Boroffice denies sponsoring governorship aspirant against Akeredolu The senator representing Ondo North, Ajayi Boroffice, on Thursday denied media reports that he was sponsoring an aspirant for the 2020 governorship election in Ondo State. Boroffice, who had been elected for third term on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, was said to have shown no interest in contesting for governorship election next year. He said there was the need to resolve all the crisis rocking the party in the state He stated this in a statement, signed by the head of his media bureau office, Mr Kayode Fakuyi, on Thursday, in Akure, the state capital. The senator, in the statement, said though it was too early for politicians to be jostling for the ticket or the party for the 2020 election, he had no preferred candidate for the election. The statement, “Prof Boroffice believes the intense jostling for the APC governorship ticket in Ondo State is way too early. “Having had an unimpressive outing in the 2019 general elections, this is the time for all leaders, stakeholders and party members to unite for genuine reconciliation and re-energise the party.”

‘Buhari needs best hands for Next Level agenda’ The Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State, Mr Joe Igbokwe, has advised President Muhammadu Buhari on selection of ministers. In this interview with Assistant Editor LEKE SALAUDEEN, he speaks on the performance of the party at the 2019 poll, Igbo presidency, Federal Government presence in the Southeast and other sundry political issues. What was responsible for improved performance of the APC in Lagos during the governorship election? Lagos remains the stronghold of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Southwest. It is true that the margin between the APC and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the presidential election was narrow, compared to what we had in governorship poll. One major factor responsible for this was that some Yoruba pastors told their congregators not to vote for President Muhammadu Buhari whom they described as a killer and herdsman. Again, the Igbo in Lagos voted for Atiku Abubakar, because of his running mate, Peter Obi, who is an Igbo man. The Igbo told APC governorship candidate, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, that they would vote for him, but will vote Atiku/Obi in the presidential election. The APC believes in free and fair electoral process; we don’t influence results like the PDP used to do when they were in power. We believe that power belongs to the people and that every vote must count for our democracy to grow. Are you sure the Igbo in Lagos voted for the APC governorship candidate? Yes, they did. I and some Igbo leaders made humungous efforts to ensure they voted for the APC governorship candidate. We visited all markets where there is large concentration of Igbo people to sensitise them. Even, Senator Ifeanyi Uba joined us in the crusade. We told them that they stand to benefit a lot by pitching their tent with the ruling party. We have large population of Igbo in Lagos. They have their major investments in Lagos; they don’t have one-quarter of their investments here in Lagos in the Southeast. I don’t know how Lagos will look like if the Igbo decided to leave. This is why our host community should see Igbo as partners in progress and treat them well. Lagos is second home for Igbo. They spend 11 months in a year in Lagos. They travel home during Christmas and Easter celebrations. The Yoruba and Igbo have had good relations in the past. For instance, it was in Lagos that Igbo properties were kept and returned to them during and after the civil war, even with the rents collected on them. It also happened in the North, but not the South-south. Igbo property is said to be abandoned in the South-south. Professor Wole Soyinka, a Yoruba man braved the odds to visit Biafra during the war and came back to tell the Federal Government to stop the carnage being perpetrated by the Nigerian soldiers. He was put in jail for this. The kind of loyalty and service that late Chief Adeniran Ogunsanya offered the late Dr. Nnamdi Azikwe was unprecedented. When the killers of the late Head of State, Major General Aguiyi-Ironsi, surfaced during his state visit to Ibadan, the capital of the old Western Region, his host, the Military Governor, the late Col. Adekunle Fajuyi, told them if you must kill him in my domain you have to kill both of us. Fajuyi sacrificed his life for national unity. These are the things that cemented our relations. It didn’t start today. When Zik returned from overseas, he started his political career in the Western Region. The Southeast is small in population, because Igbo don’t stay at home. They move to anywhere they can find fortune. Igbo are mobile businessmen. You will find them in Kaduna, Kano, Jos, Ghana, South Africa, Canada, South America,Asia, Europe, United States, etc. The Igbo voted massively for Atiku/Obi during the presidential election. Don’t you think that this will affect the quest for Igbo presidency in 2023? I told them, if you want to produce President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in 2023, work with Hausa/Fulani/Yoruba alliance. I had expected them to vote the APC, so that they can have a shot at presidency in 2023. After the civil war, no Igbo man has ruled this country. I told them to play politics of inclusion but they voted PDP thinking Atiku will win. What will happen in 2023? It is not yet concluded. There could be a compromise for the sake of national unity. The Igbo are not happy with their present status in the country. It is only the Southeast that has five states. With that we have smaller number of representatives in the National Assembly and the federal allocation to the region is small, compared to other zones. In Canada, a small group of people called Quebec with less than 10 per cent of the total population produced the current Prime Minister of Canada. They are French-speaking people. The President of Rwanda is a Tutsi, an ethnic group with less than 10 per cent population of Rwanda. It is possible for Nigerians to sit down and say the Southeast is not happy, let’s have a presidential candidate from the zone for the sake of equity, justice and fairness. In addition, create additional state for the zone. If this happens, the agitation for Biafra will vanish. But, the Southeast is clamouring for the Deputy Senate President of the 9th assembly. Is it feasible? Who among them will be considered for Deputy Senate President? There is no APC ranking senator from the Southeast. You can’t eat your cake and have it. Anyway, we can bend the law for the sake of unity. Our national leaders may say let’s have compromise for the sake of peace, because when there is peace there will be development. Professor Harold Laski of the London School of Economics said politics is superior to economy. Politics should not be left to politicians alone. We are not making progress because of bad politics. Can we say there is no more division in Lagos APC? There is none. APC has a deep structure in Lagos. It is maintained throughout by hard working people. To the glory of God we have two gentlemen, Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Obafemi Hamzat, coming on board that to take Lagos to the next level. They belong to Asiwaju Bola Tinubu’s school of thought. We shall support them to achieve their goals The presidency and the APC national caucus have endorsed Femi Gbajabiamila for House of Representatives Speakership. Was it by accident? It was designed. He had been positioned in the House for it. He was supposed to be the Speaker in 2015, but for the rebellious acts of some APC members in the House who connived with the PDP elements to truncate the party’s arrangement. We don’t want to throw the issue of National Assembly leadership open in the House. APC has majority in both chambers to decide the leadership of the 9th National Assembly. In spite of the party endorsement, Gbajabiamila and the APC Senate President candidate, Senator Ahmed Lawan, have been going round the country seeking support from APC legislators-elect and the opposition members as well. What would you advise President Muhammadu Buhari in choosing his new cabinet? He should go for the best. Only the best is good enough for Nigeria. We told Nigerians during the campaign that the president, if re-elected, would take Nigeria to the next level and they are waiting for it. He is a trusted leader. He can’t do it alone; he needs capable hands to assist him. There are a lot of saboteurs in the system; there are PDP moles in government. You find them in INEC, military, civil service and the judiciary sabotaging the government. For President Buhari to continue to fight corruption, build infrastructure and invest in the economy and security, he needs the support of loyal people, otherwise they will constitute an impediment and slow down the process

"This will require one million tons of cassava every year and it means more money for cassava farmers. "In fact, the company is ready to assist those cassava farmers in getting multiple harvest," he stated. The manager added that before the end of 2019, an automobile assembly would arrive the hub for assembling different forms of vehicle. "Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, the state governor, on behalf of the state government, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)with Dolphing Company of China to have Chinese mall, where over 100 businesses have subscribed to in producing different wares. The First Lady described the state governor as a man of purpose, of high integrity and vision who meant well for advancement of the state. She added that Akeredolu was working to develop Ondo State, taking it to the next level. Mrs. Akeredolu urged women to think of they could do to benefit from the industrial hub, considering that the various companies would need farm produces for their operations. She asked FOWOSO team to inform others what they had seen and observed, saying they had seen reality and not paid advertisement or social media events. The First Lady, therefore, lauded Mr Ajipe, for keying into the state governor's vision and bringing it into manifestation. SENATE LEADERSHIP: APC GOVERNORS STEP IN TO AVERT LEADERSHIP CRISIS IN 9TH ASSEMBLY. Determined to avert a crisis in the 9th National Assembly, All Progressives Congress (APC) governors have waded into the row over choice of principal officers, especially the President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives. The race for Senate President is being hotly contested by the Senate Leader, Dr. Ahmad Lawan; the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriations, Sen. Danjuma Goje, and a former Senate Leader, Sen. Ali Ndume. A team raised by the governors may this week hold talks with Goje, who is rated as the favourite of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party(PDP). The governors are stepping in following speculations that Goje may declare his ambition for the coveted seat this week. According to a source, the APC governors are worried about the danger of the lawmakers elected on the platform of their party going into the Senate and the House divided on June 6. It was also learnt that the governors do not want the PDP to take advantage of any fresh crisis in APC to ‘hijack’ the National Assembly’s leadership. The governors decided to prevail on aspirants for principal offices to defer to President Muhammadu Buhari, especially on the choices of Dr. Ahmad Lawan for the Senate President and Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila as Speaker. A top source said: “ The APC governors have chosen to rally around the President to resolve issues surrounding the election of principal officers. They said it is obvious that the party cannot handle the tension alone. “The main agenda is to ensure that our new members in the National Assembly go for inauguration in a more united manner. The governors do not want the party to play into the hands of the PDP this time around. “As part of the first leg of consultations by the governors, a team is expected to meet with Goje this week to seek his understanding. “This is a follow up to a similar meeting between the President and Goje, which was brokered by Governor Nasir el-Rufai.” On how the intervention will affect other aspirants, the source, who asked not to be named, said: “The intervention will trickle down. The governors will meet with other aspirants like Sen. Ndume, and those seeking to vie for office of the Speaker. “We have got to a stage that we need to put the interest of our government above personal interest.” The APC leadership is believed to have reached out to Goje, but there has not been any commitment by him. Another source added: “Goje has not said yes or no on his purported ambition. But we have reached out to him. Some ex-governors have also met with him on the need to work with the President and the party.” Meanwhile, the APC has debunked insinuations that it will force senators-elect and House members-elect to sign an undertaking on the choice of principal officers. It was gathered that some lawmakers from the opposition were flying the kite to create a crisis in the APC caucuses in both chambers. “There is nothing like that, we are not going to blackmail our lawmakers and tie them down. We do not have any reasons to be doubting ourselves, “a high-ranking party leader said. When contacted, the National Publicity Secretary of APC, Mr. Lanre Issa-Onilu, said the party was confident that majority of the lawmakers are committed to its interest. He said: “ Majority of the newly-elected members of the National Assembly are committed and they share our worldview of being progressive. “We are certain they will work with the party in the interest of our government so that we can deliver our promises to Nigerians. ODSG, five others collaborate with UNICEF on health care delivery The United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF) has reiterated the importance of interpreting all its interventions in local languages so as to improve the healthcare of Nigerians, especially mothers and children. The Chief of UNICEF Akure Field Office, Mr. Tejinder Sandhu, said this today during a “Fact For Life” (FFL) meeting with commissioners of Information from state under Akure UNICEF field office, which held in Akure, the Ondo State capital. Sandhu noted that the stakeholders meeting was aimed at reviewing the progress made on the resolutions to improve healthcare of the people at the last meeting held in Akure on August 14, 2018. According to him, the translation of the intervention programmes in the local dialect of the people would enhance larger coverage and change the health-seeking behaviour of the people. The meeting was organised by Ondo State Ministry of Information and Orientation in conjunction with UNICEF having commissioners and representatives from Ondo, Ekiti, Oyo, Ogun, Osun and Edo states. At the last meeting, it was resolved that “English version of FFL radio programmes should be reproduced in Yoruba Language in order to reach and empower segments of the publication. “Good voices on radio from the concerned states should be used in the production for self-belonging.” There were presentations from participants, who expressed their commitment to the programme in their various states, while the academia, parents and caregivers shared their experiences. UNICEF Communication for Development Specialist, Mrs Caroline Akosile, mentioned that the meeting would also discuss launch of Yoruba FFL as agreed by consensus to break communication barrier among the states. Akosile added that it was a deliberate effort to “expand FFL partnership, explore sustainability and ownership; and to agree on next step for the promotion of FFL.” She disclosed that FFL had been translated in 215 languages and 200 countries have adopted it, revealing that Akure has 14 chapters on child protection with four themes on immunization, safe motherhood, sanitation and Exclusive Breastfeeding (EBF). Earlier in his welcome address, Ondo State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mr. Yemi Olowolabi, stressed that the partnership with UNICEF’s Communication for Development (C4D) unit has impacted positively on quality health delivery in the state. Owolabi said the collaboration had also improved on the standard of living of mother and children, leading to remarkable improvement on Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) campaigns. “Altogether, 120 wall paintings on hygiene and sanitation and another four paintings on exclusive breastfeeding have been completed across the three senatorial districts of the state. “This is in addition to numerous Information, Education and Communication (IEC) materials that we have produced to further educate our people on handwashing with soap and water. “We are on the last lap of airing of FFL programme on our radio station, Orange 94.5 FM Akure. We have completed airing of 49 episodes on hygiene and sanitation, EBF and immunization. “The last 13 episodes on care of newborn are currently running on the station every Wednesday from 9:45am to 10:00am,” he said. Speaking on the translation of FFL to Yoruba Language, the Commissioner said “it will reach and empower segments of the population in need of these messages since majority of our people will ‘grab’ the messages better in their mother tongue. “We also promised to make our state-owned radio stations available for the programme free of charge.” Without mincing words, he expressed optimism that the various interventions across the country would enable Nigeria to meet up with the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals on newborn care. ONDO TASK FORCE NABS TWO MARKETERS FOR SELLING ABOVE PUMP PRICE: Two persons have been arrested in idanre local government area of Ondo state by the petroleum monitoring task force for selling petrol above the approved pump price of 145 naira. Chairman of the state task force, Dr Doyin Odebowale during a monitoring exercise to some filling stations in Akure south and Idanre local government areas warned marketers to stick to the approved pump price or face the wrath of the law. Over 200,000 litres of fuel were in the underground tanks of the over 10 filling stations visited by the task force in the two council areas. ONDO State has lauded the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN): for approving N200 billion facility to farmers of five major cash crops at a single digit interest rate. The cash crops are cocoa, cashew, oil palm, shea butter and sesame seeds. The decision to support the farmers was arrived at the bankers’ committee meeting of the apex bank. Commissioner for Agriculture Otunba Adegboyega Adefarati said the development is one singular opportunity Ondo State’s cash crops farmers have been yearning for ages to take their trade to the world stage. Adefarati, who praised God for making this possible during the present administration, noted the efforts put in place by Akeredolu, who took the battles to the highest level of the National Economic Council (NEC). According to him, the contention of Ondo State, a leading producer of cocoa and major producers of oil palm, is to convince the CBN to advance the facility to cocoa and oil palm sector as it did to rice farmers. Adefarati was of the view that with a single digit interest rate facility, cocoa, oil palm and cashew farmers would be able to get the necessary inputs to improve their production. Hailing the NEC, which Akeredolu took the campaign to and the Bankers’ Committee for approving the facility for cash crop farmers, Adefarati enjoined cocoa, oil palm and cashew farmers to take advantage of the opportunity by approaching their banks to access the much-needed loan. He called on the Federal Government to set up a Presidential Committee on Cocoa Production like it did for some other sectors to ensure the Cocoa Rebirth Revolution, saying this is the surest way to maximise the country comparative advantages in cocoa production Source :https://thenationonlineng.net/ondo-hails-cbn-over-n200b-facility-to-farmers/

Buhari seeks accessible, safe cyberspace President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday called for an accessible, inclusive and safe cyberspace, where people would not be manipulated. He said world leaders had a duty to urgently address the issue. The Nigerian President, who delivered a keynote speech at the 2019 Annual Investment Meeting holding in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates, made a case for some regulation to protect the digital world. Although, Buhari admitted that the cyberspace had its own advantages, he noted that leaving it to operate without regulation would be counterproductive eventually. The theme of the conference is “Mapping the Future of Foreign Direct Investment: Enriching World Economies through Digital Globalisation,’’ according to a statement released by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina. Buhari also warned against what he saw as a new threat in using the digital world to manipulate elections and frustrate the democratic rights of individuals. He stated, ‘‘Today, we have a cyber-world that is intangible but real. This borderless world is powerful and it impacts the lives of billions of people, no matter how remote their physical locations are. ‘‘People work in it. People socialise in it. And people invest in it. This presents enormous opportunities. But it also remains a constant threat if left unregulated. ‘‘On the one hand, it has made the human race more productive and more efficient. Today, we have digital banking, virtual currencies and many social platforms that connect peoples and cultures. ‘‘On the other hand, we have seen platforms hijacked and manipulated as evidenced by the steady rise in fake news and cybercrimes. ‘‘More recently, we are also witnessing the use of the cyberspace to manipulate elections, subvert the democratic rights of citizens as well as propagate violence. ‘‘In effect, the digital world has become the new frontier for both good and evil. Therefore, the challenge for world leaders must be to ensure that this space is inclusive, accessible and safe.” It was the ninth edition of AIM, which had world leaders and private sector players in attendance. However, the President acknowledged the “digital revolution in Nigeria”, which he said had produced many young entrepreneurs, who generated over $100m to the country, especially in mobile phone penetration. ‘‘In Nigeria, our mobile phone penetration exceeds 80 per cent. This means the majority of Nigeria’s one hundred and ninety million citizens are fully connected to this new digital world; especially our youths. ‘‘Sixty-five per cent or one hundred and seventeen million Nigerians are under the age of 25 years. These bright minds are the drivers of this emerging digital sector. ‘‘Today, Nigeria has close to ninety technology hubs and every day, new ones are coming up and they are all developing solutions for Nigerian, and indeed global problems. ‘‘Already, these young entrepreneurs have attracted investments of over $100m, a sizeable amount from overseas, including Silicon Valley. ‘‘As many of you from this region are aware, Nigerian start-ups always have a very impressive outing at the Gulf Information Technology Exhibition. Many have won prizes,” the President told the session. Source:https://citadelng.com/buhari-seeks-accessible-safe-cyberspace/

JAMB Warns Candidates Ahead Of Its April 11 UTME Start Date JAMB Warn Candidates To Follow Printing Order Of Examination Slips Ahead of its exam slated for April 11, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has urged candidates to adhere strictly to the printing order of their examination slips, to avoid unnecessary issues. The instruction is contained in the board’s weekly bulletin tagged ‘JAMBULLETIN’, made available to newsmen by the Head, Media, and Information, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, in Lagos. According to the bulletin, printing of the 2019 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) notification slip is on-going, as the board has since made it ready for all candidates who registered for the examination. “The notification is to allow candidates to know their examination schedules, which includes time, date and venue of the examination. “Candidates are therefore advised to take the printing order seriously in order for them to have an idea of the location of their centres, well ahead of the examination. “It is also to enable them to prepare for all necessary logistics of being at their respective centers on time,” the bulletin stated. It added that the e-slips of the candidates had been placed on their JAMB profiles created at the point of registration. “For those who are unable to access their slips through their portal at www.jamb.org.ng, the board has provided a step by step process of making the printing easy. “First, they should go to the official JAMB portal, www.jamb.org.ng/efacility /printexaminationslip. “Next, candidates would be required to enter their registration number, telephone number used in vending the pin at the point of registration or email in the appropriate column and follow the next command,” it said. “Candidates are advised to print two copies of the examination slip in full, as one copy will be submitted at the centre while the second copy will be kept by the candidates for reference purpose,” it said. The bulletin added that it was important to note that there would be no rescheduling of the examination, no matter the reason. It added that all candidates must ensure that they are verified using the Biometric Verification Machine. The board has also warned candidates and parents or guardians to desist from paying UTME application fees to schools or tutorial centres. It said that the warning became necessary owing to the growing practice of some elite schools/colleges and tutorial centres that collect money in bulk from candidates to register them en masse. According to the bulletin, through diligent investigation, the board discovered that schools involved in the practice usually levy candidates exorbitant sums running into millions of Naira for the purpose of the UTME registration. “In this regard, it should be reiterated that the board does not do group registration, as candidates are required to do individual registration. “The board has noted with displeasure a series of some of the unfortunate situation some of these schools, especially the elite ones, have put some candidates through. “In their bid to make money, they engage in series of infractions in the name of group registration and other acts inimical to the interest of the candidates and the sanctity of the examination. “This kind of fraudulent registration end up distorting candidate’s data,” it said. It warned the public to be mindful of such unscrupulous schools or centers who more often than not, register candidates at unauthorized centers. According to the bulletin, the board’s examination is not a school-based examination and therefore does not require candidates registering in groups. source:https://www.nairaland.com/5122896/jamb-warns-candidates-ahead-april

KEY NOTE ADDRESS BY HER EXCELLENCY ARABINRIN BETTY ANYANWU-AKEREDOLU AT THE STAKEHOLDERS MEETING ON 63RD SESSION OF UN COMMISSION ON THE STATUS OF WOMEN (UNCSW63) HELD AT AKURE, ONDO STATE ON 4TH APRIL, 2019. 1. Protocols 2. To base my address on my experience at the UNCSW63 3. UNCSW63 was an event that brought together participants from diverse backgrounds to share their experiences and see how we could collectively improve our strides for gender equality. This year’s 63rd session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW63), the UN’s largest gathering on gender equality, took place at the United Nations Headquarters in New York from 11 – 22 March 2019. It focused on the theme, “Social protection systems, access to public services and sustainable infrastructure for gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls”. 4. A first-timer. Amazing experience and an eye-opener: Nigerians everywhere but not together due to lack of coordination. Present were: minister for women affairs, at least 5 first ladies of different states attended but I only met Mrs. Ambode on the queue. No preferential treatment for first lady there o! it was a very long queue. Spent over one hour before entering the registration room. While in the queue on the street i could chat on my whatsapp through free Wifi. Had one on one interaction with many Nigerian NGOs who attended my two presentations and at the cafeteria. The town hall with Sec. Gen. where countries with cohesion sang together brought to the fore the need for some coordination among Nigeria delegates at subsequent UN CSW. 5. Recommendation: Fed. Ministry of Women Affairs should have a desk officer provided with a computer/laptop, create a portal on Federal ministry of Women Affairs website for participants to submit a biosketch. Information is shared and those who are attending network among themselves, know their levels of participation- e.g. presentations at the general assembly or side events. So we get prepared and support each at such international forum. I hope to communicate my view to the ministry. In addition, it would be nice for the Nigerian embassy to host Nigerian participants to a cocktail or dinner. That's what other countries do to their nationals which elicits a sense of pride and patriotism. I expect no less from our embassies. Look forward to a coordinated Nigerian delegation to UNCSW64. Nigerians are there every year in large numbers. Lagos state delegation has been going for over 5 years with the state sponsoring civil servants and women led NGOs. Learned that the Lagos delegation at UNCSW63 could be up to 30 led by their 1st lady. I didn't waste time telling Arakunrin what I was seeing. Interestingly, I am aware that participants from Ondo State had participated in this meeting in the past but failed to share their experiences publicly. 6. My advice: is that when we have the rare privilege to attend such international meetings like UNCSW, and having been sponsored by government, we owe this country a duty to share information and knowledge for the benefit of the country and in the case of CSW, for the advancement of our women. The highest most civil servants do is to write a report, with file dumped on shelf and contents are never disseminated. A forum such as this where experiences and knowledge are shared after participating at international meetings must be encouraged and even made compulsory. An undertaking to share experience and knowledge must be signed before travelling is approved. 7. # My take home from UNCSW63: 7.1. On gender violence: * UN women created a committee of experts on sexual harassment to deal directly with such cases thereby bypassing the bureaucratic bottleneck of the system *The #metoo movement has given women a voice globally to kick against sexual harassment especially at work places * "Boys will always be boys" is no longer acceptable * Let's stop blaming the victim of rape * Our society must to learn to accept NO! when a girl says NO! to sexual advances. * Mothers must review how we raise our sons to respect and appreciate womanhood 7.2. On menstrual hygiene: *Provision of WASH facilities in school is an essential commodity. The lack of infrastructure negatively impacts on the Girl-child education because she skips classes during her menses. *Teenagers from poor families cannot afford sanitary pads. I did tweet: "Condoms are given free of charge. Sanitary pads are not. What is #OurPriorityInNigeria". 7.3. On ICT & Solar Technology: * ICT is gender neutral. Let's encourage STEM in our girls and groom them to become technology leaders. It is doable. We have proved that in Ondo State with BEMORE summer Bootcamp 4 Girls Naija. We have proved that girls can #BEMORE than what the society ascribes them to be. We have measurable outcomes: #BEMORE girl Marvelous Jegede a 14 year school girl from Arigidi successfully installed solar panels to light up her home after two years in darkness. #BEMORE girl Tolu Ehinmosan former student of Stella Maris Okitipupa now first year student of computer engineering at Unilag built solar oven which she donated to the home economics dept of her school. She represented Ondo State with the nomination of our Solar for girls initiative at the Global Energy Awards held in Iran. * Presently, four of #BEMORE girls present at this meeting (please stand up for recognition) are being groomed to compete for the Tec novation challenge holding at Silicone valley, California, USA. They are developing an app to solve identified in their environment a problem under the tutelage of our dependable partner Seed4DEV represented here by Kitan David. I wish them well. 7.4. On power balance at home, work and in governance: * My favourite quote “Power is not given, power is taken” – UN. Sec. Gen. * Female heads of states shared their experiences. Eastern Europe has a fair share of Presidents and Prime ministers. * That we need more women at the decision making tables cannot be overemphasized. *Here in Nigeria, we are embarrassingly too few considering our population and the fact that more women come out to vote. So we have the voting power. Let's use it and put more women in the legislative houses and in position of authority. 7.5. On economic empowerment: * Economic empowerment brings about knowledge, financial stability and self-worth and gives a woman confidence. Concerted effort by government to encourage women engage in productive ventures that are women-friendly such as farming and agro allied business, cottage industries, trading, ICT and other skills acquisitions relevant to their immediate environment. Create access to micro credit. FOWOSO is paving the way. The impact is evidence based with measurable outcomes. Empowered over 2000 women and youth. Free medical services at all FOWOSO empowerment outreaches together with Breast Cancer awareness to over 20,000 people in the 18 local governments’ areas. Ondo State government has been a dependable ally in this regard and greatly appreciated for its supportive role. 7.6. Backward never: Let me reiterate here that any government that is serious about uplifting her women from obscurity, ignorance and poverty must endeavour to provide the opportunity for them to participate in the annual UNCSW. It is a global gathering of women like no other. The exposure was fantastic. You need to experience the moment Ondo State women must not be left behind. Thank you.

Prof. Yemi Osinbajo: Buhari focused on prosperity agenda in the next four years President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration in the next four years will address, among other things, the deficiencies in the quality of human resources caused by poor education and healthcare, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has said. Osinbajo spoke on Monday at the University of Lagos(UNILAG) where he delivered the Convocation Lecture ahead of the university’s 50th anniversary According to him, under Buhari’s administration, Nigeria’s prosperity means a decent existence for all. “Second, that prosperity so defined will be attained if we are able to address the issues of extreme poverty, productivity, corruption, the rule of law and the deficiencies in the quality of human resources caused by poor education and healthcare. “We must have a robust enough healthcare system that ensures that the average person is in good health, an educational system that guarantees education capable of preparing children for the opportunities and challenges of a knowledge economy. “in planning the path to prosperity, we also took into account the age-old weaknesses of the Nigerian economy and the illusion of prosperity that frequently distorts our understanding of the actual fragility of our economy”. On the way forward, the vice president said from the onset it was clear to the Federal Government that it needed to devise an economic plan that prioritised the basic issues with Nigeria’s economy. He said that Nigeria needed to prioritise the building of infrastructure especially rail, roads, power and ports; productivity as it diversified from oil and gas. Osinbajo said that more would be done in the fight against public sector corruption and developing a new educational curriculum that emphasises Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths. “Others include; adopting a new approach to resourcing healthcare; putting in place a social investment programme that deals with issues of extreme poverty and unemployment. Our Economic Recovery and Growth Plan effectively addressed these issues. “ On the progress made so far, Osinbajo said the Buhari administration believed that creating an environment for productivity investment in hard and soft infrastructure was crucial. He assured Nigerians that with the integrity of President Buhari and the commitment of his administration, Nigeria would not derail from its current path to prosperity. Osinbajo said that if the administration stuck to its agenda in the next two years, Nigerians would see the most significant improvements, in the power sector. “Industrial Infrastructure is a major component of our economic transformation plan. Project MINE (Made in Nigeria for Export) is the major plank of our industrial policy. ” The idea is to build Special Economic Zones which accommodate industries for local manufacture of goods for which Nigeria has a comparative advantage. These include cotton, garments, leatherware among others, ” he said. Shortly before delivering the Convocation lecture, Osinbajo unveiled the Mascot for the 26th NUGA games and inaugurated some projects executed by the University. Some of the projects include the newly constructed Container Building for the University Technology Hub, the Academic Publishing Centre Building, the Faculty of Engineering Lecture Theatre, and the remodelled University Medical Centre. STATE HOUSE MEDICAL CENTRE REVERTS TO CLINIC, PRESIDENT BUHARI DIRECTS President Muhammadu Buhari has directed that the State House Medical Centre (SHMC) revert to a Clinic to serve the original purpose of its establishment. Permanent Secretary, State House, Mr Jalal Arabi, announced this Monday in Abuja when he appeared before the Senate Committee on Federal Character and Inter-Governmental Affairs for the 2019 budget defence. The Permanent Secretary disclosed that ‘‘without prejudice to what is currently obtainable at SHMC, the intention to revert to a clinic is a Presidential directive. This is to make sure that the facility is functional and serves the purpose for which it was established, ab initio.’’ Later, Arabi explained to journalists after the budget defence that the reversion of the Centre to a Clinic was a case of ‘‘cutting one’s coat according to your cloth.’’ ‘‘It was initially meant to serve the first and second families and those working within and around the Villa. ‘‘The overstretching of facilities at the Medical Centre by patients is some of the challenges the Centre have been going through. It wasn’t meant for that purpose. ‘‘Nobody was charging anyone for any services and relying on appropriation means we will depend on subvention when it comes to run the Centre. ‘‘Whatever comes is what you utilise and if the last patient comes in to take the last drugs based on the last budgetary release, that is it and we have to wait till another release is done. ‘‘But this new development means that services will be streamlined to a clinic that will serve those that it was meant to serve when it was conceived,’’ the Permanent Secretary said. The Centre was a focal point during the 2-hour presentation and budget defence by the Permanent Secretary before the Senate Committee. Arabi disclosed that the Centre had a total budget of N1.03 billion in the 2018 appropriation, with N698 million as capital expenditure and N331.7 million as overhead cost. The total overhead expenditure released for the Centre from January-December 2018 is N331.7 million, representing 99.9 per cent while the capital releases on projects is N231.9 million, representing 33.2 per cent. In his remarks, the Chairman of the Committee, Sen. Danjuma La’ah (PDP-Kaduna South) welcomed the proposal to make the SHMC fully functional and ensure that members of the first and second families use the facilities at the clinic. Senator La’ah assured that committee will support full funding for the Clinic and commended the 2018 budget performance in State House, compared to previous years, despite revenue challenges. ‘‘Considering the strategic importance of State House they are not supposed to lack funds and we will keep encouraging them to utilise releases effectively,’’ he said. The State House 2019 budget proposal of N14.3 billion is slightly lower than the 2018 Appropriation of N15.47 billion by 7.1 per cent.

Mrs Akeredolu Felicitates with Ondo State Women on Mothering Sunday, Calls for Gender Balanced Society As families throughout Ondo State and Nigeria at large gather to honor mothers today, the Wife of Ondo State Governor, Arabinrin Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, has restated the need for a gender balanced society. She made this known during a service organised to mark the 2019 Mothering Sunday at the Cathedral Church of St Andrew, Owo. Appreciating all women who have played important roles of mothers in our lives, including the commitment of foster and adoptive mothers who have taken on the responsibility of caring for children who are less privileged around their communities, the mother of the Sunshine State, Arabinrin Akeredolu, noted that gender balanced society is important for societal development. She stressed that the call is on for the gender-balanced society as it is essential for economies and communities to thrive. While commenting on the sermon by Very Rev R.O.A Agboola, the First Lady urged husbands to be more attentive to the needs of their wives. “Marriage is a partnership. Our husbands should not relegate their wives to mere domestic slaves. Men should also help their spouses. “Women subjugation is a mere societal construct. If society could make us believe that women are inferior to men, we, the inhabitants of present day Nigeria, can also correct this false notion.” Earlier in his sermon, titled Christian Family, Very Rev. R.O.A Agboola called on the congregation to always commit their families into God’s hands as this, he concluded, would help to ensure peace and prosperity in their homes. He also lauded the First Lady for her numerous contributions to women development within Ondo State. Highpoints of the event featured the conferring of the honour of Mother of the Priest on Arabinrin.
