Travel › Re: Every Nigeria City Should Learn Something From The Collapse Of Warri. by Asine: 7:52pm On May 15, 2023 |
tomitrace: War destroys cities: Every Nigeria City or aspiring city should learn something from the Collapse of Warri as Oil City👇👇👇
Warri was a big industrial hub in the 70's - 90's.
Warri Refinery, NNPC, DSC, Delta Glass, Shell, Chevron, Schlumberger, Dunlop, Agip, Saipem, Halliburton were in full operation back then. Escravos & Forcados were at their peak.
The city thrived. The city was full of zeal and zestful activities. People living outside hardcore Warri called themselves Wafarians because of propinquity to Warri even though they were not Wafarians. To be a Wafarian was to belong to supposedly a unique lifestyle.
Multinational/Local Banks were present Citibank, FBN, ACB, Savannah Bank.
Business activities thrived. Warri port was a beehive of economic activities Entertainment/Night life was at its peak, Musicians, Live bands at Palmgroove Hotel, Comedians held their sway: Fela, legendary Don Baker, Majek Fashek, Emma Grey, Oritz Wiliki, Rex Lawson were a few of many of the entertainers that made Warri ebullient. Lido, Zina, etc were comparable to their ilks anywhere.
The town was full of life and it thrived.
McDermot road was busy with Maritime activities and contractors. Kingsway Mall offered anything sold in Lagos at that time.
Joma & Mosheshe were big fish distributors across the Niger Delta.
Rubber produced locally, was used to produce plastics and tyres.
The town grew in size and became a conurbation with people coming from all over the country to settle down in Warri for economic activities.
The Airports were super busy, Escravos, Forcados & Warri Airport. The Warri Airport was even relocated to Osubi for expansion.
Warri was revelling in its glory. Warri Port was fully operational and served as an economic booster for the city. It served businesses in Warri, Benin, Asaba & Onitsha. The Port created huge employment opportunities for locals and the state.
Things started to go downhill from the late 90's. The community leaders and youth chairmen began to fight themselves over control/sharing formula for royalties that came from oil & businesses from settlers.
Itsekiri, Urhobo & Ijaw leaders & youths started fighting each other. The bloody fight started around 1999 and lasted for years till 2003/2004.
The community leaders started imposing local taxes called "Deve" on all companies, industries and local businesses, buildings & projects.
Little by little, the companies frustrated, started leaving.
This continued throughout the early 2000's till 2010. The companies kept on leaving, one after the other. The companies layed off their employees. Unemployment rose.
More companies left for PH, Lagos, Akwa Ibom. They layed off more staff. Unemployment increased still.
Today all that is left in Warri, is a shadow of its glorious past.
95% of all the big companies in Warri had either left or closed down.
Most of the young people have left Warri.
The ones left are driving Keke, doing P.O.S, Spa or Boutique, Beer parlour or doing hookup.
There's peace now, but the damage the greedy community leaders did to Warri, still lingers on and is almost irredeemable at this point.
Do not assume that your city can not be destroyed if it toes the same route Warri followed. Warri leaders did not ever believe that Warri will be this economically empty today while they were fighting then. Learn from Warri and protect our economies
Have you asked why big eeconomies like US, China, etc will never allow war in their countries?
We must learn and avoid things that will trigger war in our country no matter how strong we believe we are. Businesses and investors go where there is peace than where there is war.
Follow us on This Is Nigeria Lovely writeup! The intertribal war really caused a lot of damage then. |

I spoke with my friend who is a sales executive in one of Nigeria's biggest consumer brands and he told me that they are considering a package for her.
BTW
I have been on nairaland since 2012,lost my first account, opened this in 2016,I have not been someone who is ethnically biased. But this election thought me otherwise.
Just see what those who accuse other tribes of tribalism and hate are doing to Former record holder that Hilda Baci is trying to break.
They went to insult her on her page. This is so not right. So because internet gives them access to her page, they just go there and write nonsense. |

How can you sentence a man that wrote to your embassy about his intention to take someone to UK for the purpose of organ donation. The donor is not a minor. What nonsense law do they practice in the uk They lied that the boy was a relative and they were able to get the boy visa with their connections in Nigeria using false information. Even though the donor isn't a minor, He is just 21 and they obviously were exploiting him. |

Not even talking about my girlfriend, a friend of mine called me one day and was sounding funny, the dude told me that he's done, he's leaving this night, I didn't quite understand what he meant at first but I decided to equire more, he was withholding information, I had to call people around to go check on him, they rushed and saw the guy, laying lifeless on the tiles inside his room, he took snipper already, they force two bottle of red oil down his throat and rushed him to the hospital, thank God he was saved,
Turns out dude was owing plenty lapo and online loans, we gathered money and cleared the bill even before he is discharged from the hospital, dude is happily married now and doing very well financially, thats what friends should be all about, you should be sensitive and observant, it very important You really saved his life ! God bless you for being so sensitive to send people to check on him immediately. |

Health › Re: Please Help, My Son Has Dandruff For Over 8years Now by Asine: 1:38pm On Apr 19, 2023 |
7david7: Good morning my people, I am writing you people at this delicate hour of 12:39am because my son's condition, it's getting worse by the day.
Dandruff wants to kill this beautiful boy, I know it's weird because we all know, myself included that dandruff doesn't kill, but watching myself lose a part of my son everyday.
He's been suffering from this condition for over 6yrs now, we've gone to the hospital and after buying and using all the prescribed drugs (Nizoral shampoo, selsun blue, head and shoulders, tea tree oil, miconazole cream, ketoconazole cream, terbinafine cream, fluconazole tablet, terbinafine tablet: almost killed my son, griseofulvin etc) nothing has changed, instead it's getting worse by day.
From complaining of headaches, to weakness (my son that was filled with energy and plays all the time now barely moves, he is always one place complaining of tiredness and pain), to joint pains, to confusion.
According to him, this dandruff has ate up his scalp so much that he can now taste his bathing soap on his tongue the moment he washes his head. We are now scared of washing and applying anything on his head because he will complain of tasting whatever we put on his head in his mouth and he will start having reactions. It's almost as if the skin on his scalp no longer protects him from outside soaps and other ingredients.
The moment he washes his head, his lips and tongue will swell up and he will start having reactions. My once active and lovely boy is now a shadow of himself. He's refusing to play, always complaining of tiredness and pains.
Pls help me my people, I don't know what to do anymore. I've tried every hospital and everything, I've done all I know, and now I'm watching my son deteriorate gradually before my very eyes without having a clue what to do, pls I beg you, help him, help me. Since you have tried the hospital and no positive change, obviously this is a spiritual case. Dandruff doesn't get this bad. Please take him to Winners Chapel to see a pastor , with regular use of anointing oil and taking communion whatever it is will let go of him |

After reading your story, I really feel so sorry for your son. Your husband is the major problem. Why is he always stopping his son from doing what he is passionate about. There is this joy one gains by doing what he or she loves. First he stooped him from studying computer science and later he stopped him from pursing his passion for football. Is he not seeing great footballers today that are not graduates but doing great in life? Your husband is just a joy killer for your son. Please support your son in anyway you can.
Why will father treat his son like that. He has greatly damaged the boy both mentally and psychologically. I hope he doesn't commit suicide. |

I wonder how we blacks are so much afflicted by Stockholm syndrome. They keep supporting nonsense, forgetting that the boy is also someone's child. Because he is from a poor background, they see him as a nobody. Thank God for the British Judicial System where no one is above the law. |

You are the wicked one for wishing the innocent boy evil. A boy that was being exploited due to his poor background, he should be schooling like Ekweremadu's kids but he was offered some pounds for his kidney that will not even cover up his health maintenance for life. Have you heard from the jugement that the involved the lady's family. They could as well have eliminated the boy and nobody will know. |
