Those two verses up there are simply stating the obvious, some of that generation would obviously die before their whole generation would pass away but it doesn't stop those that are dead from joining up with them that are alive when Christ returns, which was supposed to be before their whole generation passed away. When Jesus spoke metaphorically he used parables, everything else was literal. So why twisting it to suit your narrative cause of the contradiction. My case was similar to yours.
I grew up in a Christian home, believed in Christianity. But then I left home, the things I thought I knew, turns out they were not that simple. I had someone with like Kobojunkie telling me all the reasons to not be a Christian, pointing out contradictions in the bible, telling me that christ never even existed etc and I started believing her. Then Facebook own join too, suggesting atheist pages and groups for me.
What saved me was that I stumbled on the case for christ book, a book that I highly recommend for new Christians and those in doubt. After reading the book and other books explaining why we can trust bible using sound logic, I began to see things differently.
Now I feel much more stable knowing that my faith is grounded in reality.
