Travel / We Deny Nigerians With Criminal Records Visas – S’africa by apogeez(m): 1:43pm On Apr 13, 2015
Consul-General, South African High Commission in Nigeria, Ambassador Mogethi Monaisa, on Monday said the commission sometimes deny issuance of its visas to Nigerians it discovered to be having criminal records.
“The commission does not just deny people visas, but it is either that those it sometimes deny issuance of visas are discovered to have criminal records or failed to meet its requirements.
“Nigerians should personally visit our websites for necessary information and requirements for applying for South African visas,” Monaisa told the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos.
He said Nigerians should facilitate their visa processing by submitting it to VFS Global.
“This is the company that the commission has authorised to facilitate the processing of visa applications submitted by Nigerians.
“The South Africa High Commission wants Nigerians applying for visas to know that it is only VFS Global that is recognised by it to facilitate visa applications on its behalf,” Monaisa said.
The consul-general advised Nigerians to desist from patronising unauthorised agents and intermediaries who would charge them huge fees and end up without achieving any results, adding that such act was illegal.
“They should know that VFS is our only agent to handle issues of visas for the commission,” he said.
Monaisa said the commission would deny such Nigerians the South African visas if it discovered it, noting that the applicants would also forfeit the fees paid to such illegal agents.
He assured Nigerian applicants seeking to obtain the South African visas that the commission would grant their requests as long as they satisfied the requirements guiding the issuance.

Politics / APC, Fayose Clash Over Student Leaders’ Arrest by apogeez(m): 2:19am On Jan 27, 2015
The All Progressives Congress in Ekiti State has berated Governor Ayodele Fayose for the arrest of students’ leaders who participated in the campaign rally of the party’s presidential candidate, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, in the state on Saturday.
According to the opposition party, the National Vice-President, External, National Association of Nigerian Students, Tosin Ogunkuade, has been arrested on the order of the governor for addressing the crowd during Buhari campaign in the state on Saturday.
A statement by the APC state Publicity Secretary, Taiwo Olatubosun, said Ogunkuade’s offence was that the student leader highlighted the challenges facing the Nigerian students, saying the present government was not capable of addressing the hardships being faced by the students in accessing quality education.
“He said to the applause of hundreds of students in attendance that Buhari presented a better hope for students in their educational pursuits,” Olatubosun said.
But Fayose said that those arrested were the APC thugs caught with dangerous weapons and recruited by one APC member in the House of Representatives to terrorise supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party in Erijiyan and Ikogosi-Ekiti.
Olatubosun said thugs trailed Ogunkuade to Ikogosi-Ekiti just 24 hours after he spoke, “where he and other students were seriously injured after they were attacked with machet and other dangerous weapons.
“After these students were attacked at Ikogosi, they ran to Efon-Alaye Police Station to report the matter. To our surprise, the police detained them before they were transferred to Aramoko-Ekiti Police Station.
“To our shock again, just this morning, one of their colleagues, Damilare Bewaji, who went to visit them at the Aramoko Police Station, was also arrested and detained by the police on the order of the governor,” he added.
Olatunbosun described the arrest as one in the series of other attacks on the APC sympathisers and supporters after Saturday’s campaign.
“Just this morning, the home of a former Commissioner for Finance under Governor Kayode Fayemi, Dapo Kolawole, escaped being razed on the order of the governor.
“His offence was that he pasted the APC flags and posters of the party’s candidates on his building and Fayose does not want to see these posters on his way to Ijurin where he is billed to install the Oba of the town. The thugs shot at Mr. Kolawole’s compound as well as that of his father, Pa Kolawole.
“It is curious that the students, who were the complainants, are now being turned into the accused, as the police are being forced to slam criminal charges against the innocent students.”
The APC spokesman urged the police to stop being partisan in the handling of political crisis in the state while he reminded the governor that he did not have the monopoly of violence.
However, Fayose in a statement by his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, announced that four APC thugs had been arrested by the police.
“The thugs were arrested with guns, axes, cutlasses and other dangerous weapons while trying to escape through Efon-Alaaye at about 3am today.
“The thugs were Odebunmi Idowu (from Ilupeju-Ekiti), Aliyu Yusuf (from Ibadan), Oladayo Obikoya (from Ikogosi) and Ogunkuade Oluwatosin (a.k.a Jasper).
“They were arrested in a red-coloured Nissan Sunny with registration number Ekiti AH 176 EFY, and were moved to the Aramoko-Ekiti Police Station, where they were detained briefly before they were moved to the Police Headquarters, Ado-Ekiti,” the statement said.

Politics / INEC Rejects Seven Gov Candidates by apogeez(m): 2:08am On Jan 27, 2015
The Independent National Electoral Commission has rejected the governorship candidates of seven parties.
The parties and the states affected according to the commission, are the Peoples Party of Nigeria in Delta State; Labour Party in Niger State; the New Nigeria Peoples Party in Ogun State; and the Unity Party of Nigeria in Oyo State.
Others are the United Democratic Party in Rivers State; and the Peoples Democratic Movement in Sokoto and Zamfara states.
No reason was given by the commission for the action, which was made known via its bulletin. The commission did not also give the names of the affected candidates.
In a decision extract issued and signed by the Director (Commission’s Secretariat), Mr. Ishiaku Gali, INEC also approved that the only candidate for the House of Representatives in Ado/Opoku/Ogbadibo Federal Constituency of Benue State, be declared elected on the day of the election by the Returning Officer.
INEC hinged its decision on the provision of Section 41 (1) of the Electoral Act 2010 (as amended) which provides that, “If after the expiration of time for delivering of nomination papers, withdrawal of candidates and the extension of time as provided for in this Act there is only one person whose name is validly nominated in respect of an election, other than to the office of the President or Governor, that person shall be declared elected.”
Consequently, the candidate, Mr. Christian Abah, of the Peoples Democratic Party, being the only contestant in the constituency has been declared the winner without election.
Aged 50, Abah has a General Certificate of Education after attending a college of education.

Politics / Buhari’s VP List: Oshiomhole,fashola, Fayemi, Amaechi by apogeez(m): 10:51am On Dec 14, 2014
The All Progressives Congress has pruned its search for Gen.Muhammadu Buhari’s (retd.) running mate to three incumbent governors and a former one. SUNDAY PUNCH reliably gathered on Saturday that the leadership of the party has the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola (SAN); his Edo State counterpart, Mr. Adams Oshiomhole; and Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State, as well as former Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, on its final list of four. It was learnt that the APC governors had demanded that one of them should be picked as the running mate of Buhari, who emerged as the party’s presidential candidate on Thursday. Our correspondents gathered that Oshiomhole and Amaechi made the list because some leaders of the APC feel that South-South should produce
the vice-president in order to cut down the votes of President Goodluck Jonathan, who is also from the geo-political zone. Other party leaders are pushing for the South-West because of the massive support the zone, gave to Buhari at the presidential primary. This group believes that the zone which has suffered so much marginalisation by the Jonathan-led Federal Government, should be rewarded for the sacrifices made towards building an alternative platform. A top ranking member of the party, who pleaded anonymity because he was not authorised to speak to the media on the issue, confided in SUNDAY PUNCH that Buhari received block votes from South-West delegates during the party’s presidential primary. The source said, “Buhari got almost 100 per cent of votes from the South-
West; that is even more than what came from the North-West where he comes from because the delegates there were divided between Atiku Abubakar, Rabiu Kwankwaso and him. “You must agree that the four aspirants we have on the list showed uncommon sportsmanship and they have different strengths. It is going to be a tough decision for us to make on Monday. With the Edo State governor, we can get South-South votes and the labour movement. With
Amaechi, we can also get South- South votes. Fashola is immensely popular but he is a Muslim and that is where Fayemi, a Christian comes in.” Another source, who is a governor said Buhari prefers a Christian as his deputy. His preference for such a person, it was further gathered, was aimed at erasing the notion that Buhari is a “religious fanatic.” The governor, who spoke with our correspondent on Saturday afternoon on condition of anonymity, also said the South-West really wants the position. He said, “The zone came to the merger with about five governors, many senators and members of the House of Representatives. They deserve to be considered for a top position in the APC if we form the government at the centre. “Again, the zone is the most marginalised in the current dispensation. So, they deserve to be pampered.” He said it was true that Prof. Yemi Osinbajo (SAN) was also considered from the South-West. The governor said, “Osinbajo is not only a strong member of the RCCG, he is a pastor there. He is also a right hand man of the General Overseer of the church, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, who is well respected across the country and in the Christian community. “So, those who are favourably disposed to him argued at the meetings we had in Lagos on Friday that his pairing with the former head of state would be beneficial to the party.” The governor added that while Fashola seems to be the toast of many for the position, his religious background is working against him. “Yes, he is seen as the most qualified for the position in the country, but we don’t want to play into the hands of our enemies who may now use the religion aspect to campaign against us. The country is in an unusual situation,” he added. He said Fayemi’s loss of the governorship election in Ekiti was a minus for him and those who are pushing his case. “Some say his inability to win his reelection bid is not good for him, even though we all agree that he is a good material. Besides, he is the only Christian among the governors from his zone,” the source added. The Director of Publicity of the Buhari 2015 Support Group Centre, Dr. Chidia Maduekwe, told SUNDAY PUNCH that he was certain that the party and its candidates would give Nigerians a credible alternative. Also speaking on Buhari’s running mate, the Publicity Secretary of the APC in Ondo State, Mr. Rotimi Fashakin said, “The APC has proven to be a different party from all the parties the General had been involved in. “It is a truly national party and that is why it is taking this long to come up with a name for his running mate. “Consultations are still ongoing and I can assure you that the person that the party will present to Nigerians is one that Nigerians will identify with. I foresee a thorough shellacking of Jonathan. This will be the first time an incumbent will lose elections.” Party reaches out to Obasanjo One of our correspondents also gathered that the party was reaching out to various interest groups in the zone including former President Olusegun Obasanjo. A member of the APC National Working Committee, who pleaded anonymity, said, “Some months ago, the leadership of the party met with the former president for his valuable advice. We are also reaching out to him on the issue of the vice- presidential candidate for his input.” Obasanjo had a few months ago warned the APC against fielding presidential and vice-presidential candidates of the same faith. It was gathered that among the names that had been suggested by Obasanjo was a former Governor of Osun State, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, who is a Christian from Osun
State. It was, however, learnt that some interests in the party felt that the fact that Oyinlola is a retired general like Buhari, might make the joint ticket difficult to sell. Amaechi’s aide backs govs’ demand Speaking on reports that APC governors want one of them to emerge as Buhari’s running mate, an aide to Governor Amaechi and his Chief of Staff, Tony Okocha, said the governors’ demand was in order. Okocha maintained that the APC governors had worked hard to lift the rating of the party and would not be going beyond their bounds should they request that one of them be nominated as Buhari’s running mate. On the possible nomination of Amaechi, the governor’s aide explained that though his boss remained qualified to be a running mate to the APC presidential candidate, Amaechi’s efforts towards the growth of the party was not for him (Amaechi) to be rewarded. “Amaechi is doing what he doing not for any reward, but for positive change. To Amaechi, becoming the running mate (to Buhari) is not a do- or-die affair. He (Amaechi) has very minute appetite for material things.” When contacted on Saturday, the National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Lai Mohammed said, “The party has yet to meet to discuss the issue of a running mate.”

Romance / How Do You Know If She Loves You? by apogeez(m): 8:23am On Dec 05, 2014
I think it is actually very easy to know if a woman loves you or not. See, women are extremists; when they love, they love absolutely. And when they hate, it is with a vengeance. Anything in between is tolerance. So, she either loves, tolerates or hates you. If she is in love, it glows off her. If she hates you, reeks of it. If you are not sure, most likely she is only tolerating you. If you were sure she loved you before, and you are no longer sure, then she has moved to the tolerance stage. But, don’t despair; most of us go through life “tolerated”, but believing we are loved. And women are quite content to leave us in our ignorance. In fact, very few people even know what it is to be truly loved by a woman. My dear friend, if she is with you, and you are not sure if she loves you or not, no she doesn’t love you, but she also hasn’t reached the point of hating you.
