Who's got a monarch
|
Japan's Emperor Akihito has an unusual problem: He can't quit his job . He's not even allowed to say he wants to quit. But his job itself is not as unusual as you might think. Even in 2016, 43 countries around the world still have a monarch as head of state. REAL RULERS Ten countries have a monarch who run the country, most of them in the Middle East. Saudi Arabia's royal family, for example, has kept a tight grip on power since the kingdom was founded in 1935. A son of the first king is still on the throne. Morocco, Jordan, Oman, Kuwait, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain all have monarchs in power as well. Further afield, the tiny east Asian nation of Brunei has a sultan, while King Mswati III rules Swaziland in Africa. And then there's a monarch you might not think of right off the bat: Pope Francis. RULERS WITH SOME POWER A handful of countries have monarchs who have some power, but do not rule on their own. King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand, who marked 70 years on the throne this year, falls in this category. So does young King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck of Bhutan, a small country in the Himalayas, who's only been on the throne for 9 years. He and his wife Queen Jetsun Pema hit the international spotlight this year, too, when Prince William and his wife Catherine visited them during their tour of Asia. The European principalities of Monaco and Liechtenstein, and the Pacific nation of Tonga also have monarchs with some executive authority. RULERS WITH NO REAL POWER Japan's emperor and most monarchs in Europe are essentially heads of state in name only, trotted out for ceremonial occasions but wielding no real power. The kings of Belgium, Spain, Sweden, Norway, the Netherlands, the queen of Denmark and the Grand Duke - yes, the Grand Duke - of Luxembourg are all figurehead rulers. So are the co-princes of Andorra. King Letsie III of Lesotho, a small nation surrounded by South Africa, is also a symbolic figure, as are King Norodom Sihamoni of Cambodia and Sultan Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah of Malaysia. AND THEN THERE'S QUEEN ELIZABETH II Queen Elizabeth II is in a category of her own. She's Britain's longest-reigning and oldest monarch in history. And she's largely a figurehead. But she's is also the head of state of 15 other nations, or "realms," as the British monarchy calls them. Some are mere dots on the map, like Tuvalu. But they also include massive countries such as Australia and Canada. And then of course, there's the United Kingdom itself, where the national anthem, "God Save the Queen," seems unlikely to change any time soon.

I kw how to cook, nt to brag but am a better than average cook, and I do OK in prayers, Why in the name of God will I marry someone who can't do either? There's nothing wrong in looking for the qualities u want in a woman and vise visa Most ladies think it's cool to look for a rich and handsome guy but it's nt OK when a guy wants a lady dat can cook and pray Don't be offended by his comments, a "smart lady" will take it up as a challenge and learn how to do both after all they are both skills dat can be acquired through practice but the "lazy lady" will take offence Nobody wants to marry a lazy person man or woman we all want the smart one |

(CNN) — The first commercial planes in Africa to use biofuels carried 300 passengers between Johannesburg and Cape Town on July 15. The Boeing jets, operated by South African Airways (SAA), were partly powered by nicotine-free, high-energy "Solaris" tobacco plants cultivated by farmers in Limpopo Province. The flights represent a major step forward for " Project Solaris ," a partnership between biochemists Sunchem SA, fuel specialists SkyNRG, SAA, and Boeing, which launched in 2014 with the aim of delivering "local, sustainable jet fuel production" at large scale. "This is very significant as it proves we can use this biofuel," says Ian Cruickshank, SAA Group Environmental Affairs Specialist. "It shows the industry is really changing. Four or five years ago biofuel was seen as futuristic, and today it's here." New industry Cruikshank says the flights will build confidence among investors, including the South African government, which will allow the scheme to scale up. He believes that producing fuels locally will offer major benefits and savings to the wider economy. "We won't need to buy dollars or oil, so we will not be hostage to oil price variations," he says, adding that scaled up production of the Solaris plants would also create thousands of jobs. SAA is aiming to have 50% of its fleet using the biofuel by 2023, which could reach 500 million liters per year. SkyNRG chief technology officer Maarten van Dijk projects the crop will be offsetting 267 kilotons of CO2 emissions a year by 2020. Solaris fuel could also be versatile enough to go beyond aviation. "We can also deliver biodiesel for cars and bioplastics," says Sunchem CEO Hayo de Feijter. "Fossils fuels can make pretty much anything, and this is the same." Social impact De Feijter adds that the Solaris crop offers new opportunities to farmers that have suffered with the falling demand for tobacco as smoking prevalence decreases in South Africa. "Every hectare we plant creates a full-time job," he says. Project Solaris aims to plant 250,000 hectares by 2025. Solaris plants also have the advantage of being certified by the Roundtable on Sustainable Biomaterials (RSB) , a global body that issues standards for sustainability practice. "Solaris has very strong potential compared to other biofuel feedstocks," says RSB Executive Director Rolf Hogan. "It produces several harvests per year and a large amount of oil per hectare compared to other crops." Hogan adds that the supply chain is ethical and clear of involvement in deforestation, child labor, or risks to food security. "This is a viable feedstock and supply chain that can now be developed in South Africa and neighboring countries," he says. "It also helps to demonstrate that the aviation sector can develop viable alternatives to fossil fuels that support local development and the environment." The Solaris Project aims to expand into neighboring Malawi, Mozambique, and Zimbabwe in the near future. http://edition.cnn.com/2016/07/20/africa/tobacco-jets-south-africa/index.html

What's wrong with being a friend? After all it is an excellent basis for a decent relationship later on or down the line because you never know, things don't always stay the same over time. There is a lady in my life whom I consider very special. We are pretty close, a few times we've kissed on the lips but never sex. It has never bothered me dat she has male frds or dat during our friendship of 3yrs she dated like two guys and I guess it didn't bother her I did to (date girls not guys). Now I've fallen for her in fact I think am in love with her, so I did wat came to me naturally and I asked her out but she doesn't seems to be OK with it. She said it's complicated and if it didn't work we'll end up not being friends blah blah blah Now am not sure how to be friends with her anymore cos I feel If I remain friends with her I'll never move on. My question are should I continue to be friends with her? If yes, How? If No, should I just walk away and say nothing or explain to her why? Or should I just push more to convince her we owe it to each other to try |
DeCypherMe:Dude I've bn with her for three yrs if dats all I wanted I'll just wait till when she I vulnerable, and get dat without gaining a gf |
STFUareyouG0d:She has been so much to me in a long time. Do u hv someone u feel comfortable around and feel free to tell anything to, no judgement, no bullsh*t the person just give it to u straight weather u wanna hear it or not, we'll she is dat person to me and more |
