UMUAHIA—OHANAEZE Ndigbo Youth Council, OYC, has warned Niger Delta Avengers against threat to bomb Abia State, saying that there is no IPOB/MASSOB member being detained in the State as alleged by the Avengers. File: Militants They called on the Avengers to embrace dialogue and allow peace to reign for the good of the people of Niger Delta. In a statement signed by Israel Ogbonnaya and Chetachi Ikpe, Abia state chairman and the State secretary of the council, respectively, Ohaneze youths said, “we also call on the Niger Delta Avengers to sheathe their sword and drop threat to bomb and attack Abia state and other Niger Delta states. “There is no IPOB/MASSOB detainee in Abia state. Finally, we recommend dialogue as the only means to address all contentious issues at stake”. Meanwhile, OYC has commended Governor Okezie Ikpeazu for securing N1 billion agriculture loans for the State and insisting that it would go to only genuine farmers in the State and not to internet farmers and urged him to keep his words so as to boost agriculture in the state. “We urge farmers and youths in the state to utilize the loan judiciously and massively produce food to feed the people. “We are also encouraged by the decision of the Abia state government to boost agriculture in the state through the one billion naira agricultural loan obtained from the Central Bank of Nigeria. This will go a long way to boost agriculture in the state and serve as a youth empowerment programme and Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth council worldwide will participate fully”, they said. The statement also lauded the governor for holding town hall meetings across the state, saying he demonstrated democracy at work and “a clear evidence of leadership by example and concern for the grassroots”.

ENUGU—The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has praised activities of the Niger Delta Avengers, NDA, saying that they are fighting for the freedom of the enslaved people of the area by an oppressive Nigerian government. This was contained in a statement, entitled, ‘IPOB supports our kith and Kin- the NDA,’ and jointly signed by the spokesmen of the organisation, Mr. Emma Nmezu  and Dr. Clifford Iroanya, yesterday. The statement read in part: “We want to place it on record that IPOB under the leadership of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has no connection with some groups who are claiming on the pages of the newspapers that they do not support our fellow freedom fighters – the NDA. We make reference to a particular group which is a well-known turncoat and its leader who has been bribed with oil blocks allocations in the oil-rich areas of Biafra land. Militants This same compromised group is known to have started the ugly incidence of kidnapping in Biafra land with its members often used as thugs and hired killers for politicians in the country. “The NDA had consistently stated that the release of IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu is a precondition for any discussion with Nigeria. Unfortunately and disgracefully, the incompetent  Nigerian government has swept this demand under the carpet while magnifying the notion of amnesty payments and resource control as reasons for the NDA‘s actions. For the avoidance of doubt, the NDA is fighting for the freedom of the people of Biafra and not for amnesty payment or for resource control as some commentators would like to believe. When Biafra is finally liberated from the bondage called Nigeria, resources shall be controlled by the owners of the land where those resources are located. “The incompetent Nigerian government should stop deceiving the entire world into believing that what the freedom fighters of NDA are demanding is resource control. Amnesty is associated with criminality and a people who are fighting for their freedom should not be unjustly termed criminals. “The notion and talk about amnesty for our own freedom fighters, the NDA, is a misnomer and should be taken out of any discourse. On the contrary, amnesty should be granted to the Nigerian government, especially to those from the criminal class masquerading as elite, who unjustly appropriated oil and gas wells and other resources in Biafra land to themselves and their cohorts to the detriment of the masses.”

A large number of Niger Delta stakeholders are not impressed by federal government’s ongoing negotiation with Ijaw militants from which other ethnic groups in the geo-political zone are excluded.
The talks are aimed at ending the continuous destruction of oil/gas installations by the Niger Delta Avengers (NDA) which has brought oil production to about 1.2million barrels per day with severe consequences for the economy.
Notable Urhobo and Isoko leaders in Delta State, say the one-sided negotiation will only create more problems than it is seeking to solve.
They are of the view that government should treat the Avengers and others damaging the economy as criminals and not negotiate with them.
The negotiation, it is feared, largely fueled the recent  emergence of  a militant group in Delta  -Utorogu Liberation Movement – which threatened  to blow up the strategic Utorogu Gas Plant and other assets under Oil Mining Lease, OML 34 in the state.
Frontline activist and one-time Secretary-General of the Nigerian Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), Chief Frank Kokori, said he expected those involved in the destruction of the nation’s assets to be treated as criminals.
The Urhobo and Isoko, speaking through the chairman of OML 30 Community Development Board (CBD), Morris Idiovwa, warned the federal government against dialoguing with those destroying oil and gas assets in the name of the Niger Delta as doing so could only degenerate into a fresh round of ethnic wars in the region.
Some ex-militants, under the third phase of the federal government amnesty programme, who are of Urhobo stock threatened to also destroy  critical oil and gas assets in their area if that is what would  get them federal government’s attention as the Ijaw groups have done.
The Delta State government, reacting to the threat to blow up the Utorogu Gas Plant, convened an emergency security meeting in Jeremi, the headquarters of Ughelli South council area of the state on Thursday.
Asked to comment on the reported negotiation between the federal government and some Ijaw militants, Chief Kokori, who is also a leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State said: “Have they started negotiating with them? I wish them well if they have identified the right people, but to me I regard people who damage federal infrastructure as criminals.
“I don’t know who they are discussing with and I don’t know the type of negotiation they are holding, but I wish them good luck.”
For his part, Idiovwa, said the Urhobo who are the largest ethnic group, and the Isoko have more critical facilities in their localities  than the Ijaw, who  he said seemed to have blackmailed  the federal government to talk to them by destroying the few assets in their own part of the state.
He said:”What we have been seeing in Delta State is terrifying; especially in the way a single ethnic nationality is taking over the identity of the entire Niger Delta.  What is happening is outright criminality and we, as the largest ethnic group in Delta state, are not in support of this.
“We have never been criminals and we don’t want to be criminals. We believe the best way to approach issues is dialogue. But with what we are seeing now, the intelligence we are gathering and what is in the media, a set of people decided to take up arms and disrupt the existing peace in the Niger Delta region because of their selfish interest.
“The federal government has already started inciting an ethnic crisis in Delta state because as we speak now, we have been receiving series of mails, SMS and calls from different regions and groups in Urhobo and Isoko.
“My office is responsible for ensuring safety of life and property here and if the people are aware that the same advantage they have, in terms of assets and production, is what some people in another part are using to get the federal government to come to negotiate with them, because those people have taken to arms struggle and are destroying the assets in their areas, what would you expect from those who have been law abiding, calm and watched over the facilities in their domain?
“So you want to disregard them because they have not taken up arms. This is one move we will resist.
“Government should tread carefully. We are not in support of any criminality by any set of people. We have not mandated Egbesu to negotiate for us, we have not mandated the Avengers, MEND, JNDLF or IYC to negotiate for us. We have not mandated any group to negotiate for the Urhobo or Isoko.
“We are standing on our own and we are telling the federal government that whatever is done for any group should be replicated across the entire Niger Delta states or host communities that are producing, otherwise the outcome will be disastrous.”
Also speaking in Ughelli for members of the third phase of the Amnesty Programme in Urhobo, ‘General’ Gabriel Ogbuge said: “We have been shortchanged and sidelined. What the federal government is doing is very bad. We have all those facilities here, but government has never thought of coming here to hear from us.
“We have been peaceful only because of the efforts of some of our leaders. If not we know what we need to do to get their attention; we have the capacity to inflict the kind of damage the Avengers are inflicting, and remember that more facilities are here.”We see dialogue as a better option and that’s why we have been listening to our leaders. If the federal government wants peace they should do the right thing, and not force us to do what the Avengers are now doing.”
To forestall the festering security crisis in Delta State, the state government convened a security council meeting on Thursday to discuss the new threats surfacing in the Urhobo areas of the state.
Chairman, Ughelli South Council, Paul Etaga, presided at the meeting.
In attendance were oil host community heads and security operatives.
Reviewing the meeting, Etaga said: “From preliminary intelligence report, the group raising the threat are external forces working with some internal collaborators. They gave OML 34 stakeholders, especially community people 14 days to leave the operating environment so that when they come for the attack they won’t be hurt; that they want to come and destroy the gas plant.

This particular one is a waste and absolutely unnecessary. That state is already choked with vehicular traffic. Lagos needs to cater less for cars but more for trains, underground and bicycles.
Even the British knew this and made sure that you pay through your nose if you drove to the island ( there were parking meters everywhere,every 30 minutes, you had to feed the meter).
They have a metro already. Complete it,ring the street with overground railway, raise revenues with heavy congestion charges and biannual driving licenses, create bicycle lanes. This is what cities elsewhere are doing.
Not continue to waste money on ever expanding cities.
To even think about the amount of petrol being consumed in the state ( stuffs they should be exporting).
Let me guess, Once they quickly get all those vehicles into the island, they will have to waste more money expanding roads on the island.

There is pandemonium at awgu local government area of enugu state as fulani herdsmen clashes with the youth of awgu. trouble started on 17th of march when the villagers of awgu confronted fulani herdsmen,asking them to abdicate from there community due to plenty of damages caused by there cattles to there crops and farm land.
It was gathered that the youth of awgu has previously warned them to stay off there land,but on thursday the angry youth stothe fulani’s and kill one of there cattle.the same day the fulanis reacted by kiling one awgu youth,and kidnapped two women returning from there farm.


However,in reprisal,the awgu youth ambush and arrested 10 fulani herdmen,immediately the army got tip off they storm awgu and took the 10 fulanis to police station.and arrested some youth.as of the time of filing this report,the two kidnapped women is still atlarge.there is rumour that the police has set the 10 fulanis apprehended by awgu youth free.
