Al-Qaeda preacher Faris al-Zahrani and Shia leader Nimr al-Nimr, who led anti-government protests, among those executed. Saudi said some of those convicted had participated in attacks in Riyadh in 2003 [EPA] Saudi Arabia has executed 47 "terrorists", according to the interior ministry, including Faris al-Zahrani, an al-Qaeda-preacher, and Nimr al-Nimr, a Shia leader. In a press statement read out on state TV on Saturday, the Saudi ministry listed the names of all those it said were already convicted on charges of terrorism. The death sentence given to Nimr al-Nimr, who led anti-government protests in the country's east, was confirmed by the Supreme Court in October. Faris al-Zahrani had been in custody ever since his detention near the Yemeni border in 2004 [Youtube] He was convicted of sedition, disobedience and bearing arms. Nimr did not deny the political charges against him, but said he never carried weapons or called for violence. Many of the other men executed had been linked to attacks in the kingdom between 2003 and 2006, blamed on al-Qaeda. Among them was al-Qaeda preacher al-Zahani, once considered one of Saudi Arabia's "most-wanted terrorists". He was detained in 2004 while allegedly in possession of weapons. An Egyptian citizen and a Chadian citizen were also among the executed, the ministry said. The rest were all Saudis. Reuters news agency reported four of those executed were Shia. Notably absent from the list, was Nimr's nephew, Ali. He was arrested at the age of 17. Nimr's execution prompted calls for demonstrations in Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province and in other countries of the Middle East, but the brother of Nimr called for calm in Eastern Province. "This action will spark anger of [Shia] youths" in Saudi Arabia, but "we reject violence and clashing with authorities", said Mohammed al-Nimr. Diplomatic protest Iran’s foreign ministry condemned the execution, calling it "the depth of imprudence and irresponsibility" on the part of the Saudi government. "The Saudi government will pay a heavy price for adopting such policies," Hossein Jaber Ansari, the foreign ministry spokesman, was quoted as saying by the semi-official Fars news agency. Later on Saturday, the Saudi government summoned the Iranian ambassador to protest against Tehran's reaction to the execution. Hussain al-Shobokshi, a prominent Saudi columnist, told Al Jazeera that Saudi authorities did not differentiate between "Shia source of terror and Sunni source of terror". "[Saudi Arabia] made sure it saw no difference between any form of terror, as long as it was threatening its people and its economy," he said. Listen to what Shobokshi told Al Jazeera: The interior ministry said that those convicted had participated in attacks against residential compounds and government buildings. Bombings of compounds in Riyadh in May 2003 killed more than 30 people. The following year there were 30 attacks, which led to a government crackdown on al-Qaeda and other homegrown fighters. Nimr had called for the oil-rich Eastern Province, where about two million Shia live, to be separated from the rest of Saudi Arabia. He also criticised the government for what he said was the marginalisation of the Shia minority in the country. The announcement of the executions comes just days after Amnesty International said that Saudi Arabia executed at least 151 people in 2015, the most beheadings in 20 years. Khalid al-Dakhil, a Saudi political commentator based in Riyadh, challenged "the integrity" of the rights organisation's report, saying it failed to mention Iran's execution record. "Iran executes far more people a year than Saudi Arabia, but it does not get the negative publicity Saudi Arabia has. This is something that must be addressed," Dakhil told Al Jazeera. http://adeatom..com.ng/2016/01/saudi-arabia-executes-47-on-terrorism.html cc: lalasticlala seun introvert obinoscopy myn44 ishilove

There's something about a winter wedding that warms our cockles. TV presenter Christine Bleakley wed long-term love Frank Lampard in a beautiful ceremony on Sunday 20th December and basically nailed all of the goals. Moving speech? Check. Beautiful dress? Yep. Starry guests and a mega star performance? YES. The ceremony took place at St. Paul's church in London's Knightsbridge and was attended by the couple's family and famous friends. According to Piers Morgan, who attended the event, the groom got a bit emotional when he did his speech… "[Frank] was very tearful during his speech," Piers told Good Morning Britain's Susannah Reid, "It was very moving." Christine looked incredible in her traditional white lace wedding dress, custom designed by British designer Suzanne Neville. The frock featured a subtle plunging neckline, ribbon waist and fishtail skirt with buttons all the way down the back. A delicate veil and light lace sleeves gave the tanned beauty a properly ladylike look. The gorgeous gown is thought to have cost around £10,000. And check out that ROCK! Definitely something to flash around. Other guests who popped along to support and celebrate with the couple included Holly Willoughby, Ant and Dec and the Redknapps. And as if that wasn't enough Ed Sheeran performed! Phil Schofield got a little bit excited about the live show and took a selfie before sharing it with the world. www.adeatom..com/2015/12/christine-bleakley-marries-frank.html?m=1 cc: lalasticlala seun

The British Secretary of State for Defence, Mr Michael Fallon, has said his country will deploy additional military advisers and trainers to Nigeria to help in the fight against Boko Haram insurgency. Fallon stated this while fielding question from State House correspondents after a closed door meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Monday. According to him, the military personnel, who will be in Nigeria next year, will be offering training to improve the Nigerian Army’s resilience to Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) left behind by Boko Haram. “Britain and Nigeria are both democracies; we are free peoples, free to choose our governments. “These terrorists – ISIS, Boko Haram – they are opposed to us, our ways of life and they need to be defeated. “So, we have been discussing today what more Britain can do; can we step up our military effort with more training, more help in dealing with Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and with dealing with medical evacuation and airfield defence. “And what more can be done to improve the intelligence Nigeria needs to deal with terrorism. “Well, this year, for example, we have had some 130 military personnel here helping to train the Nigerian Army. “Next year, I want to more than double that to more than 300 personnel are coming to offer training and particularly to improve the Army’s resilience to IEDs, which obviously have been left behind by Boko Haram when they were being moved out of the villages they captured.’’ · Cue out audio He stated that British government would want to do more to help stabilize those areas liberated by the soldiers. According to Fallon, the British government will not only be assisting in the provision of security and rehabilitation of the affected areas but will ensure economic development of the areas. “The President and I are aware both have to do with this kind of terrorism facing our countries. “So, he has welcomed our offer of support to help to clear the terrorists out of the North East of Nigeria. “And we are going to be working together on a wider issues of stabilization and economic development of these areas, providing long-term security.’’ http://adeatom..com.ng/2015/12/boko-haram-britain-to-assist-nigeria.html lalasticlala seun |
The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has urged Nigerians to disregard the propaganda antics of the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) against the people of Nigeria. The minister gave the advice in a statement issued by Mr Segun Adeyemi, his Special Adviser on Media and made available to newsmen on Monday in Abuja. He described as a `hoax’ the purported figures being bandied by the ISIL concerning the number of attacks and people killed by the Boko Haram terrorists in Nigeria in the last two months. He said: “the imaginary figures were part of ISIL strategy to shore up the morale of its dispersed and defeated fellow terrorists in Nigeria. “Apart from these fake figures, we are aware of the planned release of old videos of Boko Haram attacks in Nigeria through the terrorists’ preferred channel to give the impression that they have continued to carry out spectacular attacks. “Those videos are neither recent nor genuine. “The ISIL/Boko Haram propaganda is being deliberately timed to coincide with the Dec. 31st 2015 deadline issued to the military by the President to decimate the terrorists. “It is also aimed at distracting the military and striking at its all-time high morale.’’ The minister said that the truth of the matter was that the capability of the military had improved drastically. “There is a higher level of awareness among Nigerians concerning the war against terrorism, which has led Nigerians to increase their support for the troops on the frontline and to also own the war. “Therefore, the figures being pushed out by ISIL on behalf of Boko Haram represent nothing but figments of the terrorists’ imagination. “ We recently visited Bama from where they once ran their phony Caliphate, but all we saw were gallant troops holding sway. “We even shared a delicious lunch of ‘balango’ (a kind of ‘suya’) and soft drinks with the troops. “We therefore wonder where the terrorists have been carrying out their so-called spectacular attacks, as indicated by ISIL, when indeed the capability of the shameless cowards has been so degraded.’’ Mohammed added: “all they can do now is to target innocent women and children, using equally innocent children and women as their bomb carriers. “Decimated Boko Haram terrorists are so hungry, so broke, so sick and so desperate that all they can now do is to clutch at straws, hence Nigerians should ignore their meaningless propaganda. “In the days ahead, there will be more of such Boko Haram propaganda, targeted at weakening the resolve of our brave troops, instilling fears into the minds of Nigerians.” “The terrorists are also seeking to impress their fellow terrorists in ISIL. “Nigerians should see the propaganda for what it is: a hoax” he declared. http://adeatom..com.ng/2015/12/fg-urges-nigerians-to-disregard-islamic_21.html cc: lalasticlala seun obinoscopy introvert myn44 ishilove |
Jose Mourinho has agreed a five-year deal to become the new Manchester United boss, according to stunning claims in Spain. Spanish news outlet Fichajes yesterday reported that Mourinho has given the green light to replacing Louis van Gaal. Fichajes even state that he could have signed the contract already. They write: “Several media and journalists close to Portuguese Jose Mourinho say the technician has agreed a deal with Manchester United for the next five years, the news is not yet official.” The report is vague and doesn’t specify when Mourinho’s reign could start. Fichajes predomi-nantly report on Spanish transfer news to varying degrees of success. But Starsport knows for sure that Van Gaal has TWO games left to save his job at United. Saturday’s shock 2-1 defeat to Norwich at Old Trafford has left the Dutchman fighting for survival. Mourinho is desperate to succeed him after being sacked by Chelsea last week while Pep Guardiola yesterday sparked a scramble for his signature after Bayern Munich confirmed he will quit the German giants in the summer. Although Guardiola is still favourite to join Manchester City, his availability – along with Mourinho’s – has handed United two big-name options and means Van Gaal cannot afford another slip up. United travel to Stoke on Boxing Day and host struggling champions Chelsea next Monday. And Starsport understands that unless there is a drastic improvement, United’s owners will take action. That drastic action could now be appointing the Special One. United were booed off after their third straight defeat sent them tumbling out of the top four. And despite Van Gaal claiming his players are still behind him he conceded his job is now on the line. http://adeatom..com.ng/2015/12/mourinho-to-agree-five-year-man-u-deal.html cc: lalasticlala , seun , introvert dominique ishilove
