The National Drug Law Enforcement
Agency (NDLEA) on Saturday arrested
a woman at the Murtala Muhammed
International Airport in Lagos, for
allegedly attempting to smuggle 1.72kg of
cocaine into the country.
The 41-year suspect, Dorothy Onyekasi
who was travelling on an Emirates flight
from Dubai reportedly feigned pregnancy
in an attempt to get the drugs through
customs but was intercepted during a
screening of inbound passengers. This was
confirmed in a statement issued and
signed by the agency’s spokesperson, Mr
Mitchell Ofoyeju.
“The National Drug Law Enforcement
Agency (NDLEA) on Saturday arrested a
woman at the Murtala Muhammed
International Airport, Lagos, who faked
pregnancy with wraps of substances
suspected to be cocaine.
“The drug was intercepted during the
inward screening of passengers on an
Emirates flight from Dubai, United Arab
Emirates.”
“The substance has a total weight of 1.720
kilogrammes with an estimated street
value of N20.6 million.”
“I am a business woman living in Lagos. I
am separated from my husband who left
me with three children. I travelled to
Dubai to buy goods. While I was preparin
to return, I met a man in Dubai who gave
me the drug and promised to give me
enough money to expand my business
“He also told me that when I get to
Nigeria, he will call his partner to collect
the drug and give me my money.”
“It is all my fault, If only I was contented
with the profit from the sales of my goods;
I would not have been in this problem.”
