Government has no business controlling how journalists conduct their interviews. If they break the law, sue them to court

This isn't government, this is NBC, an organisation that is tasked with ensuring broadcasting standards don't drop into the gutter.

A journalist can express their own opinion as fact in a personal capacity, as I believe some do here on Nairaland, albeit under the cloak of anonymity. They should not do so in their programmes in a professional capacity.

This proclamation by NBC makes sense and is not before time.

It is also nothing to do with freedom of speech. Don't lie blatantly and claim freedom of spedch, especially in your professional capacity as a journalist.

Some of these journalists don't do their research and come out with easily debinkable codswallop on their programmes which have a wide audience. Sadly by the time it is debunked, it is not done on their widely available platform and some have run with it.
