Foreign investors in action, they don't want to be taking unaware, politician that needed money for both primary and general election are also pulling out to avoid lack of cash due to portfolio reduction, election Bear in action.

This is how MMM took their people unaware, many was planning to leave them by December while they close down by November.
Likewise in stock they know that very soon many will sell to hold on for election, so Foreign investors and politician decided to started early.

LOCODEMY and IHEDIORAMMA are ready and willing to welcome members who wishes to sell and face their business till after election.
I knew this would happen and so bad many were caught unawares. Asian tigers are still pulling out their capital and profits and this they will do till the last cent is pulled out. mind you, the strategy my change next week to cause artificial bulls so that some can still hit their heads then after, they resume back and pull more out so let the bear continue while it last

Yes its much more humane to strive towards bettering our networth without being unduly pessimistic.
...it would at least show that one is patriotic with a human face and empathy.
However, its normal that in the stock mkt most folks who are out on the sideline with their funds will like to talk down on 'things' to infest fear on those in, so they can key in.
Those not in (the pessimist camp) would deploy several pranks and 'pray' that the mkt drops, so they'll get in at a cheap, while those in (the optimist camp) will tour the path of believing in the opposite.
It's a normal trend that can be seeing in the market globally.
So if as a mkt player, u can not live with this 'normal' trend, then the stock mkt is definitely not for u. ...put differently, the stock mkt globally knows not what it means to have a human face !!
Remember that the pessimist camp are also a part of the mkt circle. ...so u cant exclude them.

That is how stock market works, everyone wants to maximize gain. Human whatever does not apply in stock market game and that is why before one jumps into it, u must understand the nitty gritty of how it works. Immediately I qualified for dividends on all my stocks, i pulled out because 2008 memory of massive loss is still fresh in my memory and am also certain that asian tigers will pull their capital/and profits out of the market as they have made enough and this they will be doing gradually so that those that does not know out it works will be hitting their heads into it. Let the bear continue f

The solution?
It calls for some disciplinary measures and emotional management.
That's why I always advise folks to have a WORKABLE STRATEGY that's just good enough to suit ur investment style, goals/target and ur personality.
...and once u have it, just do well to stick religiously to it.
For though u won't be perfect (no one is), but u will to a very large extent know when and how to manage FEAR (with a mkt downturn) and GREED (with a mkt up rise). ...because then, u always have a clear path/guideline to follow.
That way, u wouldn't be bothered about any 'noise' from the pessimist camp !!
That's the simple solution.

There are some select clear opportunities right now in the mkt.

Regards.

Your inference is wrong sir. If exchange rate drops from 360 to 190, they have made a killing (on commodities already within the country) without putting in any effort.

Remember what happened last, investors were selling stocks and leaving the country when exchange rate was pegged at N155 only to return back when it could at N400!
Very correct

Otedola is banking on his personal relationship with Dangote to tap into his refinery. I do not know if he will want to use FO or resurrect Zenon Oil or incorporate a new company to do this. It will be interesting to see what value the disposal of the business units will bring to the company. I will be surprised if it won't be a loss.
for upstream, the company does not have any drilling field, it just servicing company. they rendered services to drilling company but at least profitable cos all their transactions are in dollars and I think the value of that business will be around 5-6 billion. for geregu power is also profitable but the reasons of selling I don't know. Ghana entity to the best of my understanding, is making loss cos of currency devaluation. currently, Ghana money has value than NGN I think about 80 naira to 1 cede so Ghana entity sales out is understandable. but we are watching let's see how it will be

A lot is contributing to the bear taking hold of NSE and either we believe it or not, bear will keep taking hold for the next few months. infact, q2 may not do the magic much. Now the institutional investors will be selling their holdings gradually in order not to let the prices fall more than necessary so uninformed investors will still be buying thinking miracles will happen. institutional in term of the foreign investors and this they will continue to do till we enter the election period. So all that will be experienced is ups and down till they finally pull out their both capital and profit. Meanwhile, local investors that are naive would keep waiting endlessly for bulls. in my own opinion

#42 is not far for GTB to visit, it will happen soon. UBA will visit sub #10.90 this week, FCMB their MM are losing strength, and might visit #2.30 this week, may be their MM needed money to defend Fidelity.

Why UCAP don't want to visit sub #3, Afriprudent sub #4. Patience is the answer, many are waiting at various junction for the vehicle to arrive.
For now no news to usher in Mr bull, Bear will still dominate the market this week.

In the past few weeks, there had been a few calls on the coy UBA from some members here. (my humble self inclusive)
...and so I decided to do a comprehensive analysis on why the stock is a BUY.
This, with respect to its YE 2017 and Q1 2018 results.

A few breakdown;

▪ Strong earnings drive: The bank raked up a 43% and a near 50% in top and bottom line respectively as the drive for earnings and profit diversification particularly from its African subsidiaries begins to yield the much needed fruit.
▪ Stong and robust cost management efficiency: The bank seems to be ahead of the curve with the recent implementation of IFRS 9 by the CBN given that even after a near 12.9% increase in OPEX which had a strain on profit margin, a drop in loan loss charge by over 53% after a loan book clean up, and the compelling of the bank by the CBN to restate their opening equity balance downwards following the adoption of IFRS 9 from Jan 1st 2018, they still managed a solid near 20% position in net profit margin. (...well above the 15% internationally accepted standard).
▪ Gross earnings rose by an approx 18% QoQ 2017/2018, while after tax growth witnessed a near 6.3% improvement.
▪ The bank has consistently maintained a well above average growth in shareholders fund within the last 3 yrs, with an inequality pattern of Y>29.5%<35%. ...where Y is the yield on shareholders fund. In line with this, the fund grew from 448 billion to approx 529.5 billion YoY in 2017.
▪ Along this path, the bank has also seen a 3 yr consecutive growth in EPS from N1.45 to N2.30. ...book value also growing by whooping approx 92% from N8.05 to N15.48.
▪ As at Q1, the bank is trading at a 0.69k EPS, a slightly above 4.03 price earning and an above average ROAE.
▪ Within the last 3 quarters, the bank has seen a far more greater interest in net inflow of funds with practically zero outflow. ...a few core investors have actually been increasing their stake in the coy.
Looking at the current shareholding structure, the Bank of America merril lynch, STH Ltd and the Bank of New York Mellon, are currently 3 of the biggest FPIs. With the latter 3rd and another core investor, Consolidated trust funds Ltd increasing their stake to 4.4% and 4.7% in that order. The biggest stakeholders are currently with Stanbic IBTC nominees Nig Ltd and the UBA staff inv trust which holds an 11% and 7.6% stake respectively. There are presently a total of 10 core investors and FPIs with different stakes in the bank.

With a current price earnings ratio of 4.03x, a price to book ratio of 0.71x and book value of approx N15.80, UBA is presently trailing a near 35% margin of safety. (...precisely 34.4% MoS from its intrinsic value).
...this gives a Fair Price of N18.10 based on Q1. ...and which presents a juicy 59% discount from Friday's close of N11.35.
UBA is therefore a BUY from my end.

NOTE: This analysis is purely result driven and not any sort of outright recommendation. ...DD still advised as always pls.
My Verdict: Follow ur instinct.

Regards.
nice analysis but there are also other thing u need to consider and that is the share outstanding which is around 36bln this can weigh down the price gtb 29plus, fbn 35plus, zenith 31plus access 28plus ibtc 10plus I mean their share outstanding and this also reflect in their prices. As the prices of those with larger share outstanding appreciates, trader dumps for profit. so in your analysis, always consider the share outstanding too. my 2kobo

phemmie06:
Sir the upstream sector is not the same with the downstream sector as at last week when I checked it due to some boss post here, they are two different entities which Bloomberg proved unless they were wrong as well. But I will be pleased if there is a link to that.
The downstream market in the region is largely underdeveloped and, is controlled by the governments; hence, this market is heavily dependent on government spending. The governments in the region have failed to maintain and utilize these facilities. Hence, though this region accounts for about 28% of the total oil production in Africa, many countries in West Africa depend heavily on import to fulfill their requirements for downstream industry end products. As a result, many countries in the region are inviting private investment in the sector.

Cheaper Feedstock and Private Investments - Drives the Market
Since the fall in oil prices in mid-2014, the feedstock buying power of the downstream companies has increased. The cheaper feedstock has substantially increased the profit margins for downstream companies. The larger profit margins, combined with the policy to encourage private investment, are expected to drive the downstream market in the region. The major restraint of the downstream industry in West Africa is underutilization of the refining capacity, caused by the combination of factors, like failure to maintain the refineries and inconsistent feedstock supply.

The heavy government subsidies have had an adverse effect on the downstream sector, as these subsidies reduce the profit margins and can even result in losses. An example of the effect of government subsidies is the refining industry in Nigeria. In January 2016, the government of Nigeria removed gasoline subsidies; this helped Nigeria’s refineries achieve their first profit since February 2015. Low-profit margins have resulted in failure to maintain the refineries.

Nigeria is expected to be Fastest Growing Market
Nigeria has a nameplate capacity of 445,000 bpd, the largest in West Africa and the fourth largest in Africa. However, the refining facilities are very old, and they suffer from lack of maintenance and inconsistent feedstock. As a result, 80% of the country’s downstream product requirement is fulfilled by the imports. The government of Nigeria plans to process all the domestic refined product consumption locally by 2019. In order to improve the downstream industry production and reduce the dependence on import, Nigeria's Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) and state-owned Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) have opened their door to private, international, and local investors.

This has resulted in the Dangote Group building the largest oil refinery with the nameplate capacity of 650,000 bpd of oil, which is not only expected to meet Nigeria’s consumption but also allow the country to become an exporter of the refined product. The Dangote oil refinery is expected to start the production by 2019. Apart from that, in May 2017, Emmanuel Ibe Kachikwu, Ministry of State, Petroleum Resources, Nigeria, announced that the Nigerian government has reached an agreement with Agip to build a new refinery of 150,000 bpd capacity. Owing to increased investments to build new infrastructure, Nigeria is expected to be the fastest growing market for the downstream industry in the region

I have just been saved by asking. I was looking at long term investment that was why I asked
when I started as an amateur investor, I made a lot of mistakes and lost a lot of money but now I will do my own due deligence about any stock I have interest before I commit my hard earned money and since then, I have been winning. Do your findings and research yourself before you venture into any stock. All the stock I bought in 2017 made me bountiful harvests unlike when I was investing blindly even I don't allow my broker to dictate for me , when I saw that the owner of dangote flour sold it then, I sharpra sold mine too and jaaaa as one of the gurus here will say and wen he bought back I came back also and made good money in it. unlike when I just buy and be watching. Ucap another example bot at 2.80, collect .35kobo dividend and sold at 3.75 and jaaaa. though u may not always win but don't totally rely on what people say do your own findings. thank God for technology, you can Google anything even price history of some stocks up to 15- 20yrs period and that can be a guide. I know much about Oil & gas sector and for now am skeptical about investing in oil stock and as such no one can predict to me, I invest when am done with my findings. my 2kobo
