Instead of banning oggogoro, steps should be taking to standardize the production of the local jin with nafdac playing its role as the regulatory agency. That way, harmfull chemicals like methanol can be screen out during production before final distribution to consumers.
Fact is the adulteration is not done by the producers, the middlemen wholesalers/retailers are responsible for this nightmare.
PoliticsRe: Protest Over Ogogoro Ban By Bayelsans by atlwireles: 3:17pm On Jun 22, 2015
Ogororo is here to stay, insult the people as much asyou want, but your efforts will end in vain. Ogororo production needs to be regulated, not banned. There are billions of Naira earned legitimately by people doing their business for GENERATIONS. Try as hard as you want, it will amount to nothing. You are not the first set people, trying to ban it, they all landed nowhere.

The truth is that, we as a country are sometime not really sincere with our selves. This blatant stealing of our money (fuel importation/subsidy scheme) started before GEJ and madueke's administration. Thus placing all the blame on these two people is not the correct thing to do. Although they didn't do anything to stop the gross stealing in the oil sector they are also not the sole reason behind this theft. I hope our president will not toe their line but work tirelessly to reduce this stealing to its barest minimum.
Forget about stealing for the moment, you people should tell us the last time in Nigeria, NNPC produced 19 million liters of petrol in the last 30 years. NNPC is a failure just like Nigerian airways, NEPA and NITEL.

Extensive interviews with officials of NNPC and industry operators revealed that contrary to the perception that has been created for some time that the nation’s four refineries were operating at suboptimal capacity, thus necessitating the massive importation of petroleum products, certain elements within the system, with endorsement of the former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke, ensured that the refineries were starved of crude oil.

That's why Abacha, Obj, Yarauda imported fuel, because GEJ and Diezani wanted to pay subsidy on their behalf. This will end up like 99% of APC propaganda stories, Nigerians you people are in for 4 years of hell. July is less than 10 days away, we will be waiting for the petrol coming from the refineries. grin grin grin grin grin grin

When will you get sense? You don't make a decision like subsidy removal that has been in place for years just like that. You warn your citizens first. The government's job is to make life easier and not harder for citizens. I am an economist student and I've always supported subsidy removal but I protested against it in 2012 because there are procedures. I just knew I would meet your type here. Ignoramus.

PoliticsObama To Visit Ethiopia, African Union In July by atlwireles(op): 2:47pm On Jun 20, 2015
San Francisco (AFP) - US President Barack Obama will in late July become the first sitting American leader to visit Ethiopia and the headquarters of the African Union, the White House said Friday.

Obama's trip to Addis Ababa will come directly after an already announced trip to Kenya, his first as president to his father's homeland, press secretary Josh Earnest announced.

Obama will meet both the Ethiopian government and AU leaders, for talks on how to "accelerate economic growth, strengthen democratic institutions and improve security."

The election of the United States' first black president -- and the first with an African parent -- raised high hopes on the continent, but Obama has been a cautious friend.

In August last year, the White House hosted a huge Washington summit of African leaders and the upcoming July trip is intended to build on progress towards closer economic ties.

A presidential visit to Kenya had been put on ice while President Uhuru Kenyatta faced charges of crimes against humanity for his role in 2007-2008 post-election violence.

The International Criminal Court has since suspended that prosecution, citing a lack of evidence and Kenya's failure to cooperate.

Human rights groups have questioned the visit to Kenya, but are also asking why Obama is visiting Ethiopia so soon after a contested election.

Africa's second most populous nation held a vote in May that was described by many independent observers as flawed.

The governing party, which has ruled for over two decades, won a landslide, amid opposition allegations of intimidation and vote rigging.

"The decision by President Obama to travel to Ethiopia, which has seen three opposition party members murdered this week alone, is very troubling," Jeffrey Smith of the Robert F. Kennedy Center for Justice & Human Rights told AFP.

Smith said the timing, and the symbolism of Obama's trip, would "further solidify the image that America stands behind Africa's autocrats."

The White House stressed that it frequently addresses issues of democracy and political rights with countries in the region.

"We regularly, both in public and in private, communicate our concerns about some of the issues," White House spokesman Eric Schultz said.

"I don't think that is going to stop because of this visit."

Ethiopia and Kenya have both been on the frontline of the fight against Somalia's Al-Qaeda-allied militia Shebab, and have been important security partners to Washington.

Shebab units have been hunted by African Union troops and US drones inside Somalia -- but have outflanked the Kenyan contingent in Somalia to mount a string of gruesome cross-border raids.

In April last year the group attacked a university in Garissa, Kenya killing 148 people -- most of them students.

2)NNPC by the law setting them up finance their projects from their income while sending the balance to CBN as revenue for all tiers of government...so FG cannot borrow money and send to them so to say...

3)Raising bonds isn't a question of days...rather lots of calculations of short; medium and long term pros and cons are involved... you can use borrowing from commercial banks to understand my explanation better bro...

4)1 trillionhuh...do you know how much our total budget is? and even our total subsidy package?... nawa for una...all these beer parlour boys here sef...

5)Why not understand the basics of economics and elementary governance procedures before engaging in such discussions are these...

Just when Nigerians were groaning over the non-availability of petroleum products, hope seems to be on the horizon.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) said on Friday four oil refineries will resume production in July.

Spokesman Ohi Alegbe said the two refineries in Port Harcout would begin operations after turnaround maintenance, followed by those in Warri and Kaduna.

Alegbe was quick to alert Nigerians over the fact that all the four refineries even at full capacity, cannot meet up with our demand on daily basis.

“Even when the refineries work at full capacity, they can only produce around 19 million litres of petrol per day,” he said.

“There will still be a shortfall of about 21 million litres,” he said, pointing out that Nigeria consumes about 40 million litres of petrol per day.

Nigeria, one of Africa’s top two oil producers, is forced to import most of its petrol products due to its ailing refinery system, which generally runs well below capacity, sometimes at just 20 percent, due to neglect and pipeline sabotage.

Major cities in Nigeria are recovering from a gasoline shortage despite the end of a fuel distribution strike as fuel marketers, who are still not importing due to money owed them, have agreed to distribute fuel brought in by the state oil company, NNPC.

Alegbe said the turnaround maintenance for the four refineries had been ongoing since November.

The NNPC has four refineries, two in Port Harcourt, one in Kaduna and another in Warri, but have been non-functional for some time forcing the country to import petroleum products.

With refineries at full capacity, Nigeria will still import fuel because daily consumption rate far outweighs domestic refining capacity...

Can you compare this with reduced subsidy funding in 2015 budget by Jonathan and see why he did that...

Have you not read here and even in the said post the challenge they have with original project contractors abi buildershuh...Funding incapacitation?...etc
You know 99% of the noise makers on this thread don't know this to be the real situation on ground.

Ten ships laden with petroleum products and food items have arrived Lagos ports waiting to berth.

This is contained in a publication `Daily Shipping Position’ made available by the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) to newsmen on Tuesday in Lagos.

The document noted that the ships were waiting to discharge petrol, diesel, aviation fuel, base oil and bulk rice.

It indicated that 31 other ships laden with petrol, diesel, fresh fish, general cargo, buck wheat, containers, steel products and base oil were being expected at the ports.

The publication, however, explained that 14 other ships containing diesel, base oil, crude salt, buck wheat, rice, container and bulk sugar were discharging at the ports.
