Business / The Nigerian Banking System VS Customer Dissatisfaction by askifa1: 1:06am On May 16, 2020

Based on a random sampling conducted from social media, Instagram to be precise, The Nigerian Banking system seems to have failed Nigerians to a very large extent

Calculations show that there are over ten frequently used banks in the country, and Nigerians feel that the services rendered by these banks are nothing to write home about. Not to be considered as a silver lining to this topic but, regardless of the poor services — Nigerians feel are being rendered– they do applaud the infrastructure of the banks. But logically speaking, of what relevance is it to look good on the outside and completely next-to-awful on the inside.

According to our analysis, there are 17 frequently used banks in the country. It didn’t even seem that much till we started counting the numbers. Although there are a lot of them, some are used more than others, and some received a lot more intense backlashes for being presentable on the outside and annoying ridiculous when it comes to the delivery of its content.

The respondents, however, did have a few valid reasons for why the services are unacceptable; Reasons such as staff incompetency and disrespectful attendants. Some also stated the unwarranted debit for card maintenance, even on credit cards that were “supposedly” blocked by the bank. So why they are being debited remains a mystery to them. Some other side comments were as regards to the delays of receiving a credit alert, consistently faulty ATMs, being debited without making any withdrawal or transaction and the likes.

Nonetheless, here is what we were able to find out. We would take this from the least backlashed bank to the most lashed one.

Turn out of the Analysis

Sterling Bank was mentioned the least based on the responses given by the respondents, People had more good things to say than bad, or probably because sterling is one of the less-used banks in the country, however, they came up with an aggregate of 0.51% and that’s the least.

Next in line is Union Bank. People rarely had anything to say about the bank, so it could pass also as a less-used bank. However, It came up with a 0.64% aggregate for bad services.

Stanbic IBTC came with a 0.90% aggregate. Not a lot was said about the bank as well. It was observed from our analysis that the banks that were least mentioned have a minimum consumer base. So, therefore, saying they’re bad or have poor services might not be very adequate.

Keystone bank attained an aggregate of 1.29%. If you pay attention closely, you would observe that the figures keep increasing like a scale of preference. From the least to the most. Again, not much was said about Keystone bank.

Another bank that surfaced a few times is Heritage bank, with 1.93% of people who think they deliver poor services.

Wema bank. Funny enough, one would think that this bank is not in existence anymore because you rarely see any units or hear about them. Surprisingly it came up a few times, and to our greatest surprise, it came up more times than Stanbic IBTC. That’s something you can chew on. Either way, it has a 2.06%

Polaris bank, which is one of the banks that came to existence in recent times, and it appears to be struggling for the position of bad services with a percentage of 2.19%

Zenith Bank. Can as well be considered as a legend bank. But are you really a legend if you cannot hold your totem up properly as a bank that offers proper and distinguished services? It has a 2.57% aggregate of users who think they are not capable.

Then EcoBank, “The Pan African Bank ” is it really though? It has a 3.22% complaint rate.

FCMB did come up a few times as well with a 5.15% of complaints about bad services, or one might add that the ‘curtains do not match the drapes’. DiamondAccess also had the same complaint rate as FCMB, 5.15%. For DiamondAccess, you might say maybe the merger is a determining factor for why they dispense poor services.

There is also the majority who feel All banks are terrible and they have a 5.15% along with FCMB and Diamond Access.

Fidelity bank did surface with a 5.40% aggregate.

UBA, “more than just a bank” Well a lot of Nigerians disagree with that as it attained a 7.8% aggregate.

First Bank, Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB), and Access Bank came up top of their class with the most dissatisfied customers. Of course, one would expect so considering that both banks account for the highest number of customers; 12 million, 8 million, and 36 million respectively.

First Bank had 8.24% aggregate, GT Bank had 11.84% and for the Big one, Access bank was mentioned the most, with a 29.73% aggregate. Based on this analysis from randomly sampling Instagram responses, it came to the conclusion that Access banks appear to currently be the most dreaded bank in Nigeria.

Business / Sex Industry Experiences Boom In Sales Amidst The Coronavirus Pandemic by askifa1: 11:58am On Apr 11, 2020

While the restriction of movement around the world has caused great concerns in major areas of the economy, the sex industry like the purveyors of the internet may have witnessed more blessings than regrets.

Do you remember the move by Pornhub to stream premium service to Italians free of charge? Yes, the world is not just self-isolating but making it a very comfortable and intimate time.

Since the Lockdown began across national borders early this year, we’ve seen a surge in pleasure streaming sites, shortage in supply of condoms, increase in demand of intimacy gadgets and sexually related items and a drop in the patronage of sex workers physically.

Most reports this week across the internet, show that intimacy gadget shops and sexually related items across the world have experienced a boom in sales since the pandemic hit the world proper this year.

Danish biggest intimacy gadget review website has also experienced a massive surge in traffic during the lockdown. Sex experts in Denmark say the sales of intimacy gadgets in the country have more than doubled after Danes were told to stay at home to limit the spread of the virus.

Lelo, a Swedish luxury intimacy gadget brand says it has seen sales increase by 40 per cent, UK Meds, an online pharmacy based in Nottingham, reported a spike in Viagra sales and reports from local news sites in Nigeria, show that most online stores where intimacy gadgets are sold, have items either in short supply or sold out.

This is as Adult Toy Megastore has been declared an essential service by the New Zealand government, as it sells condoms and medical items.

It comes as the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) which is concerned with reproductive and sexual health warned of grave effects which a global shortage of condoms may cause after one of the world’s biggest producer, Karex, was forced to shut down production in its Malaysian factories for a week.

Malaysia’s Karex Bhd makes one in every five condoms globally. While it was eventually declared an essential service, it has only been allowed to restart production with 50 percent of its staff, leading to a global shortfall of 100 million condoms.

You may be thinking that sometime in December 2020 or January 2021, we may see a surge in birthrate across the world, well, experts have refuted this hypothesis noting that though there may be a surge in sexual activities, their aim is not in having babies.

As over 1 billion people have been forced to stay at home, we wait patiently until nine months after.

Autos / FG Commissions Made-in-nigeria Vehicles Worth $1 Billion by askifa1: 5:58pm On Mar 10, 2020

The Federal Government has commissioned made-in-Nigeria vehicles worth the sum of $1 billion dollars (₦366 billion) by partnering with the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC)

This information was disclosed by the Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment, Mr. Adeniyi Adebayo. According to Adebayo, the vehicles produced by the 17 firms include companies that started the made-in-Nigeria vehicles such as Coscharis, Nissan, Innoson, Ford and Elizade motors.

The minister also made it known that the locally-assembled vehicles will be used at the Argungu Motor Rally which is an essential part of the popular festival held in Kebbi every year. This Argungu Motor Rally is scheduled to be started by the President Muhammadu Buhari in Abuja.

Revealing the plan of the NADDC to turn the rally to an annual event for the auto industry, the minister acknowledged the growth of the auto industry. He added that from zero production level in 2012, the industry has recorded the tens of thousands of new vehicles. He also added that about 62 companies have been registered to assemble vehicles.

“The vehicles and brands for unveiling are a testament to the zeal and commitment of the automotive industrial subsector to the present government’s efforts towards diversification of the non-oil sector of the economy. The role of the NADDC in reviving and sustaining the automotive sector has greatly helped in stimulating growth and development in the Nigerian automotive industry.’’ Adebayo said.

Business / Taxify (bolt) Launches Keke Napep Services In Uyo by askifa1: 8:59pm On Jan 26, 2020

Bolt, a ride-sharing company and also one of Nigeria’s leading ride-hailing services has introduced its own tricycle in Nigeria’s south southern city of Uyo

This new development came after the Estonia-based ride-hailing service appointed Femi Akin-Laguda as Nigeria’s country manager and also introduced a new feature that allows users to add extra stops to their rides.

Speaking on the launch of the new tricycle, Akin-Lugada said, “We have already built the biggest ride-sharing platform in Nigeria for cars and the knowledge we have gained in that endeavor gives us a significant advantage in taking on the unique transportation challenges in all the cities where we operate. Tricycles in Uyo is the first step in this direction as we intend to bring a renewed effort to solving local problems with globally tested solutions.”

August last year, OPay launched its green-branded OTrike tricycles in Aba and Kano. Its operation has spread throughout twelve cities in the country. The same month, MAX.ng launched its brand of yellow MAXKeke tricycles in Lagos.

Bolt has, however, taken a different approach as it adopts the color red for its tricycles. The new launch matches with the company’s recent raise of $56 million (₦20.3 billion) from the European Investment Bank to expand its wings across newer areas of its business across Europe and Africa.

The company, formerly called Taxify has offered similar services in countries like Tanzania and Kenya. Nigeria is the first West-African country to have Bolt tricycles. Tricycles, popularly known as Keke, has become very popular in the country. They are known for providing more safety compared to motorcycles and they also provide a better option when trying to navigate through traffic than cars.

Car Talk / 5 Reasons Nigerian Riders Don’t Tip Uber Drivers by askifa1: 1:39pm On Oct 24, 2019
The foremost ride-hailing service has been around since 2012, however, the company only introduced its tipping service about five years after, and it hasn’t been of active use by users of the service ever since.

According to recent research, only 1 percent of Uber customers always tip, while nearly 60 percent never do. While the statement is backed by data, although only applicable to the US region, it has been observed that it is about the same variation in almost every location where Uber service is been operational.

Using Nigeria as a case study, a lot of riders from this part of the world often find it difficult to tip their respective Uber drivers at the end of a trip. However, this is not solely for a particular reason; at the end of every trip, various riders have their own different reasons for avoiding ‘tips‘- the exclusive service that allows riders to pay an excess fee to drivers, mostly as a kind gesture. Below are 5 major reasons why riders often avoid tipping Uber drivers in Nigeria;

Late Arrival.

Have you ever had to wait for an Uber ride that you felt you could have actually taken a public transit instead? If yes, you probably would have been frustrated on that occasion and may have picked up a fight with the driver on his arrival, especially if the reason for the delay is apparently a lame one. Some Nigerian Uber drivers are found of lateness- a bad attribute that speaks volumes of inappropriacy to the riders. As a result, most riders, except for exceptional reason may end up ranking the ride low, to actually think of tipping the driver in the first place.

Intolerable or Unfriendly Manners

This could otherwise mean bad manners, and it could be of a different category, ranging from overzealous, intrusiveness, lack of respect for privacy, engaging in a phone conversation, eating while driving among several others. Of course, there are more than four ways to get a rider angry while on a trip, although it is left for the person to pick or not pick offense. Whichever way, it is important for a driver to be of good conduct if at all he or she is ever expecting tips from riders.

Reckless Driving

Although, there are bad roads in every nook and cranny of Nigeria as a whole, however, it is not enough reason to justify the reckless driving found amongst Nigerian drivers which by extension includes Uber drivers. Trust me, I won’t tip you for almost having me killed on a 15-minutes journey. No doubt, bad road could be frustrating at times, but there is nothing wrong with driving with care regardless. So if you are an Uber driver and you are currently reading this article, you may also want to take that too into a note.

Trip Manipulation

You probably will be amazed to find out that even a ride-hailing service like Uber can also be manipulated. Well, now you know, so you may want to watch out on your future trip on the platform. Various Uber drivers have their respective plans while taking trips, and while it all streamlines to making ends meet, some drivers could be very dubious in the execution of their services.

One of the prominent acts found under this category is re-routing trips, and it takes only a regular customer who has a vast knowledge of the app to quickly notice. Trust me, no one pays tips to a dubious person, and in a case like this, I do rather file a report almost immediately.

Broke Riders

Yes! Drivers are not always responsible for zero-tipping. Sometimes, it is a choice to make by the rider. Certainly, 1 of 10 drivers are everyone’s perfect kind-of-driver but do you ever think of tipping this gentleman or lady. Let me guess the reason why- you are probably scared of how much will be added to your initial fee, or perhaps doesn’t have so much to let go the excess. Either way, the various reasons are best known to the respective riders, however, how about you try tipping a driver in one of your next trips! A kind gesture, they say ‘creates a ripple effect’.

Technology Market / Nigeria Ready For 5G Technology - NCC by askifa1: 11:04am On Jun 10, 2019

Nigeria Communication Commission (NCC) has finally made its first official statement about the course of 5G network in the Nation

While the 5G network has remained one of the most talked-about topics worldwide, it is very pathetic that Nigeria has not been privileged to do the same for a while now, until NCC finally breaks the long silence with a recent statement about the availability of the next generation network in the country.

One can easily assume that it will take a longer time to actually see the 5G network activated in a location like Nigeria, where 4G network ( the network to be succeeded) is still struggling to take a firm-hold across the Nation, let’s say in the next two, three, or five years at least. However, it may interest you to know that this impossible goal may be met even sooner than later as you will normally think.

The NCC informed in a previous statement that the State of Nigeria is now ready for the next-generation network (5G) for faster and efficient internet service, and while that may seem impossible to achieve, considering the current state of the present Network coverage, the Commission informed that it will soon audit the Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) to determine their level of compliance with the regulation on the registration of Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) Cards. How this will help in the availability of a 5G network in Nigeria is not very clear, however, it seems to be one of the important steps to take by NCC as of now.

According to the Commission’s Executive Commissioner for Stakeholder Management, Mr.Sunday Dare, he said that the NCC had been preparing the country for it by bringing together critical stakeholders to examine the legal. regulatory and technology issues, apart from developing a mere road map.

“We have opened up consultations on the spectrum for drones, etc. We are proactively leading discussions on the development of new technologies. This does not mean that we are going to discard the 2G, 3G or 4G. Each one of these levels of technologies has its benefits and the fact remains that you have to move from one level to the other,” Mr. Dare said.

Still, in the same conversation, Mr. Dare shed more light on the audit of the MNOs, and during the course of explanation, he emphasized on an exercise that took place sometimes in August 2015 where the regulatory body found that 5.2 million SIM cards were not properly registered by MTN Nigeria Communications Limited.

According to him, this single act of carelessness by MTN led to the imposition of N1.04tn fine on the mobile operator, before it was eventually reduced to N330bn. MTN completed the payment of the fine on May 24 thereafter. In addition, while the exercise was not to make money for the government it was rather an attempt to ensure that prescribed processes were complied with.

Speaking on broadband penetration, the NCC official said Nigeria has met the 30 percent milestone and has publicly released the data for everyone to interrogate.

“Those who say we have not are citing old reports from the ITU. They forget that NCC provides the data that ITU uses. We are the custodians of data, and we have specialized methods of measuring. Based on empirical data, we have met and surpassed the target,” he noted.

If you also think there is a possibility to see the 5G Network activated in Nigeria any moment soon, please share your reasons in the comments below.
