Politics › Re: Was Peter Obi Wrong To Have Contested The 2023 Presidential Election? by ashacot: 7:33am On Jun 28, 2023 |
QuotaSystem: Self consolation built on fallacies, upon the final realization of Obi’s non-existent mandate.
The North was not taught any lesson, you’re pretending to forget that our Northern governors willfully conceded the Presidential ticket to the South, which makes Tinubu’s Presidency a fulfilled agenda.
We were deliberate and intentional about a Tinubu Presidency for two main reasons:
1. The existence of Nigeria as it is. If we had backed a north-north Presidential transition, more southerners would be disillusioned at the concept of “one Nigeria” and would be drawn the ‘gospel’ of burgeoning secessionist forces. IPOB and Oduduwa agitators would have hijacked the sentiment of discontent for their agenda.
2. We knew Atiku neither had capacity nor track record of performance & was only an opportunistic, corrupt politician that couldn’t provide the kind of progressive governance that Nigeria sorely needs. Now we are in pole position for 2031 Presidency and have earned the trust/loyalty of our SW allies who have pledged to reciprocate in due course.
If it was the north’s intention to retain power, we would have voted en-bloc for PDP and the 2 million votes lead Tinubu enjoyed would have been non-existent and Atiku would have won the election.
In raw numbers crunched by TheCable Index, Tinubu beat Atiku in the north-west, scoring 2,652,824 votes compared to his opponent’s 2,197,824. Not only were Atiku’s margins in some of the states narrow, Tinubu took a whopping half a million votes in Kano alone. In fact, Tinubu got 30 percent of his total votes from the north-west alone. That is almost one-third.
Another fallacy is the notion that Obi had any chance to win the North Central. That is a notion that existed solely in the heads of typically politically naive obidients that didn’t realize that Niger, Kogi and Kwara are part of their presumed NC/middle belt, and would always vote alongside the NW. The remaining 3 NC states would always be split across parties. Obi didn’t stand a chance in the NC from the word go.
Furthermore, due to his affiliation & sympathies for IPOB terrorists that he never failed to defend, Obi didn’t stand any chance in the NW & NE either. Ever wondered why he had no choice but to appoint fellow Igbos as Campaign coordinators in core Northern states like Sokoto etc.?
The only region that has been taught and re-taught an important existential lesson is the South East; that any candidate can do without S/Eastern votes and still successfully emerge President. In fact going forward, Presidential candidates might consider Eastern campaigns as an avoidable, unnecessary expense.
This has been proven TWICE by a Northerner (PMB) and now a THIRD time by a fellow Southerner…. and an added lesson about the futility of “nzogbu-nzogbu” politics; that it’s impossible to win Presidential elections without building bridges across the country, as some Obidients erroneously thought before the polls. You nailed it |

Your prayer should be for Tinubu to appoint incompetent people from the north to flush out banditry and terrorism that Buhari created and not for selfish interest. I am Igbo and Buhari was never favorable to the north. He was fair and appointed people he can trust. Just like Tinubu has done. Fairness is never until Igbo or Hausa or Yoruba is appointed. Competence must first be considered. Jonathan did same thing. Yar Adua did same thing too. Including Obasanjo. |

Bluntguy: Wrong again! Did the Igbos not vote for MKO in 1993 when he contested against Bashir Tofa, a core Northerner? Look your assertion that Igbos and Yorubas normally vote against themselves is very wrong. The Igbos normally vote for who protects their interest no matter where you are coming from. The Yorubas even voted for Olu Falae against Obasanjo in 1999, Obasanjo was delivered by the rest of Nigerians, including the Igbos. Like you said, no ill intentions, but understand that the Igbos have never and will never play politics of hatred against anyone, the only thing people imagine is that if they do not support and tell you plain that you do not have their support, a lot of people see it as hatred. Buhari saw the non support of Igbos as hatred, but that is where Tinubu has a strong positive as a progressive. Buhari is never a progressive but Tinubu had to tolerate him for eight years in order to ascend the presidency, which he has finally done. Here we go again. Nigeria economy was doing fairly OK under Abacha and Abdusalam with prices of goods and services relatively stable. Inflation was low. Then the evil genus obasanjo came and prices of goods and service tripled. These is even with reliefs his government was getting from the international community. Kudos to him out GDP increased in percentage over a period, but that was necessitated largely by the an increase and relative stability in oil price and also the cancellation of our foreign debts. A gesture that we alongside many third world countries benefited from. Obasanjo was a disaster to Nigerians and set the tune to most of the Wong's in our institutions. Now, would you compare the resources available to Obasanjo to that available to Buhari? Resources available to both differ yet Obasanjo struggled to put necessary infrastructures in place. Yeah sometimes, I wished Buhari was even as dictatorial as obasanjo was as president who doesn't give recourse to the constitution all the time. Who know, PMB would have fought corruption to the level we all expected. Would Obasanjo have been able to navigate Nigeria through two all time oil price crash? Would he have navigate Nigeria through a world pandemic and a war that is currently ravaging the world and would take decade for the world to recover? Time will tell. |

Very useless write up.
Buhari was faced with by far Nigeria worse moments locally and internationally.
Nigeria suffered oil price crash to its all time low twice under president Buhari. The world suffered a disastrous pandemic that ravaged the world economy especially developing and under developed countries like Nigeria.
The war in Ukraine triple these suffering. Yet you all want Nigeria operate in isolation to the negative happenings across the world. I was expecting you to use your normal "even Ghana are doing better than Nigeria" rethorics . but alas, Ghana economy has collapsed and need a bail out to survive. Including south Africa economy.
While Bihar has his faults which include his failing to live up to expectations on security, it is ridiculous and wicked to see you all not considering the harsh conditions he worked under for 8-years.
And all your cry of Nepotism is just pyre nonsense. Buhari appointments were almost evenly distributed. So you all should spare us all those nepotism rubbish that you all kept quiet when previous governments followed similar path.
Why not compare the revenue available to Buhari and that of other administrations.
Buhari will go down in history as one of if not the best we have had since 1999 at least. |

I saw the interview Chimamanda has with arise TV and one can't help but applaud the genus she is. I listened to how she reacted to professor Soyinka's labelling Datti comment on our democracy a fascist.
Truth is, listening to chimamanda, you will see the Nigerian and African culture and values in her statements. Despite disagreeing with the SAGE, she respectfully disagree with the prof.
This is how it used to be in the Nigerian political space and other aspects until some elements polluted the Nigerian political atmosphere with insults, bullying, gaggling. It used to be very intellectual. We used to see seasoned professors and top scholars debating the Nigeria politician and economical positions without insults despite they are in different political divide.
We must learn from chimamanda. We know many expected her to throw insults at the SAGE like we have seen many doing, but the amazon gave a solid interview. Even if the SAGE doesn't agree with her position, he will be very proud of her conduct during the interview.
I hope we learn from chimamanda. You don't need to insult people to show your anger.

I saw this on a man's Facebook post and I felt I should share it here.
One day, An Igbo man will rule Lagos. And A Yoruba Man will rule Anambra. And a Yoruba man will rule Kano. And a Kastina man will rule Oyo.
Everyday, you claim you want Nigeria to be like Canada, USA, UK, AUSTRALIA, SWEEDEN, CHINA and other developed countries. But you are limiting your thought processes and have refused to adopt a lot of the pathways these countries adopted to be where they presently are.
Today, many Nigerians will vow never to allow anyone from a different state either win election in their state, govern their state or even get appointments in their state.
I saw how Africans especially blacks including people of Nigeria joined the "black lives matter" protest. And many who have never visited Nigeria will think Nigeria is a free country where freedom of expression is fully respected.
But dear tribalists and religious bigots, the aforementioned countries you want us to emulate are free countries. They are countries where everyone from different race who are eligible to participate fully in elections can contest and win elections there.
Nigerians has won tens of elective position in America, Canada, UK, USA, Australia and lots more. Many Nigerians has been appointed into key political and economic positions in these countries too. These fortune and freedom is not limited to only Nigerians in these countries, other countries' national has benefited too in these countries.
One day, In Nigeria, a different tribe man will rule a different state. Tribalists and religious bigots thinks it is not possible. But it will surely happen.
A Kenyan successfully ruled America for 8-years. And presently UK is being govern by an Indian as prime minister. A some day, Other African countries nationals who are eligible will take elective positions in Nigeria. And Nigerians too will do same over there.
And just like it didn't matter which religion govern those countries, especially in UK, it will not matter which religion govern Nigeria in any state. It may not happen in our generation, but it will happen soonest.
When it does, guess who will be the ultimate losers?
Tribalists and religious bigots.
What do you think of his predictions?
Good analysis but you overrated Obi in many states. He won't get 20% in Ondo State. Again, in this 2023 election, Ondo is not a swing state. Ondo State went for Buhari in 2015 despite having a PDP governor but lost to PDP when it had APC governor in 2019. The 2019 scenario came up because of people's hatred for Buhari, feud between the Adams Oshiomole leadership of the APC and the state governor when Oshiomole did not allow the governor to impose his preferred candidates on the party. All the loyalists of the governor contested under AA and that led to splitting of APC votes, PDP became the real beneficiary. But this time, APC is united for Asiwaju in Ondo State, Asiwaju is Yoruba, There are places in Ondo North where you can't mention Atiku because of the merciless ways the fulani herdsmen have dealth with them, 70% of PDP big guns in Ondo State are with the former governor Mimiko who is an arrowhead of Wike's G5. For instance Agboola Ajayi who is contesting for senate in Ondo South is a loyalist of the former governor. So Asiwaju will get nothing less than 55-60% in Ondo State, PDP 30%, LP 10%. LP can't defeat PDP in Bayelsa State, APC will get up to 40% in Rivers State.
Thanks for the update |

For ss,apc will beat pdp in crs and rivers, will beat lp in bayelsa and get 25% in aks. I am ok with se but for nc,labour will win plateau and Benue followed by apc.atiku will win bauchi but margin won't pass 10%.tinubu winning margin in yobe will be like borno own.tinubu will win kebbi narrowly and zamfara massively I think APC will win large in Osun state. In Bayelsa, I can't tell about that. In Rivers, I still believe both parties will struggle for second spot. But can't tell the difference. Remember Buhari is not on ballot, I still see PDP getting 25-30% there. I don't see labour winning plague and Benue |
