While we all agree that Fashola did extraordinarily, it cant be said that he got everything right. Yes there will be room for errors and some mistakes. Take the boath hotel thingy which was shoved off as "bad business" in the end.

The Falomo mall was a deal between LASG and Afriland. It was a way to encourage Afriland to invest in the contract hence giving then cheap land. Sometimes these lands are given free to companies willing to invest. If the government that thinks that they were short changed they have a right to cancel but you should also know that the contract cannot be really cancelled.

The most that can happen is to renegotiate the deal which will see Afriland pay some more money to the LASG and work goes on. Of course this cannot be done privately, not in this era where you have a secret meeting and the world knows what was discusses before you even leave the venue.

This is not a way to rubbish anyone but a way to make sure the state optimizes potentials and finances.
Figuring out political rubbishing and political backstabbing is not rocket science.

When really concerned about issues, the people you govern and your state in particular when it comes to such issues like things done wrong by the person before you, fairness demand that you state clearly what was done, release all the facts to the people you govern to see clearly exactly what was done in their name. You don't release half truths and jaundiced info just to rubbish instead of addressing genuine issues...

The N50 million Ambode is talking about happens to a deposit and proof of intent to invest and take on the project by the investor and the contract has other stipulations beneficial to the people of Lagos even apart from the fact that at the end of the contract, the magnificent mall or property goes to the people of Lagos.

Just like the website issue, they released half truths and not the entire content of the contract for Lagosians to see exactly what was negotiated and stipulated. It was done just to rubbish and never to address any critical issue affecting Lagosians.

Fashola as the governor of Lagos state commissioned multiple projects every week and he left hundreds in different stages of completion, but Ambode is yet to commission or touch anything the man before in left behind, he's too busy playing politics and aimlessly preoccupied with irrelevant issues...

Fashola's achievements is written in gold and on the ground everywhere in Lagos state for the people of Lagos to see everyday and Ambide and his vision less and aimless gang can not wipe or take this away from him.

Talking down investors, canceling negotiated investment contracts is very detrimental, it scares away investors, it creates hostile investment atmosphere which is not good for him and the people of Lagos.

He needs to start governing instead of running mickey mouse errands..

If Governor Nasir El Rufai of Kaduna State (a first timer) could get started immediately, what is holding up Governors Akin Ambode
This is a very misguided and pointless article obviously written by another disgruntled village biafran and wailing wailer.

What PMB inherited across the board can not be paved over without rooting out the dirt and laying a new and safe foundation for the future and this can not be done overnight or just by waving some magic wand.

And if I might add, PMB is not doing anything on his own, there are folks working behind the scene scrutinizing and making recommendations or suggesting actions to be taken.

What's wrong with Nigerians anyway? You just suffered through 16 years of calamity and disaster and you are crying and complaining after just 3 months into PMB's admin. We are seeing improvements everywhere and people are doing their job effectively for a change.

People just need to keep quiet and let the man do his job.

Per the highlighted, this is an exception regarding the article.

Fashola commissioned multiple projects every week and he left hundreds of of going projects in different stages of completion, but Ambode is yet to touch or commission anything, he jumping from one irrelevant issues to the next, playing politics and openly rubbishing his predecessor. He appears shallow, empty, aimless and vision less.

What a disappointment ...

I don't even see the sense and wisdom in openly reversing your predecessor's policies, contracts and rubbishing his image and integrity especially since every negativity you dig up and throw at him soils you yourself and the same political party you share..

Lagosians love BRF and they know quiet well that he delivered and I see them questioning Ambode's moves very very soon.

This is very very Unlagosian...
Politics › Re: Ambode Pays N2.2bn Bond To 658 Retirees by aresa: 12:07am On Aug 21, 2015

Wow that's really good. Thank God for the retirees, I think the man is a man of the people and not elitist like Fashola
Fashola Pays Retirees N1.7b

Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola today presented retirement bond certificates worth N1.7 billion to 350 civil servants who retired from the civil service recently.

The money was disbursed into the Retirement Savings Accounts of the 350 retirees while the governor officially presented their bond certificates to them today at the event held at the NECA Building, Alausa in Ikeja, Lagos, Southwest Nigeria.

Presenting the certificates to the beneficiaries, Fashola said the main objective of the scheme was to ensure that retirement benefits were paid as and when due in order to ensure comfort of retirees in retirement.

He stated that since the commencement of the Contributory Pension Scheme, the government had chosen to pioneer the implementation of a pension policy that would secure the future of public servants.

“While there will always be room for improvement of the process, I am proud to assert that issues of malpractice are fading into a distant memory in our state’s pension administration. We have demonstrated the greatest commitment to the success of the scheme,” said Fashola, whose speech was read by the Deputy Governor, Mrs. Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire.

The governor disclosed that as at January 2012, the total employee and state’s contribution credited into the Retirement Savings Account of all employees under the Contributory Pension Scheme since inception of the scheme stood at N29.38 billion.

“Also, redemption of Retirement Bond Certificates which commenced in the state in October 2010 with the payment of N412.8 million to the first batch of 103 retirees grew to N5.8 billion when the fourth batch of 471 retirees were paid in October 2011.

“Today, with the payment of N1.7 billion being made, the total retirement bond certificates redeemed so far has risen to N7.5 billion to a total of 1,471 retirees. This is a clear demonstration of the unwavering commitment of the Lagos State Government to the well-being of those that have so diligently served the state,” he added
.

Fashola said section 4 of the Pension Reform Law provides two alternative exit options for retirees, which he said were Programmed Withdrawal by the Pension Fund Administrations, PFAs and Annuity for Life by Insurance Companies.

“It has, however, come to light that the majority of those who have retired so far under the scheme have embraced the programmed withdrawal while just a few opted for the annuity for life,” he stated.

He stated that as part of efforts to create awareness on the authorised withdrawal option, the government, through the Lagos State Pension Commission, LASPEC organised pre-retirement seminar for all those that would retire between January and June 2012.

Speaking, the Director-General, LASPEC, Mr. Rotimi Hussain, said the commission had continued to work assiduously to ensure that the state’s retirees enjoyed a life of financial independence, saying that seminar had been organised for intending retirees.

According to him, the idea behind the seminar arose from the observation that despite the level of enlightenment and awareness programmes by the commission, some workers were still not conversant with the operation of the Contributory Pension Scheme.

“The main objective therefore, was to help workers come to terms with life in retirement and help them prepare for their physical, emotional and financial well-being in retirement,” he stated.

He urged the retirees to invest their money in lucrative ventures and avoid spending on frivolities, bearing in mind the economic situation of the country.
