Ten years ago the iPhone was released earmarking the beginning of a revolution that would see smartphones redefine many of the most fundamental parts of our lives. Still, simple as the iOS seems, you can find tons of advanced features hidden below its polished surface and elite nature. Within the iPhone lies hidden features that you may not have realised existed – until now. Well, I am going to tell you about three hidden features that are really and truly hidden. As in, you could look through your iPhone from now until the end of time and you wouldn’t find any of these features unless you know what you’re looking for. There is no indication that these functions exist in iOS, and I am certain that most users don’t know about them. In fact, I could place a bet that even the savviest iPhone owners never knew about these functions. So grab a seat, a cup of coffee and enjoy. There’s a Spirit Level Tool within the Compass Certainly, you have not realized that iOS has an extra built-in app hidden within the compass. If you launch the compass, swipe left and you’ll find a spirit level tool. A spirit level is an instrument designed to indicate whether a surface is horizontal or vertical. It is commonly known as plum and used on site by construction workers. Though the iPhone may not be as precise as the tool itself, but it is very useful. You can either use the spirit level with your phone laid out flat or with it balanced on its side in either portrait or landscape mode. By tapping the screen, the difference between two surfaces is indicated by how much the two angles vary. Backspace Function in the Calculator App If you use the iOS Calculator app a lot, you know the frustration that comes with mistyping a digit and then having to start the calculation all over again. This hidden backspace function means you won’t have to go back to your old ways to use the C or AC buttons every time you make a mistake. To use, swipe to the left or the right at the top of the screen where the digits are displayed. The action deletes the last number entered. The Keyboard doubles as a Trackpad Did you know the iPhone keyboard can double as a trackpad? Using this feature, you can move the cursor perfectly and jump to bits of text, all without tapping on the screen. To use it, you need an iPhone with 3D Touch capabilities such as iPhone 6S, 6S Plus, 7, 8, 8 Plus and X. On the iPhone, firmly press and hold anywhere on the keyboard to activate the trackpad and simply drag your finger around to move the cursor through the text. On an iPad, simply drag down on the keyboard with two fingers to activate its trackpad. I hope you found these features useful. Discovered any iPhone hidden feature yourself? Most of these remedy buses come with raw metal that can rip your dresses apart without meaning any harm. “Dress! Dress! Oga dress! Does your laptop or desktop hang for several minutes? Does it take time to load files, applications, or to boot despite your extreme caution at downloading and receiving applications from untrusted sites. It is inevitable that your computer accumulates unwanted registry entries, errors, clutter and debris over a long period of time, which makes it, run very slow. It is however important to take these steps to get your computer back to shape. The first thing to do is to update your antivirus software and run a full scan. An effective antivirus helps you protect your computer from viruses and other suspicious files that can affect your computer by simply opening an email. The presence of an effective anti-virus on your computer performs a regular system scan, which helps to detect when foreign files are trying to infiltrate your computer. I will also suggest the installation of Norton or Kaspersky on your computer device, because these two software are standard-bearers in the industry. Secondly, download a spyware removing program on your computer. This does not only enable your computer function effectively, it helps you protect your computer database because spywares are malicious software installed on your computers that track certain information without your knowledge. You could install the free Spybot Search and Destroy software on your device or any other anti-spyware. After downloading and installing the anti-spyware software on your computer, run the software on your computer immediately if you are an advanced computer user, but if you are not then go on to read the directions on how it works to effectively use the software. Thirdly, clear up some space on your computer hard drive. You do not have to keep those unnecessary files in your computer if you want it to operate at an optimal pace. After deleting these files from your computer, remember to empty your recycle bin, because they are still on the hard drive and taking up space when the recycle bin has not been emptied. Finally, you should also check your computer RAM. If your computer’s Random Access Memory is full, then your computer will be slow whenever you try to start a new application, but if this happens when you turn on or reboot your computer, then there is probably another problem. Before you get an additional RAM for your computer, make sure you know exactly what type would work well with your computer. For More on Computer Hacks, Visit >>> askifa.ng

Thanks to a new Report, users will soon be able to download an archive of the content shared via their Instagram account. Due to the criticism about data portability, Instagram will soon let its users (you) download photos, videos and messages that you have archived and let them share or exchanged through the service. “Instagram is building a new data portability tool,” an Instagram spokesperson acknowledged in an interview with TechCrunch. “You’ll soon be able to download a copy of what you’ve shared on Instagram, including your photos, videos, and messages.” Instagram hasn’t also said whether or not users will be permitted to also export our lists of followers, likes, comments, stories, and captions. That is still unclear if photos and videos will export in the full resolution that they’re uploaded or displayed in, or whether they’ll be compressed. This long-overdue feature will help those wanting to leave the service to close their Instagram account without losing your photos, videos, and messages. It could even make it much easier for users to switch to a competing photo-sharing social network. The European Union’s upcoming GDPR privacy law requires data portability. 1. Dim the light You really have to take that step to dim that bright light from your computer screen. Dimming the light of your computer does not only prolong your computer’s function by about thirty minutes, it also protects your eyes from damage. Most personal computers and laptops have been created with a shortcut key that leads users directly to the screen brightness resolution page where you could either brighten or dim your screen light. You can buy yourself some more time with your laptop today, by just keeping the brightness really down to about 50% of the highest brightness level. 2. Don’t over charge Okay, now this may just not have come out right but it is the truth. I know electricity is a problem in this part of the world, but you cannot just go on plugging in your laptop every time there is an opportunity to do so. It is like take drugs when you are not sick. Lithium-ion batteries are produced in such a way that you ruin them when you overcharge them. Although computer manufacturers like Sony and Lenovo have recently provided limiters in their batteries that prevents them from getting fully charged. It is still important to use ones battery capacity properly before plugging it in to get charged. This will help prolong the productivity of your computer when you need it. 4. Ben Murray Bruce Our dearest common sense Senator may not have a visible net worth on the internet, but with his ideology, he is one of the best men to have told the African story in form of the Black Panther movie. It is only sad that he did not see anything positive in investing in such a great tale like the African Voice, yet we have Nigerians watch the screening of the movie in his Silverbird Cinemas nationwide. 3. Folorunso Alakija You can call her the Nigerian Oprah Winfrey. You can call her something lesser or greater, that does not change the fact that Alakija is one of the most financially powerful women in Nigeria and in Africa. She could have sponsored the movie from her 1.76 billion USD net worth. Her involvement on a project like Black Panther would have helped the Black woman fight a wining battle same way characters like Lupita Nyong’o , Letitia Wright and Danai Gurira did in the movie. It would have aided the propagation of African women and their heroic contribution to the development of the continent. You could call this some sort of feminism, but this would have raised the vocal bars higher for the African woman. Askifa.ng

2. Mike Adenuga Globacom Boss Mike Adenuga has the second largest telecommunication service in the nation. The boss of the “grandmasters” of data could have also been a part of this African heritage celebration from his net worth of 5.5 billion USD. Imagine, if you had green rays of light flash every time the vibranium was used in the movie. Link that colour and how coolly it will portray the fertility of the African continent especially when agriculture is concern. His involvement in such a project would have made it clear that the African man is not still primal, it is a proof that we have also continued to move up the technological advancement ladder. Africans have begun to clamour for the African story to be told. There have been several outbursts and protests about the representation of who Africans really are, as against who they have been described to be by global media and racial stunts. Now, marvel has answered a part of that question, with the Blockbuster movie Black Panther. This is the first time we are actually seeing an all-black Superhero cast that brings to life the uniqueness and resilience of African heroism, in an awesome perspective. The movie points at everything Africa, debunking myths that Africa is just one nation with no civilisation. Wakanda and its high-end vibranium technological advancement cannot be overlooked at any stage in the movie. It is the perfect tech-city creation with high end, fast pace technological advancement. Yes! T’Challa did it for us. He made it effortlessly cool to be an African Super-hero. Shuri helped us celebrate the beauty of African women who have broken stereotypes to function effectively in the tech space. Okoye has given us something to talk about when women in the force are considered. All these are good for the African story and the African image. However, something struck me while watching the movie. I asked myself if we have really done proper justice in terms of our involvement in the production of the movie. There were African-Americans who made up the cast of the movie and that it is awesome at least that cuts the edge of having white characters cloud our African historical recreation, but we could do more than just sing praises to Rylan Coogler, for giving us something to chew on when appraisals are concerned. Black Panther movie was produced on a $200,000,000 budget. Nevertheless, the movie, has gone on to make a $1,098,900,740 from Cinema views all around the world. Wow! That is a lot of money right, Rylan Coogler and his team of investors are now swimming in money. That is a lot of money, when financial returns are considered. However, are we saying there are no Nigerians who could have effortlessly paid to celebrate who we are as Africans? Are we saying our story is not worth the investment of prolific Nigerians? Well, they might have seen the movie like former Vice President of Nigeria Atiku. These Nigerians may claim not to have time to see this movie, but the truth is they all have the financial ability to sponsor the production of this movie. Here is a list of five Nigerians who could have funded the Black Panther movie. www.Askifa.ng

The founder of MMM one of the most accepted ponzi schemes died on the 26th day of March 2018. The entrepreneur died at the age of 62, from heart attack and his death is trending on twitter just as his brand did when it packed up in many countries. Nigerians have not been left out of the conversation. They are currently spilling their personal views on the legend who has broken more hearts than any flirtatious being on earth. We also could not help it, we just had to join the conversation, by compiling a list of hilarious tweets sent from Nigeria to the world, as the news of Mavrodi still sits at the dawn of people’s realities. So, for @FrenchSirVhage, he believes Mavordi is too scared of Nigerians coming with bitterness and wrath for him at the World Cup, which holds in his home country, for scamming them in 2016. Then we are like ok, this is awesome. @Cherish_vic may just have made us laugh as hard as we could have thought until we went on to read other tweets. A lot of people are taking the Edo bus, but for me, I need to get paid and not fired so I’ll just slide into Soyombo’s DM to really confirm what he was saying. I don’t know, if you do, leave a comment below. Now, Akintunde must have watched as much Nollywood films that he cannot even remember their titles. I am currently trying not to get teary thinking about how hard his tweet is making me laugh. Democracy, is the voice of the people in government, tweeting and insulting the dead man, is the voice of every and any student who got stuck because him or her staked his or her school fees in the Ponzi scheme, please accept my sincere apologies. We certainly have heard a lot about Jungle Justice and Legal Justice, I am kind off beginning to think that the new dimension of Justice that transcend both levels of Justice is the ancient yet potent style. So, as the sharp guy I am drinking water from a bucket as the matter is unfolding. https://www.askifa.ng/sergey-mavrodis-death-is-raising-dust-on-twitter/

With over 1,000 people infected and 180 people dead in the past year and now, South Africa has recorded the highest Listeria mortality in the world. Well, it took the South African government at least a year to identify the potential cause of this deadly outbreak that has killed 180 people in the Country. This is what Nigerians should know about the outbreak of the killer condition. Listeria is a form of food poisoning caused by eating food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. This bacterium can survive with or without Oxygen, which makes it an extremely adaptable pathogen when in contact with your food. Symptoms of listeria include fever, muscle aches, vomiting, and diarrhea. However, if this infection spreads to a sufferer’s nervous system then symptoms like a headache, loss of balance, confusion, stiff neck, and convulsion can occur. Since its outbreak in South Africa, the South African Government has banned the eating and purchasing of process meat and sausages. South African neighboring countries like Namibia, Mozambique, Malawi, Botswana, and Zambia have also followed suit, they are all ordering a recall or suspending imports of potential threat products. The outbreak in South Africa is referred to as the most fatal in the world. Despite speculations linking the outbreak to Polony a sausage manufactured in the northern city of Polokwane Limpopo, the chief executive of Tiger Brands, owners of the Enterprise have still insisted that there has been no direct link between there product and the 180 death cases recorded since January 2017, following the announcement by South African Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi on Sunday. The Minister, however, confirmed that Polony was a definite source for the outbreak and has warned that pregnant women, elderly people and those with the weakened system should stay clear processed meat. Nigerians do not purchase this product or a few other product marked as potential sources of harm, but it is important to take personal safety measures like bagging your raw meat, poultry, or fish separately from other food items. Cook, refrigerate, or freeze your meat, poultry, eggs, fish, and ready-to-eat foods. Also, make sure your refrigerator is set at 40°F (4°C) or colder. Be careful to always keep your refrigerator clean because listeria can grow in it. If you consider keeping your food hot then make sure the temperature is averaged at 140°F or 60° C. Your health is important to keep an eye on what you consume and how you consume it. Source: https://www.askifa.ng/what-nigerians-should-know-about-listeria/ Lalasticlala, Freiburger, r231, Mynd44 |
Did you know that a group of Owls is called a Parliament? These nocturnal birds do not only hoot they make sounds similar to hissing, barking, and whistling. A baby owl is called an owlet. Here are certain amazing things about Owls; we feel you should know about. While most Owls are nocturnal, not all Owls are. Some owls actually prefer to fly during the day rather than taking the night train. So, when most owls take their naps during the day breeds like the Northern Hawk Owl and the Northern Pygmy Owl hunt for their meals which makes them the exact opposite of the nocturnal stereotypes for Owls in general. Owls have varied sizes, which makes it possible for larger Owls to prey on smaller ones. The Great Gray Owl is the largest Owl in appearance and it is about 32 inches tall, while the smallest owl is the Elf Owl, which is about 5-6 inches tall. The Great Hornet is one of the swiftest Owl eaters and their most common preys are the Smaller Barred Owls. Have you ever wondered what it would feel like to spin your head in an almost 360 motion? Well, it is an amazing fact that while you cannot make that move, Owls can naturally spin their heads in a 270 degrees motion. This movement enables them to cover up for their inability to move their eyes. Owls have brought slight peace to the Middleast. Farmers in the Mideast can gather around their tables to congratulate themselves on the reduction of mice on their farmlands. The Barn Owl is most prominent in this region and it is famous for swallowing its prey whole. One Barn Owl eats an estimate of 1,000 mice a year; this, in turn, means that farmers in the Mideast will spend less on pesticides on their farms. The Great Horned Owl can also swim. This is one of the most uncomfortable things for these birds to do, but they swim when there is a need for them to save their lives. Source: https://www.askifa.ng/parliament-did-not-know-owl/

Nowadays, smartphones are used by everyone including kids. Yes, kids. As a kid, I remember I wasn’t even allowed to pick calls on the landline at home let alone own a smartphone; but fast forward to present day, kids own smartphones that even a working class adult wouldn’t dare to own. Kids of today have become smarter and brighter that they have little or no difficulty navigating any model of these smartphones. Of course, this cannot be prevented because we are in the digital age however; some people fail to consider the side effects smartphones might have on these kids. Bear in mind that unlike in the past, these kids grow up early and are exposed to all sorts of things so; it is advisable to have second thoughts before buying a smartphone for these kids. Below are five reasons why kids don’t need a smartphone. Cyber-Bullying Wikipedia defines cyber-bullying as a form of bullying or harassment using electronic means and it is mostly common among kids. These harmful bullying behaviours can include posting rumours, threats, sexual remarks, a victims’ personal information or derogatory speeches. This can lead to low self-esteem, suicide, depression or even death at a very young age. Poor Academic Performance Many schools ban students from bringing their mobile phones to school because most mobile phones have the ability to look up information online and can also double as a calculator; in short, the ways that these kids use these mobile devices to their advantage are numerous. For many kids who own smartphones, their new book is Facebook. They spend so much time on social media that they barely pick their books to read thus affecting their output and performance in school. Early Exposure to Pornographic Contents With a smartphone, kids get unrestricted access to various pornographic and inappropriate contents online. Parents are always not aware of this except their online activities are checked however; it might even go unnoticed because these kids are so smart they know how to hide these contents. Early Addiction According to a recent study, one in 11 children aged 8-18 years are addicted to technology while many are now also suffering from Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD). They can only concentrate on their smartphones and can’t learn if they cannot pay attention. So, if a child is having ADD, it is time to take away that mobile phone from them and this will help them break the addiction before it becomes uncontrollable. Sleep Deprivation A child who is addicted to a smartphone will deprive himself sleep. The consequence of sleep denied is terrible because it will affect their overall life cycle. Even as adults, we all know how messed up our day can be without adequate sleep and we definitely don’t want that for our kids. Hopefully, these reasons have given you some things to think about when deciding why it may be a good idea to buy your child a smartphone but whatever you decide, keep in mind that we all want what’s best for our children. They don’t have to always like us for it, but I can guarantee one day they’ll look back and love us for it! source: https://www.askifa.ng/five-reasons-kids-not-smartphone/ |
As smartphones have become a part of our everyday life, so have they also become prime targets for hackers attempting to access our private information. With all the reports flying about malware attacks and data breaches, no one can blame you for wanting to protect your smartphone from these hackers who don’t need physical access to your smartphone to steal your personal information or infect the device with malware. They simply either infiltrate your device with innocent-looking apps or via unsecured Wi-Fi networks. Nonetheless, you can keep hackers from getting the upper hand by taking steps to secure your smartphone. Although nothing is foolproof, a little bit of know-how would improve your chances of hack-proofing your smartphone. Below are a few tips to help prevent a hack on your smartphone. Stay Updated When it comes to protecting smartphones from hackers, step one is always to install software updates as soon as they become available. Yes, updating can be a very tedious and disturbing process; these updates patch vulnerable holes and make your phone more secure. Vet Apps before Installing When you install a smartphone app, various permissions like the ability to read files, access your camera or listen in to your microphone may have to be granted. Though these requests have genuine uses, they can also be potentially open to exploitation; especially for Android users because Google’s app-vetting process isn’t as strict as Apple’s so, it is advisable to think before approving the request. Make It Hard For Intruders to Get In If a thief gets hold of your smartphone, they can cause all sorts of trouble. For a start, your email app probably contains a lot of personal information like your bank account details so; it is wise to use complex combinations of letters, numbers, and symbols. For example, you can use uppercase letters in the middle of your password or an unusual symbol to further strengthen your password. Remember, the more complex you make the password, the more secure it is. Beware Of Unsecured Wi-Fi We all know that unsecured connections don’t have lock icons near their listings and that there could be high levels of risks involved in using them. Right? This sort of attack demands specialist software along with great skills but it isn’t a danger that cannot be prevented. Simply ignore when in doubt about a wireless network or better still don’t connect – stick with your smartphone’s mobile internet connection or install a virtual private network (VPN) which directs your traffic through encrypted connections. Even when using a VPN, never attempt to access your bank account or vital records on an unsecured connection. Don’t Open Suspicious Emails By any means, opening a mail you’re not sure of can give the sender a backdoor into your personal information. Thus, it is smart to delete the message immediately if you don’t recognize the sender and if you do recognize them, hover over their name to make sure the email is legit. Don’t Share Too Much Personal Info on Social Media It’s okay to use your real name for networking but leave it that way. Never provide your address, phone number, mother’s maiden name etc, on your profile. Hackers can use any of this information to hack and steal your personal information. Avoid Auto-Login Though it appears convenient, it simply makes hacking as easy as opening your browser. Henceforth, you should take your time to enter your usernames and passwords especially on sites that you use for banking and other sensitive business to prevent being hacked. source: https://www.askifa.ng/prevent-smartphone-hacked/ cc UjSizzle, mkmyers45, lalasticlala, mynd44 |
480,000 Biafran children suffered malnutrition during the war. 31% of these children were believed to be have been between the age of five and below. Times were hard for mothers and children, they had to say goodbye in the most heartbreaking way possible. Most mothers watched their children die as a result of hunger. The Nigerian Civil War showed that Nigeria like every other country went through this brutal phase when development is considered. For three years both Nigerian and Biafran families were torn apart physically, mentally and emotionally. The lives of Biafrans and Nigerians took a different turn on July 6, 1967, and even after the war ended on January 13, 1970, the scars are still visible on the historical skin of those who experienced the war as children, teenagers, youths or even adults. The war came with a lot of brutally but it left something so precious that has become a part of the Nigerian food culture. Mothers watched their children die from malnutrition because there was barely anything they could do to save them. This leaves us with this question, why is stockfish special? History has excluded a couple of things from its study to generations of Nigerian children, probably because these things do not seem relevant. But these little things have become cultural and our Nigerianness has been defined by them. Interestingly, food culture is one of the essential things that can keep or kill a group of people at any time, not to mention during crises or wars. Have you ever been so hungry you felt like you were going to die before you get food? Now, I will like you to imagine the number of children who had that sensation for three years not sure if they would ever get food. I bet you do not want to think of the woman who had to watch her children die because her husband was out fighting the war and she cannot farm, because of possible air strikes or land raids. Insecurity was so high that you would rather eat what you had rather than seek to eat what you did not have. I want you to close your eyes and imagine the pain she would have felt as she saw her children that were healthy begin to get fragile because of malnutrition. Do you not think she would embrace the next alternative that will save them? That is exactly how it began. That is exactly how Stock Fish became a part of Nigerian history. That exactly how it saved a lot of children, women, and men during those days of horror. Stockfish has become one of the most used ingredients in the preparation of most traditional Nigerian soups. The taste of this fish in your vegetable makes it awesomely balanced and perfect, the truth is that we have fallen so much in love with this fish and it has become a part of our lives and some soups cannot be made without it. But what if you were told that Stock fishes do not have a Nigerian origin, would you believe it? Well, Stockfish has become one of the generational mantle parents have passed down from one generation of children to another and this cycle will continue because these fishes have become an inevitable delicacy in the Nigerian cuisine. Norwegian historian Frank Jensen explained how this fish became an amazing aspect of the Nigerian food culture. He explained that the process of drying makes it possible for Stock Fishes to last for years and this made it perfect, to be used as food in Nigeria during the bloody Civil-War which lasted for three years. Did you know? The suffering in Biafra during the Nigerian Civil War led to the development of international humanitarian agencies designed to respond to complex emergencies anywhere in the world Well, Stock Fishes were the contribution of the Norwegian government to the distressed children of Biafra who were dying from Kwashiorkor as a result of malnutrition. Well, before Norway discovered oil and natural gas, its wealth was built on fisheries. Today, Norway still remains on the frontline with regards to fish exports. Nigerians and their love for Stock Fish have greatly contributed to the income of the Norwegian Government. Today, the history of Stock Fish has been forgotten. It has become a regular component in our cuisine. I love my vegetable soup with as much of it as possible. History never elaborates on the pain of children who needed protein to stay alive before it was shipped into the country as a relief material by the Norwegian government. Nigerians like me that have found this fish as an inevitable delicacy have directly contributed to the economic growth of Norway because it estimated that Nigerians imports 200 to 250 containers of Stock Fish yearly. source: https://www.askifa.ng/nigerian-civil-war-made-stockfish-peoples-delight/ cc: freiburger, Mynd44, MissyB3, RoyalRoy
