I schooled in Norway for 2years, migrated to neighboring Sweden where I currently live for years now.

So I am in good position to answer - as you base your comment on an old opinions on nairaland.

It is true that the Scandinavian countries are similar in culture, language and so many other ramification.
But when it comes to liberalism, multiculturalism, friendly immigration policy, less racism - Sweden wins hands down.

In addition to being more humane - Sweden has a more comprehensive and robust Economy as at today than Norway and Denmark - at least now that oil prices is in a mess - hence Norway is in economic strait because oil is the mainstay of the Norwegian Economy. Oil companies in Norway are shedding workers.

If getting a professional job in Sweden is hard then be rest assured that it is harder in Norway because of the (very) tight post graduation job permit, less ubiquitous and diverse economy/companies in comparison to Sweden.

I will advice anyone especially a Nigerian to move to the US or Australia if the opportunity arises but if it comes down to Sweden or Norway at this prevalent climate - please come to sweden.

I am not trying to say Norway is not a great place. Far from it. In fact, only very few countries in the world can match Norway in terms of standard and quality of living.

But in terms of immigration policy, liberalism, accommodating, more diverse industrial base, ease to find work and become a citizen after schooling - Sweden is better.
I was granted resident permit to study in Sweden

Will be coming there soon

hope am able to get a job to support myself

that's not true, the Swedish embassy since they introduced fees don't just reject you unless you present things that are not true, they always give each applicant second chance... and the best way to submit your application is the online application, it is safer and faster, I submitted mine on May 6th 2017 and I got reply from them to update my account balance and send the recent one, that's after sending the first one, they wanted to be sure of what is inside my account, and they don't care about many months account statement, just that month statement is good to go. To cut the short story short I was granted the visa, I am currently waiting for my residence permit card. Like I said don't apply manually, is not advisable at all, a friend of mine did and when abuja staff updated his details they mistakenly tick phd instead of the masters that he filled in his application, so u see? And it took him about 4 months to get reply, the program
Already started by that time, but he was very lucky, they granted him after they asked him for updated account statement. Sweden embassy is very direct with their online application..... here is the email I got about my application and biometric appointment.....
Bro which university are you going to

They grant my resident permit as well

I listened to the pulling out speech which he made, I think he really made some sense.

The deal doesn't seem to achieve much though...1/20% of 1 degree centigrade in temperature reduction in 100 years! i.e. If it is properly implemented. Not to talk of if one or more countries decide to cheat and don't fully implement it.

The deal is quite lopsided. Placing a lot of restrictions on the USA whereas leaving China and India with lots of room to manoeuvre and emmitt more greenhouse gases.

Renewable energy generation now cannot meet up with the current energy demands. Hence fossil fuels are still indispensable.

CO2 isn't the only greenhouse gas that causes the warming.

President Trump offered to negotiate a new better deal or to improve the Paris one.
The man is truly fulfilling his campaign promise

Pretty ironic that most (all?) of the people freaking out about this deal and how this will impact future generations of children, also wholeheartedly support Planned Parenthood.

Spending trillions of U.S. tax dollars to supposedly change the Earth's temperature by .03° in a century is insane.

People keep shouting science, yet "science" is constantly wrong about almost every prediction in the "climate change" arena. The science itself is only funded to prove a political point. People wishing to explore an alternative viewpoint cannot get public funding. That is propaganda, not science.

Donald Trump withdraws US from Paris climate deal
The Paris deal is too costly for the US, said Donald Trump as he withdrew his country from the accord. The US now joins Syria and Nicaragua as the only nations not to support the landmark global climate change deal.

The US will withdraw from the Paris Agreement on climate change despite international condemnation, US President Donald Trump announced on Thursday.

'In order to fulfill my solemn duty to protect America and its citizens, the United States will withdraw from the Paris Climate Accord," Trump said at the White House.

"As of today the US will cease all implementation of the non-binding Paris Accord and the draconian financial and economic burdens the agreement imposes on our country.

"This includes ending the implementation of the nationally determined contribution and very importantly the Green Climate Fund which is costing the US a vast fortune."

Trump said he was willing to reenter negotations or to negotiate a new agreement that is more advantageous to America.

"We will start to negotiate and we will see if we can make a deal thats fair. And if we can, that's great, and if we can't that's fine.

Please try as much as you can to come here with a driver's license. Most companies will not employ you if you don't have a driver's license. It is a requirement for most Job. It is very important here.

A Nigerian driver's license is accepted here for one year. Thereafter you can apply for a Swedish driver's license.

If you come here without a DL be ready to pass through plenty bureaucracy and plenty money to spend.

Lastly, though nearly all swedes speak fluent English language, the native language (svenska) is vital . It will heavily increase your chances of landing a job and also expand your social network.

I wish you all success in your application.
Bro I want to ask you a question that bother me

Concerning the Sweden migration board requirements for resident permit

I want to find out if is compulsory you must have 50% of the remaining part of your tuition in statement of account before applying.

That is after you must have pay the compulsory 50% deposit and have the maintenance fee in the account.

You seem to be in doubt.

Well, since your studies is for only two terms, that is 60 higher education credit, your permit validity will be less than one year which is from 1st August to 30th June of the following year( 10months). You won't get Swedish number- which is the single most important thing for easy living in Sweden. You for apply for 2years masters.

Send me your email so I can send my number across to you. WE can chat on whatsApp . I am applying too. You are arguably the only person I have seen on nairaland/Nigeria applying for same Swedish study permit. We get to learn from each other.
Check your email I sent you a message from another email.

Your program is for one year(60 HEC) , therefore you are good to go with 10months funding.

But know that you won't get a Swedish personal number because it is only given to students whose studies will last for more than a year.

Most Universities do cover NON-EU students against sickness, or loss of any kind regardless of duration of studies . In this case the FAS+ insurance will suffice. So you are insured already through the FAS+ by your darlana University. No worries. No need for private or personal insurance cover. When asked to upload insurance cover during application, upload your notification of selection result, as this agreement is stated there.

PS: Why didn't you go for a 2year masters.?

Whatever the case, Sweden is a humane and wonderful country to come to as a student .

Lycka till
Not my fault though, I didn't get enough information that am getting now

And no active Sweden student thread on nairaland, I would have apply for 2 years program

Again, my target is PhD program in Business studies, because I heard their PhD program is free.

I suppose your study will last for more than a year?

In this case, As a first time applicant. You need to show funds for 11months. That is 8064 x 11=88704. This is so because you will be granted 13months residence permit as a first timer which makes you eligible to register with the Swedish tax office (skatteverket) and obtain a Swedish personal number (personümmer)

If you show funds for 10months, you will be given 12months residence permit which makes you ineligible to register with the tax agency. In this case you will not get a Swedish personal number(personümmer) and consequently will not be covered by the Swedish social insurance scheme.. No free health-care. Difficulty in opening a bank account etc etc
Will they denie me the resident permit because of that because no fund again..all I have now is my maintenance fee, the first tuition deposits and the remaining part.

Is one year master's program....the school already gave me insurance for the period.

Again, you know how things be presently I don't have enough money again due to current exchange rate.

According to their site they 're ok with 10months maintenance fee I will go for that

I suppose you mean application for study and residence permit.

If I am right.
Migrationsverket don't dwell much on the previous transactions. This does not mean there should be blatant lump sum in your account at the verge of you sending in your application. As this will obviously raise suspicion.

The focus is to see evidence (by way of bank asset in your name)that you have the required equivalence of SEK88,704 in your local currency.

It is advisable to provide( if possible) a financial statement for 3months.

Which university in Sweden will you be studying at?
Dalarna university

The amount for maintenance fee is 80,640 ten months

8640 per month according to the Sweden migration website.

Good day everyone

Please i need someone to explain this statement for me

I am planning to apply for resident permit in Sweden embassy to study and I read this statement from their website concerning maintenance fee.

Own bank assets means you have money on an account that belongs to you and from which only you and your husband or wife, if you have one, can withdraw money. If you share the account with, for example, your parents or a relative, the bank assets will not be regarded as your own. Nor does the Migration Agency approve the sponsoring of your support by anyone else (for example, a relative or a company) during your stay in Sweden, if there is no money on your account.
Credit, funds or shares are not counted as your own bank assets.

I don't actually understand the last statement.....Credit, funds or shares are not counted as your own bank assets!

PoliticsUN Says 75,000 Children In Nigeria Risk Dying In 'months' by Atigba(op): 5:56pm On Nov 16, 2016
By Agence France-Presse
16 NOVEMBER 2016 • 12:50AM
The United Nations warned on Tuesday that 75,000 Nigerian children risk dying in "a few months" as hunger grips the country's ravaged northeast in the wake of the Boko Haram insurgency.

Boko Haram jihadists have laid waste to the impoverished region since taking up arms against the government in 2009, displacing millions and disrupting farming and trade.

Nigerian president Muhammadu Buhari has reclaimed territory from the Islamists but the insurgency has taken a brutal toll, with over 20,000 people dead, 2.6 million displaced from their homes, and famine taking root.
UN humanitarian coordinator Peter Lundberg said the crisis was unfolding at "high speed."

"Currently our assessment is that 14 million people are identified as in need of humanitarian assistance," by 2017, Mr Lundberg told reporters in the Nigerian capital Abuja.

Out of them, 400,000 children are in critical need of assistance, while 75,000 could die "in (the) few months ahead of us," Mr Lundberg said.

The UN hopes to target half of the 14 million people - a population bigger than Belgium - with the Nigerian government working to reach the rest.

But Mr Lundberg said that the UN did not have enough money to avert the crisis and called on international partners, the private sector and Nigerian philanthropists to "join hands" to tackle the problem.

"We need to reach out to the private sector, to the philanthropists in Nigeria," Mr Lundberg said.

"We will ask international partners to step in because we can only solve this situation if we actually join hands."

Maiduguri, the capital of northeast Borno state and birthplace of Boko Haram, has doubled in size to two million people as a result of people seeking refuge in camps for internally displaced people.

Despite the World Food Programme warning of "famine-like conditions", the UN has not declared a "level three" emergency, the classification for the most severe crisis that would draw more attention and desperately needed funds to Nigeria.

"The humanitarian response hasn't scaled up adequately to meet a growing demand for food, particularly in the more remote camps in the northeast," Roddy Barclay, intelligence analyst at consultancy firm Africa Practice.

Nigerian vigilante and security sources told AFP in September that at least 10 people were starving to death daily in a camp for IDPs near the Borno capital.

There is also the ongoing issue of insecurity. Despite the recent military gains, Boko Haram still prowls the northeast region and stages attacks and suicide bombings.

"The Nigerian army has scored notable military successes in containing Boko Haram. But that's not to say they have stabilised the region entirely," Mr Barclay said.

"Movement in remote zones remains high risk and the focus remains overwhelmingly on furthering military gains rather than addressing the very real socio-economic impact of the crisis."

Those zones include the shared borders of Nigeria, Niger, Cameroon and Chad in the Lake Chad Basin, said Ryan Cummings, director at intelligence firm Signal Risk.

"The scale of the humanitarian disaster in northeast Nigeria has been grossly underestimated," Mr Cummings said.

"There's an estimated one million people still living in communities inaccessible because of the ongoing insecurity."

Now the fear is that Boko Haram will try to capitalise on the failure of the Nigerian government - and the international community - to save the hungry.

"There are many claims that resources allocated to IDP camps are being misdirected into avenues of corruption, so aid is not reaching the people," Mr Cummings said.

Boko Haram could prey on that anger, he said, warning that "they could potentially end up being recruited back to Boko Haram."
