generate huge traffic on their page, I saw the pond I snapped and posted, watermarked with someone else's logo on it (Picture on the right with logo). I was stunned. I got angry, why would they steal someone's content (product) and claim ownership? They should have done theirs and know the stress involved, I said to myself.

I looked at the post again and read it thoroughly. This is what I found. The page that posted this picture has 13,000+ likes on facebook (my company has 108 likes *smh*) and they credited the post to another brand, whose logo is on the picture.

I thought again, they have a wider reach, what do I do? I commented on the post, liked the post and I am contacting them to partner with them to sell my products on commission but this time my pictures will be Watermarked with our company logo (I am turning my lemon into lemonade... Instead of complaining and sulking, I have decided to partner with them, since I have the product and they have a platform)

Entrepreneurs, when you market; Brand your products, watermark your pictures and create your content yourself (or with your Team) before publishing them on your platform or other platforms. Digital marketing moves faster than the speed of light.

Agriculture / Re: Cassava And Maize Weed Control by aoukane(m): 4:14pm On Jul 08, 2018
Hey Bro...

I would have recommended Striker because it is a selective herbicide for Maize. And cassava also has selective herbicide but the challenge is if you use any of the selective herbicides one of the crop will have to die. Any Agro chemical Containing paraquat or glyphosate will not get the job done and this is raining season. I will advise you weed it manually in other to maintain a high plant population
Agriculture / FARM WORKERS PALAVA??? by aoukane(m): 2:53am On Jul 06, 2018
FARM WORKERS PALAVA

It is no news that LABOUR is one of the many challenges any successful farmer has to Master in other to have a smooth farming season. We have been plagued by this huge challenge too and after we conquered it I told myself "EVERY DISAPPOINTMENT IS NOT A BLESSING IF YOU DON'T LEARN THE LESSONS"

On several occasions we have employed different sets of unskilled labour to help with the routine activities on our farm like Weeding, Spraying and Harvesting. Recruiting them on these occasions often took this process:

We put out an Opening for "Farm Workers" (Farm Attendants) --->
We get a recommendation --->
The Worker shows up to discuss Terms --->
We agree on terms and employ them.

They usually come broke. So we basically have to give them a part of their salary upfront for them to start work. For a worker earning N25,000.00 for example, they will get N10,000.00 upfront for their feeding and general upkeep. Maximum in 2 weeks time they will be demanding for another money (Probably 8K) and by the time the month is ending they will get their balance of 7k and the cycle continues.

If these guys continue to work for you, by the third month they are already fed up. You will begin to hear complaints like "money no even dey this work sef" "Oga just dey pay our salary like peanut" and "I Don tire for this kind work sef" They forget that, it is their fault. They came broke and have been living with a broke mentality. They often become rude and may leave your farm without notice and distort your farming process.

Whereas their counterparts even with Bsc. receives N30,000.00 monthly in most private schools and still wait till the end of the month to get their salary. Or is it those of them that works in the Bank or in the Oil and Gas sector like chevron? They too, get their salary at the end of the month. You can't tell Chevron, Shell or NPDC to pay you advance because they employed you. In fact consider it a favour and wait till the end of the month while working productively before you can smile to the bank.

Here is what we (@chuvaakgroup || www.chuvaak.com) did to address this psychological malfunction. We plugged in simple HR principles.
1. Make public our vacancy
2. Describe the Method of Application (CV, Application letter, etc)
3. Contact shortlisted Candidate
4. Interview them
5. Give Training
6. Give offer letter and contract for service form

After we have conducted the recruitment exercise, we train them, give them Identity card and open a salary account for them, where we do a transfer to them monthly. We state it clear, we do not pay upfront, if you don't have money for your upkeep and welfare, do not resume.

Guess what guys after we have adopted the former process and I have seen over 8 unskilled workers leave us. The guys currently onboard now see our farm as a company and they respect themselves accordingly because we do not compromise our laid down rules.

P.S: Assumption is the lowest level of knowledge. When you confront ignorance with knowledge, The result is shocking.
Act like the big players in the industry and employees and people generally will take you seriously.

About this time Last year, I went to a client's (name with held) vegetable (cucumber) farm. She contracted our company @chuvaakgroup (www.chuvaak.com) with the Farm Set - Up. After her first harvest, the farm was neatly cleared and the workers were about to reinforce the bamboo stakes, so she called me to come and inspect the progress of work and to ensure that everything is going as planned.

When I saw that the farm was neatly cleared and the debris deposed, I was thrilled and I started praising her workers but she started to wink at me and pulled me back not to praise them, that it would enter their head and they will start misbehaving. I looked at her with so much amazement.

After my inspection, I told them to reinforce the bamboos as planned, add manure, plant and spray pre emergence herbicide immediately after planting.

As she saw me to the car, I told her that the only way she can get the best from her staff is to identify their strength and reward them appropriately. It is too naive to see someone delivering maximally in their work and not praise them. You will kill their creativity if all you do is focus on their weakness and reinforce them negatively.

PS: Every one is not born to be an Entrepreneur but that doesn't change the fact that Entrepreneurs are NOT better than their staff. They only have different level of Responsibility.
