Irony1: Let me correct an obvious lie about Zik being in bed with Fulani by removing secession clause. In 1956 in Lancaster the British told all the delegates to that conference that as a prerequisite for independence, the borders of colonial Nigeria must not be touched. Awolowo signed that document, so did everyone else. So there was no way the British would have allowed secession clause so it was not Zik. Also the 1959 elections gave no clear majority seats needed to form a government it created a situation called a hung parliament(please read it up) and in that case a coalition between any two parties can get the majority needed to form a government. Sardauna fearing a coalition of Southern parties indicted to Sir James Robertson that the north will not go through with independence if the Southern parties for a coalition. So the British now indicated that it has be a coalition between NPC and any of the parties in the south. So why blame Zik? That lie has persisted for too long. More falsehood. Awo pushed for the secession clause, Sardaunna was OK with it, Owelle kyboshed it so it wasn't written in. The British were handing the country over, why would they insist on anything pre-independence, something that could be easily torn up and thrown in the bin if the tripod didn't want it. Also why would they insist on a coalition between parties in a country they were pulling away from, that doesn't make any sense which is par for the course for you. The event was one held with the proviso that independence was coming as we had gone past the stage of the British being able to stem that particular tide. You need to stop with the falsehood, the uncle telling you these things is doing you wrong. |

H Irony1: Ojukwu had his flaws and his arrogance no doubt but he wanted to use the element of speed for this knowing fully well the skills gap in the Nigerian infantry at that time. Banjo slowing down gave the Nigerian army enough time to mount a counter offensive. At the time of their advance the fleeing Nigerian troops from the midwest didn't practice a scorched earth policy so the supply line as still there. There is no speed nothing in moving men and artillery, stop this asinine notion. Everyone knew where the Biafran army were at all times so there wasn't even an element of surprise, that is why the Nigerian army waited patiently for them at Ọrẹ, a small town with no barracks or any military presence normally, and gently or not so, turned them back after a few days battle. Also, there was no supply line anything for the Biafran army in Benin, they had behaved badly on their way to Ọrẹ so were hated by the locals. In fact, those without arms were advised to change into mufti on their way back to Biafra and had to move about under the over of darkness stealing to feed etc The ones with arms did their bullying thing on the locals again on their way back to Biafra including raiding the Central Bank. Thankfully they didn't hang around too long as the Nigerian army were on their tail. Your lack of knowledge on the civil war interspersed by your need to make multiple posts on it is jaw dropping. |
Politics › Re: Biafrans Burnt My Mother Alive; I Joined Nigerian Army For Revenge - Rose Bassey by aswani(m): 7:38pm On Jun 08 |
Irony1: You and I know why you feel hatred for Biafran army officers because they were far more professional than the vietcong but your bias which is fuelled by bigotry made you think otherwise that is why I asked you what makes a professional soldier and a ragtag one and you cannot answer me. So you think an army that lost battle after battle is not ragtag? Did you know that some of the Biafran army went to the war front without arms. It was only when a soldier was killed that their gun was reassigned. Or that Achuzia used to hang back from battle spots and any potential deserters that he saw loitering away from there, of which he was ashamed to say most were Ndigbo, he summarily executed there and then. You need to read up about the Biafran army experience, the fervour for the war on the Biafran side ended less than 3 months after the first shots were fired. |

Irony1: Even the northern Vietnamese army were far more ragtag than the Biafran army and mind you the best Nigerian infantry officers made up the Biafran army so do some introspection here. The same Vietcong that showed the mighty US pepper and eventually made them turn tail and leave their country. That's who you are saying are more rag tag than the Biafran army that surrendered to an equally indisciplined Nigerian army, àbi? Maybe you need to find a better example. |

This Obidigbo is a real character that wears igbo tinted glasses all the time and treats the truth as optional.
Bottom line is Ikemba in charge of Eastern Region was sitting on a lot of oyel. When states were created, especially those not in Aligbo, that oil suddenly disappeared and he wasn't about to let that happen.
A shame because even after the (unnecessary) war, those states were still standing. |

rabzy: In Benin, Banjo had the eastern region and a good number of communities who are igbos, igbo-speaking or sympathetic to the cause in midwest at his flank. Oga mi, you don't know much about Benin or it's environs to say this. Once Banjo and his troops stepped foot in Benin, in fact once they left the outskirts of Asaba, they had no one sympathetic on their flanks. They were deep into enemy territory and that is about 40 or so miles from Benin Banjo couldn't move any faster as he would have needed supplies to move as fast. Troops have to sleep, exercise and eat. Even the Nigerian army heading towards Benin never caught up with the backsliding Biafrans because they needed to check flanks and troops had to sleep, exercise and eat too. Irony1 thinks they will just continue driving on vroom vroom until they get to Lagos, with big lorries and artillery, remember there was no expressway then. Moving armies towards a target is not like in the movies, it has to be slow and deliberate or else a nice trap awaits that can completely anihilate your division. |
