Showunmi Concludes The Alternative Movement Townhall Meeting, Carpets Promoters Of ADC Coalition
A PDP Chieftain, Segun Showunmi has concluded his nationwide The Alternative Movement townhall meeting in Abeokuta, Ogun State where he took a swipe at the persons promoting the ADC-backed coalition which seeks to unseat the APC government
He had embarked on the nationwide townhall meeting under his socio-political organisation, The Alternative Movement drawing it to a close with the South West region in Abeokuta.
Speaking at the well attended meeting at Dlk event centre Abeokuta, Showunmi said The Alternative Movement seeks to reorientate Nigerians on the need to fight against voters’ apathy, vote buying, ethnic discrimination and recycling of old political players.
He clearly stated that he was interested on the outcome of the 2027 elections which he said should be a matter of concern to every Nigerian.
He criticized politicians who have made politics about themselves rather than about the country, noting that The Alternative wants the best of us to lead the rest of us irrespective of party lines.
He condemned the coalition that has now adopted the ADC as a platform to unseat the APC in 2027, saying those who made up the coalition cannot provide any formidable force against the president Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
In another interview, he stated that the coalition would have only attempted to make an impact if it considers bringing in former president Goodluck Ebele Jonathan as its presidential candidate.
Party leaders from the APC , PDP, Labour Party, and even those from the recently adopted Coalition ADC were in attendance.
In his remarks, the Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party, Dr Abayomi Arabambi, noted that the Alternative Movement is not opposed to coalition politics, but its interest is progressively oriented.
He noted that many politicians who practised coalition politics against the incumbent government do not have a moral ground to stand against it, considering the number of years the country had experienced bad leadership.
“Coalition built with genuine progressive alliances can be powerful vehicles for change. What we reject – what every sane Nigerian must reject – is the repackaging of certified failures as reformers", he said.
