HealthAkeredolu And Ondo’s State Of Health by Ashleyeniwin(op): 12:26pm On Jul 29, 2019
By Fisayo Falodi
The World Health Organisation (WHO) defines health as a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. The world body also conceives health as the ability of a biological system to acquire, convert, allocate, distribute and utilise energy with maximum efficiency.

Armed with the above definitions, Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu rolled up his sleeves to introduce pragmatic policies and initiatives with the sole purpose of building a strong healthcare system aimed at promoting the general wellbeing of the people of Ondo State, as well as serve as the foundation for the all-round development of the state.

Because of his belief in the faultless, agelong maxim that “health is wealth,” the governor has broken down the barriers that had hitherto drawn back the progress of the Sunshine State to create a virile platform for comprehensive development, physical growth and social security of the entire state.

Amid approbation by the people of Ondo State, Akeredolu had in 2017 flagged off the polio national immunisation exercise at the state specialist hospital, Akure, to give assurance of a healthy, fruitful and productive energy to future generations.

Right before the dignitaries who attended the occasion, including the Deji of Akure, Oba Aladetoyinbo Aladelusi, senior government functionaries, religious leaders, representatives of non-governmental organisations and chairmen of the 18 local government areas, among others, Akeredolu vowed that his administration would ensure that polio is kicked out of the state. Consequently, the governor directed that machinery should be put in place to ensure that all eligible children were reached by vaccinators for the immunisation exercise.

From the available record, measles, described as deadly disease, kills no fewer than 800,000 children globally every year. It was for this reason that Akeredolu waged a virulent war against the deadly infectious disease.

So, the 2018 edition of the war against measles, according to watchers of governmental activities in Ondo State, achieved a reverberating success, as about 700, 000 children between the ages of nine months and five years were immunised against the disease.

Ondo State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Wahab Adegbenro, reiterated the success recorded from the vaccination exercise. He was excited that none of the 203 political wards in the state was left unvisited in the campaign against the measles eradication.

The State Specialist Hospitals in Akure and Ondo city also got a huge dose of Akeredolu’s intervention as he upgraded the two health facilities to teaching hospitals. To make the environment of the specialist hospital, Akure, more conducive and friendly, all the bad roads within the hospital were equally fixed and asphalted.

In what looks like democratising funding of healthcare delivery, Akeredolu has unveiled the state’s contributory health scheme as part of plans aimed at giving quality healthcare delivery system to the residents. The idea behind the contributory healthcare scheme, according to the governor, was to pool fund from the citizens and use it to procure medicare service to those who needed it.

Akeredolu had said: “A greater percentage of our indigenes find it very difficult to access good health care largely due to poverty. Qualitative health care lies within the reach of the rich, leaving the poor to helpless and hopeless. It is on record that many have gone to the great beyond before their time because of this.

“As part of our commitment to the health of people of the state who massively voted for us, the Bill on this Contributory Health Scheme was signed into Law on 6th February, 2018, barely within 72 hours of our arrival in office.”

No doubt, all residents of the Sunshine State, irrespective of their religious and political proclivities are bound to benefit in no small measure from the scheme whose major intentions are to protect and guarantee the poor and the vulnerable physical access to quality and affordable healthcare services, among others.

Aware that the provision of accessible and qualitative healthcare and social service would not be complete without qualified personnel to drive the novel idea, the governor mandated the state Ministry of Health to recruit more medical workers.

Akeredolu’s approval for the recruitment for more health workers came during his quarterly meeting with members of the State Task Force on Polio Eradication and Routine Immunisation in Akure. The governor wanted the new health workers to replace retiring medical personnel and enhance the delivery of medical services.

A further quest to place Ondo State in the global healthy community has yielded fruitful results following the governor’s move to secure a $6 million (about N2.1 billion) worth of new medical equipment from MedShare, a United States-based non-profit organisation in Atlanta. Akeredolu ordered the 20 container loads of the new medical equipment from MedShare to strengthen the state’s healthcare sector. A few months after the state governor partnered with MedShare, Ondo State secured up to 50 container loads of equipment to equip all its hospitals and health centres with new state-of-art medical facilities.

So, it was a celebration galore on June 24, 2019 at the Central Medical Store, Akure, when Akeredolu flagged-off the distribution of the first batch of the state-of-the-art biomedical equipment to all the health facilities in the state. The four containers offloaded as of the time the governor distributed the equipment and other consumables contained over 250 sophisticated electric bed, 50 stretchers, intensive care unit beds and monitors, delivery beds, surgical instruments, incubators and infusion pumps, among others.

The attempt to ensure that no part of the Sunshine State is shortchanged in accessing the robust healthcare services gave birth to the move to approve five additional Mother and Child Hospitals for the three senatorial districts of the state.

This is besides the introduction of free healthcare service for expectant mothers and children from age zero to five years.

Critical observers labeled the various pro-health initiatives put forward by Akeredolu as laudable and the right step. Mr. Kayode Sule, a lecturer with the Federal College of Agriculture, Akure, and Mrs. Olayinka Aderigbe, a private health practitioner based in the Southern Senatorial District of the state, scored the governor high. They both expressed the strong belief that with the governor’s dream of creating all-round development through investment in the health sector, Ondo State is unarguably set to tread the path of industrial growth. The observers hinged their belief on the fact that a healthy man is an undisputable asset for the development of his community. According to them, the multiplier effects of Akeredolu’s deliberate investment in the Sunshine State health sector will be unquantifiable.

AKEREDOLU RE INVENTING ONDO STATE

Leadership is an action, not a position. It’s what a leader does today that will make a great difference in the future of those they lead. In a lecture in December 2009, Akeredolu said no amount of electoral reform or judicial system could give Nigeria free and fair elections, if Nigerians themselves refused to take practical steps to ensure that their votes count.
On Saturday, 26 November 2016, Akeredolu challenged the people of Ondo state to come out and take their future in their hands by reminding them again, that only them and them alone can take the practical step that will ensure that their votes count. On Sunday, 27 November 2016 Akeredolu was announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission as the winner of the Ondo State Governorship Election with a landslide victory.
According to the INEC Returning Officer Prof. Ganiyu Ambali, Akeredolu defeated two major opponents, Eyitayo Jegede of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) and Olusola Oke of the Alliance for Democracy (AD), to clinch the victory. With the overwhelming victory of Governor Akeredolu Odunayo Oluwarotimi, Ondo state has not stop experiencing year of happiness from the overwhelming infrastructural projects going on in the 18 local government areas of the state. In education, health and social services, agriculture and natural resource development, infrastructure and public utilities, commerce and industrial development, rural development and community extension services, culture and tourism, lands, housing and environment , women affairs and social development, information, orientation, mobilization, Youth and sport, structure of government, planning and management of the state resource etc.
Governor Akeredolu has unbeatable completed roads projects across Ondo State such as:

2.5km Hewlet, Ogbo Omo, Igbadara
Ayegunle road in Ifon.
2.5km internal roads in GRA, Owo
The dualization of adjoining roads in Owo.
Dualization of 4.3km Ikare township road,
7.1km road in Owo
The 7.8km Akure-Ijoka-A Divison road.
Iyere – ipele – idoani road
Access road in Powderize egg factory at Emure
parking lot at Akure airport
construction of Ondo Boys High school internal road network
Dualization of CBN road, akure
Construction of Subeb Sijuade road, akure;
Repair of approach slabs of Alape
Aboto bridge in ilaje.
Dualization of A Division to ijoka is 8.14km.
The Oke -Alabojuto /Ikare dualisation

All these roads projects have been completed among others.

The Oke -Alabojuto /Ikare dualisation road project is a breath taken road project which has been abandon by previous government. Yet, the works continue unabated across the state. 3km Okelisa and Bajare roads in Idanre; Oke-Ogba road in Akure, Alagbaka-High Court-SIB road also in Akure; Gaga road in Aluke; Igbaraoke-Ibuji road; Isharun township roads and Bolodunro-Fagbo road in Ondo town. 1.5km Abusoro road in Akure; 2.0km Iwalewa-Alafiatayo-Hospital-Oshinle road in Akure has been awarded. Fiwasaye-Airport street light project is also ongoing. Sabomi-Ajagba road is at 95% completion, while work is ongoing on Police Station road in Ore. Work has also reached 97% completion on Okitipupa-Ayeka-Irele road.
Schools across Ondo state are now safer for our children to study with about 500 primary schools constructed and the renovation of over 200 primary schools across the state with free school feeding for children in primary schools.
Akeredolu has carried out renovation of libraries to improve reading culture among students and the re-introduction of science and technology in secondary schools and renovation of all secondary technical schools including upgrading and equipping. Consistent training of teachers for adequate capacity building is being carried out to mention a few.
Akeredolu achievements are unequalled compared to his predecessors.
In terms of worker’s welfare, he has performed far better than Governors before him. He met about seven months’ salary arrears and has cleared six months remaining outstanding. Since he came into office, he has never owed any worker, he has been paying monthly salaries as at when due, and he made worker’s welfare his priority.
The tertiary institutions are better funded. It is the same in the health sector and everybody can feel what the governor is doing. I believe the AKETI DREAM has been a great success and filled with unprecedented achievements.
Governor Akeredolu determination to strengthen and improve the health facilities and the well-being of Ondo State people, has brought about the distribution of multi-million naira lifesaving medical and laboratory equipment to all hospitals and Health Centers with new state of art medical facilities from MedShare, a U.S.-based non-profit organization in Atlanta which worth $6 million (about N2.1 billion).
The governor ordered 20 containers load of new medical equipment from MedShare to strengthen the state’s healthcare. Akeredolu said the partnership with MedShare would see the state securing up to 50 containers load of equipment for all hospitals and health centers.
In an interview before the election that produced Akeredolu as the 18th Governor in Ondo State. He said, he had become well known and respected as president of the bar, and described himself as a progressive. If elected, his priorities would include agricultural development, fish farming for export, improvements to education, and jobs for youths and improved roads. He would provide free education and primary health care. He was in favor of increased subsidies and greater local control over public spending.
Governor Akeredolu is the first Governor in Ondo state who has been prudent with the resource of the state, while other governors across the country are buying brand new vehicles for their aids and political appointees. Governor Akeredolu saw the need to renew numerous broken and unserviceable vehicles at significantly low cost compares to the acquisition of brand new vehicles. This prudent characteristic of Akeredolu has helped save the state’s resources and put a stop to wastage. He has put an end to the practices of abandoning serviceable vehicles to buy new ones.
Akeredolu has not seized to promote his vision for the Ondo state people. He kept a clear vision of where Ondo State should be in the nearest future. His promise and work has stayed connected to his shared strategic goals of improving the standard of living for the people of Ondo state.
In terms of managing risk. Successful leaders are always scanning the horizon for risks as well as opportunities—or for the two in combinations, as they often are. Akeredolu has Learn the art of constantly weighing costs and benefits, probabilities and prospective outcomes.
Akeredolu creativity of finding solutions around the hard economy reality of the state has created jobs for artisans once again in the state as most workers were hired within the state.
Akeredolu accomplishments as governor of Ondo state have been universally acknowledged. Recently he emerged chairman of the South West Governors’ Forum. Akeredolu became Chairman at a Special Security Meeting of Governors from the South West region. The meeting was held to address the growing spate of insecurity in the South West Region.
Nigeria is in need of a good leadership model that can leverage on the abundance of natural and human resources the country is blessed with to initiate transformational social and economic changes that West Africa will be proud of. This gift of leadership has the Good Lord bless the Ondo State people with.
It is remarkable and pertinent to mention that at least on two occasions Akeredoulu Oluwarotimi has attested to the virtues of servant leadership as originally propounded by Robert K. Greenleaf. First at an event hosted by OSRC TV ‘tagged’ EVENING WITH THE GOVERNOR in June 2019, Governor Akeredolu stated his service and stewardship to his people, thereby giving his people the platform to asked questions about his two years in office and his initiatives and also bring to the attention of the Governor the areas where the Governor has not been completely active.
“Akeredolu said; let us focus on our strength and skills as clear indications of what we can do as a people. The leader is only one man. But with your support and cooperation Ondo state will become a state to envy in Nigeria”.
Second, as a speaker in the south west security summit held by the SW Governors Forum in June 2019, the Chairman, Akeredolu described a good leader as one capable of showing clear sensibility to the feelings of the led about critical issues’ adding that there should be no disagreement in the aspiration for service, if altruism is the focus. Our seeming difference, considering political platforms, should not stand in the way of commitment to promote the collective well-being of our people.
Governor Akeredolu Oluwarotimi Odunayo of Ondo state is the most social and scandal free governor we have in Nigeria. He has a benevolent heart towards people and is going the extra mile to transform Ondo state into a 21st century city. Something others before him failed to do. Failed woefully! He is jovial; he is a governor of life indeed! The first Governor in the history of Ondo State to appoint physical challenged persons as Special Adviser.
Akeredolu managing priorities is next to none. ‘The better you can prioritize the things you have to do, the better you can focus your efforts on the things that matter most. Without clear priorities, you’ll end up spending significant time and energy on unimportant tasks’.

PoliticsSnake In Ondo Assembly: Gov Lambasts Lawmakers, Accuses Them Of Blackmail by Ashleyeniwin(op): 11:42am On Jul 29, 2019
Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State has lambasted members of the State House of Assembly over the allegation that snakes prevented them from carrying out their legislative duties.

Akeredolu, who visited the Assembly complex after the report that snakes chased out lawmakers from the plenary session, accused the lawmakers of trying to blackmail the state government for pecuniary gains.

But the spokesperson of the Assembly, Hon. Gbenga Omole insisted that they saw snake in the chambers on Wednesday and that parts of the Assembly caved-in on Thursday, leading to their adjournment.

An enraged Akeredolu, who visited the Assembly on Friday, said the lawmakers did not tell the world the truth about the event in the hallowed chamber, but fabricated lies in order to blackmail the executive arm of government.

The lawmakers had hurriedly adjourned indefinitely last week Thursday over the allegation that snakes prevented them from sitting at the hallowed chamber and that part of the roof of the chamber caved in where the Speaker of the Assembly usually sits.

The Chairman of the House Committee on Information, Omole, had, after the hurried adjournment, said: “When we were about to enter into plenary, a big snake just ran out of the chamber which disrupted our sitting and we had to hurriedly leave the chamber.

“We are about to seat again today when a ceiling caved-in directly where Mr. Speaker was sitting, the whole House was agitated and when we looked around, we saw the damage the termite had done to most of the woodwork in the ceiling.

“At that point, we had to call ourselves and adjourned the sitting. That chamber is no longer safe for legislative business and because of that, we decided to adjourn indefinitely. The House will be going on an indefinite recess.”

However, when Akeredolu visited the Assembly complex, he accused the lawmakers of blackmail and an attempt to hoodwink the unsuspecting members of the public about the happenings in the Assembly.

Akeredolu said: “Did you see any green snake here? You said snake chased you out of this place and that you adjourned sine-die. How did you combine what happened here yesterday with your snake if it is not grand connivance by yourselves?

“How did you come about snake yesterday and day before yesterday? How did you combine it and said snake fell on your head? The media took your point and said snake fell on you and you all kept quiet. This House has stayed here for several years. If termites go into this place and eat it, no doubt unless you treat this place for termite, it will fall down.

“What I have come to do is to verify what has happened. I have seen that what has happened is that there is an attempt to blackmail the state and I think the government will not take it. I was given the facts and I want to be sure that the Speaker and that most of the officers are here.

“No snake fell here yesterday or day before yesterday, they were not sitting when the ceiling came down. They only met the ceiling that it came down. It was not that they were sitting. And all the pictures that were put up there are fake. There was no sitting; the ceiling did not collapse while they were sitting. How did you come about that story? How did you come about putting one giant snake or python; it does not exist here. How did you come about it?

“There is an attempt to blackmail the government and I don’t believe that is the best approach. This is an arm of government and they have their vote and what they are entitled to, is the one we give them. This place is termite infested and certainly, the termites have been dwelling here for several years. We have just come for two years; there is no way termites’ infestation in two years would cause such destruction.

“Something is wrong, this place has not been maintained and members of the House have always been here, what have they done about the maintenance of this place? If they have not been concerned about it, we have to sit down at the table and work things out.”

The Speaker of the Assembly, Mr. Bamidele Oleyelogun, in his response blamed the media for blowing the incident beyond proportion and said the snake incident on Wednesday had been a periodic occurrence in the past, but was not the reason for adjournment of the house on Thursday.

Oleyelogun said members of Assembly met the roof of the chamber already caved in as a result of termite infestation on Thursday and, as such, the House could not commence proceedings.

But the spokesperson of the Assembly said the lawmakers were not out to blackmail the government as insinuated by the governor.

Omole said: “The truth of the matter is that that place needs attention. The way they merged the issue of snake with the collapsed part of the building is the issue. The termites have eaten the roof of the building.

“To set the record straight, we never sat on Wednesday and Thursday. Actually, we wanted to sit on Thursday, but when we came in, some part of the roof have caved-in. I granted the interview that on Wednesday that there was snake and we could not sit, it is not that snake chased us out of the chamber. That was what everybody wrote. Journalists have liberty to write what they wanted to write.

“On the issue of termites, everybody knows that place needs a facelift; that is a fact that the governor knows. It is the joining of snake with termite that embarrassed the governor. The governor accused us of blackmail, why is it that the past leadership of the House has not done anything about it? Every year, they put renovation of the Assembly in the budget and it was not implemented. The executive brings in budget and you passed it. The place where the budget is passed is termite-infested.

“It is not going to be business as usual. That is my own stand as the spokesperson of the House. Do they not repair their own offices? There was a snake on Wednesday. On Thursday when we were about to sit, we discovered termites have eaten the roof. The question is that, termites did not start eating in the last two years. It has been the failure of the leadership of the House in the past Assembly.

“The truth is that they will give them small money and they will pass the budget, the one that concerns them will not be addressed. We are not going to take that this time around. We cannot say because we are friends to the governor, we will not say the truth: they repair their offices. Let us expose the leadership of the House, the Speaker said money is voted for the renovation every year, but it is not backed with cash. They did not release money for repair, yet you pass their budgets.

“They want to borrow money now. I am a member of the Appropriation Committee. They want to borrow N30 billion. If they did not do what we want, we will not allow that to happen. Out of the money, they said they want to rehabilitate Accountant General’s office, you want to repair the Accountant General’s office, and you don’t want to repair the independent arm of government. It is not going to happen. The worst is that they will not give us second term, but we will do what the people of Ondo State like.”

PoliticsBuhari To Submit Ministerial List To Senate This Week, Says Lawan by Ashleyeniwin(op): 3:30pm On Jul 11, 2019
The waiting game for the submission of the list of ministerial nominees will end this week, Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, has said.

Lawan said that President Muhammadu Buhari who had been working hard to conclude work on the ministerial list would submit the list to the Senate before the end of the week.

Lawan spoke in plenary on Wednesday following a Point of Order by Senator Albert Bassey Akpan (Akwa Ibom North East.

Senator Akpan who came under personal explanation prayed the Senate to mount pressure on President Buhari to transmit the ministerial nominee list to the chamber for consideration and approval.

The Akwa Ibom North East senator reminded his colleagues that the Senate would embark on its annual recess within the next two weeks.

He stressed the need for President Buhari to transmit the list before the recess.

Akpan said, “Mr. President, in view of the yearly long recess of the Senate and the House of Representatives, will embark upon in two weeks time, there is need to urge President Muhammadu Buhari to forward the much expected ministerial list to the Senate for screening and confirmation.

“This is very important because if such list is not made available for the required legislative attention before we embark on the long recess, there will be no ministers and by extension, the federal cabinet for the President to work with till September.

“Making the list more urgent now from the President before our long recess, is the fact that if it is not made available, the concerted effort being made by both arms of government to return to the yearly budget cycle to January- December, will be defeated.

“On this note, I call on the President of the Senate to inform President Muhammadu Buhari of the need for the ministerial list before we embark on recess.”

Lawan informed his colleagues that the list would be released before the end of the week.

He said: “Let me on the strength of this motion, inform the Senate that the Executive arm of government is working very hard on the ministerial list.

“In fact, the list, based on information at my disposal, will be forwarded to us by the President before the end of this week.

“May I, therefore, appeal to us all, to be ready to make the necessary sacrifice in terms of sufficient time, to be spent in carrying out thorough screening and confirmation of appointments of the expected ministerial nominees.”

Lawan said that senators should be prepared to make the necessary sacrifice to screen the nominees when the list is submitted.

PoliticsOndo Re-run: Court Strikes Out Case Against Senator, INEC by Ashleyeniwin(op): 2:50pm On Jul 11, 2019
A Federal High Court sitting in Akure, Ondo State Capital, has dismissed the application filed by the Candidate of Action Alliance (AA), Mr. Olatunji Felder, seeking to nullify the victory of Senator Nicholas Tofowomo, representing Ondo South District at the National Assembly.

The court also awarded the sum of N200,000 cost against Felder, candidate of the AA.

Felder from Oke-Igbo with Ileoluji/Okeigbo Local Government, took the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to court over the conduct of supplementary election of March 9 by the commission.

He alleged that INEC did not officially inform him by issuing a 14 days notice before the commission proceeded with the election where he came a distant third after the close of polls in 56 polling units.

On February 23, Tofowomo polled 79,036 to defeat his closest rival, the incumbent Senator, Yele Omogunwa of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, who scored 51,993, with vote margins of 27,036 and Olatunji Felder of the AA coming behind Omogunwa with third position.

But, the poll was declared inconclusive because the victory margin was less than the total votes cancelled in 56 polling units of four councils estimated at 28,300 votes, which necessitated the supplementary election conducted by INEC.

After the supplementary election, INEC Returning Officer for the district, Prof. Kayode Onifade, declared Tofowomo winner with 81,892 votes against Omogunwa’s 55,610.

But Felder, who was in third position went to the Federal High Court in Alagbaka, Akure, to challenge the conduct of the supplementary election.

Justice Folasade Olubanjo, however struck out the case for lack of merit.

PoliticsAkeredolu To Cabinet: The People Expect More From Us by Ashleyeniwin(op): 1:15pm On Jul 11, 2019
The Governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN has reiterated his commitment to the welfare of the people of the state, as he charged members of the State Cabinet to brace up to the challenges ahead. "The people expect more from us", he said.

Governor Akerdolu spoke yesterday at the meeting of the State Executive Council, the first since the inuaguration of a new Head of Service, Oluwadare Aragbaiye as well as a minor cabinet reshuffle arising from the appointment of five Commissioners and two Special Advisers.

The Governor said:
In spite of the dwindling finances everywhere in the country, we have no excuse to fail the people of the state who have invested their confidence in the government. Ours is to continue to discharge our responsibility as effectively as we can.

The primary responsibility of government is to provide for the people, their basic needs some of which are statutory obligations which are more often, described as dividends of democracy.

The modest achievements so far recorded notwithstanding, there is still much to be done and the people are more expectant by the day. We therefore have no reason to fail the good people of the state, that is not an option.

By this charge, cabinet members have an obligation to be closer to the people at the grassroots as good ambassadors of government. Therefore, the more effective way to endear the government to the people lies in the conscious efforts of cabinet members to visit their local governments regularly, at least one a week.

The new commissioners are: Rt. Hon Fatai Olotu(Lands and Housing), Hon. Temitayo Oluwarotimi(Natural Resources), Mrs Titilayo Adeyemi(Women Affairs and Social Development), Adedotun Owanikin, Esq and Mrs Yetunde Adeyanju (Water Resources, Public Sanitation and Hygiene).

The advisers include: Hon. Babatunde Kolawole(Community and Rural Development) and Hon. Oyebo Aladetan(Niger Delta Matters).

PoliticsGov. Akeredolu Acquires New Amphibious Excavator To Tackle Flooding In Ondo by Ashleyeniwin(op): 4:36pm On Jul 10, 2019
As part of its efforts to combat the perennial flooding problems ravaging various parts of Ondo State, the State Government, under the administration of Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, has acquired the brand new latest model of Amphibious Excavator (CAT 320D2).

Governor Akeredolu said the Amphibious Excavator is required in the state for dredging and clearing of waterways, as well as for temporary channelisation in the state.

Speaking during the commissioning of the Amphibious Excavator on Tuesday, Arakunrin Akeredolu said due to its geographical location, the state is prone to flooding, especially during the rainy season.

The Governor explained that flooding often lead to loss of lives and properties and also stalls movement during the rainy season, with high incidence in Akure, Owo, Ondo, Ikare, Ore, Igbokoda, Okitipupa and other urban centers, all with dire implications on the socio - economic activities of the people.

He said : " It's anticipated that this will no longer be a problem as the Amphibious Excavator (Swamp buggy) would be used to combat perennial flooding problems ravaging various parts of the state."

The Governor said it became imperative to procure the Amphibious Excavator following the need to replace the old and faulty one acquired in 2015, which was no longer in good working condition to tackle the challenges encountered across the State.

According to Arakunrin Akeredolu, it is also neccessary for the state to get prepared, in view of the Nigerian Metrological Agency (NiMet) forecast of intensive rains across the state this year.

He described the gesture as a testament of his administration's commitment to the well-being and safety of the good people of the state, while urging the ministry incharge to see to its good use and maintenance.

PoliticsOoni, Soyinka React To Threats By Northern Youths On RUGA Settlement by Ashleyeniwin(op): 3:51pm On Jul 08, 2019
Following the 30-day ultimatum given by a group of Northern youths asking governors opposed to the idea of Ruga Settlements to back down or risk Southerners living in the North being asked to leave the region, some prominent Nigerians are calling for deliberate efforts to douse rising ethnic tensions across the country.

Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, and the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi have add their voice to other Nigerians who have condemned the threat by group.

In a statement jointly signed by Prof. Soyinka and Oba Ogunwusi, they warned that Nigeria cannot survive another upheaval of the magnitude of the 1966-1970 Civil War and that every effort must be made to prevent another one.

While acknowledging the right of the Northern group to make their demand as allowed by freedom of expression, they in the exercise of the same right called on all Nigerian nationals to defend the sanctity of their ancestral lands, adding that this birthright remains inviolate, even under colonial occupation.

The statement quote, “We call on the Nigerian people to recognize that the internal colonization project is ever recurrent, that there are backward, primitive, undeveloped minds that have failed, and continue to fail to overcome delusions in this antiquated belief in sectarian domination as the key to social existence, a belief that despises peaceful cohabitation that is based on mutual respect.”

However, both men called on Nigerians at all levels, to step up discussions on the future structure of the nation, and take steps to preserve and enhance their distinct cultural identities.

Prof. Soyinka and Oba Ogunwusi emphasized the rights of every Nigerian and community or group of human beings as primary and pre-eminent over and above all other parameters of human development or formal associations.

PoliticsAkeredolu's Aide Clarifies Statement On Social Intervention Programme by Ashleyeniwin(op): 1:10pm On Jul 05, 2019
The Ondo State Government is facilitating a strategy to ensure that programmes meant to impact on the people in the eighteen local government areas of the state live up to expectations of both the government and the people.

The various social intervention programmes are carefully being implemented to avoid a situation where those in the urban areas feature for intervention programmes that are meant to improve sicio-economic and political existence of the people and the areas in general.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Public and Intergovernmental Relations, Mrs Olubunmi Ademosu who was speaking at a programme organised by Sumshine Integrity Group to boost the second term bid of Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu SAN emphasized that many national and global ideas that have been enjoyed in other states for years were just facilitated by the Governor.

Mrs Ademosu who highlighted the intervention programmes which include N-Power, N-Build and Public Workfare under the Youth Employment and Social Support Operations (YESSO) emphasized that over thirty thousand youths have benefited and are still benefiting in the state.

She explained that over enrolment and registration of beneficiaries of the Public Workfare in the pilot six local government areas is currently being completed as no fewer than six thousand vulnerable youths and women are to be engaged with monthly remuneration.
Ademosu therefore advised the people of Ondo State to consider the pace of development being witnessed as the next governorship election approaches.

The Special Adviser described as untrue a report that she accused party leadership of diverting funds meant for Home Grown School Feeding Programme wondering how funds paid directly into the accounts of the beneficiaries could be diverted.

Mrs Ademosu stressed that the present administration in the country has moved from giving physical cash to beneficiaries of its programmes , noting that money is now paid directly into individual accounts.

She emphasized that the basic statement she made was that those in the urban areas should not deprive those in the rural areas of benefiting from the carious programmes designed and being implemented in the State , many of which have never been witnessed in the state.

Mrs Ademosu therefore called on media practitioners to clarify their stories before publication to avoid misrepresentation of facts and therefore called on umbrella bodies to flush out quacks among them.

Ondo State governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, and his Ekiti State counterpart, Dr. John Kayode Fayemi have commenced joint intervention on the deplorable state of the Akure - Ikere Road.

Governor Akeredolu who visited the road on Thursday evening said the intervention became neccessary due to the hues and cries the bad state of the road has generated.

The Governor said the joint intervention involves a remedial work on the road to make it passable for commuters and travellers.

He stressed that himself and Governor Fayemi has mounted more than enough pressure on the Federal Government to reconstruct the road.

According to the Governor, the pressure mounted on the Federal Government led to the redesigning of the road's plan to a dual carriage road.

He stated that they become very worried that the construction of the road by the Federal Government was taking with its attendant deteriorating effects.

Governor Akeredolu explained that himself and Governor Fayemi have approached the Africa Development Bank (ADB) to get loan for the construction of the road while the Federal Government would reimburse the two states later.

Akeredolu said : "We have heard the hues and cries of the people on this road. What we are trying to do now is to get some remedial work done on the road till we begin the construction

"The governor of Ekiti State and I have mounted more than enough pressure for the Federal Government to do this road. We have mount enough pressure and that has led to the redesigning of the road and the only thing left is the construction to start. But it's taking too long

"So, we have approached the ADB to give us loan. The two states will get the loan and reconstruct the road and get reimbursement later. "

PoliticsMy Govt’s Performance In Power Supply Not Good Enough –buhari by Ashleyeniwin(op): 11:16am On Jul 04, 2019
President Muhammadu Buhari admitted on Wednesday that the performance of his administration in the power sector was “not good enough”, saying that this called for more efforts by Electricity Distribution Companies to provide the needed resources and technical expertise.

He stated that the Federal Government would play its own part by improving the transmission of electricity.

Buhari spoke in Abuja when the Oba of Benin, Omo N’Oba N’ Edo Ewuare II, led members of the Edo State Council of Traditional Rulers and chiefs on a visit to the President at the Presidential Villa.

The Oba, who sought the President’s intervention on the power supply situation in Edo State, had described it as a “pathetic situation.”

But Buhari appealed to Nigerians for calm, while urging them to be patient with the Discos to deliver on their mandate.

A statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina, quoted the President as saying that though his administration had put in its best to improve power in the past years, especially improvement in gas supplies, the performance was not good enough.

“We are building infrastructure. We are doing our best, but, obviously, our best is not good enough yet”, the Presidency quoted Buhari as saying.

Buhari praised the monarchs for their combined efforts in tackling trafficking in persons and rehabilitating the victims, who were repatriated back home.

“I am pleased that you have taken up the fight against human trafficking and I know the effect of your intervention will be felt beyond our borders,” the President told his visitors.

Buhari spoke on the Benin-Abuja Road project and his administration’s efforts to develop the agricultural sector, “promising that more will be done to diversify and strengthen the Nigerian economy.”

Oba Ewuare II, while congratulating Buhari for winning a second term, prayed God to guide him in picking a formidable cabinet.

He seized the opportunity to call on Buhari to give two ministerial slots to Edo State.

“We pray the Almighty God to help you put in place a formidable team of men and women of proven integrity that will join you to take this nation to the next level.

“Considering that Edo State is the only All Progressives Congress state in the South-South, may we crave Mr President’s indulgence to have two (ministerial) slots,” he said.

The monarch also appealed to the President to urgently intervene to resolve the political disagreement between Governor Godwin Obaseki and the National Chairman of the APC, Mr Adams Oshiomhole.

Ewuare II added, “Mr President, we as traditional rulers in Edo State are concerned about the crisis between Adams Oshiomhole, the APC National Chairman and Governor Obaseki.

“If this crisis is not resolved now with immediate effect, it may jeopardise the progress of the state.

“On behalf of the good people of Edo State, we kindly appeal to Mr President to use your good offices to intervene and stop this crisis.”

The management of Akure Airport has expressed appreciation to the Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu’s administration in Ondo State over the impressive patronage of the airport since the Governor assumed office in 2017.

The Airport management said the impressive patronage came about through the personal interventions of the Governor.

Speaking during a courtesy visit to the governor on Tuesday , the Airport Manager, Mrs Joke Olatunji said the Akure Airport has never witnessed the level of activities going on there now, since the airport commenced operations in 1986.

The Manager said through the personal interventions of the State Governor, Airpeace started the Lagos–Akure Route which has now become a daily flight and the Abuja-Akure Route, which used be to occasional with Overland, was made stable and equally now coming daily.

Mrs Olatunji also recalled the support given by the governor for the construction of a temporary Terminal and the VIP parking space which she said were the resultant effects of the increase in the patronage of the Airport.

However, the Manager pleaded with the State Governor to step up his interventions for the Airport which she said was one of the designated Cargo Airports in Southwest Nigeria.

In his remarks, Governor Akeredolu expressed joy that the efforts at bringing Airpeace to commence Lagos-Akure Routes and Overland to increase his flight days to Akure from Abuja have turned out productive as both routes have now become self-sustaining.

He said the development has positively scale-up investment inflows into the Sunshine State as several genuine investors prefer Ondo State above other states.
