Politics / Buhari Endorsed Obaseki, Akeredolu For Second Term, Says Oyegun by Ashleyeniwin(f): 7:43pm On May 21, 2020
Buhari endorsed Obaseki, Akeredolu for second term, says Oyegun

Olalekan Adetayo, Abuja
PUNCH

The immediate past National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, says the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), has endorsed an agreement that Governor Godwin Obaseki and Rotimi Akeredolu of Edo and Ondo states respectively be returned for second term unless they do not wish to continue in office.

The PUNCH reports that governorship election is scheduled to hold in Edo State on September 19 while that of Ondo State is slated for October 10.

Obaseki and Akeredolu, who are both members of the APC are first-term governors, and have expressed interest in second term in office.

Odigie-Oyegun, in an advertorial published in some national newspapers on Thursday, said he was aware that Buhari had endorsed that the two governors be given right of first refusal.

He, however, said since democracy did not encourage imposition, the party must also accept and present governorship aspirants.

He said, “I also welcome most warmly the news that Mr President has firmly endorsed the agreement reached to settle the disruptive leadership crisis at the national level that was threatening the very existence of the APC.

“The immediately relevant part of the agreement was that both the governors – Mr Godwin Nogheghase Obaseki of Edo State and Mr Oluwarotimi Akeredolu Aketi, SAN of Ondo State have performed creditably and should be returned unless they do not so wish.

“This means that the party, in unity, should organise to support the return of both governors.

“Our democracy of course has no room for imposition, so the party must accept and also present members that offer themselves to serve in the positions being occupied by the incumbent governors.”

In the case of Edo State, the former party chairman expressed the hope that a consensus can be built around Obaseki because he has performed well and has not offended any aspect of the party’s constitution.

If a consensus cannot be built, Odigie-Oyegun said “everything must be done to ensure that the persons in the leadership of the party at the centre who are part of the contrived crisis in Edo State must not even remotely be allowed to plan, participate or supervise the primary election.”

He said allowing any member of the national leadership involved in the crisis in the state would amount to making such person (s) judges in their own case.

He said such was contrary to the principle of natural justice and would be resisted.

“Transparency must start with the guidelines as to how the primary elections will be conducted,” he said.

Health / Covid 19: Akeredolu Urges Vigilance, Advises Against Self Medication by Ashleyeniwin(f): 7:19am On May 19, 2020
Covid 19: Akeredolu urges vigilance, advises against self medication

Ondo State Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, on Monday, May 18, 2020, asked the residents to be vigilant and come together to stop the spread of the Coronavirus disease.

He asked them to report all suspicious cases to the government for prompt and necessary actions.
Akeredolu, who spoke during the weekly press briefing on the deadly virus at the Government House in Akure, passionately appealed to the residents not to jeopardise their health through self medication.

While speaking on the four confirmed new cases of the virus in Ondo State, Akeredolu added that his government would continue to demonstrate the will and zeal to do all it takes to save the lives of the people of the state.

He said: "Of all the 20 cases so far confirmed in Ondo State, 13 have been successfully treated and discharged, one dead and six in bed, undergoing treatment. What is clear in this data is that COVID-19 can be treated if detected and reported early."

The governor recalled that the state government took some measures to stem the rave of the pandemic.

He mentioned such measures to include monitoring all entry points and blocking illegal routes into the state; and restriction of the operations of the main and community markets, among others.

The objectives of the measures, according to the governor, are to enforce social and physical distancing as well as restriction of unauthorised movements.

He said: "The goal is to stop imported cases and community transmission, both of which have been identified as the main sources of the spread in our State."

The governnor, however, praised the people for their substantial compliance with the regulations.
He also commended the security agencies for their sense of focus, professionalism and discretion.

Apart from saluting the health workers for their competency, the governor asked the people of the state to dedicate themselves to community care by reporting all suspicions to health workers through the rapid response team available on the specially designated toll-free numbers.

Governor Akeredolu, besides stresssing that the use of herbal combinations and orthodox medicine mostly being promoted and displayed on the social media and elsewhere are not yet authenticated and approved for clinical use, said: "While Government remains mindful of the challenges imposed upon all of us by this pandemic, I wish to emphasise that we will continue to take every lawful and necessary measures towards the welfare and protection of our people.

"We will do all to ensure freedom, confidence and prosperity for our people, including the right to seek the face of God almighty at all times and especially at these crucial times"

He therefore gave the hint that the government would be meeting with religious leaders and other stakeholders within the state to explore ways of returning religious worship to the society.

The governnor said: "We will accelerate such consultations and review and, without

doubt, the people will hear from me very soon.
"Meanwhile, let me state categorically that all containment regulations earlier pronounced by Ondo State Government are geared towards protection of the people and containment of the spread of the pandemic. So far, they have led us to modest success and they shall remain in force accordingly.

" Such measures include the dusk to dawn curfew, border and entry points closure, physical and social distancing, restrictions on business and market activities, compulsory use of face masks, guided burial and interment protocols as well as all personal hygiene practices.

“While substantial compliance with approved days and modes of operation has been noticed in the markets, a brazen and flagrant disobedience of these simple regulations by sellers and hawkers of non-essential item have also been noted.

"This particularly has to do with sellers and buyers of second-hand clothing and other fabrics, cosmetics, phone accessories and others in same category, especially in Akure the state capital and other city centres.

“For those in this category, who in defiance, insist on endangering the lives of others for their own selfish gain, let me use this opportunity, for the umpteenth time, to appeal to you to comply with the laid down regulations. It is for your own good."

Health / President Buhari Receives Madagascan Covid-19 Herbal “drug” From Guinea Bissau’s by Ashleyeniwin(f): 6:08pm On May 16, 2020
PRESIDENT BUHARI RECEIVES MADAGASCAN COVID-19 HERBAL “DRUG” FROM GUINEA BISSAU’S PRESIDENT EMBALO, SAYS “I WILL LISTEN TO SCIENCE”

President Muhammadu Buhari Saturday at the State House, Abuja, received the Madagascan native formulation against the Covid-19 pandemic, and reiterated that he will listen to science before allowing traditional or any new medicines to be administered on Nigerians.

At an audience meeting with President Umaro Sissoco Embalo of Guinea Bissau who brought along with him the samples of the traditional medicine as shared to African nations by Madagascar, President Buhari said his position on all such herbal or traditional medicinal postulates had remained the same.

“We have our institutions, systems and processes in the country. Any such formulations should be sent to them for verification. I will not put it to use without the endorsement of our institutions,” said the Nigerian President.

On the main reason for his visit, President Embalo said having stabilized his country after the tussles that attended the general elections won by him, he had come to seek counsel from his “father,” President Buhari on his plan for a “government of national unity” and a proposed war against corruption in his country.

He also said that his new government met a country beset with a number of issues and problems, the resolution of which would require tremendous assistance from the “big brother,” Nigeria.

“Problems of Guinea Bissau are problems of Nigeria. I have come to you as your son. I need your help and assistance to make the people happy. I will not let you down, neither will I put you in any difficult situation,” the visiting leader told President Buhari.

In response to these demands, the Nigerian leader commended “General“ Embalo on his confirmation as President and for stabilizing the country. “I commend your political dexterity in getting the opposition to join the proposed unity government,” he said.

President Buhari restated the determination of Nigeria to keep West Africa politically stable and promised to support the new government in Guinea Bissau. “I will cooperate and help in every way possible,” assured the Nigerian President.

President Buhari also used the opportunity of the visit to praise the good work that the President of Niger Republic, Mahamadou Issoufou, who is the current Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) is doing in the sub-region, and commended him for keeping him informed of all that is happening around.

ARAKUNRIN AKEREDOLU’S SON SPEAKS ON RECOVERED N4.3B

By Admin on May 15, 2020
I FOUND THE 4 BILLION! YOU ALSO CAN TOO. YOU CAN FIND IT IN THE SALARY ARREARS!

LOL. I’ve been reading a lot of this whole 4 Billion house Saga. I don’t even have to be an insider to be able to Follow The Money. My analysis as a citizen of Ondo State.

The Auditor general report that is being “leaked” was from 2018. Auditor general is an arm of the executive so it came from the executive. That means there must be a record somewhere approved by the administration. Where can one find a record of revenue of the State? The state budget. The budget is public at ondobudget.com
To know what happened in 2018, you have to review the 2019 budget summary for an actual revenue generated by the state in 2018. In 2018, there is a line item called “Cash Reserves and Rollover fund” of over 4 Billion.
Hmmm.

Is a 4 billion “cash reserves fund” regular in Ondo State? I reviewed all the other budgets from 2017, 2019 and 2020 and found that this was a unique year for rollover.

Oh look! I found the money in three clicks.

Then I asked myself, should 4Billion be an issue or should it be treated politically? I reviewed many of the other revenue generated and there are three other major revenue that were 2 to 3 times this figure that weren’t politicized.
Noise most unnecessary.

Then I asked. Ok, what exactly is 4 billion in the grand scheme of a state budget; Overall revenue for 2018 was N106B and actual budget was N181B. So budget performance was still only 58.5%. So even with that extra 4 billion, the state could barely meet half of its budgeted obligations.
Then I asked again, your total revenue in 2018 is N106B. How much of your money is capital vs recurrent expenditure? Since the administration is quite loud about its prompt payment of salaries and arrears.
According to NBS/Budgit, Ondo state has on average spent around 86% of its revenue on recurrent expenditure (salaries and pensions etc). So in summary, odds are that of that 4.3 Billon, 86% was spent on paying salaries and arrears.

Maybe that explains why in 2018, more arrears were paid than any other year of this administration. (Not to take away from the Paris club refund. That was a major factor also)

I have only 2 questions.

This was from 2018 and the audited report was submitted from the executive to the house since then. Why is it coming up now? This is rhetorical.
We all know why. It is all part of the game. This administration must play. 2020 LOADING! BATTLE OF THE SANS. One was called customer daa da in 2016. The contender is the new customer daa da.

I dont think it is a good strategy though. Records are public, there has been 2 budget defenses, hearings and all that senrere before now and no one thought to bring it up? Was the chairman of this committee sleeping on the job all this while?

Why isn’t anyone actually following the money? Lol, it is all there. The internet is a powerful tool people. USE IT TO DEVELOP YOURSELF!
We are probing 2018 when we ought to be asking the executive; what is the plan for a state post covid. What happens in 2020 and beyond when there is no more FAAC.

Covid has obliterated all revenues of all tiers of govt. The past is irrelevant, it is the future that matters.

We are playing around here. Let us continue to play politics with our future.

In the meantime, I’ve had the opportunity of chatting with the SSA on Innovation and Partnerships Joel Ogunsola who is working with the Chairman of the Internal Revenue Service on a strategy for an Ondo State post Covid. They have superb ideas the state is looking to implement.

I’ve contributed a detailed economic analysis developed by our friends at Dalberg on new economic opportunities in this Covid era to assist with their work. We are hopeful that this information will assist the state in developing promising solutions that will help the economy.

Politics / Aketi Is Working: Fight Against Covid19 by Ashleyeniwin(f): 8:06pm On May 10, 2020
AKETI IS WORKING: FIGHT AGAINST COVID19

The Ondo State Government led by Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu SAN has been proactive in curtaining the Corona virus pandemic and it's effect.

The government through "Kajeun Aketi", an initiative of PMG has successfully served over 15,000 meals to people across 6 local government areas with more local government to be covered in coming days

The governor recently approved the payment of hazard allowance to Health workers's in the state in a tune of 50% of their consolidated basic salary, a move that is expected to improve the efficiency of health workers as fight against Covid19 intensifies.

The effort of Gov. Akeredolu to enforce the ban placed on interstate movements has also helped in reducing the amount of risk on resident's of the state. He was the first governor to raise alarm over the level of compromise at the state border as people were still entering the state in large numbers despite the ban before the Coalition of South West Governor's took the matter with strong hands giving stricter warning that only vehicles conveying essential materials be allowed interstate movements.

With just below 10 active cases of Covid19 in the state, the government has been able to increase the bed capacity in its Isolation centres to 210 beds, a tenfold increase in capacity. The state government has started distributing about 500,000 nose mask to residents of the state to help citizens adhere to the order of the government that using of nose mask remains compulsory in the state, a proactive measure to reduce the spread of the virus

Last month, Palliatives Committee distributed the 1st/2nd phase of palliatives across 18 LGAs, an initiative aimed at easing the effect of the lock down.

We cannot undermine the effort of Mr Governor towards the fight against Covid19 and all we can hope for is a quick end to the pandemic.

Stay home,
stay safe.

COVID-19 : JIMOH IBRAHIM DONATES N40MILLION TO ONDO GOVT

As part of his philanthropic gesture towards the fight against the Covid-19 in Ondo State, Nigerian business mogul and politician, Dr. Jimoh Ibrahim (CFR), has donated N40Million to the state Government.

Ibrahim, who presented the cheque to the state Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, on Thursday, at the Government House, Alagbaka, Akure, said the state must as a matter of urgency declare the Covid-19 as a mega project with strategic plans to prevent the spread.

He assured the Governor of total support while hoping that the people will be fair enough to appreciate the efforts of the Governor so far.

Responding, Governor Akeredolu appreciated the gesture while assuring that the money will be spent judiciously on the fight against Covid-19.

The Governor informed that the state has established isolation center in the three senatorial districts of the state, adding that the State will also consider the suggestion of Jimoh Ibrahim by involving big private hospitals at the local governments.

Explaining why he declared dusk - to-dawn curfew, Governor Akeredolu said:"We have a problem that there could be community spreading. Some people prefer beer drinking to their lives. They filled the beer parlors at night and risk spreading potential and that's why we declared the curfew.'

He said the only way to stop the spread is when the people help themselves and cooperate with the Government on its directive.

"There are reason we take all these actions. We don't just wake up and issue directives. We are worried about the lives of our people. There is nothing wrong with staying at home for now. We are determined to do our best and work for our dear state." Akeredolu said.

The Governor called on the people to ensure that the protocol established are followed by regularly washing their hands and applying sanitizers.

Politics / Palliatives Not For Nigerians With More Than N5,000 Bank Balance by Ashleyeniwin(f): 8:11am On Apr 16, 2020
Palliatives not for Nigerians with more than N5,000 bank balance

THOSE with more than 5,000 in their bank accounts will not partake in the palliatives being planned by the Federal Government to mitigate the effects of the lockdown extension, the government clarified on Wednesday.
The clarification was made on Wednesday by the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs Disaster Management, Sadiya Farouq, in a chat with reporters at the State House in Abuja.
Explaining the modalities for the disbursement of the package, the minister said her ministry will focus on the urban poor in the implementation of President Muhammadu Buhari’s directive.
She said: “You are aware that the President in his broadcast of Monday, 13th April, directed that we expand the beneficiaries of the conditional cash transfer by one million and in this regard, we are going to focus more now on the urban poor.

“These are people who depend on the informal sector to earn their livelihood; they are daily wage earners and these are the people that we are really going to focus more on as well as people living with disabilities.”
On how her ministry plans to pick beneficiaries, the minister said: “Well, we have three options; one, we are going to use the national social register that we already have; two, we are also going to focus on the urban poor as I mentioned, by using their verified BVN accounts to get them, that is, people that have an account balance of N5, 000 and below.
“We are also using the mobile networks to know people that top up the credit units for their phones with may be N100 or less. Those are also people that we consider to be poor and vulnerable. So, these are the three options we are exploring and I am sure that by the time we get this data, we will be able to give this intervention.

GOV AKEREDOLU IMPOSES CURFEW ON ONDO OVER COVID-19

Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu,SAN, has ordered a dusk -to-dawn curfew on the state from 7pm to 7am as part of the efforts to contain the spread of Covid-19 in the state.

Governor Akeredolu, who made the announcement during a press conference held at the Government House, Alagbaka, Akure on Tuesday, said the curfew takes immediate effect as from Tuesday, 14th April, 2020 till further notice.

The Governor stressed that the state becomes more vulnerable as the third case is within the state with a tendency towards community transmission.

Arakunrin Akeredolu disclosed that he has also directed other sterner measures including arrest and detention of individuals found to have breached government’s directives on restriction of movement of persons and goods, operation of business premises and community markets, religious gatherings and public bars and other social activities within the state.

According to the Governor, only exceptions are where food and medical items are sold with total compliance with social and physical distancing.

Arakunrin Akeredolu said:"For avoidance of doubt the current case is not currently a serving member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) as earlier announced. He is an employee of the Nigerian Army Barracks who served as a medical practitioner in the same facility in the year 2017 and was retained."

According to the Governor, government is fully conscious of the pains and frustrations being currently experienced by the people, as a result of the existing restrictions and limitations, especially by those whose daily survival depends on daily wage such as menial workers, artisans and traders.

Governor Akeredolu said the food palliative measures which the state has commenced distributing was to further alleviate the difficulties and pains of the people.
