PoliticsRe: Why We Should Not Sell Nigeria, By Babatunde Fashola by austinvsb1(m):
When and when fashola is ready to become the president of this country, Nigerians would be absolutely foolish to loose out on a chance of electing him!

This man is one of the scantily few politicians in Nigeria that is abreast of current realities and not afraid to implement policies that will propel Nigeria to greater heights!

There was one thread created by one guy (after the N50 bank charge news) about how Nigerians want to get the best things in the world but are not willing to pay for it!

You want good health care system but won't even listen to offers of compulsory health insurance payments from the government!

Just take your time and read through this write up.. we have to start taking responsibilities!

SmartMugu:
If Americans that work overseas don't pay their taxes, they are still allowed back to the US and never get arrested for not doing so. I don't think any country arrests anyone from the airport for not paying taxes. They may be eventually charged with tax evasion if the IRS has sufficient evidence, but definitely not denying ones entry or on the spot arrest like you just suggested for Nigeria.

Again, many Nigerians living abroad maintain dual citizenships. Are you suggesting they pay taxes wherever they live and still remit taxes back to Nigeria? If so, why? I asked because in the US for example, you don't live and work in Texas for example and pay state taxes to Alabama if you haven't worked there. I think same applies here, you don't live overseas and pay taxes to Nigeria.
In my opinion, it should be more of a developmental levy for being a Nigerian citizen.. Like the poster you quoted said, Nigeria needs all hands on deck for the quick development of the country! We are fast loosing pace with the western world!

Babe2sure:
OP, you made good points but your post is drown in unsavoury words at the same time. Almost all or virtually everyone knows that paying taxes leads to increased development which in turn leads to a robust economy, so you don't need to use the word "ignorance of Nigerians."

However, the taxes people pay are not used judiciously for developments, most of the time. It discourages some people from paying. What with cases of the monies being squandered.

If people don't get value for their money you don't expect them not to raise eyebrows when tariffs are raised. It keeps the mobile operators in check and on their toes. It should be a win-win situation.
You shouldn't be comparing what obtains at where you reside to ours in terms of pricing, because we operate different economies. Whatever happen in Vegas stays in Vegas!

OK o. We will be paying our taxes regularly. cheesy. Thanks anyways.
You made salient points as well! I guess my sentiment in supporting the OP is centered around the fact that I trust this government to handle incomes way better than the previous governments we'v had!

Sincerely though, if we want an economy like that of America, we'll have to support the government in our own little ways till we operate economies like theirs! The rules are simple! Ecomonies are built!

OP failed to mention that OPEC states the lowest minimum wage is Nigeria's, even Pakistan or so their min wage is upwards of 40k

And that's for those who have jobs by the way it is easy for hundreds of graduates to die, immigration tragedy? Hundreds of thousands applied for A few hundred positions
.

And I like that bit about taking our taxes to government grin
You want the Maximum wage but are not ready to contribute your quota to achieve that. You think the government will just wake up one day and increase your wages?! Increased wages happen all over the world as a result of boosted economy which occurs through judicious use of your paid taxes!

kontinu you hia!

Damn!!!! What a read! We really have lost our patriotism as citizens of Nigeria no thanks to people that are always branding Nigeria as bad! This is one of the reasons why I hate biafra agitators with so much passion, they continually fuel unpatriotism and hate for the country. Y'all should stop blaming the government for every situation you'v found yourself in; the blame lies with each and every Nigerian out there!

God bless this writer abundantly! There's a big need to reawake the Nigerian spirit! Write ups like this are the kind we should see on FP..

This has always been my point of view as well. How do you expect anyone in power to feel any sense of responsibility to the citizens when the citizens are not responsible themselves! Everyone, everywhere pays taxes, Nigerians see even the cheap taxes that are required of them as rip offs.. Una neva ready for development o!

If there's anything, Tonyebarcanista has easily made himself the best political candidate Nigeria social media can offer at the moment. By making comments to criticize wrongdoings in both APC and PDP, he has easily cemented his place as that political analyst that is not blinded by party affiliations!

I think barcanista has a huge chance now of running for a political position on any of the two major platforms and winning. The ability to try to stand for neutrality and truth no matter what is appealing to everybody regardless of parties!

I guess u're right in a way. He's a genius to his fans.
But don't you think to instigate your fans into insulting a private club house just because you were denied access is a little immature?
Maybe he could have handled it better.. I kinda prefer that he blew the whistle! I for one would never wann go to this club no matter how much money I make or i'm willing to spend. Coz now I get the impression that they discriminate, I don't handle discrimination real good

Guy pipe down before you blow your gasket. Davido is not as good as he or his fans think he is. Have you ever heard of real artistes like 2face, Psquare, or even Wizkid being bounced by any club in the world? It is empty vessels that make the loudest noise
I beg to differ! Davido does music the way he knows how to.. Nicki Minaj and Adele don't have to do the same kind of music but they are respected and have their own respective fans! Davido has his fans and they are in millions! He is a musical genius to these millions especially in Africa.. It's entertainment man, you do what works for you!

Celebrities get " bounced" all the time for the wrong or right reasons. The only clubs that give guaranteed entrance are the strip clubs.

If a star is in the house and shuts down the V.I.P section, Davido ain't going in unless he wants to join the regular crowd. The security guys at the entrance act on orders and might not know that Davido exists. I am not sure if there is any American that can identify Davido in a line up. It is not as if regular Americans give a hoot about anything happening beyond their shores. He should have sent advance team to make arrangements for his visit.

Davido being bounced should not be "breaking news". The club fellas are probably reading the tweets and laughing their a/ss off.

You have my attention! I think you are intelligent enough.. Now this is my point of view! The Americas (North and south combined) are not even up to Africa by population.. should an Artist celebrated by over 1billion people not matter out there!

Don't tell me the 'good music' nonsense! Asa isn't celebrated as much despite her unmatchable music talents! I mean, imagine if Asa sang 'Hello'.. meanwhile, I can point to more than 3 of Asa's song that are lyrically deeper than hello anyday, anytime!

Now back to Davido, despite having the highest population of entertainment loving blacks in the world, why do you think Nigerian acts (musicians and actors) don't get as much respect and recognition in the world over? I mean you hear this American and European artists plan world tours and visit places like Angola, Ethiopia and even Erithrea but ignore Nigeria with the highest possibility of making the most income in Africa?!

R.kelly and wizkid made a song on r.kelly's last album. I'v heard radio stations play shittier songs on the album but not the one with wizzy on it! Are some people scared of the potentials of allowing Nigerian acts get into international mainstream media and recognition? Your guess is as good as mine! Politics of subjugation!

I don't know davido, we'v never crossed paths, I don't know what could have transpired in the club but I will never be a party to smearing him by some Americans because he is not 'star enough' No way!

You are very funny.

A club is a money making enterprise, and they don't turn people away for amusement.
That's a blatant lie! Go to Europe or come to America where all your money can be ridiculed coz you are not 'a part' of them! Where you are made to feel like a lower human coz you are black! Where you'd have to wear the best clothes just to give out a quick impression that you are not an asylum seeker and thus shouldn't be immediately bounced at the entrance of the clubs without a look at your ID.

Your writings depicts how utterly low your thinking faculty is. So all those Americans you mentioned can leave America and come and misbehave in a Nigerian niteclub here in Lagos, abi? You guys need to start using your brains more and stop trying to be stupidly tough . Davido left Nigeria and traveled thousands of miles just to ridicule himself and mess up and u want those ppl there to wipe and lick his vomit like you always do for him. If you are king then be a king on your own domain ,don't cross your boundaries and if you do always respect yourself
You are the one that needs your brain checked hater! Where in the report did it state that he was bounced as a result of a misbehaviour! How can Africa ever grow when the average black man will keep hating his own and supporting the supremacists!!

FYI, Davido carries an American passport! Not even a resident permit oo! I think he was just being made to feel like a nobody, which in turn is makes his fans who hold him in high esteem 'black africans' feel like a nobody as well!

No matter what artists like Justin beiber or Chris Brown does anywhere in the world, they will never be bounced from a night club! I am presently in Houston, Texas. I see, read, not necessarily experience what's being done to blacks everyday! Break from this mental slavery and self hate, id.iot!

It's people like you that'd make other black men want to bleach their skins just to fit in!! Start thinking!

Ironically it is you that needs a brain change in order to enable to start thinking properly.
Number 1,davido is just a Nigerian music star not even an icon you need to go back to your dictionary and find out the meaning of icons. He is just a star of the moment whose music isn't evergreen. It is very funny that your brains was very quick to insult ppl but abysmally slow in asking probing questions like "what did your so called music icon star davido did to warrant such treatment"? So if he was disturbing the responsible ppl in the club that night he should be allowed to continue just because he is a Nigerian music artiste(note I didn't even say star)? If other responsible Nigerian singers like 2face,psquare,dare and many others can behave and comport themselves in a respectful manner why cant ur so called icon do the same? Your davido can be a star in Nigeria, have policemen carrying his bags and shoes or even give them dirty slaps all because he is a rich kid ,outside Nigeria and outside Africa he is nothing. So u can place his picture in your bedroom and pray to him every morning. Nigerians are intelligent ppl and well respected all over ,and the sending out of a Nigerian spoiled brat from a nightclub in the usa will not change that, because he wasn't the only Nigerian there .
Your opinion of Davido as a spoilt brat and an unsuccessful artist is that of yourself and yourself alone. Whatever you say or do, dude got himself to where he is today through unwavering hardwork and talent! Nuffsaid! I don't want to call you a hater!

You need to ask yourself a simple question, will Tyga, someone who has been proven to be way irresponsible, be bounced out of the club the way Davido was?? I DO NOT THINK SO!

Chrisbrown and Drake have gotten into more than two reported fights separately and together, did you hear of them being bounced from this clubs after such debacle?! Meanwhile, I am yet to read till date of a misbehaviour from davido in a Nigerian club needless say a club in atlanta!! C'mon!

You are one of the people I directed the 2nd paragraph of my comment to.. it's called Mental slavery, Try to break free!

Id.iots that have never stepped out of the shores of Nigeria commenting above and snaring Davido.. One mumu even said 'here in the states..." which state? Abia??

Americans underrates your own and you join in to want to underrate him as well! That's called f*ucking slavery retards!! You are mentally shortchanged to believe that despite being an A-list celebrated star in a continent of more than 1billion black people,Davido is way below his fellow American artists because he plys his trade in Africa! How badly has the black psych been damaged!!

His music might not be the best but Davido is a star, a music icon, a game changer in the music scene in Africa! This act by a st.upid club to treat him like he is a nobody is highly condemnable!

Hypocrisy/slave mentality is when you jump/vibe and celebrate songs like 'b*tch better have my money' and come around to say Lil Kesh sings rubbish!

Start thinking!

All the fines NCC has been fining GSM companies in Nigeria, what have they done with it that benefitted you and I?!

If MTN is forced to pay this outrageous fine, it will be the HIGHEST FINE EVER PAID BY ANY CORPORATE BODY!

Up to half of their staff could be sacked, almost all their contractors will be disengaged, their network which direly needs to improve will actually remain the same, or even get worse. Businesses which rely on mobile connectivity and data will suffer. POS and ATM transactions will worsen.

Like someone said earlier, Nigerians (not the leaders) are not corrupt, we are only victims of corruption.

If countries like switzerland can legally hold on to stolen government funds without anyone screaming corruption at them, one can only conclude that the media is controlled by people with obvious double standards that only scream when activities are not in line with their set rules!

I think a protest should be staged in countries like Nigeria, demanding that documents showing the total amounts of money stolen and stashed away in this foreign banks by former leaders up to people like Goodluck Jonathan be publicly released!!

How can a country hold onto cash meant for the development of the other without public outcry! That's just ridiculous!!
