Nairaland / General / 2015 Armed Forces Remembrance Day:my Tribute To The Fallen Heroes. by Archmed(m): 12:34pm On Jan 15, 2015
2014 ARMED FORCES REMEMBRANCE DAY:my
tribute to the fallen and living heroes. It
was late 1992.Dad rushed home,went
straight to his room, packed a few of his
stuffs and came back to the parlour where
mum and I were sitting. Then he gave mum that look which made her wonder aloud:
''wots wrong?''. He was silent for a few
seconds.Alas! he let the bomb out ''mo n lo
Liberia''..meaning,am going to Liberia.
You see, such is the life of a soldier.Always
prepared to be called to battle,anytime..to keep the peace thousands of miles away
from home.To keep the peace in a war
they never started. To lay down their lives
for the
peace of their nation and if need be,
another nation. Mum rolled on the floor, crying, holding him
back,,never wanting to let go.It was
understandable for Liberia @ dat time was
a burning hell.Few officers and soldiers
lived to tell the story. He knelt, cuddled and
assured her all will be fine.Hmnn..I was too young to understnd so I just watched. Then
came the bugle sound.He hurriedly
grabbed
his rifle, bags and my crying mum and I
saw him off to the parade ground where
over 800 others were waiting, singing, danc ing and full of 'morale'.It was like a party
was going on.I found it difficult to
reconcile my mum's pain with their joyous
mood: SOLDIERS!! We were not to see dad
until 2yrs
later.Within those years,in the barracks, news came of fallen
soldiers.Sometimes,I stood and watched as
mother, children and loved ones cried,
when they had heard that their
breadwinner had passed on in battle. He
didn't die because he was sick,or because he was in a wreck. He died doing what he
felt was right. My dad kept his promise:He
came home alive..not many did, and today
I
still remain entirely grateful to God. You
see, a soldier is a professional. He does not care that he is tired. That his hardened
body is sleep deprived. He is unbroken and
vigilant in his task.Somewhere this warrior
is the final tripwire. He has trained all his
life in brutal conditions day and night. This
barren and desolate world is his home. He lives and survives by an ancient Creed.
Somewhere this weapon of war will not
ask nor give quarter. He thrives on the
mission and completing his objective.He
allows the taste of fear to motivate his
actions. He is…the final option. When politicians die,,they lie in state, when
soldiers die,no one noticed.In my lifetime,I
will not rest until I see dem accorded d
respect they truely deserve.
This is also specially dedicated to the 192
battalion soldiers who've paid d supreme sacrifice.
The candle will burn out long before your
legend ever will !!

Education / Re: 7 Things You May Not Know About University Of Ibadan by Archmed(m): 7:24am On Dec 24, 2014
This is what we want to be seeing on Nairaland's frontpage, very educative, not stories of ''see what wizkid wore to d headies'' ''Tonto Dike is Crying'' ''Maheeda is sleeping''
''Davido just bought a Rolex wristwatch!! Trash!!
And this goes to Mr Seun, pls we need a platform where we would be able to rate d topics that make frontpage and send back 2 d ''backpage'' those that fall below Nairalanders' expectation and also access the mods and supermods' performances.Businessmen, students, politicians entrepreneurs, name them, visit dis site to get valuable information not wot some of ur mods are offering us.My day is incomplete without Nairaland.I literarily fell sick wen dis site went down sometimes back.Pls lets see a CHANGE in 2015..tnks

ICE PRINCE is good..Listen to his lyrics,,with a free and unbiased mind and you'll apreciate this nigga's talent. The only thing i'll accept here and which is also true is dat his rap often follows a specific pattern making d dude sounds boring most times. In rap, versatility is the name of d game.Das why venom spitting rappers like Olamide and Phyno are destined to stand d test of time !!

crisycent: It will be outrageous if Yaya Toure doesn't win. Yaya has been the most consistent african player, his pure strength makes you forget he's not a striker, his free kicks are just mind blowing. Yaya all the way....let's not be sentimental about it.
bros pls text me ur mobile number so wen Mikel wins I can send u a condolence message.

It is said: the Lord will not change d situation of a nation unless d people change it themselves. This is 2014,its time to hold our leaders accountable, time to stone d thieves to death as one of the thieves Gov. Amaechi has suggested. This is not a time to leave Nigeria's problems unto d hands of God.Its time to CRUSH dem with our fists. Its not by power or might,I know, but Fasting and Prayer is just a means to an end,,its not an end in itself.
