TheOgaBoss: because the uk govt can be trusted to be civil and law abiding, but this is Nigeria where people are invited by dss just for criticising the govt and some persons are incacerated for months because they dared to protest against the govt. The govt faced with more serious security and economic challenges would rather divert energy towards lesser issues rather than tackling insecurity head on strikes a sinister chord. There is freedom of association and speech in Nigeria to a large extent. Our problem is that we don't know when our freedom start to constitute security threats. Imagine calling and protesting for revolution, self determination and all that craps which can easily snowball into chaos, crisis. Back to the topic, let us all abide by the law so that it can get better. It doesn't make sense when you surrendered to law and scrutiny in UK but screaming to heaven in Nigeria and threatening fire and brimstone |

What difference does it make to me or any sensible and patriotic Nigerian? They can't sell pepper or clothes, they can't operate a barber's shop or driving a cab. If individual Nigerian had that kind of money, what would he be looking for in Ghanaian market center? I notice you didnt comment on Nigerian laws ban foreigners from owning certain businesses outright in your own country. I don't see Nigerian government victimising Ghanaian traders or any other African in Nigerian markets. The Nigerians who are being victimised in Ghana are the people who engage in petty trading below and not some Dangotes or Otedolas with 400 millions naira registration or capital (1) A person who is not a citizen or an enterprise which is not wholly owned by citizen shall not invest or participate in— a. the sale of goods or provision of services in a market, petty trading or hawking or selling of goods in a stall at any place; b. the operation of taxi or car hire service in an enterprise that has a fleet of less than twenty-five vehicles; c. the operation of a beauty salon or a barber shop; d. the printing of recharge scratch cards for the use of subscribers of telecommunication services; e. the production of exercise books and other basic stationery; f. the retail of finished pharmaceutical products; g. the production, supply and retail of sachet water; and h. all aspects of pool betting business and lotteries, except football pool |

Nothing new because "when tyranny & oppression comes into the land,it will be in the guise of fighting crime."-James Madison(US President 1809-1817) “Self-determination simply in our own context means Nigerians must be allowed to live the way they want to live. Boko Haram members were allowed to live the way they wanted, the result is there for all to see. diplomat058: All aspects of the Nigerian state are essentially corrupted and becoming increasingly materialistic. One reason is the collapse of the value system, which has led to the preponderance of the culture of materialism over morals, resetting the society to a toxic Machiavellian state.
No wonder, all things, including education, politics and religion, are seen as means to the good life (materialism) and when the good life isn't coming, you hear despicable clauses like "school na scam" or the "chop your own national cake" and "everybody na thief" mantras in politics and religion.
We need a revolution, not just a political one, but in most aspects of our societal architecture. It's like Nigeria has gone beyond redemption. Even some of us who still have little hope are beginning to accept the reality. There's corruption everywhere, little boys, as young as 14 are now controlling millions of naira through internet scam. smallsmall: Think before you talk, please. He did not take laws into his hands, he only enforced his "Cout awarded Rights", with the Court Staff (Bailliff) present and his lawyer. A competent Court has given Judgement that the land is his property so he has the right to that property and all he did was to ask the Court or aid the Court to enforce that Court Order, using the Court Baillif, Lawyer and Police Officers (Sate officers). What did judgement says? To demolish the structure or just that he was the rightful owner? How did he execute the judgments matters a lot. With whom did go there, with police and court officials or with thugs? The Aviation Minister just want to show him that Buhari and Northerners are in Power, believe me, if he was a Northerner or Military General, Minister Sidika will simply go to Court, not come and demolish his house. If the man was really "ready", he should have sprayed Bullets on those who came to destroy his house, including that Minister and his entourage. Do me, l do you, God nor Vex Why would he decide to lose his life over a piece of land provided by nature? That's madness! That land wasn't all he has got. hardbody: This saying that no one can fight with government actually irks me. So government (which by the way is nebulous) has a right to perpetuate illegality just because it is government? As they say, in saner climes, you can contest with government, take your matter to court, get judgement and get the government to obey. This comment about the infallibility of government begs the question as to whether government is always right , which i honestly do not think is correct, well except in Nigeria. Even if you got favourable judgement against the government, you still need the presence of police and the court officials to execute the judgment. The man went to destroy airport fence with thugs thereby putting the lives of others in danger. Government has reason to make him a scapegoat by all standards. From Nigeria to USA to China, you can only use the law to fight the government. Any other means will get you hurt, you are likely to lose everything if you decide to go physical |
