jckgroup1: 🏦 Nigeria might be getting a second stock exchange. And this is one I will be watching very closely.
A Professor — Prof Ndubuisi Ekekwe — just received an Approval-in-Principle from the SEC to launch a new securities exchange. It is called Contisx.
Targeting launch by September 2026.
Now before we get excited — AIP is not a full license yet. There are still boxes to tick before this becomes fully official. But the man behind it is not someone to dismiss.
Johns Hopkins PhD. Worked at Analog Devices and contributed to components used in the iPhone. Professor at Carnegie Mellon. TED Fellow. World Economic Forum Young Global Leader.
*This is a serious person.*
So what is Contisx trying to do? From what we know so far — it is designed to cover equities, bonds, ETFs, derivatives, and private markets.
The vision that caught my attention is this. Roughly ₦5 trillion is sitting outside Nigeria's banking system. Idle. Earning nothing.
Contisx wants to put that money to work.
They are also targeting diaspora investors, cooperatives, and state governments. Headquarters in Owerri. Regional centres coming in Aba, Kano, and Ibadan.
Now here is where I will be honest with you.
There are questions I don't have answers to yet 👇🏽
Will existing NGX companies be able to trade on Contisx?
What will listing requirements look like? How will they solve the liquidity problem — because even the NGX hasn't fully cracked this. Can retail investors like us trade from day one?
These are the questions that will determine if this changes anything.
*My personal take?*
Competition for the NGX is not a bad thing. It could push for better technology, lower costs, and more access for everyday investors.
But a new exchange lives or dies by liquidity.
And liquidity takes time to build.
This story is still developing(One i am very much interested in) and I will keep you updated as Contisx moves closer to launch.
Stay sharp, stay safe and invest wisely. Ndewo 👋🏽
Re posted If it can count as one, Assetbase is an exchange of sort too. Private placements, bonds, commercial paper. |

Audacius: Please, how long does it typically take to get CSCS registration done by stockbrokers. ARM has been on CSCS registration for someone I introduced to them for so long. To even open account and get kyc done was a hurdle. Been on the whole process for over 3 months. Is it that opening new accounts is made more difficult by regulatory requirements or this particular stockbroker has had enough clients and can't take more. Mails yield nothing beyond how deeply sorry they are. Thanks to all for the replies. Mail was sent to their complaint email yet no show. They only always regret their service quality in their responses. Another broker will be the way now that I am sure it's not happening to everyone. |

deathwing: Omo, how did Aradel pay dividend into the same account old whose number I don't know. Coronation registrars never accepted my dividend mandate from NIbbs, so where did they get this account number from? Omo I'm so pissed. IT SEEMS they have done an integration of the various existing systems that hold investors' data and MAYBE we no longer need to fill e-dividend forms. I bought some stocks for the first time recently and I started getting emails from the registrars. I also observe that the e-dmmms platform is longer active. It has been like that for some time. People have been mentioning they have been getting dividends they did not fill forms for. I have too. But I observed such go into my savings account while the ones I filled e-dividends forms for go into my current account as I requested when filling the forms. I assume the system has a criteria on where to send dividends to if it sees multiple accounts, even if it goes into an account you would rather not use. But an unknown account, as in your case, complicates things further. Automating dividend payment like this is a development that could be expected. But the problem I see is that one has to figure things out. There seem to be no communication on the matter at all or not properly done. I try to keep up with investment news but never seen where they indicated these "development". We just start noticing and figure it out. |

emmanuelewumi: They were a major player in the telecommunications sector during the era intercellular, cellcom, starcomm, reltel.
That was before the coming of GSM.
They had a wonderful growth story that never materialized In my opinion, it was the case that the CDMA technology on which those companies were founded was poised against GSM and GSM won. All the CDMA tech companies had no choice but to close shop despite investments. Maybe regulation made it difficult or impossible to transform from CDMA license to GSM if that was the license you obtained. They must have seen the signs and should have transformed. The Closed User Group (CUG) of CDMA seemed an answer to high cost of phone calls then. You paid a monthly fixed fee on a line and each member of the CUG could talk freely and unlimitedly to members within the group. Everybody must pay. There was a coordinator. Maybe a precursor of sort to the whatsapp group. Lol. It was the literal wireless intercom. Useful for companies and groups. I think they required a certain number to register. Maybe 30 or so. (I think Glo was also doing same later). By the time per second billing became a thing across all network, Econet (Airtel), MTN, GLO, and phone use grew, CUG wasn't that viable for the CDMA companies anymore as usage must have gradually shrinked. Another factor was that then, you could not just buy a phone and plop in a CDMA sim. The likes of starcomms sold phones with the sim. You chose from whatever was being offered. Though good durable phones that matched the standard of the time, the coming of new ranges of Nokia, Motorola, Sony Ericsson with their trendy, sleek designs that were adapted to GSM technology, offered more options and competition. All this even predate the iphone - android "war". The stack was against them. CDMA still exists though but I guess not in Nigeria where even landline seem obsolete. |

I believe their Regitrars Greenwich used my Bank details with my Stockbroker through which I bought the shares even though I already have an active mandated E-divided for ECOBANK with the same Registrars for another Bank. I wish other Regitrars do same to reduce stress for Shareholders, my Gtb Dividends have been hanging for so long, done everything they asked and got tired jor. On e-dividends matter, this might help some persons also: It so happened that there was an error in the order of my name for BVN. It was different from the order with my bank. BVN: Second First Surname. BANK: First Second Surname. E-dividends were unresolved till customer service pointed the error out when I went to resolve something else. A stockbroker confirmed the disparity will prevent dividend payment. I had to swear a court affidavit to get the BVN error corrected at the bank. Shortly after, I got my dividends. |

Please with regards to selling off shares and re-entering, do you receive your dividend when you re-purchase same stock or you have to go through the e-dividend process again? I recall First Registrars kept your record even if you sold off. Your account reads 0 shares. Saw that when I visited their office in the days when they still held FBNH portfolio. But I will like to ask about people's experience with selling off and buying again.
Do you get your dividend or you have to climb that e-dividend hill all over again. |
