So where are those Eze ndigbo in those autonomous communities and Obi of Onitsha derived from?
That’s a recent development, like 100 years ago. Igbos governed themselves by clan and family heads.

They were re-invented? Which means that they existed before the colonialists "reinvented" them. Which means that there were monarchs before the colonialists came to reinvent them?

reinvented? that is, the colonialists knew they could never control the Igbo people, their reforms would never be accepted, so they gave autonomous power to the chiefs, head if the umunna council, lineage heads indirectly by offering them "luxury" items. thus slowly they created the office of Kings, actualizing their goal of controlling/exploiting the people(slaves) and her resources through the "kings". since this office, this change has given the " head of elders" umunna full control of power non could go against them as the others elders were being bought into the system.
the precolonial Igbo administrative system never made use of "kings" that office was non existence,
precolonial Igbo administrative was, let's say, a "stateless society" with no central authority. policies and judiciary functions were performed by the head of the family, then the head of kinship, head of clan, lineages or villages. excces were checked by the umunna " (first male born / fathers)" and the umuadas ( first female born) and the age grades divided into certain age brackets , they also formulate and carry out policies and judiciary functions, while acting as checks and balances. every one both a 5 yr old to the eldest in the community made up the government in the Igbo system.
kingship, obi e.t.c were product of the colonialists.

Wrong!

Many communities in Igboland practiced acephalous democracy (meaning that they had no kings), but some communities practiced monarchy (meaning that they had kings). For example, this was not started by the colonialists:

Nothing like financial misappropriation has been rumoured even by his opponents, yet you just heard he has a mall and that formed the basis for your conviction.
The Igbo elites never wanted him as VP cos of his incorruptible nature and like them,he is a "stingy" man who served them 10k wine when they visited him in government house then as against more expensive wines they are used to.

Igbos had spiritual royalty but not empires and kingdoms. Eze as in the past used means King of a particular section. There was Ezeala(land king) , Ezeigwe(sky king), Ezeji(yam king), Ezenmuo(spiritual king) and many other Ezes but no Ezeobodo(king of a state). Obi evolved from Okparaukwu which refers to the 1st son of the 1st family or Isiobi that occurred when Benin influence was expanding into Igbo territories.

For your information, Oba Ovonramwen was the leader of an independent country called Benin Kingdom/Empire. He fought a war against the British and lost that war which led to him being sent into exile by the victors of that war: British empire.
It is only deluded Nigerians who think that that is the same as a governor in postcolonial Nigeria removing a monarch.

No governor can remove the Oba of Benin, nobody can dethrone the Oba of Benin.

After the demise of Oba Ovonramwen, his son Oba Eweka 2 took over, then his grand son took over then his great grand son took over and now we have his great great grand son.

You see, it is an unbroken royal bloodline which goes back several centuries and perhaps millennia.

What sucks is when you realise you have no point and just continue to repeat yourself like a broken record.
What happened with the Oba of Benin is called war against a foreign power, you lose, you get exiled. It is funny you seem to not add the fact that several thousands or millions of Edo people died in the process of that war and that Benin city was burned to the ground and pillaged by the British. This is without talking about the bravery of Benin soldiers and the dead soldiers fighting on the British side.

i will pardon your buffoonery.

War with who?
Southern Nigeria was already under the control of the British Government in 1914 that he was dethroned. The Oba rebelled against the colonialist And was dethroned and sent into the exile in Calabar.

Having his bloodline on the throne has nothing to do with the fact that the rebel was removed.

Oba Adeyemi was dethroned by the Action Group of Awolowo. Today, his son, Adeyemi iii is the Alaafin of the Oyo town.

Sanusi Lamido’s grandfather was dethroned by Ahmadu Bello, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi the grandson still came on to become the king.

1) actually 1914 is the year of the demise of Oba Ovonramwen
2) the invasion of independent Benin empire by the British was in 1897, that is when the war opposing both kingdoms took place
3) in 1914 it is Oba Ovonramwen's son who took over with the name: Oba Eweka 2.

4) you know nothing about history, stop saying rubbish. Why do ignorant fools like you just go around talking with authority on things they know nothing about and looking down on those who actually have the knowledge ?

5) in case you don't know, let me give it to you: only the first surviving son of the Oba of Benin will become the next Oba of Benin.
That is why Benin Kingdom has a CROWN PRINCE.

There are precedents for all of this.

Legally a governor can suspend or remove the Oba of Benin (it's happened before), but the question is what will happen afterwards?

You see, the fact is that all the kingdoms and societies in what is now Nigeria were conquered by the colonialists and the colonialists handed power to the Nigerian state and this means that the state (represented by the governor) has power over all the monarchs in Nigeria. However, there's something else you need to consider.

People always say that Abacha removed the Sultan of Sokoto, but they don't know the full story of what happened. The reverred Sultan, Sir Siddiqi Abubakar died in 1988 and the people of Sokoto wanted his son to succeed him. General Babangida appointed his friend, Ibrahim Dasuki as sultan instead. There was a huge riot in Sokoto which lasted several days and many people died. So you see, when Abacha removed Dasuki and installed the son of Sir Siddiqi, he was doing what the people of Sokoto wanted.

The late Oba of Benin, Oba Erediawa was suspended by Governor Onyereagbulam. He had annoyed the governor when the governor wanted to make the chairmanship of the council of traditional rulers rotational (the Oba of Benin had always been the chairman). The governor finally suspended the Oba when the Oba expressed support for the APC candidate in the 1999 elections.

But here's the thing. The Oba of Benin is reverred by the people of Benin and you need his cooperation for peace to reign.

The palace clarified that the Oba did not express support for the candidate and priests of Benin Kingdom laid curses on the governor.

The governor eventually rescinded the suspension and apologised to the Oba.

honestly na u dy mess up. i said he was dethroned because the bini empire fought a war with the British and lost, in every setting when a war is been fought the losser king or head is ethier killed or exiled.nor b only bini kingdom don fight war and loss, my point be say no governor go fit remove the monach of bini kingdom because how the kingship take dy, u mentioned the emir of kano which was elected by elders to be emir before the governor gave him staff of office, automatically the governor get right to remove him.it not like dat in benin kingdom, the last time the governor visit the palace na kneel down him dy till d oba say make him get up,

suspended you say not removed from been an oba that what the arguement is all about bro. right from time no oba has declared any support for anybody contesting for political office, that the reason it palace made a statement to clearify things. na even military government dy on ground dat time self wy belive in brute force but at the end of the day the governor still come apologize.

BREAKING!!! Sen. Okorocha Disgraced Aboard Airpeace Passenger Flight

There was a major altercation this morning at Sam Mbakwe cargo airport involving Eze Cletus Ilomuanya, Obi of Obinugwu ancient kingdom in Orlu LGA of Imo State and Senator Rochas Okorocha, Senator representing Imo West senatorial district in the National Assembly, aboard Air Peace flight to Abuja this morning.

IGBERE TV reports that the royal father, a former chairman of Imo State as well as Southeast council of traditional rulers, accosted Senator Rochas Okorocha sitting close to him, exploding with so much rage and royal anger.

What started as a mild altercation all of a sudden snowballed into a full-fledged confrontation inside the aircraft, as the charismatic popular royal father descended on Okorocha with his walking stick. If not the timely intervention of the flight captain who rushed out when Eze Ilomuanya was hitting Okorocha with his royal walking stick to depart from his sight, the story would have been something else. The embattled former Governor was visibily rattled and shaken to his bone marrow. Okorocha was hastily relocated to another seat even as Eze Ilomuanya was heard warning him to stay away from Orlu if he truly wants peace to reign.

It may be recalled that Eze Ilomuanya was removed from office by Okorocha during his reign as Imo State governor and subsequently installed another in his place as traditional ruler. Since then, the bad blood between the duo can only be imagined.
