The Federal Government of Nigeria has confirmed the kidnap of 110 girls following a Boko Haram attack on students of the Government Girls Secondary School in Dapchi, Yobe State.
On Sunday, February 25, 2018, exactly seven days after the attack, the FG through a series of tweets confirmed the kidnap of the girls.

The FG through the information ministry said a total of 110 girls remain unaccounted for following the attack in the town of Dapchi in the northeastern Nigerian state of Yobe by suspected members of Boko Haram.

The students’ disappearance may be one of the largest such incidents since the jihadist group abducted more than 270 schoolgirls from the town of Chibok in 2014. That case drew global attention to the insurgency and spawned high profile social media campaign Bring Back Our Girls.

“The Federal Government has confirmed that 110 students of the Government Science and Technical College in Dapchi, Yobe State, are so far unaccounted for, after insurgents believed to be from a faction of Boko Haram invaded their school on Monday,” the information ministry said in a statement.


Information Minister Lai Mohammed also said police and security officials had been deployed to schools in the state while efforts were being stepped up to rescue the missing girls.

On Monday, February 19, 2018, the men of the Boko Haram sect invaded a part of Yobe State including the Government Girls Secondary School in Dapchi kidnapping several students and reigning terror on the school and the village.

According to a forum of parents of missing students, the number of girls in captivity have been given as 105.

Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari has condemned the girls kidnap saying it's a national disaster.

US condemns kidnap of school girls in Yobe
The United States of America condemned the abduction of over 90 school girls from Government Girls Technical College, Dapchi, Yobe state.

The Spokesperson of the US Department of State, Ms Heather Nauert, at a press briefing on Thursday, said “We are still trying to get all the details about that but we wanted to mention that we condemn in the strongest possible terms the terror attack on a school earlier this week in north-eastern Nigeria.

“The choice of targets including schools, markets and places of worship reflect the brutality of terror organisations.

“The victims in the attacks were girls who were simply seeking an education.”

“We continue to support Nigeria’s efforts to counter the terror group.


“We also support Nigeria’s efforts to enable more than two million displaced in the Lake Chad region to return home safely.

“United States continues to provide humanitarian assistance to those who were affected by the violence,” Nauert added.

British military offers to assist Nigeria in rescuing 105 kidnapped girls
The British military has offered to assist the Nigerian Army in the search and rescue operation launched for the 105 girls kidnapped in Dapchi, Yobe State.

The Guardian reports that the British army led by Major Ian Robertson, the general advisor, British Military Advisory and Training Team (BMATT) in Nigeria, recently made this known.

Condemning the attack and kidnapping of the school girls from Government Girls Secondary School (GGSS), Dapchi, Robertson lamented the fact that girls’ schools have become soft targets for insurgents.

According to NEW YORK TIMES Two members of Canada’s Olympic delegation, an athlete and a manager, were arrested Friday in Pyeongchang, accused of stealing an idling car and driving drunk, a local police official and representative of Team Canada said Saturday.


Lee In-ho, superintendent of Gangwon province police, declined to name the athlete or manager but said the driver had a blood alcohol level of .160.

Lee said that the pair jumped into the car and drove from Daegwalryong village in Pyeongchang to the athletes’ village, in Gangneung.

It was not immediately clear whether the athlete or the manager drove the car. Reports in Canadian and South Korean news media said the athlete was a 35-year-old skier who did not win a medal.

Isabelle Charest, Canada’s chef de mission, confirmed there had been an incident involving a Canadian athlete but declined to provide further details.

Abubakar confessed to being one of the brains behind the kidnap of over 200 girls at a girls secondary school in Chibok, Borno state.

Abdulkadir Abubakar, a leader in the Abubakar Shekau led Boko Haram, has said he’s seeking God’s forgiveness after repenting from killing and kidnapping innocent Nigerians.

Abubakar, who is in detention at a military facility, was arrested at Buni Yadi when he allegedly went on an espionage mission ahead of the insurgents’ plot to attack the commander of the Special Force Training School.

TheCable reports that Abubakar confessed to being one of the brains behind the kidnap of over 200 girls at a girls secondary school in Chibok, Borno state as well as the Buni Yadi massacre of secondary school students.

Abubakar claims to have repented saying since he had sought forgiveness from God, he believes his sins and atrocities will be forgiven.

Narrating some of his crimes, Abubakar said, “Myself and two other Boko Haram commanders, Abu Fatima and Paper, led most of the attacks on schools in Yobe between 2013 and 2014.

“We were also the ones behind the abduction of students at Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok. We also carried out attacks on schools in Potiskum, Mamudo, Damagun, Wagir and Ngarzarma, all in Yobe state.

“I wholeheartedly regret my actions and hope the Almighty Allah will forgive me. Allah said he will forgive whoever repents and asks him for forgiveness. I have repented and seek forgiveness.”

Abubakar also claimed that Shekau ordered attacks on schools, mosques, churches and markets, and also ordered abduction and rape.

Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, has disclosed that Boko Haram’s attack on Government Girls Science and Technical Secondary School, Dapchi, Yobe, which has led to the disappearance of an undetermined number of schoolgirls, is an attempt to embarrass President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.

The minister made his remarks when he visited Yobe State on Thursday, February 22, 2018, to get a first hand account of the attack that happened earlier this week.

The militant group had invaded the school in Dapchi town in Bursari local government area of the state on Monday, February 19, and made away with loads of food items from the school, sending students and staff running into the bushes for safety.

While addressing reporters at the school on Thursday, Mohammed insisted in the Federal Government’s position that the terrorist group is in its “dying days” and is merely lashing out with its attacks after getting pushed out of its primary base in Sambisa Forest.

He said, “We are still monitoring the situation and what I want people to understand is that since two days ago some of the students who fled to neighbouring towns and communities had returned and more have been returning.

“When we arrived here we have been briefed by the governor and the GOC about the situation of the students.

“We know there are few students who are yet accounted for, but we don’t want to manufacture stories on this issue. But give us few days, we will be able to tell you exactly the real situation of things.

“But you can see response of the military, the response of the state government is quite commendable. Since four days now we have been following the efforts being made to arrest the situation.

“But we must understand that these are they dying days of the Boko Haram and what they intend to do is to embarrass the government because they have been degraded, they have been pushed out of Sambisa forest.

“They have been starved out of oxygen and the oxygen they feed on is publicity so that they can grab the world’s attention. But I can assure you that with the determination of our gallant military, the days of Boko Haram are numbered.”

Conflicting reports of number of missing girls

A head count of the students on Tuesday, February 20, had revealed that at least 94 schoolgirls were missing.

However, there were conflicting reports by the Commissioner of Police, Abdulmaliki Sumonu, who said 111 girls were unaccounted for, while the state government claimed later on Wednesday, February 21, that only over 50 were missing.

On Wednesday evening, Governor Ibrahim Gaidam‘s spokesman, Abdullahi Bego, said “some of the girls… have been rescued by gallant officers and men of the Nigerian Army from the terrorists who abducted them.

“The rescued girls are now in the custody of the Nigerian Army.”

Dapchi residents stone Governor Gaidam for lying



When Governor Gaidam visited the community on Thursday, February 22, he made a dramatic turnaround and said none of the missing students have been rescued by the army. He told family members of the students to keep praying that the girls should be found.

He had addressed concerned parents at the palace of the district head in Dapchi town saying there’s no confirmation the girls have been abducted by terrorists.

He said, “Until now, we have no certainly that these boys (Boko haram) have taken these girls. We should keep praying so that God reveal the whereabouts of the girls

We directed the soldiers and security personnel to go anywhere the girls are said to have been seen and find them.

“I am together with the GOC, Brig-Gen Garba. His men went to places that the girls were said to have been sighted but, for the past two days, wherever the troops go, they were only told that it was a convoy of Boko haram passing through the villages but they didn’t see any girls.”

Angered residents showed their displeasure by booing the governor and throwing stones at his convoy of vehicles, destroying seven of them with shattered rear windscreen and banged up body parts.

Some of the governor’s aides, other government officials, as well as a cameraman were reportedly injured from the attack as the governor’s security team dispersed the crowd with tear gas.



A journalist in the convoy told The Punch, “We were in fear as the residents continued to throw stones to protest against government’s handling of the girls’ abduction.

“The angry residents ignored the tear gas as they vandalised seven vehicles in our convoy.

“From the little information that we got, they were angry that the Yobe State Government deceived Nigerians that the schoolgirls had been rescued when nobody was rescued.

“Some of them told the governor to present the girls that were rescued.”

The governor left the town immediately after the incident.

Attack on all-girls school

According to accounts by residents, the terrorists invaded the town around 7pm in over 18 gun trucks mounted with high caliber weapons.

Their loud shooting alerted residents, school students and staff who ran to seek cover in the surrounding bushes as the school’s food store was successfully raided.

Troops of the Nigerian Army later arrived to repel the attack, aided by military jets.

A school source told ThisDay that the militants targeted the students as they went into their hostel during the attack.

It is unknown whether the girls are missing as a result of abduction by Boko Haram or have simply failed to return after fleeing from the attack, with some reported to have arrived at their homes safely.

The school has been closed down for a week pending investigations.

The Police Commissioner in Yobe, Abdulmaliki Sumonu, on Wednesday, confirmed that 111 girls were still unaccounted for following Monday’s attack by Boko Haram insurgents.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the insurgents who attacked the school looted foodstuff, while the staff and students ran into the bush for safety.

Bisi Alimi related a connection between the Bini Empire and Wakanda. Is it possible that we're missing something?

If we're to agree with Bisi Alimi's takeaways from the Black Panther movie, the ancient Bini kingdom may have been the inpiration for the fictional kingdom of Wakanda.
Before its releae, Black Panther wa heralded as a manifesto of black and african identity as the first Marvel feature film to be set in Africa. It also features the first African superhero, T'Challa who takes the role of the Black Panther.

Since its release, the most attentive viewers have highlighted references to African culture and history, such as the Dora Milaje, the female guards of the King, inspired by the Amazons of Benin.

Among these many allusions, gay rights activist and commentator, Bisi Alimi has put a very interesting case forward.

He believes that the Kingdom of Wakanda, which T'Challa rules over and most of the movie is set in, shares similarities with the famed ancient Bini Kingdom.

Two great African kingdoms
In a lenghtily-captioned post on his Instagram account, the vocal commentator related the greatness of Bini to the imposing and technologically advanced Wakanda.

He wrote, "The image you can see above is the Benin Empire in mid-western Nigeria. It was one of the many powerful advanced kingdoms that dotted the western region of the country that is now known as Nigeria."

"Another of such advanced kingdom is the Oyo empire. I am sure that we all know the concept of an empire and a kingdom will not be called an empire unless it is powerful, advanced in technology, has a system of government that is well respected and an economic policy."

"Why am I writing about Benin Empire this morning?", he asked. "Well, it is the fact that we have been told "Wakanda" is imaginary. We were told that it only exists in the world of our imagination but when I saw this picture I realised it is not so."

The Bini Empire was one of the greatest in African history. It's capital was Edo, the area which is now known as Beniin City in Edo State.

At its height, it was one of the oldest and most highly developed states in the coastal hinterland of West Africa, dating perhaps to the eleventh century CE, until it was annexed by the British Empire in 1897.

Despite the popular perceptions of African civilisations at the time, Bini was well advanced in trade, government and structure.

Like Erediauwa, Like T'Challa
It is here that some of the similarities with Wakanda may lie. The Empire was ruled by the Oba, a position which was handed down by inheritance.

The Oba enjoyed a reputation close to T'Challa's. He was the spiritual and political head of the Empire and when trouble beckoned, the people looked to him to save them.

Much like Wakanda, the Bini Empire, especially the capital, was a structural phenomenon. While Wakanda had cities lying along cliff edges, Benin was surrounded by a great wall that has been described as the largest man-made wall in human history.

The city itself was a labyrinth of streets that was a testament to the planning and order that we now associate with the world's most advanced cities.

Is this enough to say the Kingdom of Wakanda was inspired by Benin? Perhaps, not. Across Africa, many ancient civilsation left their footprints in the sand and the annals of history.

The Black Panther movie did well to draw inspiration from these many sources and incorporate them into one seamless story. It is more likely that Wakanda was created in this form, as an amalgam of influences drawn from different cities and empires.

Regardless, the sentiment shared by many who have seen the movie remains valid. Wakanda is a black story.

In a world where the media has more power than any other single force (save, nuclear bombs and religion), it is important that we celebrate these victories, where the African identity is portrayed with pizzazz, verve, strength and depth.

Wakanda Forever!

The ex-priest is getting married nine months after leaving the priesthood.

Patrick Henry Edet is getting married, months after resignation.
He left the priesthood after announcing his resignation on the 31st of July, 2017 on the radio.



Eights months later, the former Akwa Ibom state-based Catholic priest has revealed his plans to get married.



According to NewTelegraph, Edet is tying the knot on March 17, 2018.

Reportedly, his fiancée will be revealed next week.

The former Rev. announced his resignation on air through his weekly live radio programme called Grace and Inspiration.

In his words, “From today Henceforth, I cease to be a Catholic Priest in my spirit and in my soul.

“I forgive those who will criticize me. I live for God…I seek freedom for my soul. As I leave, I leave smiling, I AM SO HAPPY THAT I AM FREE.”

Edet said it took a lot of praying and fasting that lasted for seven-month to make this decision.

His announcement was met with mixed reactions.

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of America, California, Prof. Gamalier O. Prince has said that Nigerian students are receiving an expired education.
Prince while speaking at the first joint matriculation of the University of America, an affiliate of Peaceland College of Education, Enugu said Nigerian leaders must fix the education system if there must be an improvement in the country.

He says: “People in Nigeria are getting an expired education. That is why you see people who studied engineering and are not able to do engineering feat. You see people who studied computer science and are not able to understand anything or diagnose computer language and what have you. This is because Nigeria’s educational system is a dilapidated one.

“The problem of Nigeria began from the citadel of learning and if you want to fix Nigeria, you must fix the educational system. This is because every Nigerian in leadership went through our academic institutions – politicians, scientists and leaders.

”They were not able to acquire training that could be used to advance the course of the country. If our leaders have failed, it is because our educational system has also failed. So, if you want to change Nigeria, change the educational system. So, the mantra of change must begin with the academic institutions and students.”

The VC, however, said that the University of America had introduced the “updated American education” into Nigeria for students in Peaceland College, Enugu.

He, therefore, informed the matriculating students that the university is ready to mould them and help them realize their dreams.

No fewer than 22 persons were killed and 28 others injured in a multiple suicide bombing at a market in Konduga Local Government Area of Borno.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the incident occurred on Friday at about 9:00 PM, when three suicide bombers detonated explosives at the “Kasuwar Kifi” in the outskirts of Konduga town.

A witness, Idrissa Bana, said the three suicide bombers simultaneously detonated the Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) on their bodies in the crowded market.

Bana said that the explosives killed 22 persons and 28 others sustained injuries, adding that those injured were evacuated to a hospital in Maiduguri.

“There were a lot of people doing last minute shopping when the suicide bombers hit the market,” he said.

A competent security source confirmed the incident, adding that at the moment the identity of the suicide bombers and exact number of causalities could not be ascertain for now.

Obafemi who plays for Chinese Outfit Shanghai Shenhua took to his Official Instagram account to post a picture of him and his son who was in the expensive car.

The Federal High Court sitting in Wawa Cantonment, Kainji, Niger State, has sentenced a Boko Haram terrorist to 15 years imprisonment.
The convict, 35-year-old Haruna Yahaya, bagged the jail term on Monday, February 12, 2018, for participating in the abduction of over 200 schoolgirls in Chibok, Borno State, in 2014.



Yahaya, whose left arm and left leg are crippled, pleaded guilty to the two counts preferred against him by the Federal Government.

He, however, pleaded for mercy, saying he was forced into the terror group.

He was said to have participated in the group’s attacks in Chibok, Chibok Local Government Area of Borno State and Gabsuri town in the Damboa Local Government of the state.

Delivering judgement, the presiding judge said the court was “not fooled” by Yahaya’s story, adding that the convict was “using the misfortune of his handicap to draw sympathy.”


The judge ruled that sentence starts counting from Monday, February 12, even though Yahaya has been in detention since 2015.

On the night of April 14-15, 2014, the sect invaded the Government Secondary School in Chibok town, Borno State, and kidnapped 276 female students of the school.

Over the next few months, 57 of the schoolgirls managed to escape.

In May 2016, one of the missing girls, Amina Ali, was also found. She claimed that the remaining girls were still in captivity, but that six had died.

1n October 2016, the terrorists released 21 of the girls while 82 more of them freed in May 2017 in an exchange deal struck by the terror group and the Federal Government.

It was reported that the sect had demanded the release of some of its commanders in the government’s custody.

It was alleged that huge amount of money was also received by the notorious group.

Founded by by Mohammed Yusuf in 2002 and later led by Abubakar Shekau, Boko Haram has killed tens of thousands of people in the northeast and displaced over 2.3 million from their homes.

In 2015, the group which had pledged allegiance to the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), was ranked as the world’s deadliest terror group by the Global Terrorism Index.

The chairman of the board of NIPSS, John Shagaya has been reported dead in an auto crash in Jos, Plateau state.

Newly appointed chairman of the NIPSS board, retired General John Nanzip Shagaya, has been reported dead after he was involved in an auto crash.
Naij reports that Shagaya died in the car accident on his way to Jos from his hometown, Langtang.

Family sources were quoted as saying the sad incident occurred on Sunday, February, 11, 2018.

The late General Shagaya was recently appointed as the chairman of the National Institute for Policy and Strategy Studies (NIPSS) by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Shagaya’s death is coming a year after the death of his wife, Pauline Tare Philomena, after a brief illness.

South African court has convicted a self-styled pastor for spraying his followers in the face with domestic insect killer as a supposed cure for an illness.

The pastor Lethebo Rabalago popularly known as Doom was also found guilty of contravening the Agricultural Stock Remedies Act.

He is yet to be given a sentence after the verdict by Mookgopong Magistrates Court in Limpopo province.

On Friday, magistrate Frans Mahodi told the court the state had proved its case beyond reasonable doubt that the five people who laid assault charges were violated, South Africa’s national broadcaster SABC reports.


The magistrate said the fact that the complainants “were sprayed on their faces with Doom makes this offence worst of its kind”.

He also revealed some of them had suffered “detrimental side effects… like coughing for more than seven months” after the incident.

Photographs of Rabalago dunned “the Prophet of Doom” spraying volunteers at his church in Limpopo, in the northwest of South Africa, spread on social media in 2016.

Immediate past Acting Director-General (D-G) of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Mr Mohammed Dauda, has levelled grave corruption allegations against Abba Kyari who is President Buhari's Chief of Staff.
Also indicted were current DG of the NIA Rufai Abubakar and Babagana Kingibe who is a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation.

Sahara Reporters obtained a brief Dauda sent to the House of Representatives Committee on National Security and Intelligence.

Ikoyi billions
Dauda became Acting DG of the NIA on November 7, 2017 following the sack of Amb Ayo Oke on October 30, 2017.

Oke was fired by Buhari over the controversial N13 billion found in an Ikoyi apartment in April of 2017.

Here's a summary of what Dauda detailed in his brief to lawmakers:
1. Dauda says when he took over as DG of NIA in an acting capacity, there was a certain $44 million cooling in the agency's bank account.

Dauda's predecessor, Mr. Arab Yadam, said this money was "part of the intervention fund that brought the Ikoyi apartment cash scandal."

2. Yadam introduced Dauda to Brigadier-General Mohammed Ja'afaru, the Acting Director of Finance and Administration (DFA).

Ja'afaru would go on to brief Dauda on the nature of the NIA's operations and assignments.

3. No sooner had Dauda settled into his new role than Kyari and Kingibe began pressuring him to steal and share this $44 million. He resisted, he says, by telling them the money was an exhibit.

4. Dauda says Kyari and the gang also asked him to fire DFA Ja'afaru to make a clear pathway to this $44 million.

"They kept insisting that they had the mandate of the president and that the president had directed the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to hands off the money and that it was legitimately ours.

"They verbally queried me on the logic of keeping the money as an exhibit since there was no case pending in court.

"Ambassador Kingibe told me that he was the one who, through the Chief of Staff drafted the memo that the President assented to, instructing the EFCC to hands off our case (Ikoyi cash scandal) just to convince me that there are no more encumbrances on the money," Dauda  stated in the brief seen by Sahara Reporters.

5. Dauda says Kyari, Kingibe and Abubakar would ask him to hand out money to their girlfriends for trips abroad.

"They wanted money for medical treatment or holidays abroad for their families and girlfriends. I met and gave a lady Ambassador Kingibe simply introduced to me as "Angela"  money twice at the car park of the Hilton Hotel.

"Once $50,000 and the second time $20,000, which apparently did not impress him. Even the current DG NIA once called me on WhatsApp, just like Amb. Kingibe always does and said that his Oga was traveling to London for medical check-up and he suggested that I should find something for him as a sign of good will.

"So, I reluctantly gave him $50,000 against my will, a decision that made me sad throughout the day," he said.

6. Dauda added that Mr. Kingibe collected over $200,000 from him during the time he headed the PRP (Presidential Review Panel).

7. Kingibe, Kyari and Abubakar also told Dauda not to cooperate with National Security Adviser (NSA) Babagana Monguno for obvious reasons.

"I was instructed to channel all our activities, contacts, concerns and complaints through the Office of the Chief of Staff Abba Kyari only," Dauda says.

8. Dauda believes he wasn't made substantive DG of the NIA because he refused to play ball.

The story reads:

"They then suggested that it was his turn to do something in return as he was likely to get the president's nod as the substantive DG only if he could immediately make $2 million available.

"I told them it was not going to be possible as the only money available was the $44M and I didn't know how to approach the Acting DFA. They also told me at the meeting that if I can't  sack the DFA, they would send someone to do it soon.

"That was my last communication with them until I heard of my removal from office on Wednesday 11 January on Channels Television around 8 pm."
