Leader of Southeast caucus in the National Assembly, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, has explained that those who signed the bail bond for the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of proscribed IPOB, from detention are now in trouble.

Abaribe also stressed that as a result of agitations by the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra for a separate state of Biafra, bulk selling and export of Made-In -Aba products have been hampered drastically.

Abaribe, who represents Abia South senatorial district, made the disclosures last night in New York, U.S.A, while speaking at the Made-In-Aba Products Fashion Show held as part of the 2017 Convention of Abia State National Association of North America
Abia State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, was represented on the occasion by his deputy, Mr. Ude Oko Chukwu.

The Senator noted that bulk buyers and exporters of the products stopped coming to Aba due to security risks posed by Biafra agitation and the Operation Python Dance 11 undertaken by the Nigerian Army in the Southeast, which effects he said, hit Abia State the most.

He said: “I am a Nigerian Senator and not that of Biafra. We had advised Kanu, reminding him that his rights end where those of others begin. We are now in trouble, because we do not know where he is and how to contact him. Those that support Kanu’s agitation should think twice.”

Riding on his acclaim as ‘Made-In-Aba Senator’ Abaribe urged the people to be pragmatic and realistic, stressing that “we should trust that our leaders, both elected and not elected can get the best for us.

“We think we need Biafra, but this Biafra should be that of the mind that represents our ingenuity and our innate quality for hard work and enterprise, especially as oil proceeds keep dwindling.

“Igbo are largest and highest investors in the country, contributing to the development of wherever they reside and operate. In Lagos alone, we have built and developed about ten different markets from which over N3b are generated on daily basis.”

A new airborne Ebola-like viral disease, referred to as ‘Monkey Pox” has hit the Niger Delta University Teaching Hospital (NDUTH), Okolobiri in Yenagoa local council of Bayelsa State.

Consequently, a medical doctor and 10 others have already been diagnosed of the disease and had been quarantined at the NDUTH in Okolobiri.

The isolation centre was created by the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) and the epidemiological team of the state Ministry of Health to check the spread of the virus.
It was learnt that the NCDC and the epidemiological team were tracking 49 other suspected cases, who were said to have come in contact with the infected persons.

When The Guardian visited the hospital, the Public Relations Office declined comments.

But speaking separately, a health professional at the Department of Internal Medicine and a staff in the Chief Medical Director’s (CMD) office, who pleaded anonymity, said the ‘monkey pox’ disease was traced to monkeys and may have originated from hunters in the community.

They said the symptoms of the disease include sweating, cough, general weakness and rashes in the body.
They, however, assured members of the public of quarantine methods in the hospital facility to prevent the spread of the disease just like it was done in curtailing the spread of Ebola in the country.

Confirming the development, the state Commissioner for Health, Prof. Ebitimitula Etebu, said samples of the virus had been sent to the World Health Organisation (WHO) Laboratory in Dakar, Senegal for confirmation.

He described monkey pox as a viral illness caused by a group of viruses that include chicken pox and small pox, adding that the first case was noticed in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and subsequently spread to other West African countries.

Explaining that the virus has the Central African and the West African types, he said the West African type was milder and has no records of deaths.

“Recently in Bayelsa State we noticed a suspected outbreak of monkey pox. It has not been confirmed. We have sent samples to the WHO reference laboratory in Dakar, Senegal.

“When that comes out we will be sure that it is confirmed. But from all indications, it points towards it,” he said.

Ifeanyi Ejiofor, a lawyer to the leader of the Indigenous Peoples Of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, enraged with politicians in Southeast for taking sides with the Nigerian government on the proscription of IPOB, has labelled all politicians especially Governors as cowards for not supporting the demands for IPOB.


Barrister Ejiofor, who has been the legal counsel to Nnamdi Kanu and Indigenous Peoples Of Biafra (IPOB), disclosed to SaharaReporters during an interview that politicians in South Eastern part of the country did not support Nnamdi Kanu because they are more concerned about securing their political positions. He added that the politicians prefer to do this at the expense of backing the cause championed by Nnamdi Kanu. He claimed the current crops of politicians in the region of the country would be swept out of office in the next general election in 2019.

“Southeast governors have no power to say IPOB is a terrorist and that is very certain. I condemned it, and they’ve withdrawn it saying they never at any point say that. What they said is a political statement to obtain favor from the federal government.” Barrister Ejiofor said.

The lawyer added, “Some of them are cowards and are saying that because they want to secure their political offices. We will mobilise youths who will come out in 2019 to sweep out all of the politicians.”

Responding to claim made by a former governor Abia, Orji Uzor Kalu who said Nnamdi Kanu had left the shores of the country after the attack on his house by military personnel. Barrister Ifeanyi asserted that Mr. Kalu is concerned about causing harm and unrest in the country.

The former Governor of Abia State said he spoke with one of the relatives of the missing IPOB leader who revealed to him Nnamdi Kanu is now in London. Reacting to this, the Barrister said, “Orji Uzor Kalu is a politician who I believe is looking for an avenue to get favour from the government and that is why he is saying what he is not sure of.”

“I asked if he was there with the rampaging soldiers when the premises was invaded? He was not there. Also, he said my client went to London through Malaysia. Travelers will tell you it is not possible for somebody to travel to Malaysia and from there to the United Kingdom, it is not possible. Kalu’s statement is false and targeted at causing mischief because the military knows they have my client.” The lawyer for the group said.

The lawyer affirmed that Mr. Kalu has not spoken with any relatives of Nnamdi Kanu since the attack took place.

“I can authoritatively confirm that no member of my client’s family spoke to him and that is certain. He does not have access to any of his relatives whether brother or sister.”

Barrister Ifeanyi, commenting on the attack and shooting that took place in Nnamdi Kanu’s residence, he insisted that the military is working together with the federal government and Hausa leaders. He opined that the action is targeted at alienating the Igbos and to silence demand for Biafra.

He said, “This is a Northern agenda to cleanse the entire igbos. Those who are demanding for Biafra do not wield weapons nor carry arms. The army is following the ploy to forcefully capture Nnamdi Kanu and silence his supporters. There are other people like the herdsmen who walk about with AK-47s, but the government has not deployed the military against them.”

Convinced that Nnamdi Kanu is in the custody of the military, Barrister Ejiofor demanded his client be released whether he is dead or alive.

“The attack was properly mapped because they came to inspect the house two days before they struck. They shot at everyone and everything in the premises including dogs and cars. They entered the bedroom, and bullet holes can be seen all over the walls. I'm very sure they are with him, and I have petitioned the military to ensure they produce him dead or alive. He is a prince, and if he is dead, they should release his body for a befitting burial. I have said and still insisting that the military must produce him on the next adjourned court date.”

Ben Murray-Bruce a self-proclaimed Commonsense Senator purchased a $5m mansion in Beverly Hills after diverting series of loans.

The Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria AMCON on June 23, 2016, seized several of his Silverbird media companies for failing to make payments on billions of naira in loans.

An investigation by SaharaReporters revealed that Bayelsa Senator Ben Murray-Bruce illegally diverted a loan he obtained from Union Bank of Nigeria to purchase a posh property in Beverly Hills, California.

Ben Bruce’s constituents had threatened to begin a process of recalling him for non-performance.

SaharaReporters also obtained a bond receipt document that confirmed Mr. Murray-Bruce’s ties to the property.

Consequently, the union has asked its members across the country to resume work on Wednesday next week after a meeting of its executive members to ratify the decision on Tuesday.

18-Year-Old Boy Suspended After Proposing To His Teen Girlfriend In School, engagement ring confiscated.
Following their viral video on social media last week, it has been gathered that South African teen couple Mduduzi Tlou, 18, who proposed to his 16-year-old girlfriend (name withheld because she is underage) at Tholulwazi Secondary School in Tsakane, Ekurhuleni, were suspended few hours after the two got “engaged” in front of cheering fellow pupils. It was gathered that the school also confiscated a R2000 ring Tlou had bought for his girlfriend.
The pupils yesterday appeared before a school disciplinary hearing
Tlou told Sowetan that they had been dating for eight months. He said he wanted to marry her because she had “changed” his life.

I love her because when I met her, I was an alcoholic and she had changed all of that.
The Grade 11 pupil said marriage, however, was not on the cards for another two years.

“I paid R2000 for the ring. I bought it from Sterns. I had saved money for it,” Tlou said.

He said he did not know the proposal was against school policy. “I was surprised on September 18 just after lunch when they called us into the principal’s office, confiscated the ring and asked us to bring our parents the next day.”

Tlou said he was worried that he was missing out on learning while on suspension. He has already missed four class tests. He wants to finish his studies, find a job and marry his sweetheart
The girlfriend said she, too, was worried that she was missing out on her schooling.

“When they took my ring at school, I wanted to cry. He asked me to marry him and make him the happiest man on earth. We are not going to get married now. We will get married after we both finish school,” she said.

The couple’s parents said they were elated by the proposal, however, they were worried by the pupils’ suspension.

Tlou’s grandfather Jacob Xaba said:
Why is this relationship being turned into a crime? He must marry her. I will even give him my savings for lobola.”
The girl’s mother, Nomsa, said: “I am happy with the step these children are taking. Mduduzi is a good boy. I can’t think of a better son-in-law.”

Gauteng education spokesman Steve Mabona said the pupils acted indecently by kissing and touching in front of their schoolmates.

“. Surely such behaviour will not be tolerated in our schooling environment. A school is an institution of learning . The disciplinary process by the SGB . will pave a way forward.”

The pupils would be given a chance to write the tests missed, he said.

The United States (U.S.) yesterday urged Nigeria to look beyond a military option in resolving internal conflicts.

The appeal was made under the auspices of the United States Institute of Peace (USIP) in Washington DC when the agency convened a gathering of U.S. officials, diplomats and Nigerian leaders .

The conference as monitored by The Guardian, focused on “Peace in Nigeria: How to build it, and America’s role” and explored possible options beyond military operations. The symposium agreed on the need for the Nigerian government to strengthen the responsiveness of state institutions, address grievances and perceptions “before they become reality and improve accountability and transparency.”

Thomas Hushek, Acting Assistant Secretary, Bureau of Conflict and Stabilisation Operations, U.S. Department of State, in his concluding remarks said “durable peace” in Nigeria “will require a painstaking dialogue.”

Apart from the 15-year Boko Haram issue in the Northeast, Nigeria’s military is grappling with widespread conflicts within the country’s borders, the most current being the second phase of its “Operation Python Dance” in the Southeast that has put soldiers in direct confrontation with the self-determinist Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). Military authorities have also proscribed IPOB and declared it a terrorist organisation following which they announced imminent operations in South-West and South-South regions — a decision that has drawn the ire of civil society groups and human rights activists.

Re-echoing General Martin-Luther Agwai’s introductory remarks on centrality of the country to potential peace in Africa, Hushek describes Nigeria as a vey critical U.S. partner on the continent, but added that the President Muhammadu Buhari government must in its pursuit of peace first identify the options that citizens want implemented.

The country is warming up to charged elections in two years and the U.S. assistant secretary believes the “2019 election will be critical to Nigeria’s continued prosperity and stability.

“Achieving stability or building political peace is a political endeavour,” he said, just as he explained that responsiveness to people’s needs would
“build trust and encourage durable peace.”

General Agwai, former Nigerian Chief of Army Staff and former commander of the combined United Nations-African Union peacekeeping force in Darfur, Sudan is one of the members of the Nigeria Senior Working Group that participated in the conference on peace in Nigeria. In his opening remarks, Agwai described himself as a simple old soldier humbled by the presence of the State Department and the U.S. and “privileged to stand and talk to learned people across the world about what we are doing.”

His submissions on peace in Nigeria equating peace in Africa kicked off the first panel discussion involving Pauline Baker, President Emeritus of the Fund for Peace and Senior Advisor, Creative Associates International as moderator; Yau, Yunusa Zakari, Director, Centre for Information Technology and Development, Kano, Dr. Jibrin Ibrahim, Senior Fellow, Centre for Democracy and Development -West Africa; and Ambassador Fatima Balla, former Nigerian diplomat, civil servant, and politician.

While declaring the discussion open, Baker made specific reference to agitations in the South-East and urged discussants to be informal. “We tend to look at the outside without looking at the inside,” she remarked, adding that it would be important to think of the fact that Biafra agitation still thrives many years after.

The conference agreed that “Nigeria under President Buhari has made military gains against the extremist fighters of Boko Haram” but observed that Nigeria’s varied conflicts have kept more than two million people displaced and weakened stability in the Lake Chad Basin and the Sahel region. “Peace and security will not be achievable purely through armed force,” the USIP said.

It further noted that peaceful Nigeria is vital to long-term U.S. interests as well as to a reduction in the world’s refugee crisis, and to the stability of Niger, Chad, Cameroon and other nations of the Sahel.

Fortunately, President Buhari’s election in 2015 marked an advance for democracy as the country’s first peaceful transition of power to an opposition candidate. U.S. policy has supported his government’s campaign to push back Boko Haram.

The conference also built on what the organisers said was months of USIP-coordinated dialogues among the governors of northern states and civic leaders, including diplomats, retired civil servants, and scholars. “These dialogues join government officials and civil society in shaping more inclusive policies that can help prevent violent conflicts.”

The highlight of the event was a conversation among three of Nigeria’s most noted figures—Cardinal John Onaiyekan; Dr. Usman Bugaje, a senior advisor to the Sultan of Sokoto; and Dr. Oby Ezekwesili, a former vice president for Africa at the World Bank, a former Nigerian cabinet minister, and co-founder of the anti-corruption group Transparency International and the Bring Back Our Girls Movement.

Bayern Munich have sacked coach Carlo Ancelotti in the wake of their Champions League defeat at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain, the club announced on Thursday.

“Following an internal analysis in Munich on Thursday 28 September 2017… the club is to part company with head coach Carlo Ancelotti with immediate effect,” Bayern said in a statement on their website.

Former player Willy Sagnol, the ex-France international who had been serving as an assistant to Ancelotti, has been named interim coach.
Pressure had already been building on Ancelotti with Bayern enduring an inconsistent start to the season before losing 3-0 to PSG in the French capital on Wednesday.

Senators from the South East on Tuesday met with President Muhammadu Buhari over the tension generated in the region as a result of the activities of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB.

The Senators, who were led by the Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu said the South East zone was shortchanged by the current Federal Government.

Addressing State House Correspondents after the meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, Ekweremadu said they had fruitful discussion with the president over pressing issues affecting the South East.

The Deputy Senate President stressed that the South East is of the option that dialogue remains the best bet in addressing some of the issues affecting the region.

According to Ekweremadu, “For us from the South East, we believe that dialogue is better than any other form of engagement.

“So, we decided to visit the President and present to him some of the concerns of the South East including the issues of roads, general infrastructure; the rail, airports and others.
“We know that there are problems everywhere but we also believe that the South East is the zone that is far much shortchanged at this time than other zones.

“We also talked about the issue of appointments from the South East, especially with respect to the National Security Council. The President also told us that governors of the South East have also engaged him in the same problems we engaged him in.

We are reassured with the response we got from the President and we look forward to further interaction with him in this manner.”

The Senate has resolved that the unity of Nigeria is not negotiable in spite of ongoing secessionist agitations in parts of the country.

The Senate President, Bukola Saraki, after a closed-door session during Tuesday’s plenary, said the lawmakers agreed that the territorial integrity of the country must be protected.

Saraki said, “The Senate resolved that Nigeria’s unity is not negotiable and we are all committed to the territorial integrity of our country. The Senate will use all possible measures to make sure that peace is restored to all parts of Nigeria.

IPOB despite being declared a terrorist group by Nigeria government has carried out another protest from ekwulobia to umudioka in Anambra despite the presence of Nigerian army and the exercise of operation python dance II in south east of Nigeria and proscription of IPOB by South East governors.
