The governor finally suspended the Oba when the Oba expressed support for the APC candidate in the 1999 elections.


But here's the thing. The Oba of Benin is reverred by the people of Benin and you need his cooperation for peace to reign.

The palace clarified that the Oba did not express support for the candidate and priests of Benin Kingdom laid curses on the governor.

The governor eventually rescinded the suspension and apologised to the Oba.
