After hours of resistance, the Federal Government on Thursday forced states and local governments to share N680.687 billion as allocation for this month.

The much-awaited April 2020 Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) meeting which kicked off before noon with the technical session, was still ongoing as of press time last night.


A source told The Nation that at 5 pm that the plenary session collapsed when the state governments demanded to share the entire revenue generated for the month.

But the Federal Government rejected the request and insisted that it must save some money.

There exists a gentleman’s agreement between the three tiers of government that not less than N650 billion should be shared every month after the FAAC meeting.

Where there is a shortfall in revenue, the Federal Government is obligated to withdraw from strategy accounts to augment what is to be shared for the month.

The shortfall in March threw up controversy following Edo Governor Godwin Obaseki’s claim that N60 billion was printed by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to augment allocations.

Thursday, a drama ensued when the federation account recorded revenue of over N800 billion.

The state governments went up in arms when the Federal Government team announced that a portion of the money would be saved.

The source: “The Federal Government was obliged to honour the gentleman’s agreement of sharing N650 billion for the month. But the economic realities of today have forced it to save whatever it can to mitigate economic volatilities.

“The Federal Government, the source said, “stood its ground and after several hours of consultations between governors and their commissioners of finance on the one hand and a resolute Federal Government on the other.

“A compromise was reached and the Federal Government released an additional N30 billion to the already agreed N650 billion.

u guys shouldn't blame anyone for nucturing hope up to this extent .its like a case of a noble man who lost his expensive car to burglars n had resorted to check under the bed if he had mistakenly parked the car there .when d issue of minimum wage was raised ,we all thought that we have finally arrived n that its going to act as a financial catalist to our purchasing power ,until we received stipen of a minimum wage.the fault is not from the state rather the labour at the center who accept the new minimum wage to be calcalated in such way..don't even hope on promotion n arears ,because to me its a promising words aimed at calming the tension for a failed minimum wage or it may come to our reach after much agitation .my advice is ,go to work teach the students well but find other source of income .like poultry farming ,snailry ,fishery etc rearing these animals for money ll never downturn ones pedigree

My brother I don't think you are 100% correct,NLC president said on air that the money added to our money was not the true reflection of the minimum wage,she said this when they were planning on going on strike and that it needs to be reflected on a chart,she also said that the government does not have the right to add anything to our salary which is not the true reflection if the minimum wage.For the implementation she said on air recently on 92.3 FM that a circular will be sent to the various ministries and to the local government council so please let's wait and see by next month and it is good to be hopeful.

I should expect my Feb and March 2016 arrears too?...it's just so unfair that we all do the same job and some are paid while others are owed...I remember the enthusiasm I started this job with..it just died, I do it now just for my conscience and the children sake...not For Rivers State Government..A woman being married to a man expects her husband to meet certain needs..failure to do that, he will be denied his conjugal rights by the woman..so because Rivers State Government married me into the classroom as a public servant, they cannot Bleep me and use me anyhow they want... I have needs to be met.
