Controversial Nigerian singer, Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has stirred reactions online following his bold statement on the reported death of former Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari.
In a viral video, Portable linked the ex-president to the tragic Lekki Toll Gate shooting during the #EndSARS protests, claiming Buhari was the one who gave the alleged order to open fire on protesters not the current president, Bola Tinubu.
The singer’s remarks, especially his controversial prayer, have sparked widespread backlash and debate across social media, with many Nigerians criticizing his choice of words.
Portable is known for his unfiltered views and often stirs controversy with his outspoken personality. His latest comments continue that trend, prompting a new wave of mixed reactions online.

What's all these? I thought there was no shooting at the toll gate? Na wa oO, Portable don turn IPOB
Who told you that dieing at an old age is the only mark of a blessed life? Mad and foolish people also live long. Many great people died at "young" age. It's the life you lived (legacy) and your standing with your maker that count.
U better don't come back n play safe when u need northerners vote in 2027
With each passing day I keep seeing reasons y u people should never near presidency.
Haba.....God bless those who kept it away from u
Yea. The sheep thought by messing up her tail, that she is punishing her owner. Not knowing that she is in deep shit. It was from your people that I heard about epi pawa for the first time. Proving that bad governance and hardship are respecters of no tribe. You guys have been ruling Nigeria for decades, and yet , nothing changed positively.
Dcaliphate: He just killed his already dying career in the movie industry. No matter how true you don't comment carelessly on sensitive matters like these
Which career are you talking about? It's sentiments like yours that have kept Africa in darkness till date. If everybody starts playing safe at critical moments, how would the desired change come? This culture of mindless "respect" for leaders that have kept Africa underdeveloped (through corruption and incompetency) should die in Africa for us to be liberated as a people.
Who told you that dieing at an old age is the only mark of a blessed life? Mad and foolish people also live long. Many great people died at "young" age. It's the life you lived (legacy) and your standing with your maker that count.
seunmsg: Make e try go Onitsha too so that he can showcase the city Peter Obi turned to Dubai to the rest of the world. No be only Tinubu Lagos dey Nigeria.
What about Ibadan and Oshogbo, abi those ones no follow for SW? Una de boast with a city wey de whole Nigeria contribute build.
9jatriot: Yet in spite of all that, the amount of insults the man got was just too much.
The reality for President Buhari was that despite incurring massive debts to fund the fuel subsidy, he remained a constant target of public insults and accusations of economic failure.
This predicament suggests a strategic calculation by President Tinubu: since a leader is likely to face continuous criticism regardless of the subsidy's status, it is more pragmatic to endure the immediate backlash of its removal and, in turn, reap the significant fiscal benefits of reduced borrowing and currency stability.
This approach, while initially painful, aims to avoid the double bind of accumulating astronomical debt while still being perpetually insulted. It was a case of "damned if you do, damned if you don't" dilemma that Nigerian leaders face with the fuel subsidy. It's about weighing the immediate political cost against the long-term economic consequences.
Buhari was moved by passion, Tinubu is an accountant and knows how to deal with numbers more.
We keep running around circles in Nigeria. The problem of Nigeria is not subsidy but the massive corruption that surrounds the petroleum industry. Tell me what exactly has changed for the better since the removal of the so called subsidy?
georgeakins: Stop justifying criminalities simplly because the woman is from your South East.
How did you know that the woman was from the south east? There's no where in the report where the native name or the part of Nigeria where the woman came from was mentioned. Unless Lagos is now a South Eastern state. Secondly, how or where did I justified her actions?
Melagros: COMRADES, these bad guys/eggs will not stop tarnishing our image abroad
But it's okay to do the crime in Nigeria and have criminal and fantastically corrupt leaders abi? Have you heard of a whitewashed tomb before? Since una refused to fix your country, other people go do am for una.
I don't know some people always post unnecessary things online
Leave am , when hand touch am now. Him people go shout racism. He is comparing a land in a rural municipality to a what is found in major cities in Africa. I bet that there's no highway in the US that's in that state. But in Africa, some major highways are death traps.
AMINDA: How much money is your life worth? Serving in the military is not a paid job because you can never be paid enough. It's the only career where you pledge your life in service to the country. It's the ultimate form of sacrifice but I know you can't relate, and it's okay. Goodbye!
People join the US, Canadian and even the Russian militaries for the perks of the job. Buhari wasn't forcefully conscripted into the military, it was his choice of career. And you are telling me a Nigerian joined the military because of his belief in Nigeria.
I am not callous and heartless like many who because of tribe vote in wicked men into power. These men at the national level have caused so much pain and ruined several lives by their policies and maladministration Such men shouldn't be celebrated...
AMINDA: The masses? The "majority" of Nigerians disagree with you but it's okay for the minority to have their say. Buhari did not expend any money on himself or healthcare that he hasn't earned by right or doesn't deserve. He began to serve Nigeria as a young soldier at the age of 19 and did so until his death. He bled and sweated for the country. What have you done for the country?
I guess while "servings" Nigeria he was not paid? A coupist who was among those that ruined Nigeria as a nation. A man who was among those who overthrew a civilian government. Someone chose the military as an occupation and you want to make something else out of it. Is it only those that that are in the military that are serving Nigeria? What about the civil servants in the local governments whose lives were wrecked by the military and the politicians?
AMINDA: One man's freedom fighter is another man's terrorist. Buhari is a cult figure in the North and remained so until the day of his death. You're free to have your opinions about him but let it remain your opinion. The young soldiers who killed Sardauna and Balewa thought they were doing the country a favour but the outcome of that singular action proved how wrong they were.
Having a cult figure and good intentions for your region doesn't translate to good leadership at the national level. My singular opinion may not be enough to change anything, but the opinion of the masses which I am rechoing is what matters. He spent our "national cake". Even the money spent looking after him in the London clinic wasn't his personal money. If he spent my money (our collective patrimony), I am entitled to and should have an opinion about him.
Those northerners that were rejoicing at the news of his death, I guess they were from the south east? Is time you Africans start holding your leaders, especially those at the national level accountable and stop playing the tribal card all the time.
AMINDA: Well, Buhari’s head has always been strong. He outlived majority of those who wished him dead during his presidency. Many were significantly younger than he was.
People die, young and old. It's what you did while alive that will determine how you would be remembered. Even the holy Bible said that there are shouts of joy when a wicked man dies.
Refinedbeing: LOL. From his English it’s so easy to tell how bitter of a person he is. Every soul will surely taste death. Funnily enough, no one knows who’s next.
So? Ex-president Buhari made life terrible for many Nigerians. So, I wonder why the same people he made their lives miserable should mourn him. I honestly don't understand you people.
hrykanu231: Please explain how a revenue generating point for nature based tourism is a “draining project”
Which tourism are you talking about? Having a few hundred people visit in a year doesn't make a project viable. You need hundreds of thousands of foreign visitors or a booming local economy. And both are lacking. If you were foreign, hearing all about the shit happening in Nigeria, would you visit?
Softmirror: When the cruel cashless policy was rolled out by the then CBN governor. He got the total support of a certain kind of people because these kind of people thought it will hinder Tinubu in a way from achieving his ambition to become president. These people jubilated and danced and were so happy for the policy showing total support despite the devastating effects which very much the inevitable consequences that was more than it's merits. It is still these same people that are raining curses on Buhari and celebrating his death.
Yea. Those people you are accusing of hypocrisy were also those he sent the military to kill many of their people and made derogatory remarks about their region. You still expect those people to mourn him? Buhari understood how much he has messed up and decided to redeem himself. Unfortunately, he failed. You want people to celebrate and support failure or what exactly? I was among those who supported him during the elections because we believe he has a good heart. Till today I am been mocked for that choice. Like someone said up there, leadership is not by heart but by results.
RoyalUc: "...The protesters were shouting, “We are not going to Anioma, we no go gree.”
"...He asked us what the problem was and we told him in plain language that we didn’t want to join Anioma State with Asaba people."
Today, some people are trying to force the Anioma people to join the who didn't want to join them. What an irony!
And I guess you didn't read the reason he gave for that? Go back and read...read the 7th paragraph. The resistance was from the market union (OMATA), for economic reasons. It wasn't championed by politicians.
nairalanda1: YOu want to know why our leaders die in UK hospitals?
Because UK citizens pay very high taxes, and yes, it is not like they like paying it or they can afford it...for their NHS, and as a result, they have superior hospitals.
You are asking for UK level hospitals on a health budget of 2-3 billion dollars....i dey laff. UK health spending is probably at least 200 billion dollars...or somehwere around 250 billion dollars. And you Nigerians want us to have UK type hospitals on 2-3 billion dollars budget.
Also, UK runs an industrial and diversified economy. Nigeria? The oil we produce can sustain a country of 10 million people....not 200 million people.
Ok o. There is realistic, and there is dreaming.
You guys, we should vote serious leaders, not people like buhari, obi, tinubu , gej and obasanjo. Leaders who will diversify our economy.
You are trying to justify the unjustifiable. It was a British Prime Minister that said your country is fantastically corrupt. I guess you don't know what the means. You want more taxes, what of accountability? What have you guys down with your oil revenues? You loot, loot, and even loot what was budgeted for state house clinic. How much would it cost to build and maintain a standard hospital? The new coastal highway, how much is it? The railroad that was built to Niger Republic, how much was it again? Since you claim that you guys have no money.
Btw, tell me the industries that are in Qatar, UAE, etc that made them what they're today?
madridguy: Thank you Sai Baba for your great sacrifice for our darling country.
Which sacrifice? International media will carry the news, " former Nigerian president dies in a London clinic". I guess that will bring honor to Nigeria? Since he couldn't build a single hospital during his 8 years reign that could look after him and his cronies. What a shame.
SouthSouth1914: Maybe they were never put ON from The aircraft’s last flight! This like turning off your fuel switch on generators. But it will start in the next time you put it ON. But will go off after some some seconds because the fuel switch wasn’t turned ON for flow of fuel.
The maintenance crew of that aircraft should be investigated, to get to know the truth. There might be an important person or two in that aircraft who people of interests to other people, there is a conspiracy!
Just my personal opinion.
I don't think so. Most equipment that are automated have limit switches and permissives that must be met before the equipment can be safely run. I don't expect lest of an expensive equipment like an airplane.
