Politics / All Is Well With Arakunrin Akeredolu And And Prof. Ajayi Boroffice’s Camp by Ashleyeniwin(f): 9:16pm On Dec 16, 2019
ALL IS WELL WITH ARAKUNRIN AKEREDOLU AND AND PROF. AJAYI BOROFFICE’S CAMP

Pre-election period is always filled rumors and attempt of smear personalities, changing narratives to cause division among party loyalist and supporters. While the said article claimed that Prof. Ajayi Boroffice denied his purported plan to back the Governor of Ondo State Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu towards his second term bid, it’s quite evident and crystal clear that this is another political propaganda which must be taken like another old housewife’s tales with no iota of credibility. While this news continues to circulate the media space, it takes no esoteric lenses to realize that this is another old tricks employed by the political miscreants in the state to disrupt the existing peace of the state.
While these political jackasses are at it smearing themselves in the dirt with absurd claims, the relationship between the Governor of Ondo State and Prof. Ajayi Boroffice in these past few months have clear indication that Prof. Ajayi Boroffice has nothing against Arakunrin Akeredolu and that he is ever supportive of the good and progressive governance of the Akeredolu led administration in Ondo State. It would be recalled that Prof. Ajayi Boroffice was one of the first to congratulate Arakunrin Akeredolu upon his emergence as the Governor elect of Ondo State, moreover in the several occasions where both individuals were seen in the public, the shown of brotherly love and support for one another in these several occasion is enough to quench these baseless rumors.
Moreover, following the intervention of the party bigwigs which was led by the Party National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, former interim National Chairman, Chief Bisi Akande; Chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum Kayode Fayemi and erstwhile governor of Ogun State , Chief Segun Osoba , the differences between these two individuals has been sorted out as both parties has been appeased as the party is now united with one common goal in Ondo state and at the National Level which is collectively focused on ensuring the continuity of good governance has been witnessed in the state. Prof. Ajayi Boroffice and Arakunrin Akeredolu are progressives, who will never do anything against party rules.
The good people of Ondo state must never allow itself to be distracted by these rumor peddlers and unscrupulous elements who have no good intention, just has Arakunrin Akeredolu is focused on developing and sustaining his good works in Ondo State, Prof. Ajayi Boroffice is also focused on discharging his duties as a senator of the federal republic of Nigeria.

WE WILL CONTINUE TO ADD VALUE TO EDUCATIONAL ASPIRATION OF OUR PEOPLE – AKEREDOLU

Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu has vowed to continue to add value to the educational aspirations of the people of the state by supporting the best ideas for moving the State forward.

Governor Akeredolu said the hope and vision of his administration is to see that Ondo State becomes the number one state that has the best and most modern infrastructure for educational development in the country.

The Governor spoke at the Maiden Convocation Ceremony of the University of Medical Sciences, Ondo City on Friday, December 13, 2019.

Arakunrin Akeredolu, who pointed out that Ondo is a State where people love education, and where education is the number one industry of most families, stressed that his administration will continue to do its very best to support the University of Medical Sciences and all State tertiary institutions that have been so well distributed across the three senatorial districts of the State.

The Governor and his wife, Arabinrin Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu were among eminent personalities that were conferred with the institution's Hero's' award in recognition of their love and commitment to the progress and sustainability of the institution.

While charging the Council and Management of the institution on purposeful development, Governor Akeredolu said they must shun self-interest, further charging them to be accountable in the use of the meager resources of the institution following “due process”, transparency and accountability.

The Governor said: “At this point, let me congratulate the Council, Senate, staff and students of UNIMED for this milestone development. It's due to the hard work that you all have put in that we are witnessing today's event.

“ I do hope you will continue in this manner to ensure even greater successes for the University. I also congratulate the graduating students, their parents and guardians, who must be very happy that what began as a small anecdote only a few years ago, has now transformed into a big success for their wards and families.

“The graduating students must also know that the degree they are getting today is only a small seed, which they should make bigger and stronger in their quest for personal development.

”I therefore wish to call on UNIMED and indeed all Universities in Ondo State to ensure that their management is strong and that senior management officials are appointed with consideration for merit, track records, integrity and strong University management experience.

“As the Visitor, I will continue to monitor the trends in order to ensure that only the very best personnel that buy into the vision and mission of the State for educational development will find places in the management of our tertiary educational system.“

ODHA Charges To Do Thorough Jobs

Ondo State House of Assembly has charged contractors handling rehabilitation and construction of roads across the state to do a thorough job that will stand the test of time.

The House Committee on Works and Infrastructure gave the charge during its oversight visit to the sites of roads under construction and rehabilitation in the Northern Senatorial District area of the state.

Speaking with Journalists, the Chairman of the Committee, Dr Adeyemi Olayemi who expressed satisfaction with the level of work done on the dualisation of Ikare township road phase two, commended the contractor handling the project for adhering to standard.

Olayemi, who is the Chief Whip of the House and a member representing Owo state constituency ll, said the governor has invested so much in infrastructure across the state and the people of the state are happy with the development through their reactions and comments.

The Chairman however frowned at the slow pace of job at Iyere/Ipele phase one and two in Owo local government.

While saying that the contractor handling phase one was not on site during the visit despite the fact that he was informed about the oversight function, he posited that the House would take it up at the parliamentary meeting.

He stressed that the committee was not also satisfied with the work at phase two and therefore called on the supervisor of the project to be on site on Monday to defend what they have done.

Olayemi informed that the oversight visit was to see how far they have gone with projects as approved in the budget.

Meanwhile, residents of the place visited eulogised the Akeredolu-led government for the infrastructural development in the state, adding that they will forever be grateful for bringing relief to motorists and people plying the roads.

Other road projects inspected included failed section along Owo/Ikare road, construction and rehabilitation of Molege junction to Ute township road, Iyere/Igbe road, among others.

Food / Ondo Rice Farmers Harvest 300,000 Tonnes- Major Increase by Ashleyeniwin(f): 2:05pm On Dec 09, 2019
Ondo Rice Farmers Harvest 300,000 Tonnes- Major Increase

Ondo State chairman of Sunshine Rice Association, Prince George Oladapo has disclosed that rice production in the state is on the increase, as many farmers are currently harvesting not less than 300,000 tonnes.

Particularly, he said there have been an upsurge in the number of rice farmers in the state in recent time.

He said that the state at present could boast of average 15,000 rice farmers which he projected could double before next season going by the rate at which people have shown interest in rice farming as a result of the huge market and favourable price.

He said the development will definitely force down the price of rice soon.

Oladapo assured that the current price of the nation’s branded rice would not last as he called on the consumers to exercise patience with local rice farmers and processors.

Reacting to complaints by some people that farmers failed to reduce the price of the commodity as promised, some rice farmers and processors in the state who spoke with The Hope attributed the high price to excessive rainfall experienced this year which wiped off many farms, while some said it is as a result of cost of production.

Recalled that the President of Rice Farmers Association of Nigeria (RIFAN), Aminu Goronyo called on Nigerians two months ago to expect a crash in the price of the commodity, saying “we have a bumper harvest we never had before” and that it will crash the price to nine thousand naira per 50kg bag in three weeks.

Secretary to Ondo State Federated FADAMA Community Association, Mr Boluwade Ogunbodede who attributed the exorbitant price of the commodity to cost of production said processors run their mills mainly on diesel making the cost of production higher than necessary.

Ogunbodede added that excessive rainfall experienced in the year wiped off most farms leaving some farmers with almost nothing.

He assured that the price of Nigerian rice will come down as time goes on since more people are embracing rice cultivation in the country coupled with the assistance from government.

“I just arrived from a meeting with the Central Bank of Nigeria held in Abuja. There are many rice anchors now from all over the country. I saw a lot of farmers and with that I know it is possible for Nigerians to grow rice that will feed us and even export,” he stressed.

When asked why some local rice are of poor quality, Ogunbodede noted that some farmers still process the product the old way because what they plant is small. He said further that most Nigerian rice could compete with foreign rice while some are even better.

Coordinator of CMS Cooperative Society, producer of mainland rice in Akure, Mr Omotayo Alonge affirmed that the variety being produced in Nigeria is one of the best which according to him is better than most foreign rice.

Alonge who believed that the current price is reasonable considering what goes into the production, stated that the price will come down with time saying “we are just coming up”.

He commended Nigerian rice farmers who work all days to meet the demands of the populace, adding that they have more than enough to feed Nigerians till the end of the year and beyond.

Others who spoke described the step of the Federal Government to close the border as a blessing advising that government should not bow to pressure from any quarter.

They also appealed to Nigerians to bear with them in the area of price saying it would come down with time.

In Three Months Six million Nigerians Join Rice Producers, says FG

OVER three months after the closure of the nation’s borders, about six million Nigerians, including youths, have ventured into rice farming in the country, the Federal Government has said.

The number may have risen to over 18 million if 12.2 million farmers involved in the venture before the border closure as provided by the Rice Farmers Association of Nigeria is added.

The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, stated these in Kano on Thursday after a tour of major rice mills to assess the impact of border closure.

He visited the Al-Hamsad Rice Mill, Kura Brothers Rice Mill, Tiamin Rice Ltd and Umza International Farms, all in Kano, to ascertain how they had been grappling with the rising demand for rice in the country.

He was accompanied by the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Alhaji Sabo Nanono; rice farmers and millers as well as officials of the Nigeria Customs Service.

According to him, all existing 34 rice mills in the country were now producing at maximum capacity following the closure of borders.

Mohammed also stated that the impact of the border closure would hasten the country’s quest to achieve self-sufficiency in rice production.

According to him, while daily production has hit 150,000 bags, the cycle of rice cultivation has increased from twice a year to three times a year as a result of increase in the rice production value chain.

The minister expressed optimism that self-sufficiency in rice production would also translate to more job opportunities for the teeming millions of unemployed youths.

He said, “Let’s start with rice farmers. Before the drill, which some people have referred to as border closure, there were 12.2 million rice farmers in Nigeria, according to RIFAN.

“The farmers were cultivating rice twice a year. Now, many rice farmers across the country have started three-times-a-year cultivation in order to meet the increasing demand. This is phenomenal.

“Not only that, at least six million people, mostly youths, are now venturing into rice production, meaning that we could hit 18 million rice farmers in no time if the present trend continues. This is positive fallout of the border drill. Also, some farmers are now going beyond rice farming and venturing into buying rice paddies and even packaging and marketing. In fact, young farmers are buying small rice mills and off-taking rice paddies from rice farms.

The move follows the disruption of court proceedings by DSS operatives during the commencement of trial in a case brought against the activists by the Nigerian Government on Friday morning at the Federal High Court.

Scores of heavily-armed operatives of the Department of State Services are currently chasing the vehicle of Senior Advocate of Nigeria and lawyer to activists, Omoyele Sowore and Olawale Bakare, after he drove them out of the premises of the Federal High Court in Abuja.

The move follows the disruption of court proceedings by DSS operatives during the commencement of trial in a case brought against the activists by the Nigerian Government on Friday morning at the Federal High Court.

The secret police had made fruitless attempts to rearrest Sowore and Bakare inside the courtroom having only released them on bail on Thursday night.

The incident led to rancour and commotion inside and around the court premises with the armed operatives preventing Sowore and team from leaving the place.

However, after several minutes of tension, Falana drove the two men in his car out of the court premises with DSS operatives in several vehicles giving them a hot chase behind.

Education Incomplete Without Skill Acquisition - Akeredolu

Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu,SAN, has emphasized the need for Universities and other tertiary institutions to prioritize skill acquisitions alongside the acquisition of certificates.

The Governor said the practice of acquiring certificates without the skills and knowledge to solve problems cannot be equated with capacity.

Arakunrin Akeredolu, who delivered the 20th Founders' Day Anniversary Lecture of the Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, on Wednesday, said the acquisition of certificates should be evident in the capacity to engage challenges and break new grounds to accommodate the inherent dynamism in human affairs.

The Governor, who lamented the embarrassing presence of a multitude of unemployed youths in the polity, called for an urgent review of the current practices.

While pointing out the errors that is often made, Akeredolu said the society usually mistake being lettered to be the sole purpose of education, adding that the ability to read and write only opens doors for opportunities.

He said: ”Proficiency in an official language of the State confirms elitism, not capacity. Being knowledgeable in specific areas of knowledge is an advantage. The needs of a society should be emphasized in a curriculum of training.

”A properly trained citizen is an asset to the community. An untrained compatriot is a perennial burden. A system of instruction must be purposeful; it must be designed to achieve an end. Acquisition of knowledge confers potential ability status on a people. Its application actualizes dreams and prevents untoward occurrences.”

Governor Akeredolu said universities in Nigeria will only contribute meaningfully to the development of the country if there is a remarkable change in attitude.

”Our universities must redirect their energies to peculiar areas of research, which will be beneficial to the environment. Until this is done, the tragic joke continues,” Akeredolu said.

While congratulating the graduating students, the Governor asked them to consider the acquisition of their certificates as basic, saying that they need to acquire new skills to survive at this current period.

He saluted the vision of late Pa Adebayo Adefarati for establishing the university, adding that the state must ensure that the noble idea continues to grow.

” I am not oblivious of the significant strides already made by this great institution. I must, however, nudge you not to be complacent. The fact that our products look up to government as the main employer of labour in the type of economy we practise shows that we still have a very long way to cover before arriving at the desired destination,” the Governor concluded.

FOWOSO’s Empowerment Unquantifiable, Says Akeredolu

Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, has described as unquantifiable the training and empowerment of women in the state by the Foundation Of Wives of Ondo State Officials (FOWOSO).

The Governor said the activities of the Foundation, particularly in the area of training and empowerment of women across the 18 Local Government Areas of the State, have produced many entrepreneurs.

Governor Akeredolu spoke on Wednesday at the 2nd FOWOSO summit, held at the International Culture and Event Center (DOME), Igbatoro Road, Akure.

Arakunrin Akeredoku, who said he was a bit skeptical about the initiative at the beginning, noted that what the First Lady, Arabinrin Betty Anyanwu -Akeredolu has taken women through in the last two years could be best described as a phenomenon.

”The First Lady’s approach is for the betterment of women of Ondo State. What our women have gained with FOWOSO, especially the training is unquantifiable. There are so many women that have been trained on many handiwork. I believe that in your own little ways, FOWOSO has produced entrepreneurs.” Akeredolu stressed.

Speaking on the theme of the summit; ”Prioritising Women’s Health & Well Being In Nigeria”, the Governor said his administration has prioritised the well-being of women in the state.

He said: ”We have prioritized women health and well-being in Ondo State and that was what led to the Maternal and Child Health Scheme which we launched yesterday. All you need to access the free health care for pregnant women is your residency cards. Every child under 5 is entitled to free health care in Ondo State.

”Let me commend the efforts of the Founder of FOWOSO, Arabinrin Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu for this laudable initiative geared towards the development of womenfolk in Ondo State.

”This Foundation has, over a period of two years, impacted positively the lives of women in the State. There is no gainsaying the fact, therefore, that FOWOSO is focused in the right direction as Ondo State women are now able to contribute to the growth and sustenance of the economy of the State

”This is made possible through skill acquisition training and empowerment programmes organised for women across the 18 Local Government Areas in the State. ”

We’ll Continue To Create Enabling Ambience For Artisans In Ondo - Akeredolu

Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu,SAN, has assured that his administration will continue to create an enabling ambience for Artisans in the state.

The Governor said, apart from the money that has been injected into the micro-credit loan scheme for the Artisans in the state, another set of fund will soon be set aside for the Artisans to access.

Governor Akeredolu spoke on Tuesday, during the 2019 Artisans’ Day Celebration, held at the MKO Abiola Democracy Park, Akure, the state capital.

The Governor said his administration is continually providing good roads and more infrastructure, with all logistics needed to engender increase in productivity.

He said the pivotal roles of artisans to the economic activities of the State requires that government gives them maximum support in order to generate massive employment and boost income for the State.

Governor Akeredolu said:”It is obvious that this sector has demonstrated its unalloyed support for our government and I can assure you that we shall continue to create an enabling ambience for the sector to thrive in our dear State.”

Arakunrin Akeredolu said the celebration has become necessary to sustain the premise that human capital is a critical catalyst for economic emancipation of nations and prosperity of the people.

“It is my belief that artisans occupy a sizeable proportion of the total human capital resource in the State. As a matter of fact, they occupy a large portion of the total active population in our State.

“As it is now, the festival, which is an annual event, is being channelled to drive and enhance the capacity of our youths for productivity in order to create wealth.

”Ondo State has the potential to become a key player in the economy of the nation by virtue of its human capital and natural endowment. To achieve this, it is imperative and urgent to re-engineer the economy and place it on a trajectory of sustained economic growth.

“Our administration understands the fact that sustainable development can be accomplished through robust partnership with artisans. Therefore, our focus is to ensure rapid growth, development and sustainability of our economy," Akeredolu stressed.

Politics / El-rufai Commends Awo, Ajasin For Free Education Policy by Ashleyeniwin(f): 4:52pm On Nov 29, 2019
El-Rufai commends Awo, Ajasin for free education policy

The Governor of Kaduna State, Malam Nasir El-Rufai has attributed the high quality human capital in the South-west of the country to the foresight of chief Obafemi Awolowo and his political ally, late Chief Michael Adekunle Ajasin in implementing the free education programme.

El-Rufai made the observation in Akure yesterday at a colloquium organized by the Ajasin Foundation to commemorate the 116th post humous birthday anniversary of the former Governor of Ondo State.

He said both Awolowo and Ajasin deserved commendation for the ingenious education policy which had improved the fortunes of the South-West region.

The Governor, who was the key note speaker at the event said the high quality human capital development in the South-West is a direct consequence of the free education policy.

He said if there was no elite consensus, it would have been difficult for Ajasin and Awolowo to have surmounted the opposition they faced in instituting the policy.

El-Rufai then gave the areas in which elite consensus in Present-day Nigeria could galvanise the nation towards economic development and social justice.

He said elite in the country should come to a consensus on such key issues as the rule of law, citizenship, meritocracy, diversity and devolution of power.

He then spoke on the theme of the colloquium, which is Promoting Economic Development, Social Justice and Rule of Law as Pathways to Stability, Peace and Prosperity in Nigeria.

The Kaduna State Governor said Nigeria could only achieve rapid national growth if governments all over the country institute the rule of law and social justice.

He said the rule of law provides an acceptable mode of conduct that guarantees fairness, which translates to economic development within a background of social justice and peace.

He said governments have a role to play in the dynamics because they have a responsibility to protect millions of vulnerable Nigerians who have been weakened by climate change, rapid social growth and pervasive poverty.

In his contribution Mr. Agboola Ajayi, who represented the Ondo State Governor, said Ajasin left a gap that contemporary Ondo State politicians found difficult to fill.

He said the fact that present politicians use Ajasin’s name to campaign showed that the late former governor will not be easily forgotten.

He commended Ajasin’s children for instituting a programme to remember their father’s legacies.

The chairman of the occasion, Senator Bode Olajumoke extolled the contributions of Ajasin in changing the face of present day Ondo State though his educational and industrial policies.

He also commended Ajasin’s children for organizing an initiative for the past 20 years to make many remember the legacy of their father.

In her remarks, Jumoke Anifowose one of Ajasin’s children, said her father while alive focused on social justice, human rights and human capital development, a commitment that led him to fight the military in a bid to install democracy in the country.

She hoped that the colloquium this year would provide a workable template to usher Nigerian to the rank of economically developed nations of the world.

The Ajasin Foundation was established in 1999 to espouse and inculcate ideals such as personal discipline and commitment to public good as principles for the present and coming generations of Nigerians should imbibe towards economic development

Politics / APC Disowns Suit Seeking Third Term For Buhari by Ashleyeniwin(f): 4:27pm On Nov 29, 2019
APC disowns suit seeking third term for Buhari

The All Progressives Congress has distanced itself from the suit seeking an amendment of the constitution to allow President Muhammadu Buhari to run for a third term in office.

The ruling party said the suit filed by a “self-proclaimed” member of the party, Charles Enya, was in bad taste, describing him as a busybody and an “enemy” that might have been sponsored by the opposition.

The APC in a statement on Thursday by its National Publicity Secretary, Lanre Issa-Onilu, threatened a legal action against Enya and serious disciplinary action, if truly he was a member of the party.

The statement said, “The party had initially chosen to ignore him, however, it has become important to send a clear message to him and such other agent provocateurs.

“At the last National Executive Committee meeting of the party, President Buhari didn’t mince words and he is not the type that talks tongue in cheek. He pointedly said he would abide by the constitution and uphold the oath of office he took, swearing by the holy book he believes in. This, he said, was beside his advanced age which made such an idea beyond his contemplation.”

The APC said it was ready to send a strong signal to enemies of the country like Enya, who might be testing the resolve of the government on its mission to work for the best of the country.

The statement added, “The party is, however, by this statement sending a strong signal to such other busybodies like Charles Enya, who may be contemplating testing the resolve of our government on our mission to work for the best for our country, to be ready to face the law.

“We would follow this new enemy of our country, who is most likely being sponsored by the desperate and misguided opposition, every step of the way, using all legal means to thwart his devilish efforts to create chaos in our country.

“As a party, we would not take kindly to anyone or group causing unnecessary distraction for this administration through anti-democratic actions. As a country, we are several years behind where we ought to be.

“The President Buhari-led administration is focused on the onerous responsibility of delivering good governance. We are focused on revamping our moribund infrastructure, growing the economy, fighting corruption, creating the right environment for our teeming youths to deploy their creative energies, and providing adequate security for all of our people.

“We have tried to find out the status of this character claiming to be a member of our party. If he turns out to be our member, we would ensure the party’s organ that has the responsibility to act on this matter promptly commence the process of expelling him. We are a progressive party and we do not have space for anti-democratic forces and charlatans.”

In the suit filed at the Federal High Court in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, Enya had prayed that the clauses restricting the President from seeking another term be removed from the constitution

He asked the court to order the National Assembly and the Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, to remove the constitutional clauses stopping Buhari from getting a third term.

Defendants in the suit are Clerk of the National Assembly, Mohammed Sani-Omolori, the National Assembly and the AGF.

He added that the present two-term tenure was discriminatory
