Members of President Buhari’s delegation to the United nations General Assembly have accused Prof.Joy Ogwu, Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the UN, of sabotaging President Muhammadu Buhari’s participation, citing glaring missteps that have embarrassed the delegation and undermined Nigeria’s/ The accusation follows curious circumstances in which Nigeria missed two key events, putting its leadership on the spot. The first was a Boko Haram response event chaired by a UN Under-Secretary Mike O’Brien, which Buhari missed completely. The Nigeria leader, who will speak in the general debate this evening, also missed a meeting with the Catholic Pontiff, Pope Francis, because of his late arrival to the meeting, the bizarre circumstances of which are only just being understood. Sources within the delegation told SaharaReporters that the delegation also missed at least two other events and has had a difficult time securing full participation in the very important 70th Assembly. In the case of the Boko Haram event, the sources told our reporter that it was never put on President Buhari’s calendar by the Nigerian mission. Regarding the event with the Pope, Buhari missed it because when he came down from his hotel suite, there was no car to take him to the meeting. When he decided to walk to the event with his entourage, he was taken by Nigerian mission officials to the wrong gate, where they were denied entry by security agents. Buhari then walked back to his hotel where, when he got on the elevator, the mission finally brought a car to take him to see the Pope. Sources say when he made that second trip in the Mission’s car, he was again driven to yet another wrong gate and the delegation was turned back. Also, yesterday an attempt by the delegation to attend a side meeting where Nigeria was to have declared its support for the “Commitment to Gender Equality” initiative almost failed as the mission failed to provide any secondary party to facilitate the Nigerian delegation’s participation. It took the intervention of the Chinese mission to help former member of house of reps Abike Dabiri and other delegates to get into the event. And then today, members of the Nigerian delegation led by the governor of Niger state again denied access to another important event, “EveryWoman, EveryChild,” because of poor organization. As Buhari prepares to speak today at the UN, the delegation also hit a major hitch as the Mission did not process tickets for all members of the delegation to get into the event. Only President Buhari and a few members of his protocol team were accredited to get in the venue. Our source said it was when Buhari finally got upset about it that Prof. Ogwu when out and processed acoustic tickets to enable a larger number of delegates to attend the event. Apart from the fiasco with accreditation and general conference management, the members of the delegation are also not provided food in their hotel rooms as is the tradition. Instead, they are made to eat at a buffet at the Mission. According to his aides, President Buhari refused to go to the buffet. The Nigerian delegation is staying at the ONE UN New York, (the former Millennium UN Plaza Hotel), across the road from the UN, and on the same block with the Nigerian Mission. Prof. Ogwu’s tenure expires in December 2015. Several UN observers blames President Buhari for the mess, he berates the president delays in appointing ministers saying it is a major reason his UN trip failed miserably. A retired Nigerian diplomat told Saharareporters that President Buhari must have seen the folly in relying on unsupervised civil servants to run the affairs of state since he came to power. The mosque is the biggest in Europe, with ten fire engines and two ambulances attending the scene. The Chief Justice of Kebbi State, Abdulkadir Jega, was among the 717 people who died in Thursday’s stampede at Jamrat in Saudi Arabia. Confirming the death to our correspondent in Mina, Saudi Arabia, Kebbi State deputy governor, Samaila Yombe, said the CJ was caught up in the tragedy while on his way to perform the ritual of stoning. “Yes, the CJ of Kebbi State, Justice Abdulkadir Jega, has died as a result of the incident that occurred while on our way from Muzdalifa to Jamra to perform the first ritual of stoning the Jamratul Akbar (the big Jamra),” he said. Although details of whether the CJ died on the spot is not known, the deputy governor stated that the Amirul Hajj and Emir of Argungu, Samaila Mera, Speaker of the State House of Assembly and his deputy, Governor Atiku Bagudu’s family were among pilgrims who survived the incident. The deputy governor, however, insisted that the incident at Jamra was not a stampede, adding, “whoever said it was a stampede either does not know the meaning of a stampede or he is not saying the truth.” “What actually happened was that the entire pilgrims scheduled to throw Jamrat at that time, were channeled to follow one particular street. “At a time, we got to a certain point at 8:00am, where military vehicle was set across to create a barrier. And then some of the Saudi soldiers were standing by, suggesting that, you cannot pass beyond that point. “About 5,000 people coming from same direction were not aware of the road in front, which resulted to a ‘sardining’ so to speak, which made it very difficult for us to even stand. So, we continued to squat to make room for fresh air while the temperature was about 47 degrees Celsius. “Pilgrims, in an effort to get fresh air, attempted to scale fences of tents on both sides of the road. Very few succeeded, while most people just succumbed to the situation. “It was at this juncture that we started seeing dead bodies piled up around us,” he said. Mr. Yombe added that apart from the CJ who was confirmed dead from bodies deposited at the mortuary, the whereabouts of two pilgrims was still not established. He said the missing pilgrims were likely among those who missed their way, and may later be found. You're a couple in love. Naturally, you're going to fight once in awhile. However, being frustrated or angry with your partner doesn't have to be destructive, as long as you know how to approach the argument. For the purposes of this article, we're going to talk about romantic relationships. What's appropriate for your boyfriend may not be the best solution for dealing with your boss or your crappy roommate. Romantic relationships have their own unique challenges and its best to deal with problems when they start. Get to know these facts; 1. Recognize There Are Two Problems: Your Emotions and The Situation. When you first get upset or angry with your significant other, there are almost always two problems: your emotions and the actual problem. For example, let say you're frustrated with your partner for not doing the dishes. You now have two problems to solve: the dishes need to be done and you need to no longer be upset with your partner for not doing them. 2. Deal With Your Emotions First: When it comes to anger management, everyone has their own way to chill out. If you find yourself on the verge of a fight with your loved one, take a moment to deal with your stress, and allow them to do the same. Do whatever brings your energy down. Go for a walk. Listen to loud music. Write an angry note and then destroy it. 3. Deal With the Situation When You Come Back: Once you've calmed down, you can start approaching your problem rationally. Make sure you take a collaborative approach. If you engage a problem as you vs. your partner, you create barriers that only make a happy relationship harder. 4. Make Up: You've gotten angry. You've calmed down. You've talked it out. You've come up with a plan for what needs to change. Everything's good, right? Well, probably. If you stop there and do nothing else, you'll still be doing better than the average yelling match. However, if you want to be sure that this becomes a habit, reward yourselves. Cuddling, watching a movie, or having good old-fashioned makeup sex are all positive ways to end an argument on a happy note Note: "Don't go to bed angry" Instead of settling for just not being angry, do what you can to go to bed happy, content, and looking forward to a better relationship than you had yesterday. The matriarch of the Awolowo family, Chief (Mrs.) Hannah Dideolu Awolowo, fondly called HID, has passed on, aged 99. Awolowo, wife of the late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, died, yesterday, at 3:15 pm, two months to her centenary birthday. She was said to have passed on after she held a meeting with her family members on the plan for her 100 years birthday. Announcing the demise, her eldest child, Omotola Oyediran, in a statement she signed on behalf of the family, said “mama died while praying for her children over her planned centenary birthday”. The statement read: “Mama died as glorious as she lived. She spent the day in the company of her children, grand children, great grand children and close family. She shared a precious few minutes with them when she went in to pray for them as they met to plan her centenary birthday. “They sang her a befitting song as she came in and she continued to pray for them. She died a couple of hours later as she had always wished to be surrounded by her children, grand children and great grand children.” The first callers to the Ikenne, Ogun State family house of the Awolowos include Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Taiwo Adeoluwa; the deputy governor, Yetunde Onanuga; a former governor of the state, Otunba Gbenga Daniel and Governor Ibikunle Amosun’s wife, Olufunsho. HID, once described by his late husband as his Jewel of Inestimable Value, was born on November 25, 1915 in Ikenne. A successful businesswoman and astute politician, she was the First Lady of the old Western Region when Awolowo was Premier in the First Republic. During the crisis in that political dispensation, she stood in for her husband in the alliance between the NCNC and the AG, called the United Progressive Grand Alliance (UPGA), while he was tried and jailed. HID toured the country with her husband in the Second Republic when Awolowo sought to be President on the platform of Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN). She also coordinated the women’s wing of the UPN. A businesswoman, she became the first Nigerian distributor for the Nigerian Tobacco Company (NTC) in 1957. She was the first to import lace materials and other textiles into Nigeria. She is blessed with five children, 20 grand children and 32 great grand children. She was the Yeye Oodua of Yorubaland, bestowed on her by the late Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuwade, and a recipient of the national award of the Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON). HID was very close to her late husband who she on an occasion described as a loving, caring and affectionate partner, noting that he would continue to be remembered for his uprightness. Two female armed robbers who specialise in looting shops, boutiques, supermarkets and restaurants have been nabbed. The notorious gang which has been terrorising pedestrians and residents of Uyo, the Akwa Ibom Capital, using keke to operate was last Thursday apprehended by some residents of Ekpo Obot Street who gave them a hot pursuit after they had stolen from a boutique at No. 15 Ekpo Obot Street. Narrating her ordeal, the Boutique sales girl, Imaobong Isaiah exclaimed: “See me o-o-o! The two girls entered my shop on a pretence to buy from me but after picking all the costly female hand bags, shoes, men jeans, hand watches and cloths worth forty-five thousand naira, instead of paying for what they have bought, they sent me to go and buy them drinks. “So, I went to buy drinks for them at the nearby shop. As I returned, I met them making calls, and immediately their operational Keke man who was on standby to pick them came and they dashed inside the Keke with all my cloths without paying. So, I told them to give me my cloths, they refused. “So, I started shouting, help! Thief! Thief! But the Keke man had already moved. As God would like it, luck ran out on them, the people around and people using cars pursued them and caught them.” Questioning the two suspects, Grace Ekpo and Mfon Daniel from Itiam Ikot Ebia, Uyo Local Government, they confessed to the crime; saying apart from looting from shops, they have been involved in all kinds of robberies in the State and begged the people not to kill them. They said: “When we enter peoples’ shops, we will pack the most costly ones; after which we will ask the attendant to get us water or send you on an errand. That will make us run away with the goods without paying for it. We rob women in Keke, we pick recharge card bags and anything that would fetch us quick money.’’ The gang was however saved from the angry mob when men of the Police Force arrived the scene, and whisked them away to the Police Station along Wellington Bassey Way, Uyo. An eyewitness told this reporter that the gang had earlier also stolen clothes from another boutique on the same street, including hand bags full with recharge cards and cash of about fifty thousands of naira. Police Public Relations Officer Cordelia Nwawe could not be reached to comment on the development. Source: https://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=936583426403508&id=378378918890631 |
Any study of the nature of death begs an important foundational question: Why must things die in the first place? Indeed, death is a grand mystery. Throughout time, every major religion, philosophy, and spiritual train of thought has sought to explain this mystery. It is a subject that touches the life of every man and woman, uniting the entire human race under a cloud of inevitable mortality. The rich and the poor alike meet the same end; the black and the white both go to the grave; the powerful and the humble all leave this planet eventually. Interestingly, scientific research into single-celled organisms reveals that the nature of life, on a cellular level, does not automatically include a self-destruct mechanism for death. In other words, it appears that death is an unnatural part of life. Yet despite this, everything on earth eventually dies. Many lines of religious thought simply accept the inevitability of death and instead try to offer better alternatives that await the faithful in the afterlife. These ideas bring comfort to many people who have lost loved ones or are facing death themselves, but they leave others wondering, “Why must death exist? Wouldn’t an all-powerful God eradicate death? Shouldn’t all life inherently live forever?” The mystery of death is so profound that, despite the millennia of religious doctrine, mythology, scientific research, and the many theories and explanations that exist on the subject, people today are more confused than ever about it. Even within individual religious groups there is often a stark difference of opinion on the nature of death. To see this, walk around a cemetery and note the different inscriptions on the tombstones. Being a parent can be one of the most rewarding and fulfilling experiences of your life, but that doesn't mean it's easy. No matter what age your child/children is/are, your work is never done. To be a good parent, you need to know how to make your children feel valued and loved, while teaching them the difference between right and wrong. At the end of the day, the most important thing is to create a nurturing environment where your children feel like they can thrive and develop into confident, independent, and caring adults. Below are tips on how to be a good parent; 1. Give your child love and affection. Sometimes the best thing you can give your child is love and affection. A warm touch or a caring hug can let your child know how much you really care about him or her. Don't ever overlook how important a physical connection is when it comes to your child. Here are some ways to show love and affection: 2. Listen to your children. It's important that your communication with your children goes both ways. You shouldn't just be there to enforce rules, but to listen to your children when they are having a problem. You have to be able to express interest in your children and involve yourself in their life. 3. Avoid comparing your children to others, especially siblings. Each child is individual and unique. Celebrate their differences and instill in each child the desire to pursue their interests and dreams. Failure to do so may give your child an inferiority complex, an idea that they can never be good enough in your eyes. 4. Make time for your children. Be careful not to stifle or smother them, however. There's a big difference between protecting someone and imprisoning them within your too unyielding demands. You want them to feel like your time together is sacred and special without making them feel like they are forced to spend time with you. 5. Enforce reasonable rules. Enforce rules that apply to every person leading a happy and productive life — not model rules of your ideal person. It's important to set rules and guidelines that help your child develop and grow without being so strict that your child feels like he can't take a step without doing something wrong. 6. Teach your children to be independent. Teach your children that it is okay for them to be different, and they do not have to follow the crowd. Teach them right from wrong when they are young, and they will (more often than not) be able to make their own decisions, instead of listening to or following others. 7. Be a good role model. If you want your child to be well-behaved, then you should model the behavior and character you hope your children will adopt and continue to live by the rules that you set. 8. Respect your child's privacy. Respect their privacy as you would want them to respect yours; for example, if you teach your child that your room is out of boundaries to them, respect the same with their room. Allow them to feel that once they enter their room they can know that no one will look through their drawers, or read their diary. This will teach them to honor their own space and to respect the privacy of others. 9. Let your children make their own mistakes. Life is a great teacher. Don't be too quick to rescue your child from the results of their own actions if the consequences are not overly severe. For example, cutting themselves (in a minor way) may hurt, but it's better than leaving them unaware of why sharp objects should be avoided. 10. Allow your kids to experience life for themselves. Don't make decisions for them all the time; they must learn how to live with the consequences from the choices they make. After all, they will have to learn to think for themselves sometime. It's best they start when you are there to help minimize the negative consequences and accentuate the positive ones. IMPORTANT: Do not share your own past misbehavior with your children because they will compare themselves to you and thus, expect less from themselves. "So! You were like that too". Don't live your life through them. Let them make their own choices and live their life how they want to. Source: https://www.facebook.com/forum9ja/posts/951518478243286 |
The governor of President Muhammadu Buhari’s home State, Katsina, Aminu Masari, lied to the president to get more than N11 billion bailout supposedly to pay workers’ salary arrears, PREMIUM TIMES can authoritatively report today. Feigning insolvency, Katsina State applied as one of the 27 states in need of bailout from the Federal Government to pay workers owed salaries for months. In a letter to the speaker of the state’s House of Assembly, titled: “Bailout on Outstanding Salary for Workers of the State and Local Governments” with number S/SGKT/154/3 dated August 26, 2015, Mr. Masari said when he took office on May 29, his government inherited two months outstanding salary of workers of the state and local government from the previous Ibrahim Shema administration. “I would like to request for the Honourable House’s consent for the State government to collaborate with the Central Bank of Nigeria for a Bail Out of outstanding workers’ salary in the State and Local governments,” Mr. Masari wrote. “Mr Speaker may wish to know that at the time of the take-off of this administration, the State and Local Governments in the State owed workers two months’ salary to the tune of N11,086,632,741.32 broken down as follows: Katsina State: N3,646,943,099.80; 34 local government councils: N7,439,689,641.32; Total: N11,086,632,741,.32. “It is in the view of the need for the State Government and Local Governments to meet their obligation in the payment of outstanding workers’ salary, considering the lean resources inherited from the former administration, that it has become necessary for the State Government to apply for the bail out on behalf of the State and Local Governments.” he added. However, PREMIUM TIMES’ investigation revealed that the state had no business being among the group of insolvent states in need of federal bailout to pay workers salary arrears. Katsina State civil servants as well as workers in the state’s 34 local governments received their full salaries and allowances up to May when Mr. Masari became governor. In fact, the governor’s chief press secretary, Abdul Labaran, confirmed to PREMIUM TIMES that workers were not owed and that their salaries had been completely paid up to August. “Katsina State government doesn’t owe anybody any salary,” Mr. Labaran said over the phone after a long pause. He also answered in the affirmative when asked if he meant that the state government had paid workers in the state up to August. “That is correct,” he said. However, when confronted with questions about why the government requested a bailout as contained in the letter to the state assembly from his principal, Mr. Labaran refused to answer saying he was not aware of any such letter. He also refused that the letter to be read to him. “I don’t know the letter you’re talking about. How do I know you’re quoting from the letter. You could be quoting from anywhere,” he said. Oluwabusola Olawale, a former media aide of the immediate past governor, Ibrahim Shema, seemed shocked when asked if the last administration bequeathed two months unpaid salaries to the present administration of Mr. Masari. “Throughout the tenure of Ibrahim Shema, workers’ salaries were paid latest on the 25th of every month. As at May both the state and local government salaries were paid on the 25th. So he left office without owing any worker any salary. So this news is strange to us. We don’t know what could have necessitated this letter,” he said. “There is definitely no justification to ask for a bailout of two months salary,” he said. The N338 billion federal bailout, paid by the Central Bank of Nigeria, was authorised by President Buhari to help insolvent states that had failed to pay workers for months. The loan is repayable with an interest of nine per cent over a 20-year period. By August 31, Kwara, Zamfara and Osun States had received the bailout to clear their backlogs of salaries. Twenty seven states are expected to receive the aid. Amongst other conditions for the accessing the credit, the CBN requires the resolutions of the respective state executive council mandating the loan, and an approval from the House of Assembly. Also, the state must issue an Irrevocable Standing Payment Orders (ISPOs) to ensure timely repayment of the loan from the state’s Federation Account allocations. The CBN said it gives approval for the fund to be released within 24 hours after a state meets all the conditions. Source: https://www.facebook.com/forum9ja/posts/949298828465251 |
President Muhammadu Buhari said Tuesday in Abuja that his administration would undertake a review of Nigerian foreign missions to determine those that are really essential. Speaking after being briefed by the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Bulus Lolo, President Buhari said a presidential committee would soon be established to carry out the review. The president said the review would determine the number of essential missions Nigeria needs to maintain abroad so that appropriate standards and quality can be maintained. The president said there was no point in Nigeria operating missions all over the world “with dilapidated facilities and demoralized staff”, when the need for some of the missions was questionable. “Let’s keep only what we can manage. We can’t afford much for now. There’s no point in pretending,” President Buhari told Mr. Lolo and other officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The president also called for the record of former government officials and other persons still using diplomatic and official passports illegally, saying his administration will take necessary action against them. “Something has to be done so that we can get back our respectability as a country. Some people carry official passports and get involved in all sorts of negative acts. We need to do something about it,” the president said. Mr. Lolo told President Buhari that the challenges facing the Ministry of Foreign Affairs include the absence of a Foreign Service Commission, poor funding of foreign missions, policy inconsistencies and training deficiencies, among others. Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors on Tuesday at a meeting attended by 2 out of 13 PDP governors condemned last week’s invasion of Akwa Ibom Government House by operatives of Department of State Security Services (DSS). The governors, under the aegis of PDP Governors Forum, expressed their view after a meeting of the forum held in the Bayelsa State Governor's office, Tuesday morning in Yenagoa. The PDP governors led by their chairperson and Governor of Ondo State, Mr. Olusegun Mimiko, condemned in strong terms, the alleged invasion of Akwa Ibom State Government House by DSS. Mimiko, who read the communique, said the invasion was against the spirit and tenets of democratic norms and tradition. "We insist that the trend must stop henceforth. No democracy survives without a viable opposition in any part of the world, and we must also remember to remind the APC that they are the real beneficiaries of the liberal democratic ethos of the PDP. "We once more advise the DSS to preoccupy itself with the task of ensuring internal security and desist from daily harassing and intimidating members of the opposition. "We implore the international community, the civil society organisations and human rights activists to call the All Progressives Party led Federal Government to order. “And to insist that it respects the well entrenched democratic tradition. "We all have a duty to prevent what looks to us like a steady slide of this country into a dictatorship," Mimiko said. Mimiko further said the PDP governors were worried and regarded the reported invasion on Akwa Ibom government as an assault on democracy. He said that what happened in Akwa Ibom spelt doom and posed a serious danger to the country's fledgling democracy. He alleged that the action was one of the continuous attempts by the APC-controlled government to stifle the opposition. Out of the 13 PDP governors in the country, two governors and four deputy governors who are reported to be in the state for the formal declaration of Gov Dickson for a second term were present at the meeting. The governors were Mimiko and the host, Gov. Seriake Dickson. Deputy Governors of Delta, Mr Kingsley Otuaro, Abia, Chris Akomas, Ebonyi, Mr Kelechi Igwe and Kogi, and Mr Yomi Awoniyi. Governors of Enugu, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Cross River, Benue, Ekiti and Taraba states were absent at the meeting and did not send any representatives. Source: https://www.facebook.com/forum9ja?ref=hl |
