Dangote Group has injected N1 billion into Nigeria’s education sector, a statement from the conglomerate has said.

According to the statement, Katsina State University got a donation of N200 million from the sum while N500 million was given for the development of Bayero State University Business School in Kano.

Funding was also provided for the construction of a 500 student capacity hostel complex of the University of Science and Technology, Wudil; gave N118 million for a squash complex project at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka main campus and donated N50 million to the University of Port Harcourt.



To assist with the smooth take-off of the proposed Otuoke University in Bayelsa State the group donated N100 million.



Dangote Group has also introduced an academy which runs a special training school for graduate engineers.

Haruna Adinoyi, the Head of the Dangote Academy, while speaking with newsmen at the academy’s premises in Obajana, Kogi State said the school also runs vocational training for diploma graduates. He added that the students are retrained for 12months so that they could be employable in the Dangote Industries.



“As it is now most of our graduates are not employable. We want them to be grounded. This is part of our contributions to this country,” he said.

Thirty fresh graduates from engineering fields are currently undergoing a one year intensive training at the Dangote Academy.

^^^ The Tuareg are nomads,they claim a large area of land as theirs. Do you think its fair to hand them these area of land at the expense of other tribes that live there, even though their population is very little.

ow11: I don't know why we Africans are intent on staying in European contraptions. We have existed for thousands of years in our Kingdoms doing no worse than our European contemporaries until the last 100 years. Where we have spent most of our time fighting senseless tribal wars and spewing hate instead of remaining or resorting to our previous kingdoms and focus our energies on harnessing our potentials.

I support this Tuareg movement and I suggest most West and Central African countries need to split along ethnic lines until we find economic stability then we can do the AU a la EU thing.

The Tuaregs are marginalised and have barely seen any form of government presence for a very long time.


Ethiopia, Sudan and now Mali. One day Nigeria, DRC, Somalia and even Senegal would split to form working countries. We are fiercely tribal and this indirect rule by the Europeans certainly cemented it. They have made us love our ethnic origins even more as evidenced by many of the NL respondents who open silly threads glorifying a kinsman's achievement as a reason why their tribe is superior. That sentiment is shared by a majority of Africans.

That superiority complex should be channeled to National supremacy where it would be beneficial as opposed to the current situation where it causes nepotism, poverty and conflict.

What is AU and ECOWAS stands on the Tuareg rebellion in the north? For me this a bigger problem than the Malian coup. If this Tuareg rebellion is not crushed it will definitely spill over to neighbouring countries.

The point I am trying to raise is that the Edo state monthly allocation is not enough to pay for civil servants salary and pensions,not to talk of road, drainage constructs and repair. As for the internal revenue generation, your guess is as good as mine

1 The Federal Government should not stop funding universities in Nigeria.
2 The FG and Universities will have to provide something like merit scholarships, loans, etc.(when the funds start coming in)
3 Most top rated universities in the world gets funds from gov.and private sector to function effectively.
