Christianity EtcWhich Religion Is Right? by argon500(op): 4:52pm On Apr 24, 2016
There are many religions in the world. Nearly every religion claims that it is the only right religion. It is very confusing to people who are looking for the truth or are looking for God. Who should they listen to? Who has the right answer? Which religion is right? Or are they all right? Are they all good, since they basically teach people to be good? Are they all wrong? Let us consider these questions.

Most religions, whether they are according to the primary or the secondary definition, mainly teach people to be good by trying to activate the good nature that is within them. Generally, they teach people to love, to help and not hurt others, to do good deeds, etc.

Most of these teachings and methods are moral and ethical. At the same time they teach their people to ask God for help. They also promise that God will reward their people if they do well. But there has been a big problem concerning religion--neither the teachers nor the followers can live according to their standards. Although there is a willingness to follow them, there is a lack of ability to do so. This is because sin dwells in the flesh of man, preventing man from living according to such standards. The sinful nature, expressed in selfishness, strife, jealousy, etc., always overtakes man, causing man to fail. Many get frustrated and either look for another religion, form their own new religion, or give up on religion altogether. Religious man is incapable of being absolutely good, and his worship and service can never satisfy God.

Religions have all different views concerning God and different approaches to God. Most of the time these views and approaches are not according to the revelation of God in His word. Some have the true God, yet their worship and service are not according to His desire. Some have false gods, so it does not matter what rituals they have--they will never arrive at the true God. Each religion describes its "God" or gods as the right one(s), and they are all different. By logic, either they are all false or only one is true. Some people say that they believe God is this way or that way, but God does not change according to people's beliefs. People cannot create their own God according to their concepts. People need to find out who God is and what He wants with man. It is a tragedy that many people give their entire life to false gods. They will end up getting nothing. We must find the one and only true God and establish our relationship with Him.

Foreign AffairsQueen Elizabeth II Marks 90th Birthday Today by argon500(op): 5:08pm On Apr 21, 2016
Queen Elizabeth II was born Princess Elizabeth Alexandra Mary on April 21, 1926, in London, to Prince Albert, Duke of York (later known as King George VI), and Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon. She married Philip Mountbatten, Duke of Edinburgh, in 1947, became queen on February 6, 1952, and was crowned on June 2, 1953. She is the mother of Prince Charles, heir to the throne, as well as the grandmother of princes William and Harry. As the longest-serving monarch in British history, she has tried to make her reign more modern and sensitive to a changing public.

Not one for the spotlight, Elizabeth likes quiet pastimes. She enjoys reading mysteries, working on crossword puzzles and even watching wrestling on television.

For much of her life, the queen has surrounded herself with dogs. She is especially known for her love of corgis. Also a horse enthusiast, Elizabeth breeds thoroughbreds and attends several racing events each year.

Happy Birthday to her majesty.

The commissioner of Police, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Wilson Inalegwu, has ordered the restriction of vehicular movement in the nation’s capital between 7 am- 4 pm on Saturday.(Today)

Anjuguri Manzah, FCT command spokesman, said the restriction was to allow for free and fair conduct of the rescheduled chairmanship and councillorship elections.

“This is part of the security measures adopted by the command to ensure safety and security during the elections,” Manzah said in a statement.

The statement said the restriction excluded vehicles on essential duty.

Manzah assured FCT residents that the command had strategically deployed personnel and logistics to provide adequate security during the poll.

He enjoined residents to be vigilant and cooperate with the police and other security agencies by reporting suspicious movements and activities.

PoliticsBREAKING NEWS- Boko Haram Leader, Abubakar Shekau Finally Arrested By Nigeria Ar by argon500(op): 10:52am On Apr 01, 2016
The military has recorded a major feat in its battle against the militant Islamic sect, Boko Haram by killing no fewer than 30 insurgents and arrested Abubakar Shekau, the Boko haram leader in Konduga, about 70 kilometres to Maiduguri on Thursday.

Abubakar Shekau, also known by the alias Darul Akeem wa Zamunda Tawheed, or Darul Tawheed ("the abode of monotheism"wink, thought to be born between 1965 and 1975. He is a Kanuri man known as the leader of Boko Haram, a Nigerian militant group that has declared loyalty to the Islamist militant group Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL).

He served as deputy leader to the group's founder, Mohammed Yusuf, until Yusuf was killed in 2009. Shekau was reported killed in 2009 but reappeared as the group leader less than a year later. The Nigerian army also stated to have killed him during the 2014 Battle of Kodunga that lasted from September 12 to 14th. The Cameroonian military posted a photo and also claimed that their forces killed Shekau in September 2014.

In response to these reports, security analyst Ryan Cummings commented, "Is this his fourth or fifth death? He dies more often than an iPhone battery. In early October 2014, a video was obtained by AFP news agency that showed Shekau alive, in which he mocked the Nigerian military's allegations that he had been killed.

Christianity EtcWhat’s So Good About Good Friday? by argon500(op): 9:55am On Mar 25, 2016
Why do we call Good Friday “good,” when it is such a dark and bleak event commemorating a day of suffering and death for Jesus?
For Christians, Good Friday is a crucial day on which Christians commemorate the crucifixion and death of Jesus Christ. The name may seem counterintuitive to many Christians and nonbelievers, since the day is typically viewed as a solemn one, often observed with fasting and somber processions.

Still, why call the day of Jesus’ death “Good Friday” instead of “Bad Friday” or something similar? Some Christian traditions do take this approach: in German, for example, the day is called Karfreitag, or “Sorrowful Friday.” In English, in fact, the origin of the term “Good” is debated: some believe it developed from an older name, “God’s Friday.” Regardless of the origin, the name Good Friday is entirely appropriate because the suffering and death of Jesus, as terrible as it was, marked the dramatic culmination of God’s plan to save his people from their sins.

In order for the good news of the gospel to have meaning for us, we first have to understand the bad news of our condition as sinful people under condemnation. The good news of deliverance only makes sense once we see how we are enslaved. Another way of saying this is that it is important to understand and distinguish between law and gospel in Scripture. We need the law first to show us how hopeless our condition is; then the gospel of Jesus’ grace comes and brings us relief and salvation.

In the same way, Good Friday is “good” because as terrible as that day was, it had to happen for us to receive the joy of Easter. The wrath of God against sin had to be poured out on Jesus, the perfect sacrificial substitute, in order for forgiveness and salvation to be poured out to the nations. Paradoxically, the day that seemed to be the greatest triumph of evil was actually the deathblow in God’s gloriously good plan to redeem the world from bondage.

The cross is where we see the convergence of great suffering and God’s forgiveness. Psalms 85:10 sings of a day when “righteousness and peace” will “kiss each other.” The cross of Jesus is where that occurred, where God’s demands, his righteousness, coincided with his mercy. We receive divine forgiveness, mercy, and peace because Jesus willingly took our divine punishment, the result of God’s righteousness against sin. “For the joy set before him” (Hebrews 12:2) Jesus endured the cross on Good Friday, knowing it led to his resurrection, our salvation, and the beginning of God’s reign of righteousness and peace.

Good Friday marks the day when wrath and mercy met at the cross. That’s why Good Friday is so dark and so Good.

Happy Good Friday

PoliticsGod Is Angry With Buhari, He Is Incompetent, Clueless – Fayose by argon500(op): 5:35pm On Mar 23, 2016
Against the background of the violence that apparently characterized the rerun elections in Rivers State, Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti State has lashed out at president Mohammadu Buhari, saying that God is angry with him.

According to the governor, the president superintended over elections that were remarkably bloody. The governor who spoke with Journalists in Abuja on Tuesday chronicled the lists of elections held under the present government, stating that power belonged to the God and and should not be abused by any individual no matter how highly placed. He said: “I am telling you the truth.

Power doesn’t come from anywhere. God rules in the affairs of men. Oppressing, bringing and cutting people down, taking their blood, God is angry. The way this government is taking people down, God is angry. God isn’t happy. Go to Rivers, they kill people. “Go to Akwa Ibom, they kill people. Go to Bayelsa, they kill people, incarcerate innocent people. God is angry with Buhari.

You can’t continue to take the blood of the innocent. Look at my predictions for the year 2016 for Nigeria, everything has come to pass. This is a different ball game. He that will take me, he that will go against me must first of all defeat God.

If these were the kind of violence that greeted Buhari’s election would he ever be president?” Speaking further on the likely impact of the just concluded expanded retreat of the National Economic Council, NEC in Abuja, Governor Fayose stated that the present economic situations in the country indicated that president Buhari lacked technical competence to solve the problem of the country. Even though he specifically praised the idea, the governor wondered if it would not the just a talk shop.

ComputersFacebook Introduces Reactions Alongside Like Button by argon500(op): 1:56pm On Feb 26, 2016
Facebook's "like" button isn't going away, but it's about to get some company.

Facebook has been testing alternatives to "like" in about a half-dozen countries, including Ireland, Spain and Japan. On Wednesday, it will start making "haha," ''angry" and three other responses available in the U.S. and the rest of the world.

In changing a core part of Facebook — the 7-year-old "like" button has become synonymous with the social network — the company said it tried to keep things familiar. The thumbs-up "like" button will look just as it long has, without the other choices cluttering the screen or confusing people. You have to hold that button for a second or two for the alternatives to pop up.

Here are seven things to know about Facebook's latest feature, known as Reactions.

WHAT'S NOT TO LIKE?

When a friend posts that his father has died, or a cousin gets frustrated with her morning commute, hitting "like" might seem insensitive. Users have long requested a "dislike" button, but that was deemed too negative and problematic. Are you disliking the death or the call for sympathy?

Facebook chose to offer more nuanced reactions — "love," ''haha," ''wow," ''sad" and "angry" — alongside "like" — to give users "greater control over their expressivity," says Julie Zhuo, Facebook's product design director.

SportsTalking Tactics – Five Things Arsenal Must Do To Beat Barcelona by argon500(op): 5:05pm On Feb 23, 2016
Talking Tactics – Five things Arsenal must do to beat Barcelona

Arsenal take on Barcelona in Champions League round of 16 tie later tonight with odds massively stacked against the Gunners. Barcelona are playing their best football in recent seasons, and it seems impossible to contain the terrific trio of Messi, Suarez and Neymar.

So how do Arsenal even begin to think of getting pass a Barcelona side, who do not know what is it like to be beaten? We take a look at five things Arsenal must do to beat Barcelona.

Cut Barcelona’s supply line – Ivan Rakitic

While Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar are getting all the plaudits for scoring goal, it is Ivan Rakitic who pulls the strings from midfield to supply crucial balls for his attackers. Francis Coquelin will be the man responsible to mark Rakitic and ensure that the Serbian is not allowed to dominate the game like he has done in recent weeks.

Work hard off the ball

For a team like Arsenal, who like to have more of the possession will have to play in a different way tonight. Barcelona like to have more than 60% of the ball regardless of the team they play against. That is where Gunners need to do an impeccable job off the ball if they want to stand any chance of victory tonight.

Go long and attack second balls

Gunners won 8 out of their 10 aerial duels vs Leicester and with players like Olivier Giroud, Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker in their side, Arsenal need to win the first ball and bring runners in to the game. Players like Alexis Sanchez, Mesut Ozil and Aaron Ramsey need to feed on the second balls and make something of it to ensure a positive result at Emirates.

Ramsey and Coquelin to have best game of the career

The only way Arsenal can hope to win this one is if their midfield duo Coquelin and Ramsey have a strong game tonight. In particular Ramsey needs to step up and be counted for. One thing the Welshman would need to do tonight – ‘cut off his attacking instincts’.

Draw inspiration from Bayern game and rely on Counter-Attack

Two months back, Arsenal were given no chance to beat Bayern Munich in the group stages. The end results was a 2-0 win from Arsenal and it was the biggest reason for their survival in the competition.

Tonight’s game should not be any different than the Bayern game. Gunners need to stick to their counter-attacking style and hit Barcelona hard with the pace Theo Walcott and Alexis Sanchez. They have Olivier Giroud and Danny Welbeck as the surprise weapons, which needs to be used with caution.

After setting his wristwatch (MADE IN TAIWAN) to his radio (MADE IN VIETNAM) he got in his car (MADE IN GERMANY) filled with petrol imported from (SAUDI ARABIA) and continued his search for a good paying NIGERIAN job...
At the end of yet another discouraging and fruitless day checking his computer (MADE IN MALAYSIA), Mr David Ahmed Okoro decided to relax for a while. He put on his slippers (MADE IN BRAZIL) poured himself a glass of wine (MADE IN SOUTH AFRICA), while fiddling with his mobile phone (MADE IN SOUTH KOREA), and then wondered why he cant find a good paying job in... NIGERIA.

He felt achy and sore in his left kneel, he decided to take one tablet of his TRAMADOL TABLETS (MADE IN BANGLADESH) to relieve the pain. Lying down on his bed and wondering why NIGERIAN External Foreign Reserve has depleted to under $ 28billion which has translated to free fall depreciation of Nigerian NAIRA to US DOLLAR at PARALLEL MARKET.......
Fellow Nigerians, let's us start producing, let us start buying made in NIGERIA goods If our economy is to grow and create better jobs.
How can a country like Nigeria be importing toothpicks, cotton bud, cotton wool, matches, rubber band e.t.c? And we complain at the same time that there is no jobs for our teeming youths?

The situation is even pathetic now when you see Nigerians ( in Lagos) prefer Cotonou garri to that of Ijebu, buy cotonou pineapple and they say it is better than that of Nigeria. That is why frozen foods will be exported to Cotonou from farms like that of Obasanjo re-pack and imported back to Nigeria because they know Nigerians always prefer made-in-outside Nigeria goods .
That is why you will see an expatriate renumeration will be juicy than that of his Nigeria counterpart even if that Nigerian is more certificated than the expatriate ( This also happen in government parastatals).

Any nation that import majorly foreign made goods/ services rather than producing their own are hurting its people....
When we keep importing foreign made products into Nigeria, we keep importing poverty into our country and exporting jobs abroad...
Let's go back to the land to grow and patronise MADE IN NIGERIA products... Let's all begin the process, let us all go to work. Nigeria must work well.

RomanceA Short History Of Valentine's Day by argon500(op): 12:45pm On Feb 14, 2016
Some hate it, and for some it is just another day on the calendar. But a good number love Feb. 14 as well, and that is what the day is all about.

Valentine’s Day is named in honour of Saint Valentine, the patron saint of lovers who, it is believed, was murdered on Feb. 14 AD 270. During that time, the Roman emperor Claudius II cancelled all marriages and engagements in Rome, as he was having a hard time getting men to join the military, and he believed married men, being emotionally attached to their wives and families, did not make good soldiers.
However, Valentine secretly married couples until he was caught, then, refusing to renounce his Christian beliefs, was sentenced to be beaten to death with clubs and have his head cut off.

One legend suggests he left a farewell note for the jailer’s daughter before his death which said “Love from your Valentine,” the first Valentine’s card.
It was the pope who set aside Feb. 14 to honour St. Valentine in AD 496. However, the day was not often celebrated until the Middle Ages. Gift giving and exchanging of hand-made cards became common in England around the 18th century, while in the 1840s the holiday caught on in the United States.

Today, approximately one-fourth of all the cards sent in a year are sent on Valentine’s Day. But while the day is about love, cards, chocolates and flowers in Canada, the day is celebrated differently around the world.
For example, in Spain books are often given on Feb. 14, while in Finland the day marks the honouring of friends, not lovers. In South Korea and Japan, women are to give chocolate to men on Valentine’s Day, while men are to give sweets to women on White Day one month later.

PoliticsIs Former President Goodluck Jonathan Really An “ineffectual Buffoon” by argon500(op): 2:35pm On Feb 10, 2016
The Economist has described former President, Goodluck Jonathan as an ineffectual buffoon.

Yes corruption didn't start or end with Jonathan. But corruption surely took over completely. Some Progress and development did occurred as a result of partly open market under Jonathan.

1. N195 Billion Maina Pension Scam

It is believed that Alhaji Maina misappropriated billions of naira worth of pension funds, which he claimed to have recovered from pension thieves.

Punishment: None fled Nigeria

2. $6bn Fuel Subsidy Scam

Nigeria’s parliament has discussed a report said to reveal that $6bn (£4bn) has been defrauded from the fuel subsidy fund in the past two years.

The debate, which was televised live, made official findings that have been widely leaked in recent days.

Notable members of the PDP or their families were involved in the scam like Mamman Ali and Mahmud Tukur

Punishment: Ongoing court cases, no convictions. House of reps report tainted by Farouk Lawan bribery setup.

3. Police Pension Fund Fraud

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arraigned the ex-permanent secretary in the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, now a director in the Police Pension Office, Atiku Abubakar Kigo; the chief accountant, Mrs. Uzoma Cyril Attang, and four others before an Abuja high court on an 18-count charge of conspiracy, breach of trust and embezzlement of N32.8 billion police pension funds.

Punishment: accused got a two years sentence or 750,000 fine. Paid 750,000

4. Stella Oduah car purchase scandal

The committee set up by President Goodluck Jonathan to probe the N255m bulletproof car scandal in the aviation ministry has indicted the Minister, Ms. Stella Oduah.

In October, there were reports that with the approval of the minister, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority purchased two bulletproof BMW cars at an allegedly inflated rate of N255m.

The development sparked a countrywide controversy with many Nigerians and groups calling for her sacking.

Punishment: None

5. NNPC missing $20billion naira

Even in a country where untold oil wealth disappears into the pockets of the elite, the oil corruption scheme he was investigating seemed outsize — and he threatened to lay it bare at a meeting with Nigeria’s top bankers.

The whistleblower was none other than the governor of the country’s central bank. Weeks later, however, he was out, fired by Nigeria’s president in an episode that has shaken the Nigerian economy, filled newspapers and airwaves here, and even inspired a rare street demonstration.

Punishment: Whistle blower was fired. The FG ordered an Audit of the NNPC. Audit report later indicts NNPC, corporation to refund $1.48billion

6. $15 million in Private Jet Arms Scandal

A private jet that conveyed $9.3 million cash from Nigeria to South Africa for an alleged arms deal between the two countries, had Nigerian crew members, and passengers from Israel and Austria.

Punishment: government claims involvement in scandal. No further explanations to individuals on board. Blames US for black market arms deal.

7. Ekiti Gate

The audio recordings depict the meeting as being attended by the eventual “winner” of the election, Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti; Senator Iyiola Omisore; a man identified as Honorable Abdulkareem; the Minister for Police Affairs Caleb Olubolade; and Senator Musiliu Obanikoro who was at the time the Minister of State for Defence. Mr. Chris Uba came to Ekiti with huge stash of cash and soldiers from the East to carry out the assignment.

The 37-minute recording details the conversation between these men as they bribed Brigadier General Momoh with a promotion for his assistance in carrying out election fraud in Ekiti. In it, Obanikoro is clearly heard informing the group of men, “[I] am not here for a tea party, am on special assignment by the President.”

Punishment: None

IN GENERAL- The Best Thing Goodluck Jonathan Ever Did Was to Concede. Nigeria Would Have Been in Crisis if Jonathan Did Not Concede Defeat. Jonathan’s gesture is an evidence of his statesmanship, maturity and humility.

It is a good legacy the former president Jonathan is leaving behind for other countries to emulate. In fact, he has set a good model of democracy for ECOWAS countries.

PoliticsIs IPOB Group A Cult Group? by argon500(op): 11:47am On Feb 10, 2016
According to dictionary, Cult is;

a. a relatively small group of people having beliefs or practices regarded by others as strange or sinister.

b. a small group that is not part of a larger and more accepted group and that has beliefs regarded by many people as extreme or dangerous

c. a group sect generally considered to be extremist or false, with its followers often living in an unconventional manner under the guidance of an authoritarian, charismatic leader.

There is an adage that says “when two elephant fight, the grass suffers”. When crisis associated with cultism arises, properties, lives of victims and innocent people will be lost.

With the above definition, Almost IPOB activities are related to cult group. 6 IPOB Members Shot Dead In Aba, 30 Injured, 45 In Police Net yesterday. Why the waste of lifes all the time? Are the group leaders intentionally sacrificing their members?

The worst part is that Nnamdi kanu's family will never be found protesting on the streets, risking their lives and inhaling tear gas. It's jobless youths that can only indulge themselves in such lecherous and atrocious activities.

There are so many ways of fighting for freedom.

Enough of unecessary protest. Fight your ways in a decent way.

A word is enough to the wise

PoliticsJonathan’s Silence by argon500(op): 2:51pm On Feb 05, 2016
By Donu Kogbara

I’ve just chanced upon an article that was written in The Will, an online publication, on January 11. It stated that the PDP’s Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Abdulahi Jalo, “has tasked former President Goodluck Jonathan to speak out on the controversial $2.1bn meant for the purchase of arms to fight the Boko Haram insurgency during his tenure but which was allegedly shared by some influential politicians.”

According to this report, Jalo – who is from the North-East and has personal experience of the devastation caused by the terrible violence and insecurity that has scarred the region since Boko Haram emerged – said (at a press briefing in Abuja) that the sharing of money by party members was a disgrace and that the controversy surrounding the disbursement of funds by the former National Security Adviser, Colonel Sambo Dasuki, “should have attracted the former President’s attention.” And, furthermore, that Jonathan should tell Nigerians and the international community who authorised the sharing of the money.

Disbursement of funds

“As all of you know,” Jalo continued, “no single kobo can be spent by the Federal Government without an act of the National Assembly. Money earmarked for arms purchase, some people diverted it to something else. So many people that you cannot even expect were involved. Now, darkness has come to light….
…[and since] “Jonathan is alive, he should clarify whether he asked the National Security Adviser to divert money meant to fight Boko Haram…”

Though I understand Jalo’s frustration, Jonathan is not legally obliged to say anything at the moment; and I can see why Jonathan’s only comment so far has been (in a French TV interview) that he laid a solid foundation for terrorism to be defeated and that his successor, President Buhari, is conducting the war against Boko Haram with weapons that were bought by the Jonathan administration.
Jonathan has yet to specifically respond to the allegations against Dasuki and others. He has, so far, chosen to maintain a studious silence on this front.

Meanwhile, the scandal that is unfolding is generating fevered debates and consuming many of Jonathan’s associates and cronies and onetime subordinates.
And though none of them have been found guilty by any court of law, we are told that the evidence against some of them is compelling.

If it turns out that The Accused have committed financial crimes that are extremely serious, not least because they have undermined our armed forces and increased the death toll in the North East, I will be SO disappointed that men of such seniority betrayed our trust and callously ignored the nation’s wellbeing.

If the VIPs in the dock did indeed misbehave so massively when they were in powerful positions, it is unlikely that Jonathan didn’t have a clue what any of them were up to and possible that Jonathan even gave them permission to misbehave.

Former President Goodluck Jonathan during the world press conference in Geneva, Switzerland, Wednesday.
Whatever the case may be, the arms probe wahala is not going to go away anytime soon. It will hog the headlines for the forseeable future; and Jonathan probably won’t be able to maintain a lofty Pontius Pilatesque stance forever because he was overtly close to many of the individuals who are being detained, queried and tried.

He also happened to be their Boss. And we all know that the buck stops on the Boss’s desk and that even when a Boss is unaware of his underlings’ misdeeds, he has to take part of the blame for anything that goes wrong under his watch.

This sad and sordid drama will not be complete without some explanations from the former Commander-In-Chief; and I can’t wait to hear Jonathan’s side of the story.
