Hey guys I was already in the process of filling another ds160 because I wanted to change the appointment location on my ds160 to abuja but I stopped halfway because I saw it wasn’t necessary and didn’t submit it I hope it won’t affect my other ds160 that I filled and submitted initially
TravelRe: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 16 by Approvalll: 6:40pm On Jul 23, 2021
Okay thank you very much
Pefuele:
It is possible for CGI to help transfer your DS-160 from Lagos to Abuja at the Embassy in Abuja but the staff strength now is light due to COVID guidelines so it will be better for you to fill another DS-160 for Abuja. Good-luck in your interview.

CafeNoir:
Location: Lagos Embassy
School: University of Cincinnati
Funding: N21,000 +
Deficit: N23,000
Sponsor: Uncle
Department: Aerospace Engr

My initial fears
- Brother in the US
- Source of funding is Uncle not Parent
- Not married
- No travel history

I interviewed with the loudest VO there. I saw that guy reject so many people and the fact that his voice is loud did not help. Man, I was so scared, I wanted to shit my pants. Anyways...

VO: Good morning. Pass me your passport and your i-20
Me: Good morning, sir.

VO: Tell me about your program and your plans.
Me: I am going to the University of Cincinnati for my Masters's degree in Aerospace engineering and Engineering Mechanics. My research area is going to be on Advanced combustion methods and alternative fuels. This basically looks into unconventional modes of combustion that increase the efficiency of gas turbines and also reduces the emission of certain toxic fumes. Since I currently work with steam and gas turbines in the Nigerian Power Sector, I am aware of the challenges that plague gas turbines and I hope my master's degree will equip me with enough knowledge to at least solve some of these challenges. (I might have mentioned the application of Gas Turbines in the Power Sector too.)

VO types and types and types. He didn't even make eye contact with me.

VO : Which family member is funding the rest of your studies. (My i-20 has "Family member" as a source of funds)
Me : My Uncle, my dad's brother.

VO : And what does he do?
Me : He's a director at xxxxx and he owns some property in xxxx which he rents out for both residential and commercial purposes.

I thought he was going to ask for SOA, but nope, Jesu mi o je. grin grin
Na so baba separate my i-20 from my passport. OMO, as I see say he separate am, I burst smile grin grin.

VO: I will be approving your visa. Make sure you take your i-20 with you to POE. Yada yada yada... I no even hear again. I just dey smile like idiot.
Me: Thank you.

VO: Also make sure you get some jackets because Cincinnati gets cold during the winter.
Me: * for my mind "Oga, no worry about that one, I go pack plenty jacket"

Tips:

1. Go with all required documents and supporting documents. Don't pay attention to those photocopying street guys, they will confuse you with different document names and then ask you to print with N2000 per copy. Complete your documents at home and stay focused. No lose guard.

2. Be confident. I know, I know. It is easier said than done, but it is necessary. That place is designed to stress you. You will be hearing people get rejected. You will see people freeze out of fear, but do not let it throw you off. Don't be tempted to change your answer last minute.

Imagine, the first thing I heard when I entered the hall was someone's rejection. In fact, I saw someone froze in front of the VO. He couldn't speak properly, his voice was quivering, and I know it wasn't for lack of preparation but fear. O' boy, fear hook me for like the first 5 mins, but I had to just calm down. Start to sing in your head if it will help you calm down; it helped me calm down sha.

3. Prep like your life depends on it. I had like 15 mock interviews in the space of two months, no joke. Be able to answer certain questions in your sleep. Especially questions about your research area and its link to your career plans IN NIGERIA.

4. Of course, if you believe in any form of deity, pray to it. I can't deny the place of grace in my experience.
Anyway, I wish everyone good luck.

The fact that you used "we" is my problem. Don't use "we". You are not part of them yet. Very simple.

I agree. my denial last-week crushed every wisps of hope I`d been foolish enough to nurture. A full-ride scholarship or graduate assistant position may not get you a visa approval but grace will... Do not listen to anyone that says otherwise.

TravelRe: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 16 by Approvalll: 4:33pm On Jul 20, 2021
That’s because most European countries are more developed and are first world countries so the US embassies there are very lenient with issuing visas honestly to get a us visa from Nigeria in the past was easier but due to economic downturn caused by a foolish and dull aboki president called buhari and his Fulani brothers hopefully Nigerians learn from their mistake from voting Fulani people in power as they are very evil self centered and wicked
TWoods:
Getting a visa is in our capacity. God will not come down and perform magic. Some of those VOs are Christians too… in Europe, getting a US visa is a breeze. Perhaps you think God showers them with more grace? We destroy our integrity on the altar of selfishness, greed and utter disregard to the laws of other countries, then cry grace when visas become a huge problem to get.

Bro it does you can be overqualified and still not get a visa I’m talking from personal experience the VO’s are humans and can be having a bad day and decide to transfer aggression to applicants by denying them everything concerning the US visa is a game of luck or grace as we know it and always remember we are blacks the policies of the western world are designed to keep the black at the bottom(white American people are naturally racists due to times of the slave trade never forget that most white people see black people as nothing more than animals truth can be bitter sometimes)
TWoods:
A US visa does not require “grace”.

Okay I am going to book my flight now for Friday of that week which is the 21st thank you for the advice God bless
Pefuele:
16th of August is a Monday if you are approved you can pick your VISA like Thursday or Friday of that week all things being equal. Then book your flight immediately.

In fall2019 some guys that did their interview who were placed on AP had their VISA approved after the program start date so it is possible for you to also defer your application to Spring after approval.

How can one call the embassy is there a phone number or somethinghuhhuh?

Yes, you can do an emergency request as long as you’ve not been denied in the space of 6 months. Attach the necessary documents (I-20 & SEVIS Receipt) with a strong justification in your request. Then follow up at intervals (email/call).

VISA APPROVED!
F1 (Fall 2021)
Abuja
July 2021
COA: 32K
First attempt
No GA or TA
Lasted not more than 2 minutes
Long post, short transcript

Little background...
It was a battle getting an interview date.
When I first booked, the earliest date was 2 months later than my school's resumption. Had to book anyway and requested for an expedited interview.
This was approved after 2 hours, thankfully.

Even after the Approval, there were no closer dates available. I did an email and got the usual response "...Please be advised that the availability of slots is at the sole discretion of the US Embassy."

God was still working.
After a few days, I checked and saw a date few days after my resumption date. I was happy knowing we're getting somewhere even if we were not there yet.

At this point, I felt I had exhausted all options. I was considering switching to Lagos (thank God I didn't). I didn't lose hope. I was working with faith.

Next thing, I saw someone make a post here in the afternoon about open dates in June ending and first week of July.
I hurriedly logged in to my account. Lo and behold, I could see those dates and quickly rescheduled to a more suitable and earlier date.

Guess what? In the middle of rejoicing and celebrating, I got 3 texts messages in 3 hours from a +1 number tagged 'US Visa Collection' on Truecaller. It read:
Your B1/B2 visa appointment at the US Embassy has been cancelled. Please check your email for more details.
Checked my email and saw the same mail from an address that had a semblance with the official email the Embassy uses for correspondence.

Oh boy! I hurriedly logged in to my dashboard and saw my appointment was still "scheduled". No shaking.

Mind you, I applied for an F1 not B1/B2.
Mischief makers at work.

Next was to prepare for my interview proper.
Through prayers and fasting, I prepared. Reached out to few people to join in prayers and prep. me. I had friends review my transcript and I had several video mock interview sessions.
S/O to Uche, @kemlaughs (for the several zoom mock sessions), Ekong, Mag. for y'alls commitment.

Long story short...
Arrived Abuja few days before to get used to the environment (lodged at Xcence Guest House by Emeka Anyaoku Street, Garki Abuja). 'Twas affordable and #500 away (bolt) from the Embassy and Close to a pharmacy/supermarket and big and affordable restaurant (Ojuelegba).

The big day came... arrived 2 hours before time. Of course I met with the mandem: "Bros staple your passport", "You don print this and that? You go come back meet us oo"... thanks to those that shared their experience and the guidance from Uche and @kemlaughs, I came prepared with necessary documents and didn't pay attention to them.

While waiting, I spoke in tongues, sang songs of praise and worship. It boosted my confidence.
Next we were asked to queue up at the gate, searched by the security then ushered into the Embassy.

After few minutes, those for 7:00am were called up to queue. The Embassy staff arranged our Int'l passport, signed I-20, passport photograph and DS-160 confirmation page accordingly.
Next we went through another round of check (airport standard) before we went to the next part of the building.

There, we queued up and went along with the documents sorted out (int'l passport, signed i-20, passport photograph and DS-160 confirmation page). We went to the interviewing section twice.
First was the final scan/verification of our documents, next was for the interview proper.

In there, it felt like it was judgement day grin
People rejoicing (I saw a man legit screaming "Jesus loves me" very expressively while the guy walking next to him was really disappointed and sad).
Mixed feelings, tension building up but I had to maintain beauty wink
Thankfully, the security started singing Obinasom by Mercy Chinwo and I joined in. It boosted my faith in God for a great outcome.

I kept declaring "My case is different".

In my very before, people were approved and denied.
Please, don't lose focus or let any of what you see mess up your psych. Don't even try to profile any VO.
Que sera sera...what will be will be.

Interview proper:
After exchanging pleasantries and biometric verification:
VO: I see you're going to Ohio University.
Me: Yes, that's right.

VO:Why Ohio University?
VO: What is your concentration?
VO: Who will be sponsoring your education?

VO: I will be approving your Visa (while handing me the white paper). And she talked about the covid protocol and all.

It felt like a dream. Had to shake myself to confirm this was real.

I return all the glory to God for doing what only Him could do...for taking the glory.
Big S/O to Uche for encouraging me right from the start in 2018/2019 till date. For reviewing my transcript and guiding me every step of the way. God bless you.
Big S/O to @kemlaughs for preparing me... gave me a lotta tips and prayer points and encouraged me to always stand in front of the mirror. Thanks for the mock-up sessions
S/O to Ekong and Mag.

Remember, the heart of a king (in this case, the VOs) is like the rivers of waters which God directs and He orders them to go whichever way He pleases.

Prepare and pray.
Trust God.
Celebrate grace.
