Several countries are moving towards the criminalization of the famous Drake’s In My Feeling Challenge, which has gone viral across all social media platforms. https://www.askifa.ng/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/Hassan.jpg This challenge has seen people pull really harmful stunts just to go viral with their clips and all on social media, people have been seen uploading this challenge jumping down from moving cars and most cases have actually gone wrong. After the Spanish police released videos of #InMyFeelingsChallenge gone wrong to warn people of its dangers, the Gulf Emirate of Abu Dhabi has followed suit, but with a more strident measure attached to the warning. The public prosecutor’s office has ordered the arrest of three social media influencers for being a part of the viral challenge. According to reports by Daily Mail, the public prosecutor’s office released a statement saying: ‘Participants in this challenge get out of a moving car and leave the door open and dance on a public road next to the car, which is a danger to them and others on the road’. ‘This behavior is contrary to the values of the Emirates’ society and constitutes a violation of public morals.’ The detainees will also be investigated ‘on charges of endangering their lives and the lives of others, and violating public morals using social networking sites to promote practices that are incompatible with the values and traditions of society.’ Hassan Ghoneim, a Dentist with 1.2 million Instagram followers, was one of those arrested. Also, one @salman-lm10 on Twitter was also arrested for partaken in the challenge. Hopefully, Nigeria would learn to face something more serious and not the criminalisation of a mere social media trend. Recently, Samsung has cultivated the habit of mocking its biggest rival Apple in its ads and as it stands, the company isn’t ready to back down. In the latest series of advertisements for the Samsung Galaxy S9, the company has dissed its rivals again with the lack of the 3.5mm headphone jack on Apple’s iPhone X while also taking swipes at the iPhone’s camera. Samsung recently posted three new ads online titled Dongle, Fast Charger and Camera. Each video shows an Apple Store employee in conversation with a customer as they try to favourably compare the iPhone to the Galaxy S9. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-O_MjXbX3VA The one titled Fast Charger includes a customer asking the employee whether the iPhone X comes with a fast charger like the Galaxy S9 does. The employee proceeds to tell the puzzled customer that she will have to purchase a Lightning to USB-C cable as well as a USB-C power adapter for fast charging. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nxi0AtBVRZE In the third ad titled Camera, the customer wants to know if the camera on the iPhone X is better than that of the Galaxy S9. The employee proceeds to ask if the customer has been reading DxOMark’s review of the iPhone, where he gave the Galaxy S9+ a higher rating than the iPhone X. The Apple employee is not phased but doesn’t have a great answer. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PTntzNhTTsE SOURCE: https://www.askifa.ng/samsung-just-dissed-apple-again/

The Immune System of the body is the resistance force of the body, so it’s normal to think that it’s the best thing that happened to the human system in a world filled with many diseases. Well, you are right and you are not. Contrary to the popular belief that the the body is a complicated network of functions, the body is actually like a community of people doing mundane activities. Every part of a cell does one thing a certain way throughout its existence. The white blood cells are the body’s immune system, its work is, attack anything unrecognizable, anything wandering where it wasn’t program to be, hence the following problems I am about to highlight. Sterility Shocked! I was too. This is peculiar to the males, as their fertility status can be so fragile. In medicine there is a barrier called Blood-Testes barrier, that prevents semen from entering into the bloodstream and vice versa, (note that this barrier cannot be a brick fence), effective but fragile. If either of the aforementioned happens, kiss your offspring goodbye. How does this happen? The white blood cells see the semen, and kill it, hence, sterility. Allergies Allergies are caused also by the immune system, first time the person comes in contact with the substance he or she is allergic to, the white blood cells create antibodies to fight it. So, the next time the person comes in contact with that non harmful substance, the anti bodies fight it and physical manifestations are seen, for example, sneezing, rash.etc. Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) Here is a disease that is targeted at the immune system directly, two questions, why is it not fighting it’s direct enemy and why can’t it see the virus? One answer, the virus disguises itself as white blood cells. So they see it as one of them and find no need to fight itself while the virus replicates as it kills off the white blood cells. Like they say, there’s no such thing as a perfect system, there is only so much you can do. SOURCE: https://www.askifa.ng/three-harms-caused-by-your-immune-system/

The Nigerian Labour Congress has been reported to have storm telecommunication giant MTN’s office over the treatment of Nigerian staff in terms of monetary compensation when compared to that of foreign. An undisclosed source told the team that NLC came today for the lockdown demanding that Nigerian self of the brand be given a better share of voice and an upgraded pay in terms of monthly take home. The demands are clear, for the Labour Congress it is demanding that MTN should also stop the trend of causal worker. A protest, which was held in most major cities of the country had different reactions from different State leaders championing the cause of the Nigerian MTN staff. In Bauchi, Comrade Hashimu Gital, Chairman, NLC who led the protest commented that We need to tell them that they need to respect the laws of the country; they need to also respect our own labour laws, but most importantly, they must respect human and trade union rights. Also in Enugu Mr. Virginus Nwobodo led the protest demanding for a better life for employees of the brand, stating that Nigerians deserve to be treated better than slaves. However, MTN has tossed the other side of the argument, the company in a press release stated that We do not prevent our employees from associating amongst themselves as they deem fit and we owe our employees the obligation to ensure that they are not compelled to join associations. MTN supports the freedom of association as enshrined in the Nigerian constitution. The brand also further stressed that the attack by the Labour Congress on its facilities was not necessary adding that All our workers have rights that should be protected. We work hard to not only ensure that this is done but also ensure that our company is a great place to work Now, it becomes a case of who answers the question? Are we really not sure that this is a witch hunt? MTN has been in the country for 17 years and it has just suddenly become the topic that Nigerian Staff have been exploited, who is playing the chase and who is been chased? These are questions I feel both parties should answer. SOURCE: https://www.askifa.ng/mtn-and-nlc-who-is-playing-the-chase-and-who-is-been-chased-questions-both-parties-should-answer/

Like computers, smartphones become slower over time when not properly maintained hence making every missed swipe or extra moment waiting for an app to load feel like an eternity. If you’ve had your Android device for a while, then you’ve probably started to notice some delay in performance that wasn’t there before. This is usually due to an increasing number of applications, processes, and files stored on the device. However, if your Android device is running slowly and you can’t determine why the tips below will help you speed it up. Clear the Cache Usually, cached data for apps help them to load more quickly but over time, it can build up and take up quite a lot of space which eventually starts hurting more than it should help. Clearing the cached data helps in making the device perform smoother as it removes old data which usually makes it slow and eventually crashes the device. This method is helpful in the case of big apps like Facebook and Instagram which store tons of images and other data on your device. To clear the cache on your device, head into Settings > Storage>Clear cached data and then tap OK. Uninstall or Disable Unused Apps Most Android devices typically have a number of apps pre-installed by the phone manufacturer that is completely unused. Over time, you add more apps that are likely unused hence taking up precious space and slowing down the device. To uninstall such apps, navigate to settings, click on apps, find the app you wish to uninstall and tap uninstall. Close Unused Apps Keeping several apps open makes it easy to multitask but closing open apps improve the device’s speed. Just pull up the running apps list that shows the apps that are running, how much memory they are using and close the ones that aren’t needed to be opened. Don’t Overload the Home Screen Filling your device’s home screen with live wallpapers and tons of widgets sounds nice but under the hood, they put extra load on the hardware and affect the device’s performance. Thus, it is advisable to keep your home screen as clean as possible because it will make your device perform faster. Disable Widgets As with apps, widgets that aren’t needed should be disabled. Though widgets provide animations and special effect to make the device look great, they can also slow down the device. To disable a widget, navigate to the widget you wish to remove, long press on the widget and drag the widget to remove and release. Use Cloud Storage System The new storage fashion is uploading files to the cloud. This not only makes data saved accessible across all devices but also frees up the internal storage on the device. Bear in mind that internal storage plays an important role in the performance of the device, it advisable not to overload it so it doesn’t slow down your Android device. Update Your Device’s Software Do you keep swiping aside that notification to update your software? It only wants the best for you. Most times, software updates are not always about new features, they also contain bug-fixes and performance enhancements that help to improve the device’s speed. Identifying the best WordPress developer from a pool of programmers can sometimes be very tedious and frustrating. However, a dedicated WordPress developer should not be hard to find because they should be capable of pushing boundaries, going beyond the basics, bringing innovations and researching more about the latest trends and technologies to remain ahead of their peers. Therefore, below are qualities an efficient WordPress developer should possess. Great Technical Skills A good WordPress developer should have an apt knowledge of different technologies to create a masterpiece and also have sound knowledge of coding languages such as PHP and MySQL. They must be well-versed with the technicalities of WordPress such as core plugins as well as the different themes in order to be able to create a website which would help you stay ahead of competitors. A Learner’s Mindset The versions of WordPress are steadily moving forward and so is the environment. Therefore, a good developer should keep up with the latest design, technology and security trends to build websites which are stable and modern. An outdated look or a bugged portal will tarnish your brand image thus causing stagnation in the business profits. Attention and Self-Motivation WordPress professionals need to continuously push their abilities. They should have a fair idea of almost all the aspects of the platform ranging from plugins to themes, front-end design and e-commerce. A good developer has to have hands-on along with adequate knowledge so as to figure out what would work best for a project. A self-motivated developer will ensure that his work stands out in the crowd and does not just make up the numbers. Solid Planning Skills A brilliant developer would be able to sort out chaos and make something out of nothing. However, lack of planning can become a serious problem which can result in delays in project delivery and the waste of time and energy. An efficient programmer should, therefore, have a schedule in place along with proper outlined goals that will help break down tasks and keep track of timelines. Testing and Receiving Feedback Thoroughly testing everything that is dispatched is an important skill for any WordPress developer. They should be able to ensure that whatever code is written, themes and plugins are tested across different browsers and operating systems to avoid last minute hassles. Also, asking for feedback is a good way to know whether what you’ve created makes sense and reacting positively to feedbacks shows maturity and dedication towards one’s creation. Hence, a good developer should be able to harness these skills and show that a project is in good hands. So, when next you are hiring or need the services of a web developer, consider these tips and I am certain you won’t regret it. Want to share more tips? Let us know in the comment box. https://www.askifa.ng/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/img_7484-1-5.jpg Social media has become a key marketing tool for businesses of all sizes who wish to increase their online presence. Some small businesses exist just on social media, using their Facebook account for example as their home page. It does have the advantage of making it simpler to keep your account up to date, and can be very effective for freelancers and sole traders. However, if you want to make a bigger impression online, you need to have both a website and social media accounts, and to get them both working harder for you, make sure they’re linked together. Basic Steps https://www.askifa.ng/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/img_7485-3.jpg Adding social media buttons as part of a well-structured website is becoming standard practise now, but rather than just having a line of little icons linking through to your accounts, you could make more of a feature of them, for example, design a specific graphics box to feature the account you favour or that gets most used. If you have accounts you only use infrequently, either do more with them or drop them – don’t add them to your website because you think it makes a more impressive set of social media links, as when anyone clicks through they will be unimpressed to find little of any value behind the link. Make sure your buttons and descriptions are up to date with social media changes and new developments too, for example, you don’t want to be still referring to Facebook “fans”. Next Steps You can go a step further too and add an embedded social media link to your site. This will show up as an updated feed visible on your pages, displaying your latest tweets for example as you post them. If you do this, make sure you are updating regularly, as anything out of date will imply your site is not current and is less likely to find favor. Include “Like” and “Share” buttons so that anyone interested in your content can easily add it to their own social media sites. Make sure you understand the differences between all your buttons, for example, the link to your Facebook page and an instant “Like” link. Measuring and Assessing When you’ve got all your social media links set up the way you want them, start running some analytics to find out whether they are being used and track how many times they are being used. Google analytics is a good place to start, and if you use social media management tools they will also have analytics. This information will help you to assess how well your buttons are working, so that you can change the position, design, or signposting to get more interaction. If you don’t study analytics you won’t be able to see how effective your strategy is, so it’s essential to keep track of the performance of your links. Adding the right social media links to your site in the optimum position and with the most effective signposting will add value to your website and contribute to your search engine rankings. It’s a simple task that will be worth the minimal time and effort it will take, so check your links today and make sure you’re taking advantage of this free marketing opportunity. Nigerians love everything with the word awoof, they would not mind as long as it is for cheaps. Twitter has however become the haven for their conversation as this gist has gone viral. Perhaps Jumia also knows the importance of giving food the public or putting out some form of CSR because who sells 5KG size of rice for 1k when a Derica of rice cost N250. Well, the idea is to download the Jumia App and buy your rice for cheaps. Here are some tweets. https://www.askifa.ng/1k-rice-is-the-biggest-nigerian-twitter-trend-for-the-day/

It is no longer a claim that technology has provided lasting solutions to most of our human problems. Although Nigerians have not opened their vaults to a pump flow of technological advancement, we still depend on the upstream production chain from China to help us meet how everyday need for tech gadgets and deliverable, the citizens of the country cannot dispute the need for technology is solving basic human problems. Interestingly, the country is moving towards a terrain of more computer output as against the human contribution. For instance, the Joint Admission Matriculation Board has evolved from the dimension of Paper Based Test to Computer Based Test. The move initially was meant with a lot of skeptical reactions by Nigerians, but over the last three to four years the use of Computers have become the standard for conducting examinations and in its own vice have proven to be more credible than the former examination pattern. INEC has been charged with the mandate of Nigerians over the past 18 years of Democratic inclusion in the country and like every modern Organization the agency is moving towards a more digital era. While the agency may not be ready for electronic voting yet, the agency has proven that it is tech-savvy enough to provide the basis for a credible election using technology. News made rounds that the mandate of Nigerians has perhaps been sold even before the elections begin next year as there have been clone PVCs ready for sales on Alibaba. However, Oluwole Osaze-Uzzi, director for voter education and publicity for the agency. announced that INEC will commence a hardware and software upgrade of its card readers, which in turn will enable all readers to detect counterfeit cards at Polling boots. Several security features and secret source codes are contained in the smart card readers which enable them to read only PVCs duly issued by the commission. Amazingly, if these PVC card readers are properly encrypted as stated by Oluwole Osaze-Uzzi then we are certain that without the inclusion of the faulty human factor, these card readers will take us a step closer to a free-and-fair election come 2019. Your vote is power, don’t be scared to exercise your civil right. https://www.askifa.ng/how-inecs-pvc-readers-will-enable-a-credible-nigerian-election-in-2019/

Demystifying Technology 4.0 was nothing short of awesome filled with expression and depth. The focus this month was on depression, which has remained an under-discussed topic in the Nigerian ecosystem. To most Nigerians, depression is totally foreign but funny as it may sound a World Bank stats show that over 22% of the entire population of the country suffers from Chronic Depression. The glowed of the event was however brought to life with the presence of a long list of budding Spoken Word artist, who thrived and dealt with the general focus without holding words back. Held at 35A Raymond Njoku, Heritage Center the event saw Joseph, Korede and Sola Speak go home smiling to the bank with cash prizes as they emerge as the winners of our cash prizes from the Spoken Word event. Well, if you missed this month’s edition you had better keep a close tab so you do not miss the next one. You could tell someone, who knows anyone who is a Spoken Word Artist interested in going home with our token to also start warming up for the next one. However, if you know someone who needs help, reach out to MANI for counseling, Depression is a not just a feeling it is a disease that tricks you and kills you at the end of the day. https://www.askifa.ng/did-you-miss-demystifying-technology-4-0/

Dear Nigerians, It is sad that we have suddenly learnt that the tools of various social media platforms can become our many escape outlets. It takes more than a long or short post on Facebook, a snippet video or pictures on Instagram and long trendy hashtags on twitter to stay sane in this country. These platforms are not us, they are our shadows built to tell us the world can be a beautiful Haven when in all, we live in a hell burning and burning with the sweat of our wrong choices. Nigerians, you know we could pray in our rooms and our religious houses, but most of us have decided to make these hashtags that trend for a while and fade-off into forgetfulness our way of addressing social causes. Now, it is not like I am saying it is wrong to communicate via social media, I am only saying most people join the conversation, because they’d like their handle on the conversation train, not because they have thought it through and are patriotic enough to wear the Nigerian grievance. Dear Nigerians, we have are a people of multiple ethnicity and it is high-time we had realized that there is a difference between making a change because have been directly affected by a topical issue and making the change, because we want a better Haven for even Nigerians to come. Your thoughts are valid, or option matter, it is rather time we begun to ask our governing bodies questions, we cannot begin to trend like fine millet for the mill while fire burns the place we call home. We cannot continue to start and end conversation with hashtags and prayers on twitter, and pictures and videos on Instagram while the next man is dying from a failed system. A system is father’s generation never thought of reviewing. Dear Nigerians, we can do more than just social media, because it is media and like every media house it is an augmented reality. https://www.askifa.ng/dear-nigerians-social-media-is-not-a-church/

Hi Davido, Congratulations on your BET accolade, you deserve more accolades, because you have paid it full. I felt even better about you winning when you gave that speech, I found my self clapping more and more than I could have imagined after you left the stage. I speak for myself and young vibrant Nigerians we are proud of you, your talent and your craft. Computers have become a part of our everyday living so they are very hard to discard in almost all spheres of our lives. We practically do everything on them, from office tasks to medical consultation, to research, to video consumption, to surfing and catching up with social media, our computers fill up all these vacuums for us daily. Since computers have taken such important space in our daily lives it becomes so important that we keep them running in perfect conditions. The battery life of our computers determines the effectiveness and productivities of these networking systems. These are five things you should do to save your computer battery. READ ALSO >>> https://www.askifa.ng/five-ways-protect-computer-viruses-hackers/ 1. Dim the light You really have to take that step to dim that bright light from your computer screen. Dimming the light of your computer does not only prolong your computer’s function by about thirty minutes, it also protects your eyes from damage. Most personal computers and laptops have been created with a shortcut key that leads users directly to the screen brightness resolution page where you could either brighten or dim your screen light. You can buy yourself some more time with your laptop today, by just keeping the brightness really down to about 50% of the highest brightness level. 2. Don’t Overcharge Okay, now this may just not have come out right but it is the truth. I know electricity is a problem in this part of the world, but you cannot just go on plugging in your laptop every time there is an opportunity to do so. It is like take drugs when you are not sick. Lithium-ion batteries are produced in such a way that you ruin them when you overcharge them. Although computer manufacturers like Sony and Lenovo have recently provided limiters in their batteries that prevents them from getting fully charged. It is still important to use one's battery capacity properly before plugging it in to get charged. This will help prolong the productivity of your computer when you need it. 3. Get a spare battery If you use your computer a lot and you know its importance, then it is only good that you get a spare battery. It almost as safe as having a spare Tyre somewhere in your car. You can easily swap batteries instead of overcharging your battery because you are scared of power failure. 4. Disable devices that are not needed Your device will come with several devices, but certainly, as a user, you will not get to use all of them. Trust me when I say that all these devices when enabled have a way of draining your battery power. So, if you connect your system to the internet through a cable you do not need to enable your Wi-FI. To keep your battery life prolonged all you have to do as a user is to simply check for those devices that are not being used on your system and disable them. 5. Turn off your system. Turning off your system every time maybe the hardest thing to do, but put your system in a place where it assumes humanly qualities when it is overworked it will certainly crash. Most computer users believe that hibernating their computer might just be the perfect way to improve battery life but that is not true. Turning off your system every time you want to do something else may not make sense, but when you are sure you would not be making use of your system in longer than ten minutes it is advisable to turn it off, it would only be saving your battery strength. https://www.askifa.ng/five-things-save-computer-battery/

Social Media has taken the turn of Slay Queens and Yahoo Boys showing their content on the various platforms that make up the entire social ecosystem in the Nigerian setting. However, while a lot of Nigerians have clouded the social media space with their display of pseudo-wealth and affluence others have gone on to make a name for their brand through these webbed networks that have propelled them to great stardom. READ ALSO >>> https://www.askifa.ng/how-social-media-is-tired-of-you-wasting-your-life/ Olajumoke the bread seller’s story was one of the most phenomenal trends on the Nigerian social space, from Photo-bombing a shoot by TY Bello, to become a global sensation, she is an epitome of how social media is potent enough to change your economic class and status in the click of one viral content. Also then three-year-old Oluwatobila became a national sensation when his pictures perfectly photo-bombed a wedding picture. Nigerians became really empathetic with the Young Lad who had been abandoned by his mother with a jobless father, following through the tides, Nigerians made him a community child and decided to turn tables in his favour. Recently, Instagram bore another fever with the trending video of five-year-old Tajudeen who had a similar story. The native Oyo born who seems such a very confident champ could not tell his age, because he said he had not been to school. Tajudeen like those before him became the core of celebrity and public conversation and has since been moved to the state government. It is funny how social media has moved from being just a get out spot to a discovery point in Nigerian. It also appears that virility across social media platform can be dictated by the originality of the content and the influencers behind it. https://www.askifa.ng/three-poor-nigerians-who-have-become-celebs-via-social-media/

When buying a smartphone, sometimes budget can be a stumbling block – be it an iPhone or an Android. One can’t always buy the latest smartphone in town but at the same time, you wouldn’t want to end up with just any device. For this reason, there’s an option to buy a used or a refurbished smartphone which most times come as a great alternative to many. ALOS READ >>> https://www.askifa.ng/permanently-delete-unused-apps-android-smartphone/ However, apart from the looks i.e. scratches and dents, there are a lot of things one should look for before buying a used smartphone. Below are three things you should look out for. Be Sure the Hardware Is Functional The first and most important check one should perform on any used smartphone is its hardware quality. You wouldn’t want to end up with a device with a faulty camera or dead pixel(s) on the screen. So, it is recommended to thoroughly check the device before purchasing so as to avoid future hassles. Check the IMEI Info to Find the Phone’s Authenticity After you are done with the first step, the next check that must be performed is to check if the device has been stolen or blacklisted. The best way to do this is by checking out the device’s IMEI number and cross-checking it on an online database. To check for the IMEI number, dial *#06# on the smartphone and once you have the number, open the IMEI Checker homepage to do a cross-check by simply typing in the IMEI number of the device. If the device has been reported stolen, the service will provide the blacklist status as either blocked or blacklisted. Check Activation Lock This is very necessary because if a reset has been done forcefully, you will not be able to use it on your personal ID. To check for the activation lock status on an iPhone, open the iCloud web page and type in the IMEI number to perform the check. If Find My iPhone has been enabled on that IMEI number, it will show up and thus, ask the seller to turn it off before buying the phone. Although there is no direct way to know if an Android smartphone has the activation lock enabled, however, you can switch on the phone and try configuring it under your Google ID. If the phone prompts that the reset wasn’t done the right way and that the old ID is required before you can configure it, it simply means that the activation lock is on. How helpful were these mandatory checks? Let us know in the comments. READ MORE AT https://www.askifa.ng/five-mandatory-checks-perform-buying-used-smartphone/

This is not a witch hunt, but it is the exact experience I had with the car-hailing service today. I did a quick run in my mind what if I had a health issue? What if it was a business emergency? Uber had no explanations to me or my colleagues on that messed-up ride today, because they were going to totally ruin every possible medium to escape or meet our deadlines. Now, what mediums has the brand put in place to check the cars on the service line? What are the basic elements that should be put in place when cars are accepted on the platform to drive people around Lagos? READ MORE >>> https://www.askifa.ng/uber-will-offer-cheaper-rides-to-riders-who-can-wait/ Today I had one of the most horrifying experiences with the car-hailing service. My driver arrives Work Station, with the final destination being Ikoyi, we have just arrived Falomo Bridge and his engine begins to cough like it had asthma and all I heard with my Colleagues on the ride was that the car had run out of fuel and the fuel gauge had been bad. It was not that you might think, but the driver says he had always complained to the owner of the car and nothing had been done about it. So is Uber saying they do not carry-out routine checks on their cars to be sure that they are properly safe? Private cars can go on with this and even more, but a public brand like Uber or any car-hailing service cannot take this route in terms of public safety because it comes back to haunt the brand and like a parasitic mushroom it could be gotten rid off by public users in the blink of an eye. Yes, I ended the trip, but what if it was in the night, what if the rain that kept us all waiting in that car had been heavier than it was and a car runs into us from behind would Uber come out to explain to the general public that the faulty was totally from their end? However, we don’t have to wait till such casualties are recorded before the brand put a strident measure on the ground to prevent unsafe cars from getting into the system. 2019 is just by the corner and there have been different aspirants and parties sprouting out like mushrooms, and the election system operates in such a style that voters have to take a long drink from patience’s cup to be able to execute their civil right. In 2015 during the election that led to the transition of power from the then ruling party PDP to the current ruling party ACP, INEC figures showed that 31,756,490 were the number of Nigerians who registered as potential voters. However, only 28,587,564 citizens where available to vote out of which 844, 519 were rejected. Now, all these facts and figures have their roots in the analog phase of the Nigerian voting system, where citizens can cast their votes using just thumb prints on paper. The collation process is usually crude and can be easily tampered with in the sense that collating officers could be tired and the entire verification process can become uttered by human factors, or by hoodlums who could snatch electoral boxes from different polling booths. However, going digital and electronic as you might call it may become the best, but not the best alternative to getting a better electoral output in 2019. For me, there are several bottlenecks as to why the electronic system may just not be the best alternative to the current at this time and stage in its growth. Basically, I would class them into two major reasons and from these, you could go on mention other reasons. Infrastructural limitations in terms of logistics are the first basic reason why Nigeria is not ready for an electronic voting system of election. I was at a polling booth during the 2015 election and electoral processing could not begin because there was no power, it was the voters at this booth that had to provide the basic amenities needed to power on the laptop needed for the verification process. Now, the good thing is that these electronic voting devices are powered by solar energy, a cheap way for the government to shy away from the actual reality that Nigerians are totally locked in the dark and do not have access to credible electric power supply. Electoral voting with paper and thumb is one of the most draggy processes ever, now using an electronic device to me would not make it any faster. Because when the number of devices that will be allocated to each booth, multiplied by the number of voters registered in each center is considered then the question would be crystal clear. How many electronic devices would be given to each polling booth, would we not have more people getting frustrated after a long queue in the bid to use these machines to vote? Would the entire process not look like a long queue at a non-paying Auto Teller Machine? The other angle to it is the human angle. Electoral results are a canceled using the thumb-to-paper system and this has really got me wondering if the electoral body has realised that this has been the major practice since the Country began its democratic system of government in 1999. An innovative move like the electronic device should only be introduced when there is a wider scope and scheme of public sensitization to be done by the electoral body. Personally, I do not know how the device works, but I am sure if I get informed about the rudiment of it, I would be able to use it to decide my civil right, but to the random woman and man on the street who is fed-up with the system of governance in Nigeria, this is not an option most of them have not been able to effectively use the thumb-to-paper system even after 19 years of operation in the country, so their votes still do not count. I strongly believe that an attempt at using it during the next election would not just be a flop, but it would be a total scam. A scam that would rob the average uneducated Nigerian of his or her civil right to vote, because I cannot imagine a country with 14% internet penetration trying to use an electronic-voting platform to conduct an election. The test run in Kaduna during the local government elections only validated the view of INEC Chairman Prof. Mahmood Yakubu that the country is not ready for the use of this platform. Currently, the ₦300 billion budget requested for the 2019 election by the Commission, which includes just the technological card readers may not be fully available before the election. So, financially the bases to get these devices are not even available to begin with. As noted by Engr. John Habila Head ICT at the Kaduna State Independent Electoral Commission, Nigeria is not ready to walk in the shoes of Namibia, because the country cannot totally carter for the electoral needs of 74 million registered voters across the country. Hopefully, the commission would learn the gradual switch medium employed by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, when it began its Computer Based Test, which has now become the firm standard of writing this examination nationwide. The trend has refused to become vague, but rather it is getting stronger. Everyday Nigerians have begun to complain on various social media platforms about how they or their loved ones were mistreated by members of the Nigerian Police Force. Interestingly, Celebrities too have begun to join the conversation. Recently, Se Oluwa Ni singer Reekando Banks shared his experience with F Sars officials on Instagram asking the “IF” question. VJ Adams also did the same thing. Now, there are a lot of Nigerian Youths who cannot come out to Social Media to share their experiences, because it has broken them beyond repair. READ: https://www.askifa.ng/nigerians-pour-out-twenty-years-old-reactions-to-abachas-death-on-twitter/ It is sad that no one is telling their story, it is annoying that the Nigerian Police Force has not made concrete moves to make the country safer for the people of Nigeria. In the depth of it, I have been trying to place the civil of policemen and I have noticed a total shift in the call. It is rather impossible for a Nigerian to travel through Berger on a public bus and not be harassed by these men of the para-military force. On two different occasions I have had first experiences of this misbehavior. My first offence was that I had a box, which had a boarding pass, my second was that I was a man. These two experiences however, gave me a broader image of a solution to this problem. What if the Nigerian Police went totally digital? What if some sort of AI medium was integrated into the system that does a peer-to-peer transmission that will help clap-down-on the bad eggs in the system. First, I know people get into the Police Force for different reason, but there was a more formal system that is totally free of the human factor, then maybe Computers would pick better qualified individuals to fill in the voids in the system. Also in the case of verification, using an AI system will also enable the force easily detect officers that have been reported on the Police network via video footage or via pictures, all of these will directly or indirectly re-tune the actions of these men. Finally, this may seen too futuristic for the average Nigerian man, but China has embraced the use of criminal detecting glasses and it has been very functional, the Nigerian Police could also think in that direction instead of just arresting every tom-dick-and-harry walking on the street without any form of criminal intentions. It may also be necessary that men of the Nigerian Police Force get full awareness that crime is not a gender based affiliation, so just because I am a man does not make me a potential criminal that should be searched at every junction women also commit crime. Aside suggesting that technological systems be put in place and ran as a total different sector that defines the actions and stay of these rancorous officers, Nigerians can do more, Nigerians can say more and react more than to just take pictures and recording video footage of these act of brutality on fellow Nigerians, we could start a revolution. The SARS revolution has gotten us no where yet, we can do more and even more than just this. READ MORE >>> https://www.askifa.ng/technology-is-the-lasting-solution-to-police-harassment-in-nigeria/

Undeniably, a lot is changing – be it from technological advancements to even just a change in consumer tastes or the rise in cheap labour due to economic downturns, the fact that many industries and jobs seem doomed to the trash cans of history cannot be ignored. Although businesses come and go, a very small number tend to survive through the generations and it’s even unlikely that some of the biggest names in business today will make it to the next decade. So, whether you’re trying to figure out a career path tailored to your abilities or just curious about the kinds of jobs that society is slowly fading out, below are five jobs that probably won’t be around in 10 years due to technological shifts within our society. Quick grab a cup of coffee and let’s take a quick look to see if your job is on the endangered-species list. Drivers Without a doubt, we’re already seeing Artificial Intelligence (AI) take to the streets with technology from Google and self-driving tech being sold in certain vehicles like Tesla. Though, the world will always have drivers of some sort and we’ll probably still be driving in 10 years but the writing is clear on the wall that there is a lot of capital being dedicated to handing over the wheel to automation. Self-driving cars are only a few years away and when the switch finally happens; it will not only displace a lot of drivers but also have numerous positive benefits. Traffic would ease up, auto accidents would drop and fuel efficiency will be maximized. Printers and Publishers It’s no longer news that print media is fading out of the industry. Technology has brought it to the digital realm and we have seen the results in declining newspaper readership and the rise of e-books. More and more individuals are going digital when it comes to entertainment and news hence making it hard for publishing companies and printers to keep up with these changes. Travel Agents If you are a prominent user of Wakanow, Travel Beta and other travel booking sites, then you’re slowly killing a long-established industry; the travel agencies. With the rise of the internet and the ability to book trips even at cheaper rates using sites comparable to travel agents, these old-fashioned jobs are headed for the rocks. Referees How many times have you found yourself jumping around your living room, hands in the air, screaming at a referee or official for costing your team the game with a bad decision or what you perceive to be a bad call? I’m certain it happens a lot but these officials are only human thus; they are prone to making mistakes. Although this has always been regarded as a respectable job, it is becoming more and more regular for both players and spectators to query the decision of referees but rather trust technology to give more accurate results. With this type of technology only getting more advanced, it won’t be long until referees are no longer required to monitor games. Retail Cashiers With the rise in self-service checkouts and automated processes during purchasing, the typical retail cashier will eventually fade away in the nearest future. Technology has allowed plenty of advancements in how we shop and customers want less human interaction in order to have a delightful shopping experience. What do you think? Share your opinions in the comment box. READ MORE AT >>> https://www.askifa.ng/five-jobs-will-extinct-2028/

$4.3billion! That’s right, four point three billion dollars (some reports claim it could be as high as ten billion dollars) is the estimated amount of money the Abacha regime, one of the most avaricious regimes in Africa in the last couple of decades, stole between a 1993 and 1998. While a moderate amount of Abacha’s stolen funds has been recovered and returned back to the Nigerian Government in trickles ($322million was recently returned by the Swiss government), a chunk of that amount still abounds in secret bank vaults across the world. In this article, we will take a look at three popular tourist buildings these stolen funds can easily build in Nigeria. www.askifa.ng Burj Khalifa This renowned structure is housed in Dubai. It’s said to be the tallest building in the world reaching above 828.9metres from the ground level. You are probably thinking, “It’s Dubai, those people have more money than anyone could phantom!” Well, we do not have “the money” of the United Arab Emirates, but we certainly have the money to build the Burj Khalifa. Out of the estimated $4.3billion stolen by the Abacha regime, only $1.5billion dollars is needed to build the Burj Khalifa. DisneyLand In Nigeria, growing up as a kid, I used to wish on the stars that the amusement parks I see on TV shows become real. I’ve always loved Disney Land, the most spectacular park in the world! The first park was opened in 1955 and cost $17million ( $157million in today’s value when adjusted for inflation). That’s just about 4% of the estimated amount stolen by the dark google monster. China Centre Headquarters Arguably the most eye-catching building in the world. I couldn’t get a tentative cost for the building of the Chinese State Broadcaster, China Central Television, but the stat below shows the advertising revenue of CCTV in 2010 by a particular industry. In 2010, the food industry spent around 3.9 billion yuan ($609,498,630) for advertising on China Central Television CCTV in China.” READ MORE AT https://www.askifa.ng/three-popular-tourist-buildings-that-can-be-built-with-abachas-loots/

I’ve kept wondering where this trajectory of mediocrity will take us in Nigeria. Ever since independence, we have blamed our politicians for corruption and every other political vice that has led the nation into economic disasters, rising inflation, and high unemployment rates. Every Nigerian is an expert at pointing fingers, if the fingers are not directed to the government, it will be directed at the next best candidate to blame. We never truly ask ourselves how we have all contributed to this cankerworm in the fabric of our society. We have never stopped to look inwards and wonder how as a Nigerian citizen, we are all culprits in the crime. Now before you think I am here to preach a certain brand of nationalism that will never exist in this part of the world, I am just here to state the facts. When I was growing up, university education was revered. When my siblings come back home for holidays, I will stand by the corridor and listen to their intellectual discussions about the science and culture of the world. They discussed the physical structures and every possible explanation for events. Headlines were analysed with the implications on all parties involved. One time my brother made a periscope out of cardboard just to prove the theories he read in textbooks. I was clueless when he explained the function of a periscope and I still remember my reaction when he let me peep into the mirror in the hole. Education was not forced, it was not vilified. Education was for the curious who just wanted to learn. For me, going to the university was not about getting a certificate, it was about the ardour of higher learning. How we got to where we are today is still baffling. Education has moved from the trajectory of want to have to must-haves. Parents now aide their children’s examination malpractice at the altar of loving the child. In this century where you don’t have to walk down to the nearest library to get educational resources or listen to the proper pronunciation of words, you will find graduates of not one but two universities deliberately mispronouncing words without excuse. Today, companies and government parastatals are headed by individuals who are not afraid to jumble words while addressing the public. We have gone from true learning to spitting bars and gossip. A screenshot of Nigerian forums at any time of the day will always have 90% gossip and entertainment with opinions and in-depth features taking less than 1% or none at all. How this country went from the brave men and women who were not afraid to demand independence even when they had no clue what they were jumping into to a country where idiocy is celebrated each and every single minute at every corner, no one can explain. I saw pictures of a state governor who commissioned boreholes and kits for shoe shiners and I laughed because right now, Nigeria is a great source of comic relief. One of the American shows I watch, The Good Fight had her main character almost going insane every time she saw an image of Donald Trump on television. In about three episodes, they replaced images of Donald Trump with pigs and every time, Diane will laugh uncontrollably. Of course, she was going insane, the American president is not a pig but in a society where you are the only sane person, you have no choice but to be insane. From your house to work to your place of worship to parties and events, the madness in this country is disheartening. Think I am wrong? Visit a newspaper stand and look at all the headlines. An average of two newspapers will always showcase madness. So how do you stay sane in Nigeria? 1. Open your mind by reading more books Read, open up your mind, continue to take yourself away from the vacant reality of living in this country. Everyone you work with doesn’t see beyond their noses, everyone you converse with is part of the Nigerian insanity. Take yourself away from it by reading, expand your mind. Read about the American declaration of independence and evolution of the British monarchy. Read about greek aristocracy and the development of the Middle East. This opens your mind, this shows you that world systems have evolved beyond the illnesses that have seemed to plague us forever. Whatever you do, read. Read and get better. Books will go a long way in improving your clarity. 2. Find Sane Friends They don’t exist but there are those in the quest to stay sane that will help you grow in your bid to stay sane. They are intellectual and smart, they think deeply, they see issues from concrete perspectives, they outline all elements involved and holistically breeze through issues. Once you find them, you can trust them with your life. 3. Forget the Nigerian Dream They lied to us, everyone, our parents, grandparents, our teachers, our aunts, and uncles. They lied, the Nigerian dream doesn’t exist. No one can make it with nothing in this country. They will tell you that they started businesses with N50, it’s a lie. They had friends who provided goodwill services worth N250,000 for free. Nobodies cannot become somebody in this country without the help of somebody. Think about it.
