OPEC DEAL: FG reacts, says Nigeria will generate additional $2.8 billion in revenue

After weeks of deliberations and negotiations, including intervention from the United States of America, the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and its allies (OPEC+) finally agreed to a historic cut in crude oil output as part of measures towards tackling the global oil crisis.

The deal, which was reached after their virtual meeting on Thursday, April 9, 2020, will see OPEC member countries cut their output by 10 million barrels per day. Non-OPEC countries will also cut their production output by 5 million barrels per day.

In the meantime, the Nigerian Government has reacted to this development. In a statement issued by the Minister of State for Petroleum, Timipre Sylva, on behalf of the Federal Government, it was noted that Nigeria will adhere to the output cut in order to rebalance and stabilize the global oil market.

The country will join OPEC+ to cut supply by up 10 million barrels per day between May and June 2020, 8 million barrels per day between July and December 2020, and 6 million barrels per day from January 2021 to April 2022, respectively.

As a result of the output cut, Nigeria will now be producing 1.412 million barrels per day, 1.495 million barrels per day, and 1.579 million barrels per day respectively for the corresponding periods in the agreement; as against the 1.829 million barrels per day of dry crude oil that was the reference production in October 2018. This is in addition to condensate production of between 360-460 KBOPD of which are exempt from OPEC curtailment.

However, this agreement awaits the final outcome of the ongoing engagement with Mexico to agree on its full participation.

This historic cut, when finally concluded and implemented, is expected to see crude oil prices rebound by at least $15 per barrel in the short term.

This is is also expected to help increase the possibility of the Federal Government exceeding the adjusted budget estimate that was just sent to the National Assembly with the reviewed crude oil price put at $30 per barrel and a crude oil production estimate of 1.7 million barrels per day.

The rebound price is expected to lead to an additional $2.8 billion dollars in revenue for the Federation. This will help to bring some much-needed respite to Nigeria, helping to mitigate the revenue crisis that it is currently facing.

In addition, all planned industry development projects will still progress as they will be delivered before the termination of the 9th OPEC/Non-OPEC Ministerial Meeting Agreement on adjustments in April 2022

Bullsh1t per usual. TChad Didn't really do anything all that special. They raided a some rusty boko shacks, shot up a forest lost over 50 men and claimed they killed over 1,000 Bokos but can't display a single corpse. Some of you guys really are gullible buffoons. The Nigerian army raids boko bases yearly you just rarely hear about it becuase bad news especially regarding Nigeria(Free Africa in general) is far more sensational than good news. Chad is a malnourished poverty stricken french puppet state trapped in the desert nothing more sorry.

The fact is that our soldiers aren't the ones to be blamed for the prolonged nature of this war. The people who are responsible for this mess is the men in charge of our security and intelligence infrastructure.

The president
National security adviser
The minister of defense
Our intelligence agencies
The army and air force leadership

This war can be won fairly quickly (1yr) using the right tactics and weapons.

We need better long endurance aerial reconnaissance and striking hardware that can be in the air 24/7 being on the lookout, ready to strike at moments notice. Dozens of armed drones to patrol our borders. Even more to watch sambisa forest and the lake chad region. Its not every time we need to send our boys to put their lives in danger on the ground. With the right aerial strategy and weapons, we can make BH afraid to move in the open.

these tucanos don't look like they'll be able to take heavy fire.we need heavy duty stuff

Su25s
Ac130s if possible
More mi35 helos

There is no battlefield command, control and coordination system. Especially BTW the army and air force. Do we have laser designators and other targeting equipment we can use to relay targets to our aerial platforms?

Our guys need better weapons and vehicles with heavy armor. These Toyota pickups we use is rubbish. None of our ifvs should be lightly armored. What happend to tanks? There are many good Tanks that aren't expensive na.

The boys need upgraded armor. What about sniper teams? Night vision goggles and thermal imaging devices? Those will make it easy for us to strike at night thereby giving us the element of surprise.

How I wish I was head of procurement for NA

our intelligence agencies are the greatest failure and embarrassments of this war. Identifying the logistic and organizational structure of BH/iswap should be the job of the DSS nia and dmi rather than intimidating innocent citizens and making a joke of themselves. The saying "drain the pond to kill the fish" comes to play here. We must also have an emphasis on degrading the organizational and logistics structure of BH. If we can identify how they get fuel and tools for their vehicles, how the get funding, movement patterns then we can get ahead of this thing.

Intelligence gathering is the biggest key to this fight. The sooner we do these the better. Enough of reactive strategy, its time for us to be proactive.
Not bad but I'd rather see a squadron or two of Su30s. At least the Airforce is getting J-17s.

America will NEVER EVER sell Nigeria a single AC130 or any type of sophisticated heavy weapons systems no matter what! When will you guys ever accept this?

I don't know why we keep choosing these tucanos

We can do so much better.
I agree I'd rather see some SUs or Migs but the tucanos are just so much more cost efficient for dealing with these types of insurgencies. At least the Airforce is getting the J-17s. smiley

We now have 21st century Tanks and Tank Destroyers, including artillery.

We also make very modern APCs.
I was exclusively talking about Main Battle Tanks . Nigeria fields t-72s t-55s, Vickers, and AMX 30s. All of those where designed pre 2000s. Im not saying there absolete im just happy to see something NEW being bought. cheesy

If we had ordered the armata, they won't be arriving anytime soon, the russians themselves haven't purchased much of it. Now I'm a fan of the armata but I'm pleased with this VT4 as the difference isn't that much
Modern Russia isn't all its hyped up to be no disrespect. There pretty much forcing everything they can without collapsing the whole system into there military budget. Russia can't afford to mass produce the majority of there new warmachines. T-14 Armata, Mig35, Su 57 ALL IN LIMBO with no end in sight. tongue If Nigeria where to order any of these they probably wouldn't arrive until the 2030s. Im just glad Nigeria finally gets to have a 21st Century developed tank.
