At an event some days ago, I had a chance to talk to a group of parents about the opportunities that abound in the area of software development especially with the recent demand for such skills locally and how they could help their kids gain more exposure in this area. Their indifference about the subject and their response really got me thinking. So, while reflecting and trying to get my head around the reason why some Nigerian parents seem not to be in on supporting and investing in their kid’s coding venture, I stumbled upon the biography of Mark Zuckerberg, the World famous founder of social networking site, Facebook. A lot of us know about him. However, not many of us know about the influence of his parents in his journey to becoming a genius that is today celebrated all around the World. From his biography on Wikipedia, “Zuckerberg began using computers and writing software in middle school.” “His father taught him Atari BASIC Programming in the 1990s, and later hired software developer David Newman to tutor him privately.” “In one program, since his father’s dental practice was operated from their home, he built a software program he called “ZuckNet” that allowed all the computers between the house and dental office to communicate with each other. It is considered a “primitive” version of AOL‘s Instant Messenger, which came out the following year.” A close look at his biography reveals a critical but often overlooked role his Parents played in the process. Can we say if Mark was a Nigerian he would have enjoyed such support from his family? I leave that for you to answer. Teaching children to code is to teach them a programming language that runs on computer programs, applications, devices and games. So what really is coding? Coding is the art of telling a computer how to perform complex tasks. Once you know how to code, you can create virtual worlds within the computer where the only limit on what is possible is your imagination. Learning to code means learning how to think creatively, reason systematically and work collaboratively. And these skills are applicable to any profession — as well as to expressing yourself in your personal life, too. (TED Blog). According to Year of Code, “code is the language we use to instruct computers.” Call it “coding” or computer programming. There are several programming languages: Java, Python, C ++. If you know a programming language it is much easier to learn the others. As more people and organizations continue to develop an interest in coding for a very good reason: children who know how to code now will have an important advantage in the labor market in the future. READ ALSO: HOW TO ELIMINATE FEAR IN STUDENTS AND THE DIFFICULTY WITH LEARNING MATHEMATICS Learning to code is much more than learning a certain set of mechanical skills. It means learning a way of thinking that promotes analysis, problem solving and creativity. In the Eighties, cognitive science researchers began to identify signals indicating that learning to program computers made students “perform better in some aspects of problem-solving” and that the “effects of learning a language computing go beyond the content of that language. ” These results were known in 1984. Most Stakeholders in the education sector agree that for Nigerian students to be at par with their counterparts globally, it is necessary to acquire new knowledge, such as coding, programming, et cetera to name just a few. However, our educational systems have had a slower response to this cultural change. And as a result, coding or computer programming is yet to take its pride of place in our institutions of learning. As our National educational programs and policies evolve, there is an ever pressing need to ensure that every child have the same opportunity to learn to code. This need must be addressed at the National, State, Local and indeed family level. At the State level, both teachers and students should be able to access resources that can help to facilitate the process. From an early age, students should have opportunities to take computer classes, so that they are start getting used to certain programs and languages. The possibility that these classes are mandatory rather than optional should be considered. The skills that lead to gainful and stable employment are skills that should be prioritized by all stakeholders. It’s about preparing students for life. Students at all levels should participate in extracurricular and summer computing programs, not just the smartest or most talented. Some children may need more help at the beginning, especially if they have little confidence in their ability. Every Parent needs to understand that they have an important role to play in arousing their kid’s interest in coding and computing. These are some of the things that parents can do today: EARLY EXPOSURE Expose your child from a young age to computer coding. From the age of four, children can learn the fundamental concepts of programming in a fun and interactive context. Guide it in games or software that promote this learning. CLICK HERE: TO LEARN MORE AND REGISTER YOUR KIDS FOR CODE FUNKY 2019 NOW ACTIVELY BE A PART OF THE PROCESS Look for community programs, summer camps dedicated to STEM, or computing at schools close by. If you are looking for YouTube tutorials on how to teach children to code, about ninety thousand videos will appear. Encourage your child to look at them or, better yet, watch them together. Learning new kinds of stuff with your kids is a form of bonding and this will also help to strengthen your relationship with your child. BE A CHEERLEADER Getting involved in your child’s learning is one of the simplest and most meaningful things you can do as a parent. It is not about having all the answers or knowing the content beforehand. It means being present in your child’s learning process. The truth is learning to identify a problem and solving it can be a frustrating process. Encourage them through short-term mistakes; remind them how far they have come and how the learning process began. Guide your child to see what he learned from those “mistakes” that led him to a positive result. Recognize each of his successes. By doing this you are helping them develop critical thinking skills and establishing a strong foundation for future learning. PARTNER WITH THEIR TEACHERS It is important that you know what programs are available in your child’s School and what should be included in their learning process. After finding out what the programs look like, ensure that you talk with your child’s teacher or school administrators to add computer classes or, at least, provide resources and training opportunities, if the school does not have them. If they have them, encourage your child to register and take advantage of those classes. Attend PTA / PTO / school meetings and share your opinion. TO REGISTER YOUR CHILD FOR CODE FUNKY 2019, CLICK HERE Although, as everyone would agree, coding may not be for every child. However, every child should be given that opportunity to make that decision after trying. As parents, we should support, encourage and invest in the interests of our children, and we must do so. There is a whole world of opportunities that awaits you in the field of Information Technology, and all children deserve to be able to participate and benefit from them. It is an opportunity based on skills and knowledge. If there is a collaboration between parents, the government and educators, it can become an option for all equally. https://edufirst.ng/education/4-things-every-parent-should-do-if-their-kids-develop-interest-in-coding/

Clergy Man, Apostle Johnson Suleman in a 48- seconds video released on YouTube today has come out to speak about people’s reaction to his recent acquisition of a private jet. In the video, he said, ‘’…God told me we are going to have our own airlines, hangars. We are going to carry members for free…. So, if you are complaining about one jet, I don’t know what you are going to do when you hear twenty, I don’t know what you are going to do when you hear thirty. So, please keep your capacity, keep your gun powder because you will need it when the planes get to fifty. We are just starting’’. see video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S46qFQa4Ayg |
Lots of businesses springing up in Nigeria right now and I must say for the different businesses and business owners I have interacted with, I find some interesting. Hot Monday afternoon, just after the presidential elections. As a reporter, myself and my crew visited Ago palace way in Okota, Lagos for further investigation into the violence that took place there during the elections. As we entered Ago palace, though using Google maps experience has thought me to ask questions in Lagos. So, from bus stop to bus stop, we would always park to ask for Baba Ewe street. We got to a particular plaza just by the road and a big sign post clearly written "Fathers and Kids" was starring us in the face. Although curious, we had a task at hand and so I decided on our way back we could stop over and see what the place looked like. We finished our investigation right on time and on our way back I decided we should stop so I check out this place (I produce an SME program on TV and so don't blame me lol). Was I impressed with what I saw? Oh yes! Though not all that big a store but I think they taking an unusual niche to focus on is a big move. I immediately liked that Funny how their stuffs (especially for kids) are not expensive at all and I must say those sneakers, clothes and toys where darn premium to come at that cost. As a sharp guy, I can even Come there to buy and resell in areas like lekki and ikoyi sef lol. I asked the attendant some questions though and was impressed by their service. All said and done, I feel like encouraging the owners. So, guys if you are ever on the mainland or you live around Festac, Ejigbo, Ikotun, Ago palace way, Ajao Estate and environ do visit those guys, they (FATHERSNKIDS) are at 110A, Ago palace Way beside Femi Kilah Street, Okota, Lagos. In fact, if you live in Lagos or even Nigeria because they deliver around Lagos and Nigeria, you can check them out on www.fathersandkids.com.ng or chat them up on 07045454513/07045454614 or reach out to them and follow them on social media @fathersnkids (Facebook and Instagram). Just my 2cent piece for Parents looking at getting great deals for their kids at an affordable price. Let me drop some of their collections here to help those parents interested in checking them out.

Popular instagram comedian, Bro. Solomon has called out @Akin_btc_noni and sent out a warning to his followers and Nigerians in general. In a video, he shared on his instagram page, he is quoted as saying that he made a video earlier for the said scammer and endorsed his activities. However, according to him, he can confirm that the owner of the page is a scammer that has scammed a lot of Nigerians of their hard earned money. He further cautioned Nigerians and asked that they report the page. Akin_btc_noni is a bitcoin trader and was formerly endorsed by instagram comedian, bro. Solomon. The Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, has repeatedly warned Nigerians about trading bitcoins as according to the CBN, trading of cryptocurrency is not a recognised business in Nigeria because all over the world, financial sector regulators have rejected its inclusion in the formal financial services industry. The apex bank, therefore warned Nigerians against trading in cryptocurrency including its down-line variants such as bitcoin, which they said carry huge risks that cannot be insured or regulated. We have gotten footage of a fight that reportedly happened between Cab drivers and Uber drivers at the local wing of the Murtala Mohammed Airport in Lagos today. According, to Instablog9ja the exact cause of the fight is yet unknown, although some eye witness reported that it must have been due to the belief by the Cab drivers that the Uber drivers are encroaching into their territory”. It took the intervention of soldiers before normalcy was finally restored to the section of the airport as the Soldiers told the cab drivers that they were wrong as the Uber drivers also pay for parking space in the airport. With the introduction of Uber transport services in Lagos and some other metropolitan cities in Nigeria, cab drivers have reportedly been the worse hit as most upwardly mobile Nigerians have since joined the trend of Uber users around the World and this has led to a reduction in the earnings of the cab drivers. . Uber, a technology transport network, was founded in March 2009 in San Francisco, California, U.S. The Uber app connects driver-partners and riders. Driver-partners use their own vehicles to pick up riders and drive them to their destinations and are paid for each completed trip. Watch Video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SpwqbaUPYjk |

Following on recent inquiry by Nigerians on why Pastor Suleman has been seemingly quiet concerning this year’s elections. The fiery cleric has finally responded to his critics. In a church service at his headquarters in AUCHI, Edo state today, he said, When they say Apostle has not been talking, I am not going to be talking, I will be talking spiritual thing, from the spirit. That’s the truth… Apostle, who do I vote for? Are you going to vote for someone that will kill you? He went further to ask, even if you are deaf, can’t you see?.... He also added, that is congregation and Nigerians should never vote for anybody that will cut off their necks. In a move that looked like he was endorsing Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, he Advised his congregation further he said, “the Man that will steal your money is better than the one that will take your life…” Recall that Apostle Johnson Suleman and the Chairman of the All Progressives congress, Comrade Adams Oshiomole are from the same senatorial district. As the world celebrates Valentine’s Day today, I feel pressed to write about the history of Valentine’s Day and the legend of Valentine. Interestingly, according to research, Valentine’s Day is one of the second most popular day’s asides Christmas. It is reported that around 150 million Valentine’s Day cards are exchanged globally on this very day. Researchers agree that Valentine’s Day contains remnants of both Roman and Ancient Christian traditions. Then again, we need to ask ourselves, what does Valentine’s Day really mean? What is the story behind it? Why is it so popular? Am asking myself and I know you are doing some inner questioning too. According to research, Although, in the United Kingdom, Valentine’s Day celebrations started as far back as the 17th century, many other countries like United States of America, Canada, Australia, United Kingdom, Mexico, just to mention but a few have also keyed into this annual love festival. The word Valentine itself was the name of a priest who served in the third century in Rome. He was, according to history fondly called Saint Valentine or Valentinus. He was a Man who stood gallantly for love and opposed the decision of Emperor Claudius II which forbade young men to get married. Following his stiff opposition to the Emperor’s decision, Saint Valentine continued to marry young couples in secret. Upon discovery of his actions, the Emperor ordered that he be put to death. However, there is also another story or account of a Saint called Valentine recognized by the Catholic Church. In this account, we are told that the priest known as Valentine was in the habit of freeing Christians held in Roman prisons. When he was arrested, he was then imprisoned. During his time in prison he received different visitors amongst which was a certain young and beautiful maiden. We are told that he fell deeply in love with her and that before his death, he wrote a letter ending with the word, “from your Valentine…”. To his reputation, Saint Valentine became the most popular saint in England and France. From the different stories about St. Valentine, we can clearly see that he was deeply passionate about the celebration of love. Why is Valentine’s Day celebrated on the 14th of February? The Church decided to place the feast of St. Valentine in mid- February in order to Christianize the pagan celebration of Lupercalia. Lupercalia used to be a fertility festival dedicated to Faunus, the Roman god of Agriculture, as well as Roman founder Romulus and Remus. So as you step out today to celebrate the day, do well to remember the essence of this day being set aside to celebrate love. How are you celebrating Valentine’s Day? Do tell us in the comment section. https://businesslinetv.com/2019/02/14/what-you-dont-know-about-valentines-day/

Whenever I am giving an opportunity to address Nigerians on the issue of selecting the right leaders, I always say on such occasions that ‘intelligent people always make good leaders!’ It is that time of the year again when we select leaders to govern us for the next four years. As the presidential elections draws nearer, we must all focus on our role as citizens and our impact on the outcome of the elections. February 16, 2019 is a day for Nigerians to decide if they will continue with the Buhari-led administration or breathe the fresh air the opposition People Democratic Party is promising. We must all understand that our votes will to a large extent determine our future or let’s say our standard of life in the next four years. So, what are you using as a guideline to make that all important choice? Many Nigerians are often times left ‘confused’ by the candidates who come promising heaven and earth all within a period of one year. During campaign periods, all the candidates present themselves as having no defects. With sweet words here and there, all passion appears ‘perfect’ and convincing and very genuine. It cannot be faulted because we live in the age of ‘packaging’. At times like this, you need a ‘third eye’ to be able to see and assess which candidate is just packaging himself with a good image, and which one is truly ready to devote himself to the people. Indeed, it takes a little time and precision to do it. Here, I will try to present a few tips I think can help us vote smartly and not be carried away by the ‘sweet promises’ of the caandidates: 1.What are your intentions:Even though this is supposed to be very important, it is often considered trivial by most of us because it involves our personal relationship to God.Anything that has a good intention guiding it will bring goodness. So, what should be the right intention in this context?Intend that when lending your voice or support to any of the candidates, the intention is to choose a leader because of God.That is to say, you have the right reasons to be accounted for before God.If God wasn’t important in governance why do we have our leaders take oath of office? The problem is after elections most times is if the elected candidate in carrying out his mandate knows that his business is with God, but the matter is why we choose someone to be the leader of our business and then not involve God before making that choice. So once again, straighten the intentions that can be accounted for before God. 2. What is their track record? This means doing a study to trace the lives of the candidates in the past.It must be believed that whatever he has done in the past, will at least contribute to his future life.In the context of this election, the past needs to be considered. How far have they affected their immediate community, state and Nigeria? If all this while the candidate has never cared for even his immediate community, or so far he has not been been known for speaking out for his community, be rest assured that he will ignore the people’s affairs. So, Look and study carefully. 3. What are their vision, mission and programs?Again it is important we use their track record to determine this. Their past performance has a lot to tell us about their future. The most basic thing is how reasonable (realistic) the vision and program offered. This means that the vision, mission and programs that they present to us must be truly measurable to be realized. The source of funding, timing of implementation and how to implement it is clearly reasonable to do.Remember, people should not be fooled by the sweet ‘promises’ that are actually impossible to do.Indeed, we all know that ‘the politician will promise to make a bridge even though there is no river’.The important thing is how? 4. Who are the people around him? You will also need to look at the success team and the people who surround the candidate. This also often escapes the study of many people. I need to say this point because there were many incidents of the fall of leaders in this country because he was surrounded by people who were greedy and greedy. As a result, it is not uncommon for leaders surrounded by ‘ignorant’ people to be helpless and fall into the valley of corruption. So look for the candidates who are surrounded by good families, good friends, good success teams, and good political machinery. 5. Lastly, remember it is your responsibility: The choice is entirely yours to determine the leaders in this country. Choosing is easy, but being accountable for what we choose must have careful consideration. Indeed there is no perfect candidate, but we must continue to strive to achieve that perfection. At the very least, good business will bring goodness by God’s special grace. Who will you be voting for and why? https://businesslinetv.com/2019/02/14/five-things-to-know-before-you-cast-your-vote/ |

Wen ppl say PDP ll win Edo state, i wonder how dt is going to happen. There are 3 senatorial districts in Edo state n APC is popular and accepted in 2, that is Edo North and Edo south. So in a free and fair contest, APC is certain of abt 68% votes. As it is now in Nigeria, it is only a teenager that will expect the September 10 election to be free and fair. Mark my words, it wont. APC is going to carry the day. |

In a televised live service today, the Senior pastor of Omega Fire Ministries, Apostle Johnson Suleman asked Nigerians to pray concerning the Presidents health especially his kidney. He said Nigerians should pray for God to prevent a situation where the President would undergo Kidney transplant. The Man of God added that Buhari is not Nigeria's Messiah and that Buhari can be likened to the biblical Jehu and that after Buhari the Messiah would come that would lead Nigeria to the promised land. |

This is a cut from an interview the man of God granted Six months ago: Shortly after defending why his prophecies on the General elections failed to come to pass, Apostle Suleiman in the interview with Punch newspaper, made a disturbing statement concerning the president elect, Muhammad Buhari. Hear him. “Let me say this to you. In the next six months, people may stone Buhari. The reason I’m saying this is because the expectation is too high. Nigerians expect Buhari to put gold on their tables. Two, the large chunk of followership Buhari has are youths and young people and they are impatient. Young people don’t believe in progressive change, they want change. When they say change, they see a new picture. And Buhari has been talking from the two sides of the mouth. During campaign, he told us Boko Haram would be a thing of the past. Now, you are President-elect, you are saying people shouldn’t expect a miracle. Are you a pastor? If I wanted a miracle worker, won’t I bring a Mallam or a miracle worker? When you were being voted for, we were not voting for a pastor, so don’t tell us about miracles. Like I said, Jonathan will be seen as a hero very soon because that’s the Nigerian story. Anybody who they feel is not doing well, get him out. The next few minutes, they miss this person. If by September, there is still a blink in power, people will start abusing Buhari. You said you were going to do this. Two, who are Buhari’s footmen, the large chunk are ex-PDP people and of course you know, many are still defecting. Nigerian politicians are the most shameless people (I know); they can’t bear hunger. They are defecting now to lobby for offices. If you should check the people around the man, it gives you an idea of where the man is heading. If you check the agenda, listen to their campaign, it wasn’t about issues, it was about personality. Change this man! And I wanted us to talk about what the issues are, brainstorm to make things better. I heard he had a five-hour meeting behind closed doors with President Jonathan. He has now seen the reality of how deep the issues are and it has now dawned on him that the man sitting there was actually managing to survive. That is one thing about leadership. When the ball is passed to you, you realise it’s deeper than you think. So I do not see change in Nigeria. The only change I see is we have a breath of fresh air, a new government. To say there will be instant change in Nigeria, I doubt. We are praying as Christians and believers. It doesn’t matter what the enemy is trying to do in Nigeria, as believers, we know that the will of God will be done.”he stated Source: : http://streetgist.com/in-6-months-nigerians-may-stone-buhari-apostle-suleiman |
