Health50% Foreign-trained Doctors Fail Practice Test. by arabbunkum(op): 1:47pm On Jul 15, 2017
More than half the foreign-trained doctors and dentists failed examinations to secure practice licence of the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria this year.
A total 334 doctors and seven dentists who graduated from medical colleges outside Nigeria sat for the assessment this year.

Only 160 doctors and four dentists passed--a 40% success rate.

At their induction at MDCN headquarters, health minister Isaac Adewole called the pass rate "worrisome."

"Parents, please ask questions before you send your ward to overseas institutions," he warned.

"The fact it [the institution] is foreign does not make it good or excellent. Shine your eyes before you spend your hard-earned dollars sending your child to a school that's not good."

Acting MDCN registrar Tajudeen Sanusi called the council examination "a check of knowledge and skills" to ensure that the standards of medical training Nigerian students get abroad measure up to standards in Nigeria.

Passing the exam determines eligibility of new practitioners to be provisionally registered by the council.

Are you not aware that the present VC is employing his own people even as we speak while telling the gullible world that the former VC over-employed?
fergie001:
Only people who are not aware will hurl invectives on the Present VC,I was a student there,I saw and knew it all how it happened,it is unfortunate but that is true,it was mass over-staffing,and payments then was better than now, where the recession is written everywhere.
Now that the man has over-employed,can he pay them with his own money?let us leave the credentials of the people employed, let us forget about the way they are employed, let us also forget about the means/PRO who brokered their deals, and focus on the fact that will the inordinate employment hamper payments on the legitimate ones there.
The same thing happened at Federal University,Lafia, but that was about 21 staff.
VCs should learn and applicants should also be wise to understand the terms of reference when you are employed.I wish them well in their endeavors and have a glimmer of hope that somehow something should be worked out for them,to cushion the effect of the raging epidemic, called recession.

The management of Michael Okpara University of Agric, Umudike, Abia State, led by Prof Francis Otunta, has finally issued sack letters to 460 staff of the school who were employed by the immediate past Vice-Chancellor, Prof Hillary Odoh Edeoga.
Prof Edeoga left office on February 29, 2016, believing that his successor, Prof Otunta, would regularize those new staff but as it stands now, that hope has been dashed as Prof Otunta only succeded in showing them the way out.
This has created palpable tension and sadness in the university as most staff lost either a friend or a relation to the infamous decision.
The affected staff were asked, through a letter dated June 28, 2017 and signed by the Registrar, to hand in all the school properties in their possession to their respective unit heads. Majority of the affected staff were issued letters to that effect on July 4, 2017.
Recall that the Vice Chancellor, in his acceptance speech after inauguration, vowed 'never to remove food from the mouth of any staff'. Why has he gone against his own words? Your guess is as good as mine.
Attached below is a copy of the letter.
