InvestmentFG To Sell Nigerian Communications Satellite –BPE by arcis(op): 7:17am On Feb 17, 2015
The Federal Government says it has decided to sell the Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited in order to inject the entrepreneurial spirit into the running of the company, the Director-General of the Bureau of Public Enterprises, Mr. Benjamin Dikki, has said.

Dikki said this when the Director-General of the National Space Research and Development Agency, Prof. Seidu Mohammed, paid him a courtesy visit, according to a statement made available to our correspondent by the Acting Head of Public Communications, BPE, Mr. Alex Okoh.

The BPE boss said it was necessary to inject entrepreneurial spirit into NigComSat in order to make the company commercially viable.

He explained that in privatising NigComSat, the security of the nation would not be compromised.

He added that the BPE would strategise and evaluate how much private sector participation would be required in the company to drive its growth.

Dikki stressed that the BPE would rely on informed guidance from key stakeholders to determine the model of privatisation to be recommended to the National Council on Privatisation for adoption in the privatisation of NigComSat.

He said that in executing the transaction, the Joint Project Delivery Team comprising the BPE, the Ministry of Communication Technology, NASRDA and other key stakeholders would be empanelled for the purpose.

According to him, Information and Communications Technology that encompasses satellite systems and telecommunications is critical to the growth of any nation.

Mohammed said the purpose of the visit was to apprise the BPE of the activities of his agency and to seek more clarification on the planned privatisation of NigComSat.

The NASRDA boss explained that there was a need for communication satellite for all Nigerians as it was vital not only for telecommunications but also for earth characterisation to support the agricultural sector of the country.

He lamented the poor funding of the science and technology sector of the country and called for more investment in the industry to boost the competitiveness of Nigeria.

PoliticsWe’ve Spent N59bn On Federal Roads – LASG by arcis(op): 7:09am On Feb 17, 2015
The Lagos State Government on Monday claimed to have spent over N59bn on the construction and rehabilitation of federal roads within the state in the past few years.

The Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Mr. Obafemi Hamzat, who spoke at a press conference in Lagos, said it became necessary to put the records straight following a claim by the Minister of State for Works, Mr. Dayo Adeyeye, in a recent interview that apart from federal road projects, nothing had been done in the state.

Hamzat said, “A lot of people listened to the commentary and it is ideal to set the records straight. Some of the things that the minister of state said were that if you remove the federal roads from Lagos, including the Funsho Williams Avenue, Ikorodu Road and the Third Mainland Bridge, that there is nothing else in Lagos.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the kilometres of roads in Lagos are 5,500, out of which about 11.4 per cent or 591 to 592 kilometres belong to the Federal Government; 53 per cent to the state government and 35.6 per cent belong to the local governments. If you add 53 and 35.6 together, it is amazing to say the percentage is irrelevant and 11 per cent is more significant,” the commissioner explained

Hamzat said it was wrong for the minister to say that the state government was not working adding, “It is important to say that the federal roads and bridges are being worked on by the Lagos State Government. Officials of the Federal Ministry of Works visited and confirmed that they owed Lagos State N51bn even though what we submitted was N59bn because we have done federal roads.”

According to him, the state government is currently working on Ikorodu Road, which he said no longer belonged to the Federal Government.

He added that expansion work was also ongoing on the Eko Bridge, while plans had been concluded to rehabilitate the Apapa Bridge.

“On Eko Bridge, we are spending close to N500m to fix the expansion joints, which are 34 on both sides; the contract is being carried out by Julius Berger; these are facts that the honourable minister seems not to be aware of and Nigerians know the truth. We are evaluating the Apapa Bridge and work will commence there once we finish the Eko Bridge,” he added.

Buhari met with the Queen of England.
He asked her:
Buhari: How do you run such an efficient
government? Are there any tips u can give to me? I
want to help Nigeria.
“Well,” said the Queen, “the most important thing
is to surround yourself with intelligent people.”
Buhari frowned, and then asked,”But how do i
know the people around me are really intelligent?”
The Queen replied, “Oh, that’s easy, you just ask
them to answer an intelligent riddle.
The Queen pushed a button on her intercom.
“Please send David Cameron in here, would you?”
David Cameron walked into the room and
said,”Yes, your majesty?”
The Queen smiled and said,”Answer this riddle.
David, your mother and father have a child, it is
not your brother and it is not your sister. Who is
it? “Without pausing for a minute David Cameron
answered,”that would be me.” Yes, very good,”said
the Queen.
Buhari went back home to ask his Vice President
to be Osibanjo
Buhari: Answer this. Your mother and your father
have a child, it’s not your brother and it’s not your
sister, who is it?
Osibanjo:.”I’m not sure, let me get back to you.”
He asked all his staff in the Office,Tinubu,f
ashola,amechi,rochas,tambuwal,all Apc members
and his church members but none could give him
an answer. Finally, one day,Osibanjo ran into Hon
Mrs Uche Ekwunife (Iyom)
Osibanjo asked, Iyom,
Osibanjo: Your mother and father have a child and
it’s not your brother or sister, who is it?”
Iyom answered sharply, “That’s easy, its me!”
Osibanjo smiled,and said “Thanks!”
Then he went back to speak with Presidential flag
bearer for ApC Buhari.
Osibanjo: Sir, I have the answer to that riddle, It’s
Hon Dr mrs Uche Ekwunife!
Buhari got angry,he said to Osibanjo. “You must
be a fool, walahi so na so we for take run this
kwountry, kai I am Surrounded by Dummies
walahi.! The answer is David Cameron ! Akwuya”

PoliticsBREAKING: Jonathan Nominates Obanikoro, Six Others As Ministers by arcis(op): 10:00pm On Jan 30, 2015
President Goodluck Jonathan has forwarded the names of seven new ministers to the Senate for confirmation, African Independent Television [AIT] is reporting.
Among the nominees are a former Minister of State for Defence, Musiliu Obanikoro, Kenneth Kobani, a former National Treasurer of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria [ACN], who recently defected to the Peoples Democratic Party, and a former Senator, Patricia Akwashiki.
More to come…
Mr. Obanikoro was one of the biggest casualties of the gubernatorial primaries of the Peoples Democratic Party [PDP], after resigning his ministerial position on October 15 to vie for the party’s ticket in Lagos for the 2015 election.
He lost to Jimi Agbaje, a relatively less known candidate, who had the backing of the party’s most powerful leaders in Lagos.
Alongside Mr. Obanikoro, former ministers Emeka Wogu, Labaran Maku, Onyebuchi Chukwu, and Samuel Ortom, also lost their bids after leaving their posts to contest in their respective states.
Mr. Obanikoro rejected the Lagos results and filed a legal challenge against the declaration of Mr. Agbaje as winner, kicking off a row that has the potential to ruin any chances the party may have in snatching Lagos from All Progressives Congress, APC in 2015.
The logjam was finally been resolved amicably after President Goodluck Jonathan assured Mr. Obanikoro he would reappoint him to cabinet as part of a deal personally brokered by the President to get him to discontinue his legal challenge of the PDP governorship primary result for Lagos State.
Mr. Obanikoro later withdrew his court case, at the same time promising to fully support Mr. Agbaje as the PDP candidate.
