It's rather you who is ignorant.

Black Americans have white DNA in them, but are they considered Europeans? No, they aren't.
We have South Yemen DNA in us, by majority percentage of our DNA is Cushitic. So we are Cushitic or "Cushitic/Arab" if that makes you happy.
Don't compromise your position man. Ethiopians, even the Semetic speaking Ethiopians are Cushitic like the rest of the horn Africans from Kenya to Sudan.

The admixture in our tribes is not recent. It occurred around 10,000 years ago so the admixture predates the Arabic speaking people. They can keep their ignorant views to themselves.

People are just stupid to assume that because of our close proximity to the Arabian peninsula, that we are Arab bastardd children who invaded Africa. It's one of the things that annoys the life out of me when interacting with other Africans. It's like we have to prove our African-ness to them and they have the right to judge who's African enough and who's not.

To the ignorant people ruining the thread, go read a damn book for once in your lives!

That's beside the point I was trying to make, but still the towers carry the name - Hass Towers and isn't Jabavu Village a subsidiary of Hass petroleum? Mahat Noor of Jabavu Village is certainly Somali.

No, I'm not. I'm Amhara, born and raised in Addis. If you know Addis very well, my home is in Bola town.

If he was born in Dire Dawa, then, I think, he should be called Djibouti-Ethiopian, rather than Djibouti-Somalian you saying.

If I ask, what is the difference between Somalians and Djiboutians people?
I know Bole Mikael. Is that the same place as Bola Town?

His ethnicity is Somali thus making him a Djiboutian national of Somali descent. It's the same way that the Oromo people that are born in Somalia are Somali Oromo.

I'd like to think of Djibouti as a melting pot in the horn of Africa. You've got native Afar people who stretch into Eritrea and Ethiopia, they make up around 35% of the population and then you have the Somalis who make up 60% of the population. The remaining 5% are Amhara, Arab, French and Indian.

The difference between Somalis from Somalia and Djiboutian Somalis is probably the dialect and clan family, although the Djiboutian Somali clan also lives in Ethiopia and Somalia.

Kikuyus own a huge chunk but you never hear them say how much they own Kenya. Kenyan Asians are far more successful than Somalis and you dont see them yapping around. But Somalis however, especially those ones from Somalia and have never set foot in Kenya talk too much. Some of them disgust me mate

You are really hard to get very basic things, i guess its due to the hard headed nature of Nigerians and just being slow. Somali is a race, while Somalia is a country, a Somalian is a Somilia national citizen. The same way there is a Kenyan Oromo and an Ethiopian Oromo national. Hass towers is owned by a Kenyan Somali not a Somalian citizen
As a son of a Djiboutian Somali and a Somali from Somalia, I know that being Somali doesn't automatically mean that you're from Somalia. I'm not disputing that the owners are Somali at all, I was reaffirming it. The comment was in reference to the poster who said there are no significant companies in Kenya apart from First Community Bank.

PissedYagami:
Kikuyus are by far more successful than Somalis in terms of business here in Kenya. And for the record those Somalis are Kenyans not from Somalia mate. Here is the map of Kenyan tribes. The green area, that is somali region of Kenya, oh and Hati13 and Ednite, the single biggest Ethiopian tribe, the Oromo also occupies a huge area in Kenya.
Tl;dr. Somalis in Kenya are native, not foreigners and those small names in the green region are Somali clans.
Nobody is disputing the business acumen of the Kikuyu mate. Read the comment I quoted and my comment then you'll see where I'm coming from.

Btw I know of the ethnic territories in Kenya. I've been to the NEP, Nairobi and a few other cities.

TayserMahiri:
First, why were Somalis attempting to conquer Abbysinia. Doesn't that tell you a lot about the nature of your people?
So you show up even more ignorant than before and this time you refuse to read the post you're replying to.. Amazing! The Somali/Muslim states were vassal states of Abyssinia until people had enough of the Abyssinian kings murdering the Muslim amirs and sultans. That tells you that human nature is to push back when you're driven to the edge.

TayserMahiri:
Secondly, you couldn't hold on to your conquer for long, don't give excuses, its easy to tell why. Disagreements over nothing.
Are you seriously alluding that Somalis didn't get pushed out of the conquered Abyssinian territory by Portugal and Abyssinia, but because of internal clan conflicts? Are you also suggesting that Cristovao da Gama who was the son of the famous Vasco da Gama wasn't captured in battle and killed by the Somali forces? Even if we were pushed out, the Abyssinian-Adal wars changed the face of the conflict forever. We went from being an oppressed Muslim minority to a regional powerhouse.

TayserMahiri:
Thirdly, how did the 77-78 war end? I can almost bet you got a serious @ss kicking from Ethiopia.
We actually managed to steamroll the Ethiopian forces till we reached Harar, which is less than 100 miles from the capital city with minimal losses. At that point the Soviet Union, South Yemen and Cuba intervened and that was the end of the war.

https://i.imgur.com/EeJXRFK.png

TayserMahiri:
Fourthly, Ethiopia never attempted to colonize anyone, if they wanted, there were other weaker states next to them that they could have gone to. I'm certain they were trying to curtail your sense of ego and contempt for all people who are not muslim.
When you don't understand something, it's best to get rid of any preconceived notions and let the actual fact do the talking, because right now you're actually talking out of your backside. I'm pretty sure you knew nothing of the Adal sultanate before my post and yet you are shifting the blame on them, saying that they hated non-Muslims. It is humorous to read that, considering the sultanate in question had been a vassal state of the Christian kingdom for around 600 years prior to the wars.

If Somalis had any contempt for non-Muslims at that time why was there a massive cathedral in downtown Mogadishu and more than 50,000 Christians(mainly from the Italian community) in the country?

If Ethiopia had never attempted to colonise anyone, why did "Emperor" Haile Selassie (you don't attain such a title without an empire which includes conquered territory) specifically ask the British Empire to hand him the Somali Haud and Ogaden regions which would later on be the cause of the 1977-78 war? Why was he vocal about 'uniting' Somalia and Ethiopia under His rule? Why did Ethiopia attack Somalia mere 3 years after its independence? So much for a peace loving pacifist empire eh..

There's no point of arguing just for the sake of it. There is no doubt the Somali people have had it bad for the past 25 years, but to portray them like a useless, all-evil bogeymen is just laughable, as if we didn't stop internal African wars, fund African freedom fighters in Zimbabwe and South Africa plus much more. But you want to know what's even more laughable? It is to say Somalis don't conquer anything when we hold the largest territory of any ethnicity in Africa stretching to well over 1 million square km and 4 countries. I'm guessing we just magically appeared into a large swathe of land pfft (sarcasm).

Lol, that's funny about being mod of the romance section instead of culture section. I'll reconsider where I'll mod for in the future and put romance on the top of my list. ROFL nice one bro

The Western world has a way of trying to make Africans feel inferior with brainwashing. I'm glad that you learned so much and educated yourself so that you had enough artillery to put your teachers in their respective places. The African continent has a plethora of bright and great cultures. The people are very happy and free.

It is my opinion that you don't get the same amount of freedom in any other continent. I've lived in the United States before so I wholeheartedly know exactly where you are coming from. Africans should never feel inferior because a lot of Western media (especially U.S. media) is fabricated and made up.

Germany has a lot of issues, I agree. I'm aware of how they treat Turkish people there, so I know exactly how they would treat Somalis.

Always take heart and pride in your culture.

My other piece of advice for you is also know to place yourself beneath the feet of a beautiful woman.

Now, do you see why Ethiopian Somalis dislike the Ethiopian name.. When you look beyond what the Somali troll posts here, it is unfathomable how Somalis are painted as the all-evil people here. People love to ignore the fact that the whole Abyssinia vs Somali/Muslim conflict started when the Abyssinian rulers killed countless Somali Amirs in vain, although the Amirs were paying tribute to the Abyssinian kings. These cold blooded murders carried on up until the Muslims (Somalis and Hararis) had enough and fought back. You people are lying to themselves if you believe the country of Ethiopia isn't an extended version of the Abyssinian Kingdom. The only Kingdom in Africa that actively took part in the division and so-called 'scramble for Africa' with the white Europeans.

TayserMahiri:
P.S I am liking Ethiopian history. Sort of like Africa's Ancient Greece. I knew Somalis can't conquer any serious matter given how they disagree with themselves on almost everything.
I won't even address your pathetic shot at Somalis when you're this ignorant. You ought to educate yourself on East African history. The Adali forces consisting of Somalis and Hararis had conquered most of Abyssinia within the space of 4 years until they begged the Portuguese to come and save them. The Adal-Abyssinian wars continued until the Oromo expansion paused it for 5 centuries. The Ethiopian-Somali 1977-78 war was just another episode of a series of wars and skirmishes going back almost 1000 years.

Bro I wasn't always so interested in my culture/people. In my early teens, I had a major inferiority complex because in Germany unless you are an ethnic-German, you're only German by paper. Despite being born here, there was always something missing. Our teachers boasted about their millennia-long history, their traditions, achievements and etc. whilst the white German kids listened with wide-eyed infatuation and pride. All I saw of my country of origin was war poverty, not knowing that it wasn't always like that. I visited the motherland during those years and just fell in love with everything; songs, dances, culture, the country and history. I came back to Germany and taught my teachers and classmates a lesson or two about the mighty Somali people beyond the days of the civil war cool

I can't wait to move outta this state, wallahi, but that'll just have to wait a couple years. Def glad your project is working out for you. When r u set as of now?

I tell ya, from my experience in Misr, I legit predicted the NYE thing long before we heard tell of it on the news.

Anyway, remember how I told you long ago that I'd never heard your name before, ever? Well, I met someone named Artan for the first time a couple months ago at a wedding he was attending from out of state. He'd never heard my name before, either, lol. I got the occasional, "You mean, Mariam?", I sometimes get from some folks.

Somali is actually harder for me to comprehend when sung, lol. They don't use "normal" words in songs, do they? Or is it just me? Wallahi, I'll go whole songs catching only a few words here and there sometimes.

Anyway, someone introduced me to this cover not too long ago. I quite like it. You might.

Why do you have to wait two years to move out of state if you don't mind me asking? Studies? How's it going with the leg and the raccoon smell? tongue

The project is officially set to launch in a couple of years. The delay is down to lack of capital so we're working and saving the money we need from our pay. We have been told by potential investors that we won't receive any funding unless we have something to show for it. That's why we're financing it ourselves in the beginning and hoping for future investment from them once it takes off.

The short ones across the sea from us are exactly the same as the ones in Misr. Their brain goes in complete meltdown when they see a woman. It doesn't matter if she's covered or not. I didn't expect they'd go full retard in public though smh.

Artan is a rare name but I understand his surprise lol, I'd never come across your name before I cyber-met you. Remember how I even guessed my way to its meaning? grin

I feel your pain, I used to listen to Somali music because of their eccentric sound at one point. Now I can understand the gist of most verses just by listening more and even looking up the meaning of certain words before singing it.

The song is nice but it sounds like a mix of Somali and Arabic or is it sung in a different dialect? Only the hook sounds proper Somali to mehuh

It's hard man not be somewhat submissive when the African continent has so many beautiful women gosh!!!!!! Of course in person I pretend not to be submissive to beautiful women, but deep down I just want to worship them. In any case, I must stop now.

There is nothing wrong flirting with an older woman bro. In fact, I think you will gain knowledge and wisdom from her. Also, don't sell yourself short. Guys leagues above you? What makes them leagues above you? Their salary? Know that someday you will surpass them and possibly even earn more than them.

All you have to do one day, is bring her some very nice Somali cuisine, maybe some very nicely cooked sauteed Goat meat, with a nice sweet rice, bring some Fanta or orange juice (I assume you don't drink I don't as well), and bring her some Horn seductive music. Have a seat with her (not too close at first though), dress well, buttoned shirt, perhaps some decent pants and start a conversation with her. Make sure you smile a lot, and show her your charm. You have to know how to be romantic with women bro (although I am the last person to ask for advice on this sort of thing because when I start talking to women sometimes I forget how to speak English if she's extremely attractive and start muttering some stuff in Fulfulde).

Ali Farka Toure is one of my favourite musicians and like you said, in this genre of desert music, he's amazing. But there are so many amazing artists in this Sahel genre from West to East Africa. This song for example is from West Africa, but similar style let me know what you think. I"m surprised you couldn't hear that Shubahada Somali song. It's become one of my faves:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ewmMHJ6IBD4
Lmao @ deep down I want to worship them. A bit too much maybe? grin grin

About that lady, you're killing me with that advice LOL I have to be realistic bro. Imagine it backfires on me.. Never mind horn Africans/Africans, we're the only non ethnic Germans in the building. Shitt would get so awkward between us, therefore, I'm gonna stick to women who are on my level. I can't let my Johnny influence my decision-making lool.

That;s a nice song btw, it reminds me of this area in the far north east corner of Somalia. The place was covered in date farms, and the last night I was there, the owners of the farms and the workers invited me to their tent. We had some food, Somali traditional dances, and some guy remastering old Somali classics whilst playing the Oud. Everything was on point and it was by far the best night I had in Somalia.

Legs and Feet are the perfect combination and I have now learned (though I won't tell this to my other African brothers besides you since you understand), that a man's place is beneath a woman. Why haven't you tried talking to this Ethiopian lady? I'm sure she would like you. If I were there, I would probably forget would not even remember how to speak. Shiny legs my gosh, sounds like a Goddess walahi!

If you don't talk to her bro, I'll be upset with you. smiley

With that said, both songs are very beautiful. I don't understand Somali, but I've always loved the Oud and instruments that sound a lot like the Oud. I really love Stringed instruments and the way they are played all over the African Sahel from Senegal to Somalia (and even in Sudan). The first song was really soothing and relaxing. The woman has a very beautiful voice. Bless these African queens!

To answer your second question, it was an offensive comment made towards you, so I hid it.
Bro I've got to stop you there lol grin grin don't turn into a submissive man because of your foot fetish. I don't flirt with her because not only is she 10 years older than me, but she's also well established and dates guys way above my league lol not gonna embarrass myself. She did welcome me nicely when I first moved in though, the horn African love is still there. We are just good friends and neighbours.

The Oud instrument is amazing when it is played properly. Talking about string instruments, I'm a big fan of Ali Farka Toure, he was a legend in this genre.
The first song is one of my mother's favourite songs of all time.

Just as I changed the song, the Kaban intro of Ma Jinba by Maandeeq starts and I remember Nairaland and a humorous exchange I once had with @EnlightenedSoul. I can't help but smile as I recall our discussion regarding Fourshit, Ahmed Najis (joke tongue ) and our parents' favourite artists.

This led me to funny memories of @Ajuran's shenanigans, @Fulaman198's foot fetish, @Adamskutty's hate for Ghanaians and newly invented words such as 'charcant'.
I get up and reach for the laptop. Let me see what Rer Nairaland is up to...

Here I am folks, it has indeed been a long while. How are you all doing?

In this hypothetical war, all the US and it's allies need to do is place sanctions on China. Most of China's top 10 export partners are US friendly nations and it would result in yearly losses of up to 2-3 trillion USD.
