I was denied usa visa twice in 2018, when I wanted to apply for an ireland visa most people said I shouldn't disclose it but I said honesty is the best policy. Besides, I now have documents that have made their denials look irrelevant now. To the glory of God, my Irish visa was approved this month for my postgraduate studies. So, please disclosed it and perhaps write a letter of yours to explain why the denial happen and ways that show you are more eligible now. ubom123: I have a visa ban from Canada.
Will it affect my application if I want to apply for a visa to Ireland for postgraduate?
Do they share informations like UK?
I will appreciate a sincere answer. |

domex007: hi guys
i have been a nairaland follower since 2013.
i am sorry my testimony is coming late. i hope it helps raise the hope of nigerian youths seeking greener pastures here.
i have been denied USA student visa in 2013, 2014 and 2015 i then turned my dreams to canada (paid my school fees in full and was still denied student visa in 2016 after waiting over 3months) at this point my money was almost finished and my family started advising me to start studies here in nigeria
i enrolled for yaba tech part time program while i also chased my travel dreams in Germany. i was also denied visa to germany because i couldn't raise the 8,800 euro blocked account.
at this point, i was frustrated and desperate, but the work load from yabatech and my business kept me from depression.
immediately, after my graduation in Yaba i decided to give USA one last trial knowing fully well that i will be denied but i kept on pushing forward
my interview went thus: first, my interview was for 6;30 13th august 2018 but for the first time i got to the embassy very late and i was not scared or nervous. it rained heavily that day and the rain no pity me at all. i just protected my documents and went it. i was very cold and feeling sick. i just wanted to do my interview and leave. i was bending down to make my self warm and was almost sleeping before the person behind me told me that it was my turn.
My interview was very long.........
my interview: (a Beautiful black american woman): VO: Hi there. are you okay? Me; Hi. yes i am fine. i am just cold. with fake smile on my face. VO: oh okay why are you going to the USA? Me; for my undergrad studies in Business Administration and management VO: when did you finish high school? Me; 2012 VO; what have you been doing since: Me; I went for a computer diploma program for a year. then i started applying to Universities in US, Canada, Germany and Nigeria. Things didnt go as planned with the Abroad studies so i went for my National diploma in yaba that took me 4years. VO: Why did you choose to continue studies in US? why not nigeria? me: the educational system in nigeria is really poor even though it is affordable to study in nigeria. my program for example is suppose to be a program of 2 years but due to the strike and poor educational amenities it will take me longer time to graduate here in Nigerian university. And i believe in the proverb; "what is what doing is what doing well" VO: Why do you Change your course? Me; briefly after my studies i open a Human Hair Business with the financial assistance from my uncle but i need more board knowledge in the field of business. thats why i decided to change my program to help me business grow when i return to Nigeria. VO:how many Universities did you apply to? Me; A lot VO; sorry i meant how many gave you admission? Me: 6 VO: wow, name them Me: saint peters University, University of central oklahoma,Troy University, University of manitoba, Canada. Conestoga College, Canada, and the last one Westfallen, Germany VO: can i see some other admission and I-20 me: *i smiled because i know she didn't trust me. I passed them to her and apologized because they were a bit wet. Vo: passed them back and asked how i found out about Saints Peters University Me; My cousin who is a US citizen studied there and he has nothing but praise for the university. VO: what classes will you be taking? Me: I smiled because this question was the reason why i was denied the 2nd time. I answered them sweetly VO: what will happen to your business when you leave Nigeria. Me; Presently, i have filled my sister in on the basic things she needs to know to keep the business alive until i return VO: can i see some of the business documents ME; i passed her CAC document and business bank statement with just 400k in it Vo: who is paying for your studies? Me: my uncle? VO: Why? Me; He has been the one funding my education due to the death of my father in 2007 VO: what does he do? Me; He is a medical doctor VO: Can i see his bank statement? Me: Passed his bank statement VO: he is in the US? Me; Yes ( at this point i thought i will be denied) VO: what is his legal status Me; He is a citizen Vo: do you have his tax clearance? Me: Passed them VO: flips through and returns them
*starts Typing endlessly as i was waiting for my denial letter* God surprised me as she raised her head and gave me the White paper and said the magical words
VO: Congratulations and goodluck in your business Me; *straight face* Thank you so much ma
Me: stepped out in the rain. the jubilation in me chased the cold away My family cant still believe it until the day they excorted me to the airport with tears of Joy in the eyes of my Lovely mom
I got to US on December 4th, Cold has been dealing with me since....
My dear brothers and sisters, I give thanks to God for the delay i faced before because He was using it to help me build a business for my self here in Nigeria. i wore simple native attire, went last with so many red flags and still got the visa. It can only be God.
i hope my testimony boost your hope. Give it your best!
I also thank all Nairaland members especially Amefrica, Gravinton, Stewee, Kunlebal, Walspring, even Justwise as i Welcome myself to AMERICA This shows there is an appointed time and place for everyone. Congratulations brother, I appreciate your courage and resilient spirit |

Naughtyvirgin: Yes you can defer to the spring term even after getting your visa. All u need is a new i20 indicating the spring term and there won't be any issue at the POE Are you so sure about this. I don't think American immigration law allows this. |

patsodek: My Visa was approved on thursday july 12 at Abuja embassy. I got there 8am and was interviewed around 11.30am. I'm a medical doctor working with a popular Governmental security agency. I wore my wedding ring for the first time in almost 2 years
VO: welcome to the United States of America. Me: thank you sir. Good morning sir. VO: Good morning. VO: pass me your passport and I-20 Me: I did VO: do you have any passport which you've used to travel. Me: no VO: you are going to East Tennessee State University Me: yes sir. VO: what are you going there to do Me: I'm going there to obtain a master's degree in public health VO: You are a medical doctor Me: yes sir VO: You work with the Nigeria bleep bleep. Me: yes sir. I just smiled cos I know say matter don finish. VO: who is paying for your studies Me: my uncle and I have some personal savings. VO: what does your uncle do Me: he is a businessman. He imports cars and electronics. VO: do you have proof that he is going to sponsor you. Me: yes sir and I gave him my uncle's SOA. I also have my SOA with me.(but he wasn't interested in my SOA.) VO: this funds will be okay for the first year who will pay for the second year Me: my uncle VO: where did you obtain your medical degree. Me: bleep VO: who paid for your medical degree. Me: my parents. As a sharp guy I quickly added uncle. VO: I'm going to confirm this SOA you will receive a 10 years ban if it's fake.( he said it on 3 occasions) Me: no problem. It's genuine. VO: he gave me a white paper and 2 small slips and told me to enjoy my stay at ETSU. Me: and I said thanks.
Wishing those yet to have their interview a positive outcome. Try to have a decent profile and package everything very well. Please don't go there with an SOA less than your estimated cost of attendance. A guy interviewed before went with an SOA of 3m. The white woman at window 6 did the mathematics for him and gave him a denial.
My status still shows passport is still with the US embassy but I'm sure that God has done this one. Once again thanks to everyone that has contributed positively on this thread. Congratulations which Window do you have it |

subset: My people, my visa came through this morning. I follow for those silent readers. I'm yet to recover from the ecstatic feeling. I owe everything to this thread. I read every darn thing on this thread. I'm specially grateful to lamexx for reviewing my prepared responses and for the mock interview. This guy even called me with his airtime. So much love on Nairaland. Thanks to walspring for paying my sevis fee and to everyone that has contributed to this thread, you guys are awesome.
Abeg you guys should allow me to rant small. The idea for masters came to me immediately I passed out from service. This is the time I stumbled on this thread from a Google search, it brought a huge relieve knowing that most of the questions I have must have been answered here. I made it a duty to read at least 20pages of this thread everyday. It paid off !!
The stressed I went through for my transcript was just crazy. Shuttling almost every month from Lagos to Owerri to follow up on the transcript, even after paying one guy to help me expedite the process(Dude chop my money). The height of it all was when two of the transcript I requested was erroneously sent to one school. It took me almost 3 weeks to realize this error then I had to pay another 20k for another transcript which took one month again to process. Futo una well done!
To the transcript
The VO approved the three people in my front. One of them was an old woman going to visit her daughter, the other person was a lady on F2 going to visit her husband that's in school. She asked her how she met how husband and who will take care of her business when she is away. These people's approval bolstered my confidence.
I was very vocal as none of the questions were unexpected. I already have an answer for almost all the possible questions. Some people say you shouldn't rehearsed your responses but you should know what works best for you. I'm very good at memorizing things so I leveraged on that to practice most of my responses, this in turn strengthened my confidence. I practiced the questions every morning and every night even in my dreams . I just can't stand the thought of starting this process again. Some time ago I read on this thread about maintaining eye contact during the interview. It usually feels weird to me looking people in the eye for more than 3 seconds, so I knew I had to work on that and I did so by maintaining eye contact in all of my conversations with people for the past 2 months. It worked because I was able to maintain eye contact all through the interview. The VO was very conversational, her smile alone will mellow down your tension.
Below is my transcript
VO: Good morning (she is always the first to greet) Me: Good morning VO: please pass your passport and your other documents Me: Gave her my passport, the i20 and sevis receipt. She returned the sevis receipt VO: Looking at my I20, why are you applying to software engineering degree (with sharp eye contact) Me: I've always been a tech savvy person. I discovered during my undergraduate studies that my strength and motivation lies in the field of computing. I developed a penchant for programming during this time.It has become something I'm very passionate about. This program will help me solidify my knowledge and give me the ability to design, implement and improve software solutions across multiple domains. It will afford me the qualifications to take up a job as a senior software engineer in a Nigerian tech firm when I am back. I will be able to apply machine learning algorithms efficiently VO: typing... VO: how many schools did you apply to? Me: 3 schools VO: why did you choose this school Me: Aside from being one of the schools that pioneered the masters of software engineering program in us. I chose Monmouth university because their software engineering curriculum matches my research interest and offers the best fit for my career growth. My research interest aligns with that of professor wizzy* which is on the application of machine learning in personalized marketing. I am keen on being part of her research group to enable me gain practical knowledge of machine learning concepts. I also like the fact that their program integrates applied computer science, mathematics and management science in the course modules which will give me a well rounded experience in creating software solutions. I was also offered $4000 scholarship VO: what's your highest qualification Me: Bsc Statistics VO: why the change of program Me: well this is not a change for me though. Studying this degree will equip me with the technical knowledge and expertise to be able to implement machine learning algorithms efficiently considering my background in statistics. It will afford me the qualifications to take up a job as a senior software engineer in a Nigerian tech firm specializing in machine learning solutions. This degree will make me very desirable when I return back to Nigeria because there is a high demand for software engineers in Nigeria. VO: When did you finish school? ME: I finished 2015, after which I went for my compulsory youth service and that lasted till April this year. I was retained at the eCommerce firm were I was working a software developer. My primary duties entails extending the website functionality by developing and implementing ad-on magento plugins. I also perform routine maintenance which involves security patch installations, module updates and reconfiguration, search engine optimization... VO: what are the courses you will be doing and how will they be beneficial to you? Me: I listed about 7 courses and I repeated some lines from "why software engineering question": This will help me solidify my knowledge and give me the ability to design, implement and improve software solutions across multiple domains. It will afford me the qualifications to take up a job as a senior software engineer in a Nigerian tech firm when I am back. I will be able to apply machine learning algorithms efficiently (Though I said it in a different way, so won't start sounding like a robot) VO: I can see that your brother is your sponsor, what does he do? Me: He is major distributor for so and so VO: Has he traveled out of Africa before? Me: Yes he's being to Dubai, Us VO: Then she started typing for about 20secs and then asked: did you write any standardized test Me: yes, I wrote GRE (I got 292) VO: Let me see your score card. Me: I reached out to my envelop, at this point I can see her dropping my passport in the tray. Then I passed the GRE result She now said the sweet words.
My people my ear was still wide open I didn't go deaf oo. She now started rapping the usual " your i20 is as important as your passport always keep it on you, you'll need it at the POE and be ready to ...*I helped her to complete it* explain myself. Then she said I'll get a message in 7days to come pick up the passport.
Some people were denied but I didn't see any blue paper flying around. Abi na the 214g be the blue paper?
This has been a huge relieve. I can now close all the endless tabs that has been open on my system the past 2months
My advice to folks just starting the process: This has been repeated here countless times, please note that GRE is a vital component of your application whether you are seeking for funding or not. If you have enough time, abeg prepare for GRE and smash it.
All glory to God Wao nice transcript. You really prepared well for this. Kudos to you brother. I could also see that you gave more information than what is required but who care now? at least the visa has been approved. Congratulations |
