Nowenuse: I never knew of indigenous Somali scripts. Which ones? There was an old pre-Islamic one (I'll post the pictures later) and then the wadaad script which was a Somalized Arabic alphabet. Then there was the Kadarre, Osmanya and Borama scripts that sprung up after the collapse of the major Somali states like Adal, Geledi/Ajuran and the Mijjerteyn sultanate. |

Hbuyosh: Cmon, that young man' s shooting was a pure accident. I dont think there was foul play, who within th ruling circle would have wanted that young man dead?
Looking at the circumstances tgat led to the shooting.....there is nothing to indicate foul- play. I don't know man. Abbas Siraji represented hope and change. Millions of youngsters who are disillusioned with the incompetence of the elders looked up to him and people like him. His death raised many questions and I truly believe that it wasn't accidental. Most likely it was some fat cat in Mogadishu that paid off the soldier to get rid of him, just like they did with Sada Ali Warsama. |

Nowenuse: So, does this mean that most younger somalis can no longer write Somali in the arabic script? That's right. It was abolished in the 70s. It was a good decision, but we should have used one of our many scripts instead of using the Latin one. Most young Somalis don't speak Arabic either. The only reason why I speak it is because of my parents who are both fluent in it. |
Foreign Affairs › Re: Kenya Is Ahead of Nigeria In All Aspect (Facts Don't Lie) by ArtanK(m): 6:47am On May 26, 2017 |
Nowenuse: Most somalis speak it and even somali language is also written in the arabic script. Likewise hausa. Actually most Somalis don't speak Arabic. They can understand it to some degree, read and write it because Somali kids attend madrassah in their early years. Somalis speak basic Arabic at best and the language was written in the Arabic script for almost 1000 years, but that changed in the 70s when the Somali government decided to adopt the Latin script. |

TayserMahiri: Bro, I have no contempt of Somalis. When they killed their youngest politician Abbass Siraji, I just kind of gave up completely !! Really. I have said severally here that Kenyan Somalis are cool, I am even a big fan of Amina Mohammed. But those in Somalia? Siraji was a sign of future possiblities and his death being an accident made no sense at all. Anyway, good to hear they are making investments and I hope the best for them. The killing of Siraji was tragic, but the end goal is way bigger than him. I truly believe some fat cat paid off the soldier that committed the crime. His death and the deaths of 1 million other Somalis that have died since the civil war started have not been in vain. A 26 year blip won't hurt us in the long run. |

TayserMahiri: Bro, I don't think you will be so lucky. Somalia has work to do Judging from your previous comments and the way you speak of even your Somali Kenyans with contempt, it's quite clear that you prefer the status quo. No one's denying that Somalia has work to do. Muafrika and I were talking about a united Kenyan Somali people.. But as I said, our main obstacle is getting rid of Al Shabaab and then afterwards we can tackle clannism. I just came back from Somalia and I've observed how things are unfolding with the new government in place. The country is no longer classed as a failed state, it is signing multi-billion dollar business and trade contracts with foreign nations, so it won't be long till Somalia regains it's dignity and respect in the world stage. |

Muafrika2: That was the figure over 10 years ago. I suspect it's bigger too. May be in Somalia and Ethiopia where there is abit of a disturbance. Kenyan Somalis have been at rest.
It may cause the Somalis to look at themselves as one and needing each other, which they will have to do to get those votes for their candidate, and most likely, be in league with another major tribe in terms of population. The Ethiopian census is out later this year. It will be interesting to see how much the population has grown since the last census. Somali solidarity has been absent since the civil war, it would be nice to see a united front at least once in my life time. |

Nowenuse: Why are you telling lies?
According to 2010 estimates Ghana was 71% christian and only 17% muslim. How close is that margin compared to Nigeria's 50/50 or even muslim domination? Stop exaggerating. Ghana's religious margin cannot close anytime soon, not even in the next 50 years.
Northern Nigeria is probably 10 times the size of northern Ghana, it is developed only in your eyes. Fewer areas of northern Nigeria are developed compared to it's large size. The monthly oil money allocation from Abuja is also used in developing the state capitals of all northern states. Nothing else. Thats interesting. It looks like Ghana is one of the only places in the world where the irreligious population is decreasing. |

Hati13: Slaverly had long history in Ethiopia just like in any other regions, so it's very difficult to know who started it.
The Abyssinians personality only sold slaves which are non-Christian. Christian and other slaves were sold by Arab merchants, Adals(Harar, Somalia and Afar) and other peoples. Adalis weren't sold as slaves, they were slave traders themselves. Especially the Afar, they captured and sold millions into slavery. |

obaaderemi: Much like the African Moors ruling southern Spain. How vibrant is the port of Adulis today? In Greek times it was quite great. I wish I could tell you. The closest I come to ancient Adulis is my mother being Djiboutian haha, I'm not Eritrean. However, my Eritrean friends told me that the ruins are preserved and taken care of. Massawa, which is a major port is right next door so I don't think anybody still uses Adulis. |

Hati13: If you guys claim Punt, then you must have been in present day Sudan, Eritrea said northern Ethiopia back then. Am I correct? Somali people were mostly present in the northern part of the horn back then. It was only later that we migrated southwards, but the area Punt ruled encompassed the northern Somali coast. A series of studies from 2010-2015, of which one of them set out to confirm the origin of the Puntite baboons sent to the Egyptian rulers, established that the Red Sea coast of Somalia was ruled by Punt. I think most parts of Sudan was ruled by Kush/Meroe and Egypt. |

Hati13: The absolute data for the rise of Axum isn't known, but Axum was first mentioned in a document in the mid first century. Because of this, it's agreed Axum was established in the first century A.D.
Before Axum, there was a great civilization called Damat. It was formed in 10 century BC. It territory was in modern day Eritrea and northern Ethiopia. It's thought that the civilization of Ethiopia was 3,000 years, but new evidences are now pointing in that it's rather 10,000 years.
Damat and Axum wasn't established by Sabaeans(southern Yemenite), rather by the locals Semiticized Agaw and other peoples. Geez language and alphabet wasn't driven from Sabaean, but rather from the local Semitic languages.
The original inhabitants of Eritrea and northern and central Ethiopia after 3rd millennium BC were Agaw and Afar peoples. Axum's history is fascinating. They conquered southern Yemen and large parts of modern day Saudi Arabia. Whenever Arabs get mouthy, I hit them with the Axumites ruling their land and they're left speechless |

Muafrika2: Yep. I was visiting Tana River years ago. They are mostly dark. Like other nilotes, but for the Somali looks. They share the county with pokomos. The women walk around with knives - I think its because of the tribal wars The knives thing is a Cushitic cultural thing. In rural Djibouti and Somalia, people legit walk around with daggers hanging off their belts of tied to their sleeves. You shouldn't be afraid. 1 - Beja from Sudan/Egypt 2 - Afar men (Eri/Ethio/Djibouti) 3 - Afar women (Eri/Ethio/Djibouti) 4 - Somali men

Muafrika2: There could be some truth in that. With improved medical care and facilities, Somali people are multiplying fast
I don't know and am apprehensive about how a Somali government would do. Especially due to religious differences. But they tend to be less corrupt so it may not be so bad We're 20-25 million worldwide, we're not that many. The populations outside of Somalia has been increasing steadily, what's holding us back are the terrorists massacring people and causing famines in the vital fertile regions. As soon as we manage to kick those out, our population will skyrocket. Tbh our problem has never be a religious one. It has always been clannism/tribalism and the nepotism that comes with it. (Hypothetically speaking) Perhaps ruling a multi-ethnic country would change all of that. |

CyrusTheGreat: One of Ethiopia's kings also forged an alliance with the Portuguese to fend off rabid muslim invaders that were constantly trying to invade and overrun the kingdom. Ethiopians were major targets of slavery for Muslim slavers, along with Cushites like Oromo and Somalians who were known as "red slaves" in contrast with the bantu-speaking "black slaves", and Muhammad multiple times in the Quran referred to Ethiopians as "raisin-heads" and treated them as inferior people to Arabs. Before the scramble for Africa, Ethiopia was a number one target for the Islamic imperialism of the Ottoman Empire and it's vassal states. Not only that but Ethiopia and it's historical sister Christian states along the southern Nile of Aksum and Makuria were constantly attacked by Caliphates and forced to give tributes of hundreds of black African slaves annually, but you wouldn't mention that about the country's muslim history would you you Saudi propagandist? Somalis have never been enslaved. There are a few cases of kidnapped individuals, but Somalis in general were never slaves of anyone and in most cases they were the slave merchants and enslavers. There are written accounts of Persian, Oromo, Bantu and even Indian slaves passing through the Somali ports. It is nothing to be proud of, but it's just the way the world worked back then, you either enslave people or you become the slave. |
