Politics / Election Shift: NLC Demand Public Holiday by AreaNews: 10:58am On Feb 18, 2019
Wabba said: “We at the Nigerian Labour Congress join other Nigerians in expressing our shock at the last minute postponement of the presidential and National Assembly elections scheduled to hold on Saturday, February 16, 2019.

“We share in the pains of those who in an uncommon show of patriotism, had to travel long distances to perform their civic duty. We similarly understand the outrage of those who had incurred huge and unquantifiable logistic costs. No explanation will be good enough given INEC’s repeated assurances and the zeal of Nigerians to cast their vote.

“However, given the fact that had the election taken place, a huge number of Nigerians would have been disenfranchised on account of gross and wide-spread logistic deficit, the postponement, as painful as it is, is a lesser evil of the two.

Leah Sharibu not dead – Lai Mohammed

The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, has described as “absolute fake news” the reports that the abducted Dapchi schoolgirl, Leah Sharibu, has died in captivity.

“It’s absolutely fake news. There is nothing like that,” the minister was quoted by his spokesperson as saying at a press briefing in Ilorin, Kwara State, on Sunday.

Miss Sharibu was abducted alongside over 100 other female students from their secondary school in Dapchi, Yobe State in March 2018.

All of the girls who survived the kidnap were freed by the Boko Haram except Miss Sharibu who reportedly refused to denounce her Christian faith.

She has since been in the custody of the terror group despite repeated pledges by President Muhammadu Buhari and the federal government to ensure her freedom.

In the statement by Mr Mohamamed’s spokeperson, Segun Adeyemi, the minister claimed the repoted death of Miss Sharibu’s death, few days to the presidential election, is a ploy by the political opposition to tarnish the image of the administration and exploit primordial sentiments ahead of the polls. The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, has described as “absolute fake news” the reports that the abducted Dapchi schoolgirl, Leah Sharibu, has died in captivity.

“I think it’s part of the opposition’s strategies to throw everything at the administration and at the president. I think everyday they are realising the hopelessness of their position.

“Everyday they are amazed by the support Mr. President is receiving from every part of the country and they have decided that they are going to spread falsehood, inflame passion and make this election a Muslim-Christian affair or North-South affair, but people are not listening to them,” Mr Mohammed said.

The minister did not , however, say if the government had any recent intelligence to confirm Miss Sharibu is alive or where she is being held.

Speaking on the Monday’s presidential campaign rally in Ilorin, Mr Mohammed was quoted as saying the All Progressives Congress (APC) has put everything in place to ensure that the visit of President Buhari is a huge success.

“The party has been meeting in the last couple of days to ensure that the president’s visit is very successful. We have watched the rallies in many parts of the country and we want to assure Mr. President that our rally in terms of numbers, quality of people, entertainment and colour will rank among the best,” the minister said.

He said the crowd that will come out to receive the president will be organic as the party does not engage in renting crowds.

Mr Mohammed appealed to security agencies to create a level playing field for all the contestants in the election to allow the people to freely exercise their franchise. He said those involved in legitimate activities have nothing to fear.

He also described the protest in some circles over the redeployment of police commissioners across the country as the handiwork of the opposition, which, he alleged, is working to discredit the police and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Politics / 2019: 1,000 Pastors Storm Abuja For Buhari’s Reelection by AreaNews: 6:30pm On Feb 07, 2019
2019: 1,000 pastors storm Abuja for Buhari’s reelection

God has chosen President Buhari as the divine candidate that Nigerians must cast their votes for on February 16.

We urge Nigerians to heed the instruction of God and vote for the work of God to be perfect in the country.

According to the various clerics, President Buhari was anointed to lead the country for eight years, and as such, should be given the necessary support for him to fulfill the prophecy, the National Inter-Faith and Religious Organizations for Peace (NIFROP) has said.

The inter-father group, therefore, called on Nigerians not to disrupt the flow of God’s blessing to the land, rather support the reelection bid of President Buhari, so he could continue running the errand God has sent him.

The National President of NIFROP, Bishop Sunday Garuba, gave this charge on Wednesday in Abuja at the grand rally of 1,000 clerics for the re-election of President Muhammadu Buhari According to the cleric, the Buhari-led government has been winning the war against insurgency and should be allowed to continue the task for another four years.

Parts of his address read: Before the National Inter-Faith and Religious Organizations for Peace [NIFROP] announced today’s rally sometimes last week, we had been led by the spirit to hold forty days of fasting and prayer.

In the course of this exercise, undertaken on behalf of the nation, it was revealed to us that President Buhari is God’s anointed to lead Nigeria to greater heights.

The message we got included the one from the Book of Isaiah 32
“Behold, a king will reign in righteousness, and princes will rule in justice.

2 Each will be like a hiding place from the wind, a shelter from the storm, like streams of water in a dry place, like the shade of a great rock in a weary land.

3 Then the eyes of those who see will not be closed, and the ears of those who hear will give attention.

4 The heart of the hasty will understand and know, and the tongue of the stammerers will hasten to speak distinctly.

5 The fool will no more be called noble, nor the scoundrel said to be honourable.

” The Lord revealed to us concerning Nigeria that “(Philippians 1:6) being confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will continue to perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus.”

It is in a similar fashion that we came to the realization that President Buhari, who began many good things in the interest of Nigeria, will continue to improve on the good things he is doing for the country during his second term in office as ordained by God.

We consequently relayed the message to Nigerians not to disrupt the flow of God’s blessing to the land, which requires that the person already anointed to lead the country, in the person of President Buhari, is allowed to continue running the errand God has sent him.

At the end of the forty days of fasting and prayers, we relayed this message to Nigerians so that they will be guided when the time comes to cast their votes.

But we have seen that the devil is hard at work trying to get Nigerians to violate the instruction given unto them as to who to elect. It is for this reason that we have decided to rally for President Buhari.

As you can see, we are more than 1000 clerics across faiths and denominations. We are apolitical and only delivered this message concerning President Buhari for it what our maker has collectively instructed us to do and we cannot do otherwise lest we attract wrath unto ourselves.

The union of 1000 clerics of diverse faiths is something that should prick the interest of Nigerians. But it is not a phenomenon for which we should waste time seeking answers.

The leadership style of President Buhari as the defender of all faiths, ordained to save our religions, is the source of the newfound cohesion that has toned down the tendency for religion to be the source of strife among communities.

The naysayers may argue it but Nigeria is on the way to recording fewer and fewer instances of sectarian strife until the larger population of Nigeria will enjoy the kind of cordial relations we have at NIFROP.

Fortunately, this godly touch is manifesting in other facets of our national life.

The corruption that used to be the trademark of Nigeria is now being recognized as an abomination to our creator, something that has been made possible by President Buhari.

We are aware that there are those now seeking to return Nigeria to Egypt, back to the days when corruption and theft of public fund was the order of the day.

But we are glad that God has identified for us a leader who is mindful of what is written in Deuteronomy (17:16-17) that “The king, moreover, must not acquire great numbers of horses for himself or make the people return to Egypt to get more of them, for the Lord has told you, “You are not to go back that way again.”

17 He must not take many wives, or his heart will be led astray. He must not accumulate large amounts of silver and gold.” – (NIV).

In line with the injunctions of our various faiths that require of us to cater for the vulnerable, President Buhari has shown that it is possible to the poor and the needy that they do not have to live in abject poverty through his social security programmes.

Nigerians have seen the possibilities that come with N-Power, School Feeding Programme, Trader Moni, Conditional Cash Transfer and other interventions that are in keeping with the divine instruction not to neglect the needy.

President Buhari, as the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, is striking at the heart of the agents of darkness with the way he has been dealing with Boko Haram terrorists and other criminals that have been trying to make Nigeria the headquarters of darkness.

This is a task that must be continued and seen to a conclusion and only the man ordained by God will be able to continue this sacred task.

We stand on the revelation given to us by God to declare that as He Decreed, So Shall It Be. We on this note appeal to the electorates to ward off evil from Nigeria by aligning with God’s will by voting President Buhari to continue with the work that has been entrusted to him.

We are aware that the opposition has been making false claims to present themselves as the ones destined to take Nigeria to a greater height and that they can liberate Nigerians but we know this for what it is. Lies of the devil.

They are known to the Bible as it is stated in 2 Peter 2:19 that “They promise (Nigerians) them freedom, but they themselves are slaves of corruption. For whatever overcomes a person, to that, he is enslaved.”

Nigerians must, therefore, take heed lest they fall the lying tongue that is intent on misleading them to reject God’s choice for them.

The National Inter-Faith and Religious Organizations for Peace [NIFROP] is delivering the message that came from its forty days of fasting and prayer afresh.

God has chosen President Buhari as the divine candidate that Nigerians must cast their votes for on February 16.

We urge Nigerians to heed the instruction of God and vote for the work of God to be perfect in the country.

Politics / Death Threats: El-rufai Spoke In National Interest- Buhari by AreaNews: 7:09am On Feb 07, 2019
Death threats: El-Rufai spoke in national interest- Buhari

KADUNA State Governor Mallam Nasir El-Rufai has stirred the hornet’s nest, with his warning that foreigners should not interfere in the conduct of the general elections.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) yesterday threatened to pull out of the peace accord it signed with other parties before the National Peace Committee (NPC) chaired by former Head of State Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar.

The opposition party hinged its decision on the “death threats” issued by the governor, according to it, to officials of the United States (U.S.), United Kingdom (U.K.) and the European Union (E.U.).

But the Presidency dismissed it all as a storm in a tea cup. “There is nothing more to sneeze at”, it said.

Besides, the governor denied calling for violence.

Also yesterday, the EU Election Observer Mission (EOM) said its men were in Nigeria on the invitation of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and that they will remain in the country to monitor the elections billed for February 16 (presidential/National) and March 2 (governorship/state Assembly).

Speaking on an NTA live programme El-Rufai was reported to have threatened the foreign nationals who might interfere with Nigeria’s upcoming elections with violent attacks.

“Those that are calling for anyone to come and intervene in Nigeria, we are waiting for the person that would come and intervene, they would go back in body bags,” he was quoted as saying.

The governor, however, explained himself yesterday, insisting that his comments were not in any way calls for violence, but a defence of Nigeria’s sovereignty.

El-Rufai said he merely stood up for Nigeria’s dignity as against those who would traduce their country and reduce it to a colony in their vain quest for power.

In a statement last night, the Presidency said: “The Federal Government under President Muhammadu Buhari would cooperate with election observers and would not let the international community down in the conduct of the coming elections.

“The Presidency assures Nigerians and the international community that the President would do everything within his power to ensure free, fair and credible elections in the country.

“We have taken note of the clarification to a reported earlier statement by the Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufa’i concerning opposition call for foreign interference in our domestic affairs and to say that latest statement by him should rest the issue for good. There is nothing more to sneeze at. The Governor spoke strongly in defense of of national interest. It is clear that El-Rufa’i, our party the APC and all its candidates have reposed their faith in democracy through general elections. They are all of the view that there is no place for violence against local people or foreign citizens in our midst.

“Opposition PDP ought to own up to the mistakes of their own policies for 16 years which have led the country to a sorry pass that has cost lives, jobs and growth instead of dwelling on diversionary issues.”

The PDP’s threat was issued at a news conference in Abuja. Its spokesman Kola Ologbondiyan described El-Rufai’s comments as inimical to peaceful, free and fair elections.

He said: “The PDP is left with no option than to consider a review of its signatory in the National Peace Accord, if no action is immediately taken to curb this trend.”

But a pro-Buhari group, the Buhari Media Organisation (BMO), said neither the PDP nor its presidential candidate, was genuinely committed to any peace deal.

According to the BMO, PDP’s presidential candidate signed the peace accord reluctantly.

The main opposition party called on the international community to immediately impose a travel ban on El-Rufai for what it described as the inciting comments against peaceful elections.

Ologbodiyan also called on the Gen. Abdulsalami to summon El-Rufai on the threat.

He said: “The PDP holds that any situation that seeks to allow the APC to abuse the tenets of the accord will definitely force our party to review our signatory to the peace process.

“We therefore call on the NPC to immediately summon El-Rufai on his inflammatory remarks against peaceful election in our country.

“In that regard, we might have no option left than to allow our members to defend their votes with whatever that is available to them.

“This country belongs to all of us and no individual or group, no matter how highly placed, can subjugate other citizens, or seek to appropriate any sort of absolutism to himself.”

The PDP also kicked against what it described as an alleged plot by the police authority to redeploy Kayode Egbetokun as Commissioner of Police to the Kwara State Command.

The opposition party alleged closeness of Egbetokun to a section of the leadership of the governing All Progressives Congress (APC).

This, according to the PDP, might lead to Egbetokun taking sides in the ongoing supremacy tussle between the PDP and the APC chapters in Kwara State.

Ologbondiyan said: “This is in line with plans by the Buhari Presidency and the APC to effect a mass deployment of top security officers, particularly the police, to intimidate, harass and manhandle Nigerians that will not support the self-succession bid of President Muhammadu Buhari as well as aiding APC thugs to snatch ballot boxes and orchestrate violence in the elections.

“Nigerians are aware of how CP Kayode Egbetokun was posted to Lagos State by the former Inspector-General of Police, Idris Ibrahim, to serve the same partisan interest and how that posting was stopped by the new IGP Adamu Mohammed. Now, he is being redeployed to Kwara State for the same ignoble plot.

“It is necessary to state that the PDP is a party of peace and we are committed to the peace accord. However, the deployment of Kayode Egbetokun as Kwara CP directly negates the principle of the Peace Accord and can only hurt the fragile peace that currently exists in Kwara state.

“We wish to remind the acting Inspector General, Adamu Mohammed, that his acceptability among Nigerians across party line was based on the pedigree, which was presented to Nigerians before his appointment.

“These pedigree and exposure place on his shoulders, the responsibility to be just, firm, equitable and professional in the discharge of his duties. We therefore urge him not to allow his reputation to be mired in controversial political activities.”

The party called on the National Peace Committee to note the alleged infractions by the APC and its leaders to the peace accord.
